DELICIOUS My fiance and I just recently moved to Spencer, MA. We were off on a Monday and were looking for a good diner to eat at! I have previously been to Charlie's a few years ago, but now living in town, I decided to bring my fiance for the first time! I got the Belgian waffle and my fiance got an omelet special! Both were cooked AMAZING! The food tasted so good, my Belgian waffle was crisp around the edges and just melted in my mouth after each bite! The atmosphere is extremely country feeling and very pleasant to be in! The chef was hilarious and really made our dining experience a one of a kind! I highly recommend this hidden gem - super delicious, great value and great people! Love love LOVE this place! read more

I really want to love Charlie's but it has missed the mark the last few visits. I stopped in last weekend for a few drinks and the bartender was far from inviting (not rude but cold and uninviting) and the manager/maybe owner spent the night sitting at the bar drinking with a regular. The food was fine, nothing that I would go out of my way for. I will say the building is very nice and is rich in history. read more

June 25 went for early lunch Clam chowder was hardly warm and very salty. Disappointing for a New England eatery. Haddock was decent portion but dry to point of ruined. The burgers the young boys in party had were good sized and tasty. Service was excellent, prices were fair. Will go again but not as a plan but more like drive by "wanna go in?" spur of moment. read more

unpleasant experience with owner who was inappropriate and rude. The food was bland and the coffee was low quality . AVOID this place at all costs. read more

My favorite place for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have delicious homemade soups which are served in a coffee mug. They have outstanding steak tips and their grilled chicken dinner cannot be beat! Friendly staff and a fun atmosphere. read more

I have a hard time zeroing in on one Server. They are all so Wonderful. Steve has so many dedicated employees. The food is delicious and filling no matter what I get. There are so many great restaurants in Worcester County and Charlie's Diner is among the best. Jim Messier read more

First time going here! Service was great, food was amazing, the ambiance was very nice! Would definitely recommend!! Going back soon!

We went for a Valentine's dinner here tonight. It was very busy but we got a table quickly without reservations. We had eaten breakfast here before but not dinner. The food was very good. The prices were also fair. The waitress was pleasant as well. Great experience, we will go back. read more

We have been many times to eat at Charlies, and it has been good. But the last several times (and we waited months between visits) the food has been very salty and the sides have not been hot not even warm. The rice pilaf is absolutely horrible. The clam chowder is not hot and has way to much salt. For a number of older people that go there and have health issue that is not good. The service has become very slow, if you are a regular you get better service, but everyone should get good service. read more

The food quality here was very good! They had a nice beer selection and a large bar to sit at. The service was adequate overall. It's definitely worth trying their food! I was glad I stopped in!! read more

It took over an hour to get our food . Just ridiculous . When the food arrived the mashed potatoes where cold and hard and the steak tip were chewy! Can't say I will be going back soon. read more

I am sorry to post this review Poor service, unfriendly staff food mediocre expensive weak drinks

We just left Charlie's and it was horrible to say the least. My niece and I got the big stuffed haddock. It came out. Everything was ice cold. The waitress sent it back. It took almost a half hour for it to come back out and still was ice cold. I was not a happy camper. At the end of the meal you think that the manager or there would've been a price reduction or of some sort for the inconvenience Everybody I probably should've said else was done eating by the time this crap came back. We will never go there again. Shame on you bad service read more

They don't take reservations even for handicap folks celebrating their near 100th birthday. Chairs are super uncomfortable, small and ricketedly, definitely not a place for the average sized American. As for the food, mine came out cold. Mashed potatoes were tasteless even after dosing them with salt three times. Potato salad was equally bland. Service was very slow. Waitress forgot to bring napkins or to even check if we were enjoying our food. It's really poor service when you realize they did absolutely nothing to celebrate my Nana's 97th birthday. No singing, no scoop of ice cream, no acknowledgment... Also, there was a bowl of butter on the table...yet no bread offered despite about a 40 minute wait for food (that is cold and tasteless). I didn't eat the chicken parm but it had scant to no tomato sauce for a whole bowl of pasta. Onion rings were tasty, definitely came from a bag though. If you're looking for a drink, the bar seems nice, but if you actually enjoy food, I would go somewhere else. read more

My wife called in our order and picked up. They put everything in one container, no partitions to prevent water from steamed items getting into other items - like fries. So, we had disgusting soggy fries! Called the owner and he wanted us to drive back (30 minute drive) to the restaurant for a replacement - refused to give us a credit! When my wife let him know her disappointment with this he said 'do you want me to go back and yell at the kitchen staff?!'. My advice is to avoid this place - owner needs to learn how to treat customers and properly package food to go. read more

We stopped in recently for an early dinner and I have to say, I don't understand the high praise for this place. The interior was cute, although there was an odd barn smell (almost like there were animals but there weren't). To say the service was poor would be an understatement. For the entire duration of our meal, 2 waitresses sat and chatted at the first table in front of the door while they occasionally wrapped silverware. I'm sorry, but doing that in front of guests is lazy and just not a good look. As for the food, it wasn't HORRIBLE, but I certainly wouldn't rush back. My wrap was totally average, and my wife's meal was cooked on an obviously filthy griddle because the black residue on the meat was gross. Both of our French fries were soaked in grease, almost like they weren't cooked at a hot enough temperature. The steak my father ordered was GRAY, an obvious sign that the grill was not hot enough and steak essentially steamed itself. I would look elsewhere if you're planning on dining in the area. 2 stars for me. read more

Excellent food! Prices and portions like a diner and food is great! Look forward to returning!

The clam chowder in a mug really spoke to my cutsie-loving heart. I love that the old 1950's diner is still attached to the new space and they still have the old menu on the wall. Our server was so nice and I had a great haddock lunch here. I hope I can go back again one day soon and try their other diner foods, especially their original recipe menu items. read more

I came in here last week with a friend for the first time and we both thought it was great. We got crab rangoons, a burger and pot roast and it was all really good, also huge portions. Super random to find amazing rangoons at a diner, but I'm happy we found them. It's super relaxing and comfortable inside and the staff was really nice. Will definitely be back again. read more

This is my favorite breakfast place! Everyone who works there is cheerful and nice. They make homemade dinner rolls. Yum! Pp

Friends introduced me to Charlies, as I didn't know where it was located, or just how terrific the food is. In my opinion, the best breakfast for the value in the Worcester area is Charlies (who makes an awesome spicy Bloody Mary). Now that they've opened up their new section, you can enjoy Charlies at night at the large bar, with good food and people. read more

Nice venue but the food was not good. Greasy french fries and just ok sandwiches. Better places around for the $$$

First time here tonight. Waited 20 minutes for a seat. Waited 25 minutes to place an order. My burger came out raw (asked for it to be medium). They put the burger that i ate out of BACK ON THEIR GRILL and served it well done. Absolutely gross Will never be back read more

Consistently good food! One of the best places around here for sure. Love the raspberry lemonade too.

Not my first review of this place. I said I would never go back and I haven't. My husband however thought it would be ok to take our grandson to breakfast there. Big mistake. Fly in the maple syrup and they didn't even notice until after they ate some of their pancakes. Incredibly disgusting and gross!! Can you believe HE still had to PAY for that grossness?! It is incredulous to me! Please see the pictures. They get 0 stars for food and customer service. read more

My husband and I are still in utter shock at what we witnessed here at the Sorry Charlie Diner. We came in on a Friday evening for the prime rib special. They were busy and clearly have a strong local following. We do not live in Spencer, but we live close and have been here before. As we were finishing our meal, there was a slight lull and the servers were clearing tables and tidying up for the next wave of customers. A server was sweeping. The broom was frayed and nasty, full of dust bunnies, etc. There was some food on the booth seat from the previous family that ate there. Did she pick up the food or wipe the seat with a towel? Nope. She raised the nasty broom with things flying off the bristles onto the table, stuffs it into the booth and SWEEPS the seat to get the food off! She did not follow up with the sanitizing the table or changing out the napkins/utensils that were there for the next customers. I do think the person that bused the table should have cleaned the seats, but that is NO reason to put the broom that you sweep the floor with up to the table. Minutes later, a group sat down and ate. Maybe a rogue employee who wasn't trained correctly? No. Other servers saw her and no one corrected her or cleaned the previously clean table. The gentleman who was buzzing around the dining room (owner or manager, I do not know) saw it and said nothing. So that tells me this is standard practice. Our meals were not that impressive, the desserts were pretty looking, but quite horrible. The steak tips are supposed to be their best seller. Mine were so over done they tasted like liver. And that was my assessment prior to the broom incident. The only enjoyable item was the order of crab cakes. I am pretty certain that regulars who are in love with this place for whatever reason are going to send me nasty messages. Go ahead. Had I looked this place up before eating there and seen this information, I would have gone somewhere else. read more
