I don't appreciate the foul language used in their "drag shows". Every other word is F**k, Sh**t and Nig**r. It is insulting and it gets really, really old. When I go out in the evening, it would be great if the performers would stop being so "graceless". Show some dignity (for yourself) & towards our community. Please, Keep your racists, (unnecessarily) foul language and insulting comments to yourself. Venus, who performs on Tuesday evening is funny, beautiful and sings like a professional. I recommend her shows! 9-12:00 every Tuesday night. Everybody loves the Charlie's dancers! I agree. The dancers are terrific. This lip sinking, ghetto behavior speaks CLEARLY FOR WHAT IT IS: Classless, annoying and insulting. The only reason drag does well at Charlie's between 8-12:00 pm is because we all ARE WAITING FOR THESE SHOWS TO END...! (Do that crap downstairs!) Most of my friends just want to dance, and listen to the best DJs in Denver... with the BEST SOUND SYSTEM ON CAP HILL. FYI: THE STAFF @ CHARLIE'S CAN'T BE BEAT! Excellent service. The bar & bathrooms are spotless. The staff is ALWAYS Kind, respectful & adorable. The bar is being very well managed. The "entertainment" needs TO BE REFORMED. There's a known individual from a kickball league that threatens to call ICE on people who are US citizens and throws out wild accusations but the staff allows it. It's happened numerous times and he's even been thrown out by security for getting aggressive with them. Well, it was brought up to security AGAIN today then to the manager and they allowed him to stay. He is mentally unstable...if you want an inclusive, safe space, this isn't the place! This is the second bar that I went to with my buddies after X bar and I really enjoyed it. They give the beers and pictures which I like and the venue seemed pretty big definitely country/top40 ish type of a bar. The people there were semi-welcoming. I think the bartenders were a little rushy, but it's fine. It got pretty packed. I am so glad Yelp reminded me to write a review for Charlie's! I had the best time while I was here back in January. My friends and I went on a Saturday night and the place was packed! The bartenders were so friendly and the crowd was super fun. We got to enjoy some dancing and a drag show which was amazing! I love how the bars are all connected to the same system so that if you have a tab open, you can order at any of the bars no matter where you are-super helpful since I was all over the place that night. I chatted with the owner (or maybe manager) and I can't remember their name right now, but they were so sweet and friendly! I do remember they told me that they have tons of google reviews and google followers bc I was telling them about my Yelping! I hope this review gets to this person so that they know I appreciated our chat that night. Super fun guy! When it was too hot inside, we were able to go outside to the patio to cool off and enjoy some fresh air. The patio was a good size and there were lots of people out there with us. They provided some of those heating lamps to warm people up and there was also a small bar to order from as well. Great little spot! Overall, I really did have a great time on my night out. There was a cover charge, but it wasn't too much. They have a coat check which was also helpful and they have gender neutral bathrooms so that lines were the same for all. I love this! !!!DANGEROUS!!! DO NOT GO!!! Predator paradise! They leave their customers stranded and afraid! This is a perfect example of a business that does not care about the safety of their customers. It's true what they "you never think it'll happen to you until it happens.". I saw the reviews where people were saying their car got towed but didn't really think anything of it because I wasn't planning on being there too long. Then it happened, my car was gone. My friends had already left, my phone was almost dead, and I was left alone with no way to get home. Words will never be able to express the fear and hopeless I felt in that moment. A couple noticed me frantically looking around the parking lot, having a panic attack, and came over to ask if I was ok. They sat with me on the curb until I calmed down then I explained my situation. And guess what? They told me their car was missing too. These ladies were absolute angels! One of them let me borrow her phone to ask the tow company if they had my car and they offered to split an Uber with me. Please please please listen to the reviews people are leaving! This is not a safe place for minorities to go especially alone at night! I was so incredibly lucky there were other people there in the same situation as me, otherwise I can 10000% see predators lurking around this area to take advantage of the people who's cars get towed. My have times changed. This bar used to be one of my go-to bars pre-pandemic. I figured I'd stop hiding my weak immunity system and venture out to support a safe space after having a terrible week. I masked up, got ready and upon arrival was "greeted" by two unprofessional "doorman" before entering. The first "doorman" told me that there was a five dollar cover, he needed to check my id and I would have to check my bag if I didn't have a car to put my bag in. That's new. Not wanting a fight I told him my friend had already paid my cover and I'll check my bag. Next up to "Mr. Cowboy SDE doorman." Repeats the same thing. I told him I heard the first doorman and I already agreed to check my bag. He interrupts me and says we'll I have to look inside your bag and you have to check it. I said I already know that. He asked to see my id. I said I already showed the gentleman before him. Mind you it's cold out, we just had a big snow storm and I'm trying to get inside where it's warm and my friend is already inside. My friend had already paid my cover. Mr. Cowboy asked me to pull my mask down, which I said, "really?" Because the last "doorman" did not knowing it was clearly me in the photo. Mr. SDE Cowboy asked me what my problem was to which I replied, I give the energy given to me. That must've really triggered him because he begins screaming to get off his property. I asked him is that how you treat a woman? And he begins yelling even more. Mind you, I'm not drunk, I'm masked, and I'm literally giving the energy back to him that he has given me. I felt singled out and treated unfairly because I am a Black woman. His biases, stereotypes, and weak ego got the best of him. He was so loud and annoying he screamed at me all the way to the sidewalk after I turned and left. My friend came outside to see what the mess was and I told Him I will not be coming in and this little cowboy starts screaming at me as I was talking to him on the sidewalk. Just so you know, Mr. SDE cowboy, a sidewalk is public property. That's why people can protest there. You don't own that bar so it's not your property. You also don't know what kind of week or day I've had and how much strength it took for me to get ready to try to go out in what's considered to be a "safe space" for people of color AND the LGBTQIA community. Intersectionality is a thing. Do some research and maybe you'll understand that there are problems bigger than you in this world, and sadly, your bar doesn't provide a safe place for people to try to escape it. This is the least inclusive LGBTQ+ bar in Denver. For starters the staff is completely rude to you unless they find you attractive. As you can see by many other reviews they discriminate towards women including LGBTQ women. The staff was plastered drunk, I understand bartenders drinking from time to time but the guys at the door acting as "security" were plastered and starting argument with patrons in line. They did not check my ID Friday night (possibly due to their level of intoxication) so there is concern for if underage people are able to get in. I closed the door and finished pulling up my pants and washing my hands. When I exited the restroom, a bouncer told me I needed to understand why I was being walked out, and I was promptly 86'ed. i was absolutely shocked. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask that someone not enter the restroom while I occupy it. And I'm not sure why the default is removing the innocent party. The atmosphere was great, and there was a drag show. The show was a bit awkward, as we couldn't entirely get up but it was still enjoyable but difficult to see from where we were sitting. Have been going to Charlie's for years with my friends, by far our favorite place to go in denver for dancing. The bartenders are all very nice and quick at their jobs (especially mustache Christian, always so nice, s/o him). Though, since just before thanksgiving of 2023, it has seemed to change on the weekends and doesn't really feel like a queer space anymore. The music has been off and there has been a noticeable difference on the dance floor. It's slow season, but now people clear out much earlier and it's not fun dancing like it used to be. The security was so so rude. They took my j I had in my purse (understandable) and said we could get it on my way out and of course when I went to get it they said they don't have it. Although I'm pretty sure it was the same doorman. He starts shoving my brother out the door and locks him out and then let's me look in their drawer. He put hands on my brother for absolutely no reason and wasn't at all apologetic. He could've lied and said sorry and all would've been fine. Instead he decided to act like a complete a**. I'm sapphic, went with my gay best friend, and my straight brother, and another hetero couple. We just wanted to have a good time and heard Charlie's was the place to go. I do not recommend coming here unless you are a gay man. We felt the people doing karaoke were mocking us at one point and the staff was not welcoming (besides one bartender who was super nice to us all and I wish I could shout him out.) I understand this being a safe space for the gays, unfortunately there is a real lack of lesbian bars and I just wanted us all to have a good time.
