I was in Philadelphia for business and had the obligatory Geno's Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. I failed to see why people rave about it as the processed Cheese Whiz is overloaded with salt and ruins the taste of the beef. I stopped at Charley's the next day in Anthem and once again ordered a Philly Cheesesteak. Charley's is by far and away the superior Cheesesteak sandwich with tasty beef and real melted cheese that compliments the beef...not overpowering it. Fast friendly service. Asked for no tomatoes on my Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Got my food ask for mustard. No mustard ok? Couldn't find ketchup ok? No ketchup either. Ok? Found a seat and ate half my sandwich and some fries. I usually only eat half and take other half home. Could taste that something was off. Was going to take the second half home so stopped at counter. Looked at menu and saw my sandwich comes with mushroom and bell pepper. That's why the taste was off. Asked the man at counter to make sure that's the case and he said yes but you said you didn't want it. I said I didn't want tomatoes. No apology given. Ok? Other than the missing ingredients sandwich was good, but with the mushroom and bell pepper I am sure it would have been great. UPDATE: The chicken philly special with fries is now $5.49. You can also no longer choose what kind of chicken philly you want. It is the original or bust. Also tried the small steak for $5.49 (no fries) and that is gonna be your lower level steak variety with decent toppings. It won't be the best Philly you ever had, but it will get you through shopping or lunch. FRies were very good. This place is Ok if you stick to the basics. Just get either the basic chicken or steak philly, minus any lettuce and tomatoes. They had a $4.99 special for any small chicken philly with fries so that made things more affordable for lunch. It might be better to eat on site because the quality of the fries goes down during your commute back home. We normally eat here 1 to 2 times a month. Last night was the worst experience. The grill was filthy. The person behind the grill took the wrong cheese off meat and put right cheese on. I was hungry for a late lunch so tried this place. A regular chicken philly, fries and a large Diet Coke was over $13. That is excessive for fast food. The Philly was decent, they must not want to spend money on peppers and onion were few and far between. The bread, cheese and chicken were tasty. A far cry from a good one.
