Our destination - Needles. This was a perfect stop to fuel our journey across the unforgiving Mojave Desert byways. Restrooms outside Post Office Building, quiet fountain. Shoshone Museum across the highway. It is so good to be in a Pod. I kept thimking about the Jayhawker Party crossing this desert in their wagons, leaving dead Jayhakers, oxen and horses dead on the trail as the Timbisha Shoshone watched from a distance. We have Chevron fuel, cold Sprite, air conditioning, four new tires and a fine engine taking us to Needles. read more

Like highway robbery lol definitely convenient cause there's nowhere else to buy certain things that you might need but overkill on the pricing a pack of cigarettes $25 a six pack of beer $24. Employees were always jovial even though there were throngs of people/customers waiting in line to purchase Powerball tickets. Plus the temperature of the building was less than desirable by the cash registers, but their smiles continued! It was 100° outside and probably close to 90° inside, yet no one was complaining! read more

The Charles Brown General Store is the inside "Mini Mart" side of the outside Chevron self-serve area. When you enter, I was impressed the large selection of Indian jewelry, various rock/stone collections, and assorted Tchotchkes. So, if you want a somewhat local souvenir of this area of the country and at decent prices, this is your place. Gayle and I found the mini-mart (located further back) part to be relatively sparse and uninspiring selection-wise. I knew this for sure when my wine-seeking and loving wife, declined to purchase any despite the fact that our nearby Shoshone Inn supply was sparse. This is the only store in Shoshone We usually stop here when we are heading to Tecopa this way its really easy to get at after getting off RT 372. The Chevron's gas is a expensive so if you are coming from Las Vegas and or Pahrump make sure to fill up there because the gas is much cheaper! The store is pretty big and they have a lot of things to pick from almost like one of those little convenient stores when your camping but bigger. They do have the items you may need while camping, Snacks and drinks and odds and ends for food items. They also have gems that are local mined. Also the date farm items if you did not want to ride all the way there to buy them like the bread, They also have local made jewelry as well as things to take back from your trip to Death Valley. The store is clean and the workers we have seen are always friendly. They also sell scratch off tickets too ~ We always end up buying some of them trying out our luck. The only gas station is Shoshone ca. Fuel up before coming into Shoshone because gas here is really expensive. Thank god we got gas in baker ca which was already pricey. This store has everything. Coffee, snacks, beer, and souvenirs. They also have dates for sale from the China date farm in the town next door. I also heard this gas station is a lucky gas for playing the lotto. read more

A great store- the only one in Shoshone. The Chevron's gas is a bit pricey if you are coming from Pahrump (where the gas is a bit over $3), but very reasonable if you are going through Death Valley. The store is large, very well stocked with everything you may need for snacks, camping, and gift needs! They sell local made jewelry, local-mined gems, little gifts, and products from the China Ranch Date Farm. Most definitely stop here on your way through or out of Death Valley. read more

I was last out here in Feb. 2016, but used to be out here at least once a year for the hot springs in Tecopa, and would usually have to get gas before going back, and this is the only place around, other than Pahrump, NV, which is 40+ mi. away or Baker, CA, at about 85 mi. The prices are not great, but on-par with other places in this area. Gas is typically $2 higher/gal. than in Vegas or Orange County, CA, but if you're coming up from OC/LA, you can usually find MUCH better prices, which usually are about $0.50/gal. less than OC in Baker. This is more of an expanded convenience store type place, complete with items from the area, including locally made soaps & locally grown dates. (These are usually less at spots in Tecopa, especially the dates.) They have a very meager selection of food items, which will likely be about 1/4-1/2 the price if you run over to Pahrump with an actual grocery store. It's a nice place to look, but not so cheap to shop here. :) read more

The store is well suited for the average traveler passing thru looking for a rest stop and perhaps a gift or something. I live locally and have stopped in to buy a snack and/or a cola beverage on a few occasions. The past three visits have been disappointing to say the least because the snack item I really want is always out of stock. Some of the other options for snacks were so old I could have used it to build a brick retaining wall. Today I grabbed a Pepsi. It tasted awful. I don't drink much cola anymore but I had a craving and I know how a Pepsi should taste. Looking at the bottle I found the expiration date of August 19, 2019. Today is October 18, 2019. Pretty good reason why the cola tastes bad. Anyways, buyer beware. The stop at this store is still a fair one but make sure you examine products for freshness. Chances are you may have picked up an antique soda, cookie, or other goodies. read more

Jeanie is Great! 8 of us rented motorcycles in Las Vegas and were driving a loop around/thru Death Valley. We knew it was going to be hot and took lots of water with us. I was the only female and am about 5' 8" and weigh around 130, so not a tiny person. I had consumes probably 12 bottles of water when we got to a turn out in Badwater. I started having, I'm assuming, heat related issues. I honestly don't remember much between that stop and this store... which is kind of scary still. Evidently they guys drenched me in water and put a jacket on me and got me back on the back of the bike. My husband says he kept yelling at me to keep me sitting up. When we got here, the guys took me inside and Jeanie came to the rescue. She got some ice water and a cold something for the back of my neck, and I could hear her telling the guys what they needed to do... all the while still taking good care of her other customers. I couldn't tell you what is in the store, or if the prices are great or not, but I can tell you they have a gem in Jeanie. She managed us and everyone else, for what I'm told was over an hour. I left there a bit weak but was cooled down and finished the trip in much better shape. Most definitely stop here and let Jeanie know she is a good example of why we are here ! To help each other.
