We came by yesterday and ordered chocolate ice cream on a waffle cone.the place was packed but the line moved very quickly. The ice cream is homemade and delicious. The attendants were very helpful. The shop looked nice and clean. We forgot to take a pic of the ice cream yesterday.

Interior design resembling an old school ice cream "shoppe" is nicely retro & cute. In a good location in C'ville's downtown pedestrian mall. Good selection of ice cream flavors. Prices are pretty high (kind of tourist-centric high) & flavor of my cherry vanilla was underwhelming although it was quite creamy. Our 6 grandchildren enjoyed it so, that's what mattered to us.

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST BUTTER PECAN IVE EVER HAD!! Bob Rossin' in the corner was such a vibe and the overall feel of the place was very vintage custard feel

In my little Charlottesville crawl, we ended up at Chaps in downtown for some dessert. The interior is super cute, arguably what you'd probably think of when someone says "an ice cream shop" from movies. We got a single scoop of pistachio that had a great creamy texture, but the flavor felt artificial. There were so many flavors that looked like they had great potential so I was a little disappointed. I'd come back to try another flavor and also the waffle cone at this Charlottesville classic, though!

Peach (seasonal) Ice Cream

Passed by this ice cream shop and I saw their seasonal peach ice cream that I had to try. When you walk into the shop, it had a lot of original decorations and definitely brought you back in time. The ice cream had a great peach flavor that didn't taste super artificial like other peach flavored things. Perfect texture, with a great balance between the sweetness and slightly tart peach. The older lady inside was also very friendly and adorable! A great ice cream shop that's been serving Charlottesville for the past 35 years!

We had been traveling all day, drove for close to 5 hours and had a rest stop lunch. So by 5 pm in the evening when we reached our destination we were starving and need to eat something. Thats when we saw this really cool old timey ice cream parlor in the middle of downtown district and thought to ourselves, well its destiny! Stepping in, the ambience was as you'd expect. Flashy neon signs, old timey seating and everything was perfect. The price range was reasonable too along with their selection of flavors. The servers were helping as people walked in and asking if they would like to taste. I tasted 3 different flavors and decided to go with the coffee raspberry and chocolate walnut. We got our ice cream quickly in a cup with 1 scoop of each and in no time we were chowing it down. But by the time we got half through we realised it hadn't really satiated us. The ice cream tasted good but it was just that. The chocolate one had melted really quickly for some reason while the coffee was still in tact, so now we had milk along with some coffee ice cream floating. For the initial wow factor of this place, we were left dissatisfied with ice cream we got. Maybe it was just one of those days.

It is a cute shop with vintage diner feels that I found really nice. The staff was nice, and their ice cream flavours were also unique and tasty. But my issue was with the consistency of the ice cream itself. One minute out of the store and our chocolate ice cream was already creating a puddle in the cup. So even if it tasted great, the ice cream didn't really satisfy my appetite.

Must Try: 4Cs, Golden Nugget. Baseline Test: Pistachio All the ice cream is made in house everyday! They go through so much ice cream that the ice cream stays fresh. As many people have mentioned, the entrance and the storefront immediately bring you back to the early 1900s vibes. The store does many things well including separating the ice creams into two sections (nuts and non nuts). Location is also great, so during the hot summer months strolling around the Downtown Mall, can just swing by and get Ice Cream or shake. I had the unique opportunity to get a full comprehensive tour of the shop and see where the ice cream is made! They also do experimental flavors as they continue trying to expand to all palettes! Overall, whether a local or a tourist, it definitely is worth at least one stop in for the insta-worthy photos and a taste.

Mango Sorbet

Chaps Ice Cream is great!! My friends and I got the mango sorbet, German chocolate ice cream and an affagato. Everything was rich and creamy and fresh!! Long line but moved quickly.

No matter how busy they are they make sure to serve you well. Great customer service and the ice cream is delicious

Ice cream is good, but this place is disgustingly dirty. Floors, tables, bathroom, behind the counter, etc. The staff is playing with their smartphones and expecting a guilt tip for handing you a sample.

Good ice cream in a cute space. Waffle cones were crisp. Service was nice. Parking can be hard to find, but this walking mall is fun.

They have cute gift baskets and gift ideas if you're looking for a way to be a blessing to someone you care about while supporting an awesome business with a beautiful purpose. The second is Kindness Cafe + Play. I've been a loyal patron for ~4 days. I learned about KC+P about 2 weeks ago when I ran across pictures of employees posing with bottles of Mountain Culture Kombucha; I made a mental note to try KC+P ASAP. My first visit was 4 days ago. Unfortunately, I arrived near closing time (noon) so I had limited time to scope out and enjoy their fare. I requested a Blueberry Bar from Found.Market (basically Blueberry Cake), Grit Coffee, Water. I got briefly acquainted with the founder, Katie, and was impressed with her devotion and how it is expressed and executed at KC+P. I asked about Mountain Culture Kombucha, and was told they were temporarily out, but would be getting a shipment soon. Good enough for me. The Blueberry Bar was delish, and the Grit Coffee made an excellent pairing. On each dining table was a small sign advertising a Fritatta for $5. Mmmm. Next time. I told Katie I'd return Friday. I returned Friday. Arrived about 9am. Ordered the Fritatta, Coffee, and Mountain Culture Kombucha. I settled down at a largish table, booted my computer, and surfed, checking my upcoming appointment at UVA Medical Center. A server brought my food in about 3 minutes. Note that KC+P has touchless serving. I slowly savored the Fritatta. Excellent. I would call it a Personal Quiche, but what's in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. And sipped on my Mountain Culture Kombucha / The Ginger. Always good. The dining area comprises a few circular tables and large sofas, all spaced well apart. Very good Grit Coffee. Very good Kombucha. Very good snacks. Über cheerful staff. While the parking lot is quite large, I have yet to snag a space near the entrance. The ladies' room is very clean, as is the rest of the building. I look forward to returning. Frequently. KC+P is relatively new, but is a wonderful asset to the community. It is exactly what one would expect in a beautiful city like Charlottesville. "All people have values and gifts to share." Katie Kishore

As usual, I'm looking for the best coffee roaster to go to, and Lone Light Coffee was on the top of my list in this area. The coffee shop is on the smaller side, but it was warm and comfortable. The baristas were nice and three of them gave me their input on which single origin I should choose for my pour-over. POUR-OVER - MKT Price +6.50 for Mohammed Aba Nura - Ethiopia (tasting notes: Strawberry, white chocolate, hazelnut) I wanted the craziest tasting option they had, and they recommended this one since it's pretty popular and well-liked among customers. However, one of the barista said he didn't really like it himself. I figured I should still try it. The sips I had while it was still warm was pretty juicy and sweet, but I really didn't like the notes once it cooled down (about 20 minutes later), which tasted sour and off-putting. I should have listened to that one barista and went with a different single origin option. Overall, good roaster -- just unfortunate that I tried something that wasn't for me. The baristas seem knowledgeable and passionate about their craft. I would love to come back next time and try another single origin offering.

I wouldn't recommend trying to get work done here during a busy time since it's not a huge space.

This restaurant is clearly formerly a small home, given how it has so many small rooms set up like bedrooms, hallways, narrow stairs, and living rooms with six-pane windows. Plenty of mason jars and small flowers spread on each table. The food exceeded my expectations. The coffee and espresso were made by a skilled barista who steams great milk and can tell apart a cortado, latte, and flat white. My sweet potato hash was very tender, salted to perfection, and matched with a good amount of turkey sausage they managed to present piping hot but not dried out. My companion's smoked salmon and poached egg easily split under a fork and coated the plate in delightful yolk. Sensibly prepared. Nothing dry or cold. I found the entrance quite difficult to locate when coming from the Oakhurst Inn, probably a consequence of how the property is laid out with so many cabins and houses on the grounds. If you can manage the maze of stairs and paths, you'll find a charming cafe across from a new housing development. Definitely come here if you want good espresso or an appetizing breakfast.
