It was not the best mint chocolate chip ice cream that I've ever had. The inside of the shop is not the cleanest and the ice cream was not stored very well-- my ice cream was melted upon being handed to me. After dinner at the italian restaurant next door, my coworker and I wanted some ice cream for dessert. This cute little ice cream parlor was just what we needed. The inside decor looks like something from the 80s with different signage and neon colored decor. We were able to sample a lot of the flavors and they were all really creamy. I decided to get the golden nugget which was really good! I really enjoyed the ice cream. The cashier behind the counter was nice and helpful. They have a small seating area with booths so we were able to enjoy our ice cream inside. read more

I was in there last week and bought a pint of chocolate fudge walnut. I do must say that I was disappointed. I got one walnut and the price was 12.04 for a pint. never again! all overpriced and some of the flavors looked freezer burn. I can give it a rate cause it does not deserve one. Came in on National Ice Cream day, so quite possible things were different than normal. Had to stand in line for awhile and it was hard to see flavors while we waited. Got really excited about the German Chocolate flavor because German Chocolate is my favorite cake, and it should be an ice cream flavor. It really wasn't that great. Basic chocolate with some walnuts. The only high point was the waffle cone, which was extra delicious. I'm not sure I would go back, but again, my experience may have been substandard just because it was a particularly popular day for ice cream. read more

Super rude employees (not the sweet older lady). Place had a bowl of sample spoons so my niece asked to taste a flavor of ice cream before she picked one and the guy with the beard and long hair was super rude and said they didn't have time to give samples because they were "busy". Literally from the pics I took, you can clearly see they weren't busy at all. After the nasty guy completely blew us off, my niece asked the sweet older lady working for a sample, which she gladly gave to her. Won't ever be wasting my time or money here again. read more

No fancy steams, aprons, waffles in napkins, mixing ice cream on stone slabs, no bombastic signs to attract kids: just a neoned store front - practically illegible - on a side street corner in sweaty Charlottesville! As many people, we're visitors from out of town, here to see our loved ones graduate! I'm from NC originally, but I've lived on the west coast for over a decade now. The heat and humidity in the south is ROUGH, and I am no longer used to it. You know what makes it better? *Delicious* ice cream. I got the birthday cake flavor because bday cake ice cream is truly one of my favorite flavors- if done well. I know that I only got one scoop, and I know I'm an outsider, but I've had a lot of birthday cake ice cream in my life, and I'm telling you, this was actually the BEST birthday cake ice cream I've ever had. Legit, tasted like straight up cake & frosting (with sprinkles!), just ya know, cold and with a creamy texture. I'm here only for 3 days. I'm going back today. And I'm getting 2 scoops this time. Life is too short. The service was also great. We were a big group of people, with a little toddler who was getting quite tired, and the shop was very busy. I came here on a Wednesday evening around 8 PM while in the area for work in June 2019. The shop was pretty empty when I arrived, but a few groups of people came in right after me. It looked like there was just 1 employee manning the register at the time, so service took a bit of time, but he was still pretty efficient. I was frankly overwhelmed by the number of flavors, as there were so many that appealed to me. I ultimately opted for the Ferrero Rocher, as it was listed as being "seasonal" and I love Ferrero Rochers anyway. I got it in a sugar cone and paid after the employee handed it to me; this made it a bit awkward to pay and sign the receipt, but it was fine. It didn't seem like there was a credit card minimum. The ice cream was absolutely scrumptious, and I was very happy with my flavor choice. The shop is pretty cute and has some vintage-looking booths. However, the space is very tight, so I think it'd be awkward to sit and eat in the booths while there are people lining up in front of you, especially if you get claustrophobic. The mall outside is a pretty nice place to walk and eat anyway. As far as I could tell, they didn't have any obvious nondairy dessert options, so keep that in mind if you want anything other than dairy goodness. read more

Chaps Ice Cream resembles an old fashion diner/ice cream parlor and is conveniently located along the pedestrian mall. We stopped by one evening looking for some hand dipped ice cream. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with our ice cream. I ordered one scoop of the pecan and caramel and after the first bite I quickly realized that the ice cream had crystalized! I tasted again, in case it was just the first bite, but the entire scoop was crystalized throughout, which indicates the ice cream had thawed and been refrozen. My wife ordered their coffee ice cream, which is a flavor we both usually enjoy! As she was eating hers she kept commenting that it had a different taste to it than most coffee ice creams, but at least it wasn't crystalized. I tasted it and the reason it tasted different was because it was a hazelnut coffee ice cream, which is drastically different than a "coffee ice cream"! Had this ice cream been labeled hazelnut coffee flavored, we would have selected a different flavor. Unfortunately, I can't recommend their ice cream since they were 0 for 2 on our visit. read more
