Patronized Chaplin's this past Saturday. My mistake, as it was the Saturday before Halloween. I was visiting to check out the karaoke and KJ. As Chaplin's is known for having a small space, in addition to the typical Halloween revelers, the cramped room was exacerbated by what appeared to be a group of formal event patrons. No problem, though, as I will try to revisit, hopefully on a night, that's not as crowded. Only 1 waitress tended the floor and she did the best that she could and provided good service. The food itself was on par with standard offerings for bar food, flavor and portions decent, so no complaint there. But again, I will try to revisit a different karaoke night and let you all know my findings with regard to the vibe and the people. read more

Just moved from NY and was looking for a great karaoke spot with a great atmosphere..this place is it.

Hubby and I checked out Chaplins for lunch today. It had been bookmarked in my restaurants to try collection for a while and we finally decided to go for it this afternoon. As other reviewers have mentioned, the inside is a bit dark and dingy, which is not too surprising considering this is a dive bar, but overall we had a good experience. Service was friendly and efficient, prices were reasonable, and the food was good. My husband ordered a margarita and was very happy with the result, which is saying a lot because he is almost always disappointed with the margaritas he orders from most places. His primary complaint is that most of them taste more like lemonade than an alcoholic beverage as they never put enough tequila for him, but he thought the ratio of alcohol to juice on this one was right up his alley. It was a bit too strong for my taste, but I was glad he enjoyed it. For his meal, he ordered the barbecue wings. He was not a fan because they are fried, so the skin was nice and crispy but he prefers it to be softer. I would have chosen the buffalo sauce instead but I did like the crispiness from the fryer and will likely order the buffalo wings myself on a future visit. We had the jalapeno poppers as an appetizer, which had great flavor and a nice kick. I ordered the Philly cheese steak and I have to say that this was the best Philly cheese steak sandwich that I have ever had (including the one I had from Philly itself). The cheese was on the bottom, which I found a little odd, but the flavor was on point and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I would definitely order it again and highly recommend it. The fries that I had on the side were just okay. They weren't bad but not good either and I will likely choose a different side next time to try something different. I feel like the value we got for good service and food was just right. We will surely be back soon. read more

Such a staple in the area! Great local bar and don't hesitate to order the food! About the food - Elevated bar food and service - I had the grilled salmon BLT on sourdough. Excellent - generous portion and delicious! My husband had the Chap Chop Cheese and it was delicious as well. About the bar - New owners have cleared out the smoke smell (thank God) and you can finally enjoy the great karaoke without leaving smelling like an ash tray! This is a hole in wall type bar. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The live karaoke runs 5 days a week starting from Tuesday till Saturday. Depending on the day, then start either at 9pm or 10pm and runs till about 1am or 2am. The server is pretty persistent with serving each table. Weekends are usually fun with the large crowd cheering the singers. read more

We've been here three times now. Twice on Fridays and once on a Thursday. Zero consistency in each visit. Either service was great and food sucked or service sucked and good food or really unruly crowd and out of everything we wanted to order. I can't get a good feeling yet. read more

Chaplins is a longstanding tradition in Roswell. Staff is super friendly and the place is a lot of fun.

Overall the best value in Roswell. Dive bar with Kate ok we in the inside but a super cute patio nice and shaded with a breeze always blowing. Food is bar food but excellent in taste and the value is the best in town. Overall a great casual spot to feel totally relaxed in a cool atmosphere. While the inside is dingy and dark like a traditional dive bar the outdoor space slows those that do not like the dive bar feel ( which I do not) a great alternative with such a cool outdoor patio. Ok..... chaplin's used to be my roswell casual go to. You could smoke, good clientele, great staff, good bar food. No longer..... they sold to new owners, fired the old staff, ditched the menu and got new kitchen staff. We popped in, no smoking but they had a cigarette vending machine. Our waitress was horrible, very sh*ty attitude, dressed and looked like a slob and spent the whole time eating wings on the patio smoking and talking to two shady looking guys. And she was rude and acted like anything we asked for was a hassle. This place is dead. And the new owners killed it. Went there once a week for years.... Never again. read more

SMOKING IS ALLOWED INSIDE. Just thought I'd start by saying that. I didn't do enough research before coming. Was looking for a place to go sing karaoke and found this in my search. And to my surprise I was instantly greeted with cigarette smoke, that grew as time progressed. The setup is very neighbor bar type. Friendly bar staff and karaoke host. Just, being a singer smoke isn't the best and I don't smoke and don't want to come home smelling like cigarettes. This place is bottom of the barrel scum. Giving it a 1 star is a compliment for them considering it makes you HAVE to pick at least 1. I was physically assaulted at this place last night. I had called an uber to go home and was told by a staff member to come on the patio because it was cold so I listened. Not even 2 minutes go by and the owner and his hot head was like get out and I said I was told to wait here in which he had the security physically push me more than once out of the patio to the ground. Prior to that were some other men that were hitting another guy for some reason I do not know. (Oh apparently last night the cameras "did not work" how convienient) Sadly, besides that...I have been going to this establishment for close to 21 years. The previos owners were very nice and actually had good food. The food has gone downhill since Mike Kramer had taken over. They KEYWORD "USED" to have the best chicken fingers and actually made their own salad dressing. Now they give it individual Kens brand dressing and the chicken fingers taste nothing like they used to plus are much smaller and oddly uniform looking almosy like mcdonalds. The one good thing is that they do not allow smoking. Other than that this is worse than scum. Be careful if you go there. read more

Chaplins must have changed owners. We've been going there on and off for over 10 years. The last time we went I think they only had one bartender,server combination working. My wife and I never saw that person before. We both order their famous big burger. After about 30-45 the burgers finally made it to our table. I was a little shocked. No plates just one of those paper boats like they use at a carnival for french fries. My fries were on the bottom, the burger was laying on the side and ketchup packs were stuffed under the fries. My burger was lukewarm sucking the heat from the fries. My wifes burger was refrigerator cold. She ordered onion rings so there was no heat to warm the burger. She told the server who asked if she wanted it heated up? She said yes. He snatched it up and took off I think to the kitchen. I shared my fries and burger with my wife because after 15 min. her burger got lost and never returned to the table. We went up to the bar and told the bartender to forget heating up my wife's burger and I just paid the $30 check. What a waist of money.We won't be back. read more

Ordered the buffalo shrimp and this is what I got! Some frozen popcorn shrimp that wasn't even in the sauce. When one orders buffalo shrimp this is not what you expect. Had the menu said popcorn shrimp then it would have been different. *We ate outside but the inside of the restaurant smelled gross and bathrooms were gross as well. **I will never go back there! read more

LOL! I was at Chaplin's for the first time the night that Shaina had a bad experience. I'm a people watcher, so I saw it all unfold and I think Shaina was a little "under the weather" and wasn't used to getting called out on bad behavior. Anyway, me and a friend just wandered in and had a great time. They have the perfect balance of cool vibe and kitsch nailed down. What's not to love about karaoke even if you don't participate?! We only had the wings to eat but they were delicious. The drinks were great and I was impressed by the liquor selection for a "dive" bar. We will definitely be back with more friends and maybe use some liquid courage to hit up the karaoke! read more

I will never be back...we were told that our tab had been closed out by another person ( a frequent regular) in the group and as we were standing outside the "waitress" steps out and tells us "don't fuckin leave"...I had no problem paying any money that I may have owed, but the attitude and demeanor of our "waitress" was unacceptable...insinuating that we were trying to ditch out tab..the "waitress" was impossible to find when we needed a drink but was quick to jump the gun when she thought we were dashing on our tab...don't hire crack heads aka the skinny little woman jumping down everyone's throats... The ribs are fantastic. The hamburgers are fantastic. The drinks are cheap. The dining room (bar) is usually full of cigarette smokers. They could install a mid sized air purification system (like in a cigar lounge) and it would be fine. Until they do, go to the outdoor dining area. read more

We left before we even got our food. There's no reason we should have to wait 30+ minutes for a grilled chicken sandwich, wings, and chicken fingers with fries. There were literally about 4 other customers, not tables, but individual customers there, so it's not like they were busy. We should not have to wait that long for normal bar fare, when the restaurant is practically empty. Although the restaurant has been there for years, with the way Roswell is changing, this place should step it up. If you want to go to a bar, go to Mazzy's instead. If you want like a tavern with good food, go to Roux, or Marlows. Will not return. read more

I went to Chaplin's with a friend after work. We had driven past several times on our way home, and figured we'd give it a try because they have a sign that says "best burgers". Because of the time, 4:30 pm, it was not very busy, but there were a few regulars at the bar. The bar is smoking, and we sat on the "restaurant" side, which is a covered porch with canvas sides. The waiter came to take our order, and we joked with him about the best burgers thing. We decided to start off with some Chili Cheese Fries. They weren't the best fries, but they were ok. We both ordered a Dijon Bacon Burger with Cheese, and a side salad, which was a nice option. The salad was larger than you typically see for a side. My salad was fine, but my friends caesar salad came drenched in thousand island. A little weird. When the burgers came they filled out the entire plate. You get to assemble the top onto the bottom, which comes with tons of toppings, including lettuce, tomato, onions, and a pickle spear. The burger was also just ok. The bacon had a strange taste, and we both wound up taking it off our sandwiches. (I was holding on as long as I could. I mean, come on...bacon!) When the waiter came to wrap things up, he asked if we thought it was the best burger. Without hesitation, my friend said "No!". I told him not the best, but good, and I was being nice. read more

Eternally optimistic, we were attracted by the slightly rundown exteriors, the earth tones that almost camouflage the place into the surrounding landscape , the extensive deck, and the cool name. Confronted with a huge wait at the restaurant that was our original destination, we decided to just try the burgers and wings at Chaplin's. The indoor bar looked like fun but we opted for the enclosed non-smoking patio. They have some serious radiant heaters out there and I felt at times like I was getting a tan; but it was warm on a chilly night. They pour a generous glass of wine and they know how to pull a proper Guinness. The food service was slow but it arrived hot so the server remains blameless. The lemon pepper wings were the best thing we had. Curiously, the hot wings were very over salted; and I like salt. You kind of expect the heat to dominate but not in this case. The mushroom burger was a mess. Ordered medium, it came well done and the bun could not stand up to the wetness of the burger. There was no crispness to the fries. We left a few on the plate that were too mushy to eat. Chaplins is probably a great place for drinks and others have commented on karaoke night. Just don't expect a great dinner. read more

The server here was perhaps even less interested in my presence than an ex-girlfriend with a restraining order. Honestly, if you aren't packing a flask to drink from, you'll die of dehydration before our server will refill your drinks. Also, I was told they had Sweetwater 420. I asked if they also had Sweetwater IPA, and the server told me they were the same thing. As a Georgia local, I found this appalling. If you ever think servers deserve to make more money, I would recommend you visit this place so you'll see why opponents of a minimum wage increase find the notion baffling. read more

If you've been to metalsome and experienced the seething mass of drunken frat white-hats in khaki pants singing Enter Sandman with about as much vocal ability as a wood chipper filled with frozen squirrels - and were horrified at the obnoxious depths to which humanity has descended... Chaplins might save Karaoke for you. Random people from all walks of life come together to drink cheaply, enjoy the MC-ing of some guy who looks JUST like Billy D. Williams and sing one of the 100,000+ songs at their disposal on the appropriately cheesy Chaplins stage. Everyone sings, dances and has a freaking blast. Its a smoky dive with mediocre fried food and an uninspiring beer selection, but you WON'T see a drunken frat dude pass out while trying to start a fight with one of his bros and you WILL have a stunningly divey karaoke experience. NOTE: If you are a suburban wuss who needs a shiny clean bathroom, a non smoking atmosphere and for whom the thought of doing karaoke provides only a cold shiver of insecurity rather than a rush of AWESOME - than Chaplins is not going to work for you... and I like that. :) much love. -CHUK read more

Don't get me wrong, no one is really coming here for the drinks or the food - they are coming for the karaoke. It is super smokey and crazy packed with the karaoke is in full swing, but if you want to sing, and you aren't hot, make sure you have some CASH. The drinks are cheap, but they are strong, so that is going for them. This time around there was a wedding after party going on complete with the bride in her dress and wedding party dressed to the nines. My guess is they did NOT have to tip Mr. Karaoke to sing. Now the karaoke singers were either hit or miss - some were amazing - I mean truly fabulous. Others absolutely butchered some classics to the point of ear-bleeding and my group singing over them to try and make the pain stop. We had a hard time getting a server to even stop to get us any drinks, but the singer in our group got to sing a few times and the rest of sang along plenty. I'll stick with other joints, thanks. If you want a place where you don't mind broken beer bottles in the bathroom and leaving smelly then this is also the place for you! It has a cute patio and the drinks are good, Michelle the bartender will definitely take care of you. I've never had food here so I can't speak on behalf of that.
