I was nervous walking in to what looked like a furniture store but was so pleasantly surprised by…read morethe charm inside! I don't know if it's a consignment shop/restaurant but it really makes the vibe fun and different. We got two apps to split as we weren't too hungry and there was also only one vegan entree and I am not a mushroom and eggplant fan. The Ezme was so delicious and the fresh baked pita was as perfect! The hummus we got warm, which I'd never had before but it was also very very good, although the burst of flavor in the Ezme definitely overshadowed the hummus. The only reason for 4 stars is the server seemed to have forgotten about us. We never received any plates or napkins and we both ran out of water and were waiting to get some more. Everyone was very very friendly but that took the overall experience down just a notch.

The result is a delicious combination of sour and sweet, the perfect complement to lamb and fish, to arugula and hummus, to rice and vegetables. The restaurant sits in the middle of a "Turkish bazaar" featuring high-end designer goods and fine woven kilims and carpets. There is a lovely separation of tables that works perfectly to provide privacy. And the decor, all for sale, offers a festive feeling of being in a southeastern European market. Our server was standing in for the usual staff, and he was charming. He is also the designer of much of the merchandise. We started with a delicious Anatolian hummus made perfect by warm "pide" bread to scoop. Try and eat this and not hoard it all to yourself! My entree was kofte kabob, woodfire-seared minced meat patties seasoned with warm spices and fire roasted with tomato and peppers. Served in a sizzling "Guvec" pot right out of the wood-burning oven. This came with wise rice mixed with chick peas. A companion had levrek branzino, a light, flaky Mediterranean Striped Bass perfect for being crisped in a woodfired oven. This was also baked in earthenware clay pots, prepared with extra-virgin olive oil and sea salt, and laid over a bed of fresh arugula salad. There's an excellent wine selection. The menu is pricey, New York City prices. Dinner for three with a tip was $200. I would go back. They are moving up the street to a new location. So call ahead for directions.
