The staff were very welcoming - they even gave the bride some body butter and salt scrub as a gift! We had a private room for mimosas and lunch (which we brought in), and they kept us together as a group for both the manicures and pedicures. I used Changes City Spa for my pre-wedding and day-of pampering, and I could not have been more impressed with the service my friends and I received. Erin, the wedding coordinator, was a sweetheart and so accommodating of our little group. She knew I had a foot injury, so whenI had a pedicure and she saw our reservation had some down-time, a massage therapist (shout out to Daniel) came down and worked on my foot. It was amazing, and so relaxing. On the day of the wedding, Martha (my hairstylist) was fantastic and somehow made my hair look 10x better than it did at my trial, when I already thought it looked fabulous then. Two different reviews for the two locations...(5 for day spa, 3 for hair salon...average of 4) 5 STARS: for the day spa: Best day spa ever! I miss this spa as I moved out of state. I have not found a spa that compares They do great mani/pedi's and serve wine, tea, & cake to customers. They also give you your nail file at the end of service so you know that it's not bacteria laden. They staff is also fun...they wear all black and every month use a different color accessory as an accent...it's been a while so this may have changed. Other spa services (ie body wrap) at this location are also amazing!!! 3 STARS: for the Changes hair salon. Not that great. I got a perm (I know...who gets perms) and it was horrendous. I just moved to the area and picked Changes based on close proximity to me and the positive reviews on Google Maps. I was going for a big change so I specifically requested a higher level stylist. I paid pretty much the same price as in other places I've lived. Plus I believe you pay for what you get. In any case, I was paired with Leah who did a awesome job transforming my long hair into a cute bob. I showed her a picture that I liked and she did exactly what I wanted. Well worth the $55. The male receptionist informed me of the cash only for tips so I knew beforehand . This was the policy when I lived near DC so maybe it's a Virginia thing. Looked at my child this morning and realized that she looked a bit neglected. I called Changes and they fit me in immediately. This is the second time I've gotten her hair cut at Changes and these ladies are beyond amazing with kids. Obviously, cutting a wiggly child's hair is probably not super professionally rewarding OR lucrative, but you would never get that impression if you saw the celebrity treatment they give my kiddo. Krista cut my daughter's hair today and not only did she do an amazing job, but when we were walking out, my little girl said "I love that lady." I went to get my hair re-done and a trim. The service was great. They used all organic stuff on my hair for washing and style, loved that. They gave me a student discount on my foils. It's more pricy for sure but totally worth it if you want your hair done right. They told me when I maid my appointment to bring cash for a tip, no biggy at all. read more

My daughter didn't know about my previous experiences and purchased me a gift card for my birthday. I said ok let's get waxing and I called to make an appointment. Day before the appointment I received a phone call confirming my 4 pm appointment - time, date, tech name. I arrived five minutes earlier, checked in with the front desk and was sent upstairs to wait for my appointment. Time 4pm of my appointment the tech took another customer and ignored me completely, I went down stairs and asked why the tech is not honoring my appointment, she checked and said that my appointment was two hours earlier and that based on their record I missed my appointment. Hmmmm - I was just checked in by giving my name and time of my appointment???????? I let her hear the phone message confirming my appointment and her reply was .... "whoever called you made a mistake in the time." Really... this place can care less about their customers. This time, I will NEVER EVER walk into this place. In the past 2 years, I've seen at least 10 stylists and out of all of them Sharon at Changes takes the cake. She really listens to you what you want and gives you a really great, versatile haircut. I was impressed with how thorough she was and how she explained what she was doing as well as different ways to style the cut in the future. Walked in for a haircut assuming all stylists were experienced, unfortunately was assigned a stylist that may not have been licensed, cut was sooo bad. I've been seeing Cindy at Changes City Spa since 2002. I love this spa for getting my hair done and pedicures with friends. They are pricey, but this place is clean and pretty easy to book. Big complaint for me was planning my wedding, they were pricey and required a lot of money down. I took time off my work and showed up to my appointment. The girl called Norma and to my disbelief, Norma simply denied any appointment being booked. Brought my son in for two haircuts. Called and made appointments both times. The first time I called I said I would take whoever, it was our first visit. I was charged the price on the website for that visit. The second time I called and said I was happy with the girl who cut it the first time. After the second cut I go to pay and I'm charged almost $30 for a two year old boy's haircut. I ask what the increase is and am told that because I requested the stylist I was charged her specific price (which is clearly much higher) and not the price I paid the first time. The salon is fine and the people are nice enough- but two stars because they should definitely inform you they are going to charge you more in the situation we were in. read more

If you are handicapped and cannot climb stairs, DO NOT book spa services here. There is no elevator or stair lift to access these services. I observed staff handling of manicure/pedicure tools for sterilization with their BARE HANDS (instead of following CDC Guidelines of gloved hands). Not so sterile technique! This salon uses this "sterilization" of the tools as a marketing tool. Unless true handicapped access/sterilization is provided, I would never frequent this establishment again. A true spa! They do everything here - haircuts, hands and feet, massages. Their massage lounge is amazing. And you can have a nice cup of tea while gettig pampered! The staff are all super nice and accomodating. Do bring some cash on the side to give as tips bc their CC slip doesn't allow you to add tips. Went in for 45 minute classic pedi. Had gel polish to remove, which happened quickly within the allotted 45 minutes. Went to pay and was charged $45 for the pedi plus $12 for the gel removal, despite it not requiring any additional time and without forewarning when I initially scheduled the appointment. Took multiple efforts to get to speak to a manager, who proceeded to tell me they should have charged $20 for the gel removal! I have had pedis with and without gel at multiple salons and never had a separate add-on charge for polish removal. Their customer service is horrendous and 2 out of the 3 gel pedis I received there in the past 9 months have required redos before leaving the premises. I have been a customer of theirs in the past but never ever again. read more

After patronizing a nail salon for over 7 years it appeared that the "wheels were falling off". I had been searching for a salon where I would feel at home, where english is the primary language and stellar workmanship is the norm. I believe I have found evberything I was searching for at Changes. It is pretty pricey and not anywhere near where I live (south VB). I was very impressed by Katrina who was the nail tech that provide my gel maintenance service. The facility is pretty large, mani and pedi's are performed in seperate areas.
