We usually hit up Champps on Monday afternoons for their killer Monday deal, but this time we swung by on a Friday night and their happy hour is still just as awesome. Perfect spot for a casual date night or catching a game while enjoying their great drink specials. We started with potato skins which were lacking a a bit of flavor, but if you dunk them into their seasoned sour cream? Game changer. For my entree, I tried the new whiskey BBQ burger. It was good, but felt like it could use a touch more BBQ sauce. I will admit I stepped out of my usual comfort zone this time and tried a couple new items, which may have affected my experience, but hey gotta live a little, right? Other than that service was excellent as always, and we definitely made the most of happy hour. Their happy hour prices are hard to beat and they have good variety on their happy hour food and drink menus. The food isn't mind blowing, but I have yet to be disappointed in anything I've ordered. I will never go back to this location and restaurant; absolutely terrible experience. We were seated at a table and then sat there. We were never waited on. We finally left after sitting there for 20 minutes while no one ever came to our table but they walked by many times never saying anything to us. It wasn't busy so that is not an excuse. I called and talked to the manager on our way back home. He sounded sincere; he said he would send us a gift certificate as an apology. He never sent it. We had The Dilemma and the Loaded Grilled Cheese with fries. Both were disappointing. The fries were over salted but also lacked any flavor which is interesting. The grilled cheese wasn't anything to run home about and the bun in chicken sandwich was too sweet. Our server was really sweet and the food came out super fast. We loved the pretzel bites and would highly recommend those but the cheese sauce that came with it was oddly watery. I haven't been here in 10 years and that was mainly because i assumed this place wouldn't have made it through covid. My wife and I went this past Saturday. We ended up sitting at the bar thinking it would be quick and attentive service. Wow... were we wrong. There were two bartenders when we showed up. One disappeared for a while and the one bartender seemed overwhelmed covering the bar and the drinks from servers. Ordered beers when they eventually came by. Mine had something floating in it so had to flag one down and ask for a new one. Took awhile to get a new one but eventually did. Ordered an app and a side salad to start. The person at the host stand must have also been running out orders. She asked, very confused if we had the spinach artichoke dip and a salad. We said it was ours. She responded, "ok good because I didn't see any plates or utensils so I was confused." She set the food down and then walked away not offering to bring plates or utensils nor ever returned with them. We grabbed the napkins and utensils ourselves from the stack by the edge of the bar. The same woman brought out our food. A pizza and burger. Right away, I asked for a plate. Instead of just saying yes and grabbing one, she stood next to me waiting to flag down the elusive bartenders. I looked at her and asked if I should just go to the bar and grab it myself. Which, she could have easily done but found a bartender to get us one of the tiny plates. Burger was undercooked but not the end of the world. The waffle fries appeared to be the bottom of the bag and mostly the small broken bits. My pizza could have been real good. The crust seemed premade and more like a flatbread. Bartender forgot I asked for a coke. Eventually remembered after my wife said something. Food was basic and over priced. Service was laughable. read more

I should have come here to start with. After a long day of driving, I had a specific craving: chicken tenders with fries. My first attempt to get chicken tenders with fries was a dud. I went to Popeye's, which is across the street. I think they're Amish or something, because they close the dining room when the sun goes down. I guess their candles or oil lamps or whatever they light the dining room with must not be bright enough to stay open past 5:00. I decided to go across the street to Champps. I had been there before with a former colleague, who is unfortunately deceased now. I remembered it being pretty decent, so it seemed like a safe choice. It ended up being a GREAT choice. I ordered the chicken tenders with fries, and it was at my table in less than 5 minutes! Lightning fast service! And it it tasted great. My only gripes about the place are that it's dark and loud. I don't think I've ever watched a game at a sports bar before, but my 16-year-old son is getting me into football and I wanted to watch the Vikings game since they were winning. Our waitress, although she was wearing a Packers shirt, was incredible. We got nachos, we got fried brussels sprouts, we got chili, we got a salad, we got nonalcoholic drinks. Great service. Champps is a longtime favorite for me. It's standard all-American food with enough variety that most people in your group should be able to find a soup, salad, sandwich, or burger that meets their needs. Sadly, the experience is lackluster. Meh. For starters we had the "crispy" Brussels and an order of potato skins. The Brussels weren't crispy. They were soggy, greasy, overly saucy, and ironically, tasteless. I had to salt them to bring them too life. The potato skins were over-cooked, dry, and also lacking in any flavor. I'll never understand how that is possible with an bar food item that has been around for decades. All of our food came together except for my wife's chicken salad. That's the item that should have taken the least time. When it came the barbecue chicken was cold and dry. Our server told us that they cooks make is in advance and then throw it on the salad when ordered. So much for cooked to order food. We sent it back and got crispy chicken instead, which took forever. My Impossible cheese burger was great with barbecue sauce on it. But, my waffle fries were cold. Another let down. One son had the club sandwich which was large. He loved it. Another son had the wings, which he said were great. My daughter had the cheeseburger. It was good. For dessert the fam shared the cookie dough pastries. They disappeared quickly. The service was slow, uninspired, and lacking in any hospitality. We are in a pandemic of bad service and under-managed restaurants, so that isn't a surprise. Several times when we needed something we were unattended, but there were plenty of staff standing around talking to each other. The ambiance is what you would expect in a post-quality sports bar restaurant. Dark wood tables with hard chairs, sticky floors, and TVs within sight. I can't recommend if you want to be treated well and have timely, hot food done with more than a prep cook's mentality. read more

Let me just say that they had the best Old Fashioned I have had in a while. After that, everything is down hill. Not only did they let a regular of theirs harass me out of the bar, but when I tried to let the bartender know about the situation, he basically told me I could go somewhere else. The only nice thing that came out out of the situation was they refunded my burger. This place is trash. It's obviously got a management that has close-knit friends that come to the bar and cause trouble with random patrons when they feel like it and it's down right disgusting. I'm completely from out of town and would have loved to give this place a five star review based off of the drink I received, but I will never return to this place ever again after the experience I had tonight. I have never been harassed out of a restaurant until tonight and will never forget this disgusting experience. Go to scoreboard. My husband and I went here the other day for something quick and easy. Service was pretty quick. The server didn't really keep checking on us. Had no personality. Just did the order and the routine, "how is everything?". The food, oh boy, was terrible. I'm not a food critic but this was so bad. There was zero flavor whatsoever. As far as bar food goes, this place is decent - though it wouldn't entirely be my first choice. Despite that, the majority of the food I tasted was good - nothing fancy, just good ol' bar style American food. The first appetizer that was absolutely delicious was the grilled chicken nachos - not only did the chips taste good, but the portion also was massive! Despite this, there wasn't very much cheese and the chicken pieces were few and far between. Barely any chicken in there. Next up were the prime rib quesadillas - good execution, but not much flavor. In fact the meat didn't have any flavor at all. For the nachos being so salty and flavorful I was a bit surprised. Wouldn't order again. The burgers are what make this restaurant shine the most. We got the Truffle mushroom wagyu burger and the South of the Border Burger. The wagyu one was amazing! Lots of flavor, albeit messy. The waffle fries were good too! A bit overcooked but delicious. The South of the Border Burger was just meh. I felt like the flavors didn't mesh well and the guacamole part of the burger had no flavor at all. Not even salt. As if old avocado was used...couldn't tell. I also didn't like the regular fries much - just due to them being a bit bland. I do have to say, the dips for the fries and the sour cream for the nachos was amaaaazing! Like, I couldn't stop dipping food into them. So good. Last thing we got was the Mile High Ice Cream pie - and for some reason, since the description stated brownie, I was expecting a significant amount of brownie in this dessert. However, the brownie portion was a tiny layer on top and bottom and it was rock hard. Impossible to get a whole spoonful of every layer due to this. The server was perfect and very nice. We had dinner there tonite with our team. Interesting situation. It was kind of complicated. We came in with about 50 people. They were expecting us to come with 30. Complicated but good situation .... revenue. We were accommodating and understanding. But we heard multiple people complain about how this made their life difficult and that they had reservations from people who called in days and weeks ahead and didn't just walk in. It was uncomfortable. We ended up eating T the bar to remove ourself from the issues. The craft burger is very very good. Large selection of beers. Nice selection of cocktails. Overall very good food. Would have liked the staff to be more accommodating and welcoming. read more

The food and prices/deals here are amazing and that's what keeps us coming back almost weekly. But I have to say the bartender Isabel is absolutely horrible and ruins my experience every time I'm there. It's AWFUL watching her work. She doesn't know how to pour a beer and most importantly she's so unsanitary- she will wipe the whole glass with her hands then wipe her hands on her pants and hold glasses by their rims. She always has excuses for why she can't ever pour a good beer and why it's so foamy or spilling everywhere or why it's only 2/3 a glass full. As someone who worked in the restaurant industry I would not have been happy if she was my bartender and I had to serve those beers to customers. read more

OVERALL: Hidden gem for a meal - from a sports bar! 10/10 recommend. SERVICE: I want to start with service because our waitress was so kind and patient. We haven't been here before so she walked us through some of the favorites that people order in each category. All of which were great recommendations! She always made sure to check in on us as well. DRINKS: We ordered the spiked strawberry lemonade and the maple bourbon mule. It's not often you see a drink topped with food unless it's a Bloody Mary, and the salty bacon was the perfect compliment to this rich & boozy mule. The spiked strawberry lemonade is classic and not too sweet. FOOD: Starting with the appetizer platter, it comes with boneless wings, pretzel bites, mozzarella bricks, and potato skins. Potato skins are always underrated and a favorite appetizer of mine. They stuffed them full and weren't too salty which often can happen. It's served with seasoned sour cream which ups the flavor as well. We ordered the boneless wings with Nashville hot honey sauce, it's the perfect combination of sweet and savory. The savory was a deeper and smokier level than the typical Buffalo sauce and it was delicious. Pretzel bites were served with queso which I found to be so flavorful as well. The mozzarella bricks are packed full of cheese. For the entrees, I absolutely LOVED the miso glazed salmon. It was top tier of ones I have had before. I got it with the garlic mashed potatoes instead of rice and I think that added to it as well. The Brussel sprouts were crispy and had a lot of savory flavor. The dessert...WOW. It's massive and totally worth it. This is also one of the only *instagrammable* desserts I've been able to order that doesn't have nuts in it which is great when dining with someone with an allergy. It has toffee and lots of caramel. I'm still thinking about it now. ATMOSPHERE: So much cleaner than your typical sports bar. Still, lots of TVs to watch the game of your choice, but also a good spot just for dinner because it feels nicer! This is a great choice for date nights for sports fans and classic diners alike.
