I always wanted to try this place since I see a lot of people lining up to get a slice on a night out and it looked really good. Food: I had the chicken buffalo slice and I would say the crust is definitely one of the best in the city, since it is very thin and crunchy and had some flavor to it. However, the topping were such a flop as there is almost no tomato sauce or cheese and it is basically just ranch, buffalo sauce and chicken which was also not as flavor as you expect. Finally the slice was not as warm as it should be. Service: like any other pizza slice shop. So there is no input regarding that. Atmosphere: I like how they have a bench where to sit and enjoy the slice in a peaceful way while jaming to the songs playing in the background. read more

We ordered for delivery while staying in the hotel half of a block or so away. It's hard for me to write that and see it in words but we had taken the dogs out so many times there was just no way we were stepping foot outside of the hotel again. I grew up in NY so it's hard to impress me with pizza. I didn't have any expectations, especially for a late night slice but the quality (and i'm a bit embarrassed to say this) really blew me away. I was full from earlier (disclaimer: not my idea to order) so I expected to only have a few bites, you know, wet the whistle, but I ended up having a slice and a half and maybe two, memory is fuzzy. The cheese was hot and bubbling having just come half the block down the street and up the elevator. The crust was reallyyyy good and held up. There was literally zero sog whatsoever. The sauce was flavorful as well. I was not expecting anything close to this. We had a bunch of leftovers and even after being left out all night and most of the next day, they warmed up beautifully in the oven and was STILL incredible even as leftovers. I am shook. STILL NO SOG! I would eat the fuck out of this if I lived nearby. read more

I ordered two regular slices and it was so disappointing. The slice had no taste, I had to add so much cheese for it to taste like something. The crust is too thin. I'm not sure why there is so many locations and good reviews, if the slice is not even close to a NYC slice. read more

Randy was so nice pizza was great customer service was great will definitely be coming back to this specific location

Randy helped us, he was so kind and helpful. Delicious pizza. Good vibes. We got the margarita pizza

Low key place with delicious pizza, cool vibes and friendly, helpful service. Stumbled on this place starving after a fantastic comedy show. We came back a few weeks later and had the same experience all around. read more

One star because cold pizza is never good. Plus, I paid $3.00 extra to get it delivered faster. Actually, the delivery guy was pretty fast, but I think something is wrong in the place; send out a cold pizza. Maybe that's why they gave so many extra garlic knots (which were hot). This is only the second time I have had Champion, and the first was last week from Times Square, and it also took forever and was cold. The Times Square Champion cold was better than cold from here. Clearly Champion is a slice shop, not really a place for deliveries of whole pies. One day when I'm nearby, I'll stop into one of their many locations; none are near me in Murray Hill/Kips Bay. I won't be trying a different Champion to see if they can do better, because they probably can't, and there are plenty of other distant pizza parlors that do care enough to make sure they deliver hot pizza to the customer. read more

no slice of life is quite like NYC pizza existence. this Champions Pizza location is large, well-maintained, lots of seating, and serves solidly good pizza when you're looking for a casual slice on a late night. the plain cheese slice pairs well with slight inebriation. again, solid slice--not mind-blowing, but it does its job of cheesy carbs with a thin layer of sauce and pizza grease to get you through those spirited Lower East Side nights. staff is pleasant--spend some dough here.* *3.5-3.75 stars read more

very good pizza. very fast servic and the pizza is a good price great deals if you are on a budget and need something quick and good

Scene: Just landed in New York after a 6 hour, 6am flight. Dying of hunger. Sweaty, delirious and craving pizza. Order: Take out, small New Yorker pizza. (Onions sausage pepperoni) Pros: Getting the pizza was fast and the price wasn't terrible (~$16). It was enjoyable beacuse it was pizza. Cons: Anemic, slightly undercooked, a little soggy. Conclusion: Got the job done, but a middling performance overall. read more

This is my favorite pizza place in NY so far. There are many locations but THIS ONE is specifically my favorite. You get a really good, solid pizza for $1-$2 before 10pm. The other locations for champion pizza is like double the price for the same quality, that's why I'll continue to come to the one on Essex street. It sooo good! read more

I used to go to their outpost at Columbus Circle all the time. So I was excited when I saw this location on my errands. Went in, and immediately felt a depressed, amateur hour vibe in what I discovered to be an incredibly average, disappointing experience. I've had better slices at a 99-cent shop. The cheese tasted old, the sauce way too acidic and the crust was as limp as a 90-year old without viagra. Bottom line: Save your money and go down the block to the McDonald's. It'll be a better tasting meal that's for sure. read more

Stopped in after seeing a show I was reviewing to get some pizza and a water to eat a late dinner on my way home. It's pretty average for a NYC pizza place but they were open late night, my 2 slices were filling and the pizza is definitely in keeping with the standards we've come to expect in NYC. Being close to the train station is also a plus. Not something I'd go out of my way for but if I were in the area I'd go for my pizza fix. read more

We've passed by Champion Pizza and saw all these pictures of celebrities who have visited the place so we said let's give it a try. We ordered their Margarita Slice and Pepperoni Slice. It had that New York pizza style made with a thin crust. The Margarita had tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and fresh basil. It had a combination of savory, salty, and slightly sweet. Actually, they both had a sweet tomato sauce. When you get pizza there are times when the pizza tastes salty or sweet or perfectly balanced. We will say this place makes more of the sweet side of the spectrum of pizza. The Pepperoni helped balance the flavor more with its saltiness. read more

This is my favorite slice pizza in NYC. Though nearly every pizza option in lower Manhattan is good, Champion has a special place in my mind. I love the vibe of the store and it's storied history. Their ingredients just taste a little bit fresher to me than most slice pizza spots. They give you plenty of meat with each slice and their sauces actually have distinct flavors. I would recommend Champion Pizza over Prince Street Pizza. Both are very good but I think Champion has better pizza and the wait at Prince Street makes getting a slice a remarkable pain. If you are in lower Manhattan and want a famous slice of pizza that is delicious and fast, Champion is the best option! read more

The pizza is amazing! The bottom is crunchy but the top is soft and it is just the perfect combination. Never had Champion Pizza before, but I've seen locations all over the city. Had a couple of plain slices and they were both really solid. One of the best plain slices I've had in the city. The sauce was slightly sweet, herbaceous and tangy. The crust had a perfect char. Didn't know the crust would be so thin until I did a New Yawk pizza fold. I can probably devour a whole pie without feeling queezy. Not a sit-down place, but they do have 2 benches up front. read more

Pizza was cold and sauce was a weird sweet flavor. The pepperoni was cheap and tasted like they were frozen for a while.

Perfect drunk late night snack. We went out to Libation and wanted pizza before heading back to the dirty jerz so we stopped here. The pizza was fresh and delicious. I think I got the chicken ranch but I don't remember (see pictures). They have RANCH DIPPING SAUCE TOO WHICH WAS BOMB. If you don't eat your pizza with ranch dressing you're missing out on one of the best things in life!! They have an upstairs with a good amount of seating. Better then standing or sitting in the street. Especially if you come drunk lol. Guys were nice from what I remember. Def hit this place up if you're in the LES. New York pizza will always be the best, no one can compare. read more

Honestly one of the best slices I've had in nyc. The chicken parm slice was divine. Plenty of chicken pieces, yummy garlic, this ricotta? Cheese was giving me life, and the red sauce is so good. I also like their crust. Be sure to go before 8pm or the prices increase a bit, but I'd still get late nite pizza from them read more

Went there a bit yossed after about eight $8 bud lites cause New York prices are cheeks. But wow, did this pizza sober me up real quick. The second the immaculate flavor touched my tongue, I was completely focused and aware at where I was. The sauce perfectly accompanies a tasty cheese and crisp crust. Would go back 100%. Butter me up with some more of that delicious flavor. read more

Love this place. The crust is crispy and the pepperonis are unlike any that I've tried before. Margarita slices are good too. There is a bench that can fit at most four people that's leaning against the door, but usually I just get slices and walk around eating the slice. It is a quick grab n' go, with a wait time of at most 10 minutes. I would suggest eating it right away or else it does lose its crispiness. The prices are $1 for plain slices and $2 with toppings before 10pm. Price increases after that. If you are in the area, I would definitely stop by this place, even for just a snack. read more

Where can you find the best slice of pizza in NYC? If you ask any New Yorker, you will get various answers. For my sister, her spot happens to be Champion Pizza in the LES. We trekked here after dinner for "dessert"...I originally wanted ice cream but she was set on having me try a slice of her favorite pizza in the city. Champion Pizza is a no-frills pizza joint. This is not a dine-in restaurant but on a hot and humid night, its not a problem to stand to the side and munch on your pizza. Of course, we went with the margherita: pizza sauce, mozzarella, topped with fresh basil. I took one bite of that and was sold! The crust was just the right texture, crisp yet chewy. I enjoyed the flavors of the pizza, with the gooeyness of the mozzarella and freshness of the basil. It was a very satisfying slice to end my night. I enjoyed this so much I had to drag my bf to bring a couple of slices to-go for our flight out of JFK. He's pretty picky with pizza and, surprisingly, approves of Champion. For a buck or two per slice, you can't go wrong with Champion Pizza. read more

The dollar pizza on Essex has saved many lives after nights of inebriation. Though, I think it's $2 after 10pm now. I could have sworn I reviewed this already but hey. The crust is still slightly crisp, it comes out piping hot, cheese/sauce ratio good. Recently tried their pineapple bacon slice (yes, I like pineapple on pizza, it is a thing, stop it, don't judge me). Really good and surprisingly fresh tasting. Local celebrities grace their walls with photos of their visits: KEANU! Wuv. Plenty of seasonings off to the side. Not a lot of space inside because it's just a teeny tiny standing zone but this is like your drunk subway pizza or bring this into a byof bar. I think there's also another Champion pizza like two blocks away - same deal. read more

This is my favorite pizza slice spot in Manhattan! Have been coming here for 10 years. In fact I go out of my way to stop here for a slice - it's cheap, perfectly toasted NYC style. Nah. Nope. Gross. I'm no "purist" but as someone who has been born and raised in NYC I think its safe to say I know pizza. With that being said I decided to stop by after walking past this place and figured I would try a plain slice. First issue was the dough. The dough wasn't anything like the dough you'd find in the million other pizza joints. Its consistency reminded me school cafeteria pizza basically. The sauce and the cheese were just ok but nothing to go crazy over as these ingredients usually all come from the same suppliers. I didn't get to experience what other reviewers claim to be as this place being a dollar slice joint. I paid $3 for their plain slice which in my opinion was not worth it even though it was only a few bucks. Champion pizza? Nope. Maybe Champion halal pizza. NEXT! read more

Tried four different slices and they all taste like some good hungover pizza! I basically pointed to all the pieces I want and never figured out the name. I could've sworn I've reviewed them before, but it may have been for the other location. Champion Pizza is one of the most solid slice joints in the LES, if not in NYC.
