Great place to grab a quick slice (or multiple slices). There is a seating area. Be warned, there is no bathroom available for customer use, so if cheese doesn't agree with you, remember there's no bathroom here before you visit. Depending on how high your stomach capacity is, the portion size is either amazing or deplorable. One slice is pretty filling for me, personally, and I will not make the mistake of ordering two again! On the bright side, thank you Upside Pizza for indirectly introducing me to new friends (I did not want to commute home holding pizza, and gave the extra slice to a friendly group of other twentysomethings). read more

Of course we had to get a classic New York pizza on our trip and this place did not disappoint. On a bustling street in lower manhattan, this place gave me the chaotic and hectic New York pizza experience I was looking for. I got the spinach cream pizza and tavern style pepperoni and both were amazing. Cooked to perfection and had all the toppings I loved. Visited this NoLIta pizzeria location's reincarnation as Upside Pizza for the first time, noting the short line out the door, its recent hype, and my memories of slices here as (if I recall correctly) Pomodoro. My experience with my plain cheese slice: 1) Ordering seemed slower leaving a lot of time between customers. Plus once my slice appeared, the person at the register seemed challenged, taking maybe 4-5 minutes working through difficulties with the system's menu entering the prior customer's order for their slices. (Way too long waiting to pay, while my pizza was losing its heat!) 2) While a good crust and sauce, absolutely not a fan of whatever cheese they used! Not just the taste, the cheese created a lot of grease that dripped off the top of the slice. (See pic showing the gross, excess grease coating the cheese! Beware! It dripped onto my shirt!) Made me knock it down to 4 Stars! 3) The annoyingly loud music during the wait and quick dining time didn't add to the atmosphere! The frenetic tunes just made me consider getting far away from there as possible! That being said, Upside Pizza is the best option, as far as I can tell for the time being, in this neighborhood. Regardless, find it a little overhyped. If the line is too long and you have the time, head to better 5 Star New York slice options! read more

I've tried most of the spots were deemed the best slices in Manhattan according to popular opinion, and I'd say Upside is one of my favs so far. Everyone's perfect slice is different but I just liked the flavor of the mushroom pizza (a nice lemony zest), and the crust is thin and crispy. read more

Came here for a quick bite and the pizza wasn't bad. There were only three options when I went, which was a shame. But, I got two slices and their garlic bread. They warmed it up so it was crispy on the bottom (but I wish they left it to warm up a bit more as the top wasn't that hot). Good pizza, a bit on the pricier side, but not bad. Had the pleasure of trying a number of slices here, and they were all winners. Loved the cheese and mushroom ones in particular. The team is super nice, and moves quickly. You can usually find a seat in the shop or outside. A great bonus is that they have an associated soft serve ice cream shop attached (Softside). I am still thinking about the Pistachio soft serve with sprinkles I tried there - highly recommend! read more

I stopped in here for a slice when visiting NYC a few weeks ago. My friend and I did a mini "pizza crawl" where we tried a slice from three different places and this was my favorite! I ordered the Cacio E Pepe slice and it was so good it is hard to describe! I loved the tang of the cheese but the cool ricotta on top. I would happily order this again! I like how most places warm up the slice for you so that it's fresh and the crust is crisp. The decor is also a fun retro style, and there are tables outside where you can stand and eat! The dough on this pizza deserves five out of five stars. It's so crunchy and delicious and the sourdough flavour really comes through. I think the styling and decor inside is nice and it feels really peaceful, especially on a chaotic hot day after you've walked through chaotic Union Square. My plain slice was excellent. I have no negative feedback for it whatsoever. It was very yummy and it was so good compared to the other slices I tried that I wished I gotten only plain slices. The cacio e pepe slice was simply inaccurate. That dish when made as a pasta stands out because of the sharpness of the pecorino romano and the toasted black pepper. The pizza slice is too subtle in its flavours, so it doesn't feel similar. I had a perfect cacio e pepe slice a little Neapolitan-family owned pizzeria in Rome and it was tremendously delicious. It became my benchmark, so while it may not be a fair, the Upside slice tasted bland in comparison. The other non-tomato slice I had was with white wine and mushrooms and it simply was not memorable at all. But the plain slice was so absolutely perfect, even with nothing else on it. They had to have put a little bit of love in that one. It was so good that I was doing a double take to see if there were more available in case I wanted to order some. That one slice would keep me going back to chaotic Union Square so that I can get this pizza again. read more

What better way to celebrate pi day than with some pizza! Heard great things about Upside Pizza so I decided to try. Of course, the way to judge a pizza parlor is with their plain cheese slice. A little on the smaller side when compared to other pizza places I've been to. Taste-wise, it's not my favorite pizza... but it's good! This place is definitely for CRUNCHY crust lovers. There is zero flop to the pizza. Also for lovers of pizza on the saltier side (I prefer my sauce a little on the sweeter side). The cheese is also a little more on the charred side. Crust is sourdough so it's just like sourdough bread. Lots of seating indoors and outdoors. I wish the tables got more of a wipe-down between customers. All in all, solid slice at $4. After a perfume event over the weekend, Michael and I went to have pizza at Upside Pizza. We got a table which was a nice surprise. He got two slices which he found greasy and mopped it with a napkin. It was his first time here. I chose a plain slice with two garlic knots. I am always in search of garlicky soft and chewy pizza knots. I gave a knot to Michael. I found both my choices tasty and I finished it all. There is a restroom here but it needed cleaning and tissue paper. Several customers started arriving and it's good that there is outdoor seating. We weren't hurried off so we enjoyed chatting. The best pizza spot I've found in NY so far! It's crispy at the bottom and has the best crust! The crust kind of tastes like a delicious pie crust! It was quick service. I didn't like my pizza very much though, mushroom seemed a bit old. It was unbearable greasy. My girlfriend didn't like her cheese pizza either. What saved them is they at least happen to have way more seating options (although still very limited). I also gave them another point for having coke in a glass bottle - which we all know makes it 10 times better. In all - I would AVOID getting pizza here. Definitely better places to try read more

My first time here and I have passed by it alot. For some reason I was in the mood for pizza and it was across from the store I was at. I walk into this place and I wish you could smell it from this review. Smelled like fresh Pizza it really did smell soo good. They have indoor and some outdoor tables. There was great music being played here as well. I got a regular pepperoni slice. It was a bit smaller than I thought but it packed alot of flavor into it! Staff was nice. Checked out upside pizza in SoHo. The interior space is small but enough sitting for groups if needed. I was debating between that in the tomato, but went for the upside down Sicilian. While I came to visit New York, I was always told to come try the pizza, and this place did not disappoint. Even before going inside I can smell the pizza outside and had to try. It was crowded but I did come during the weekend and thankfully was able to find seats. They were a bit messy inside but with how busy and crowded it was, it was not surprising. The pizza on the window looked good and fluffy but only wanted a pepperoni slice. The guys there took my order and was able to get my food somewhat quick. At first the pizza itself didn't look impressive and was greasy but was a huge slice. Once I picked it up and started to eat, I was actually surprised that it tasted good. The crust held up well so wasn't flopping all over like I expected. The crust was good too and had a good crunch. I like how the sauce was light and good amount of cheese for sure. The place is normally packed and understandably so! The pizza is really good. In the area things can get expensive literally because they can. This was my first time trying mushroom on pizza and it was SO good. Usually the mushroom looks all wet and floppy. The slice was able to stand up after being folded in half. Ya'll should check it out if you haven't but beware! It's going to be on the louder side. It's more of a grab and go space in my opinion. read more

This place is always busy but the pie is pretty decent! There's a guy behind the counter who is rude AF. Other than that I will say that management / owners(?) are very attentive and kind. 7.1 Decent late night weekend option. If you're looking to soak up some alcohol, then this is as good a spot as any in the neighborhood. If Prince St is packed, then this is your second option. As much as I wanted to dislike Upside, these uppity newcomers have won me over with their sourdough crust and fresh-made mozzarella. As a fun fact, these are the same guys who own 2 Bros Pizza, the cheap slice chain. But they are also pumping out IG-quality, artisanal pies (at more artisanal prices) in at least 2 locations in Manhattan. The crust is very solid and the dough works surprisingly well on a NY pie. It immediately became one of our top 5 pizza places in NYC and my son's and wife's overall favorites. read more
