Chamblin's is a staple not just for a snack and coffee, but due to the third space atmosphere it provides as a whole. I love coming here for a quick coffee or veggie bagel, but the atmosphere and ambiance take the cake. This local, second hand bookshop is inclusive to everyone. Everything is fairly priced. I love getting a coffee or Greek yogurt cup and taking it to a reading nook on either the 1st or second floor. I've loved Chamblin's for years and hope it is here to stay. read more

I really didn't expect the food to actually be good because I just saw the cafe as an extension of a bookstore, but I was pleasantly surprised! The bagel was hot and really delivered on the jalapeño and cheese. And the chai latte had really good flavor. There was a good amount of seats, with good wifi, and I did see some outlets! The bookstore itself is also really nice. It's pretty organized but also feels kind of chaotic in the best way. And it's way bigger than I thought. I low-key got lost in the shelves, but they have signs pointing to the exit thankfully. read more

impeccable location with simple clean food. Prices are reasonable for the location and the fresh quality of the food. They are very open to customizations. Convenientlly located within walking distance to the library and James Weldon Park, this is an unbeatable location for a cafe/bookstore. The bookstore itself is an iconic local business, with the uptown being its second location. The collection of used books is massive, and the multimedia selections range from CDs/DVDs to even board games. The trade in program is a great way to reward patrons and loyal customers, and teachers receive a discount with proof of employment. Makes sure to follow the Instagram for the location as they have an offering of free events like Blackout poetry classes every 2nd and 4th Sunday. This is a great location, and definitely a prime spot for a friend gathering or just a chance to have a quiet space to catch up on your tbr list. read more

This bookstore is fun and the people are helpful. Wandering around is an interesting experience but if you are looking for something specific, I recommend asking for help at the desk. It's so big. It's just overwhelming for many people. They have all kinds of great treasures there though. We bought books, a Ravensburger puzzle, and games. We even enjoyed lunch. read more

Nice coffee shop across from the library. This place has outside seating and inside seating. You order when you first walk in. You seat yourself. They deliver the good to your seat. I tried the iced chair tea over ice with jerk tempeh wrap. The wrap was nice. The flavor was ruch. The iced chai tea over ice was perfect choice for my wrap. The flavors all balanced out perfectly. They do NOT have a military discount. read more

Bookstore and cafe with a huge selection of all genres, including local writers, board games, a music and movie selection, too! Don't forget to visit the second floor like we did. They have used and new books and there is truly something for everyone. There were also curated staff picks if you're looking for a recommendation. The cafe has lots of seating for enjoying your book or anything that you purchase at the cafe. We got a fruit crumble bar and it was delicious. Will definitely be visiting again on our next trip to Jacksonville. read more

I recently visited this bookstore during my visit to Jacksonville. This location I believe is located in the downtown area. I didn't see any parking lots, but there are paid street parking. Walking in, you can either go straight into the bookstore or turn left to go to the cafe. I didn't try any of their food or drinks, but the cafe had plenty of table/seats to relax in. The bookstore portion of it consists of 2 floors. You can find a map of the store at the cashier table. There are rows and rows of books in each floor, but they are surprisingly organized by genre and authors. They also sell both new and used books, which is great for those who are trying to save some money or trying to find some classic books. The staff were very friendly and helpful. read more

LOVE this bookstore. If you're a lover of books, you'll love this bookstore. This is a place to release wonderful books to others for cash or store credit and to pick up new faves. You can spend hours in this place looking at all the books they have. They also have a cute little cafe where you can grab a bite to eat. Everybody working there is pretty nice. I did go one time and there was a man instead of the ladies who normally work- he was not as pleasant. But the ladies who work there are very nice. They give good prices on the books you sell to them. Parking might not be great because it's downtown... but the walk is worth it.... Because BOOKS! This is also a great place to park it in front of your computer and work... super cozy and quiet. read more

Great book selection for the book hunters. Cafe must have had an off day because "out of" espresso beans and some baked breads for sandwiches. Usually really understanding but the dismissiveness and snarky we are out convos was a little off putting. They made no other sandwich suggestions. A perfect place I would imagine on most days. When you need a change of pace from the original Chamblin's, go here and explore the upstairs. Nice, simple cafe with a really good bookstore. Well-organized and kinda library-ish, but with an oddly placed bookshelf here and there. I have only been once, and because I'm not local when we're in the area we're typically headed to the main store because it's even better. Some of the sections they have are unique to Chamblin's simply because other bookstores don't have enough books within that category to actually create one! Jacksonville is lucky to have these 2 awesome bookstores. read more

This place has the best lattes around, their menu is actually pretty extensive when it comes down to drinks. They have coffees, lattes, teas, Italian sodas, almost anything you can think of for a morning pick-me-up. Their pralines brownies and cookies are to die for, perfectly sweet and melt in your mouth. If you haven't I'd recommend you give their bagels and breakfast or lunch menu a try - it always looks delicious. The service is fast and everyone is polite. There's no pressure and they're quite patient. The cutest couch and seating is by the entrance for when you're waiting. Not to mention all the books just a side step away to peruse! I always enjoy taking my morning walk on my break down to grab my caramel latte - extra sweet! If you're a local, give it a shot on your morning commute. Cheap, simple, and worth your time. read more

Not going to lie this place is fire. I often come here before work to grab breakfast and coffee. My go to is the Vegan wrap add bacon. Great place to get some work done or to take a lunch break. I love the Brick and Beam rustic vibe. read more

The coffee shop and cafe in Chamblin's feels exactly right for that shop, where you can get lost in crowded aisle of books. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options exist, and small cafe tables are plentiful. You can also sit outside, and with the location being right at Hemming Plaza, there is always something to watch if you're not buried in a book. On this morning, I saw a local politician meeting and making calls, as well as a local developer having a quick meeting about a space. It feels like that kind of spot, where people of all walks can gather. Personally, I only ordered a chai latte, but it was hot and good. I do wish that there were non-disposable mug options, which would be good for a more green friendly business. Parking options are tough during the week, and WiFi would be nice, but for a downtown bookstore, neither are unexpected. read more

Chamblin's is one of the coolest bookstores EVER! Both Jax locations are overflowing with new and used books, and are a must-visit whenever in the Jacksonville, FL area. The "Uptown" location also includes a delightful food and drink nook, where you can hang out with friends, refresh your palate and discuss your newest literary discoveries. Chamblin's also offers the very best trade-in rates for your used books, and the people there are the best - Johnny and Cari are tremendous Chamblin's reps and a pleasure to get to know. If you are into dreamy used book stores, Chamblins Uptown fits the bill. If you aren't, your loss. Let's start with food because I struggle to think straight when I'm hungry. The menu is simple, I went for the Big Bang bagel which is your choice of bagel, cheddar cheese, and a ton of veggies including sprouts, one of my favorites. I have to give these ladies props, it was huge and all toppings remained in tack. Most impressive. My vegan friend, who clearly is also in love with this place, ordered the Sexy Grits and bagel with hummus. Not your style? They have so many vegan choices including a daily special and soups! The coffee bar is always fully stoked, fresh, and hot. Fuel for the hours you could spend in the bookstore when you are done eating. Moving on, the store. There are two plans of attack. One, you can wander aimlessly, I highly recommend this approach your first time. Two, ask. Stop at the counter. Be friendly, ask for a section, author, something. Last but not least, the ask for a brief explanation of pricing, it is easy but you will find yourself with a stack of books and no idena how much money you are spending. There are great deals to be found! When you decide to be a returning customer, bring your books and sell them! I always bring a small bag of kids books and buy a few "new" ones. read more

I'm a used book store aficionado, so had to check this place out while in town! Glad we did. Two floors of top to bottom shelves of new and used books, anything and everything you could think of, any author, genre, new prints, collectible prints, dvds, tapes, cds... There's also a cafe at the exit to eat and drink when you're done! It took me until I was on the second floor to finally notice a price sheet taped to a table top in one of the seating areas, and this would be my only complaint is that some of the older used books that you would expect to be cheap are actually almost full price. Too bad I don't live anywhere near here! Would return. read more

We were recently here for a book reading and signing. It's such a lovely book store. At the front near the cafe, they have plenty of tables and chairs, which is where the reading was. We came with the new book the author was reading, but we were able to pick a few of his other books to have him sign. Also because we love this author and we do want to read the other books in the series. They have both new and used books. One of the books we purchased was new and the other two were used (both in excellent condition). The two ladies working at the counter were so friendly and extremely helpful. They just have tons and tons of books. They seem to be much more organized than the Chamblin's on the Westside. They are located downtown. Keep in mind there is only metered parking, so bring quarters. However, meter parking in free after 6pm and on the weekends in the City of Jax. read more

Chamblin's is an absolute necessity in Downtown Jax. It's the epicenter for books, magazines, cd's, dvd's, records, etc. in an area as confused as our country's current political climate. Meaning, ALL walks of life frequent, surround and hideout here. How can one not get lost in the art of discovery? Millions of pages full of life at one's fingertips sure as hell enlightens my outlook. Sure, you'll find Bukowski's classic titles early on, but then you stumble upon Arnold Schwarzenegger's autobiography and a self-help book focusing on firearm maintenance. FTW My point? Anything and everything is up for grabs at Chamblin's. Its beauty lies in its mystery. Plus, they have a cafe with decent food items, coffee and beer. I don't know about you, but rainy days just got tremendously better! read more

I was volunteering all afternoon at the OneSpark HQ and after having to refill the meter on my parked car a couple times, it was due time to get something for lunch. I had been hearing about Uptown's fantastic spread for awhile, so that's where I headed after moving my car closer to the library. I loved how immediately at home that I felt upon walking in. I am a huge fan of the Bookmine and I seriously think that a cafe is definitely what is missing over there (after being at this location). I was planning on coming back to browse the bookstore after volunteering, but the bookstore side is closed on Mondays. The cafe offers food for everyone. They do have vegan choices, but they also have meat choices. No one is left out here. While I love my greens and salads, I've tried giving up meat and it never worked for me so I got a bit of both worlds. I ordered the BLT wrap with mustard, instead of mayo, and a half of the house salad to go. I'm not sure what they put in their house vinegarette, but it was divine! Two things that I loved: 1. The wrap was separated into two halves for me and wrapped separately so that if I wanted to save the other for later, I could. 2. The half of a house salad container was at least 4" deep and at least 6" across. It was huge, and inexpensive, for only a "half" salad compared to the likes of Panera. I wish that I could have sat there to eat and enjoyed the atmosphere. In any case, I'm hooked and I'll be back to eat and shop soon. read more

So, I was wandering around like I normally do and I came across this on the 2nd floor -- a whole WALL of manga graphic novels! http://media1.px.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/nU8qfRWFpCGKYTdnubb9_w/l http://media1.px.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/OnewCAHP72pXlheEQuDv5A/l http://media1.px.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/vR9uD25sSZaLpukB0WFfNA/l OMG If I could only grab a bunch and step back in time to the 8th/9th grade. I'd be so jealous of myself! Lol. Too bad I'm not as into it anymore and work has taken over all my time even though I can afford anime/manga much easier now. Begging your parents gets old. heehee. So, calling all anime and manga fans, get your anime fix and for much cheaper than you'd buy it at barnes and noble, books a million, or the comic shop (or if you are old skool and still order directly from viz). Anyway, you know I'm too old for it, but maybe my son isn't. ;) On another note, I went to the travel section (a regular stop for me). Usually the books are divided into sections by country and region, but seems like a hurricane swept through because nothing was in any kind of order this time. As for the food, they had made a booboo one time and gave me a burnt sandwich without even noticing how burnt it looked. Wow.. Came and just plopped it on the table, not much of any word. http://media1.px.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/WjLrA5kYsw6vYUlQDEmhRA/l Good thing they replaced it promptly after I said something about it. Chamblin's Uptown is much like the original Chamblins in Ortega, but smaller and with a teeny cafe squeezed in. Located just half a block from Hemming Park, it is literally in the heart of Downtown Jacksonville. Anytime we are in the area, we will pop in and check it out since it's rather addictive. Like the original, the book stacks are high and maze-like, but because of it's size, there is little chance of getting lost in this labyrinth. LOL Better chance of someone hearing your cries for help too, if you actually choose to be rescued. There is a small cafe wrapped around the front with drinks and food. I have had plenty of coffee, tea and hot chocolate but other than a cheese plate a while back, haven't eaten here. Chamblin's has almost everything. If you do not find what you are looking for, please ask. Besides the two bookstores, they also have a warehouse and a catalog computer system. read more

He stated that he could drink one of this every day for the rest of his life! We came back the next day for more (walked eight block for it, in fact!) We both got the iced mochas and split an everything bagel. OMG BEST BAGEL I HAVE EVER HAD! Loved the quotes and pics on the tables too :) You need to try this place!
