The BookMark bookstore is such a cute little gem nestled in Neptune Beach. Long story short, whenever we travel I always like to explore an independent bookstore and see what new books I can find. When I looked on Yelp, this was the only local bookstore for miles (the next closest is Books-A-Million). They are located within Beaches Town Center and are just one block from Neptune Beach. They are a small but mighty bookstore with plenty of options for everyone. The staff was amazing and quickly asked if we needed help finding anything. I mainly like to read fantasy and was able to find some books I hadn't heard about before. I really enjoyed reading the staff recommendations which are small pieces of paper nestled between the pages of the book. I thought that was such a cute detail and made the shopping experience more interactive. If you love books, I highly recommend checking out The BookMark! read more

My two biracial kids (this is important for later) are avid readers so we were happy to find a little bookstore here. There was a woman behind the counter who was wearing a mask, so I couldn't tell if she was smiling or just looking at us. As group after group of people walked in after us , the same lady greeted them and asked if they needed help. The difference between us and the other groups was that I am a POC. Thinking it was a fluke, my husband (who is white) walked back in with my kids later and was happily greeted by the same woman. Just wow. read more

Stopped in here today to pick up a book for a friend. This small bookstore is well apportioned with a wide selection and a helpful and knowledgeable staff. They greeted me as soon as I walked in and we chatted about books for a while and they gave me some book recommendations, as well as helping me locate a book I had been looking for. They also mentioned that they authors come in from time to time to sign books and they sell some autographed books in the store. Once I picked out my book, they offered to gift wrap It for free which was a nice touch. They did a great job wrapping it also. read more

My husband and I passed through Atlantic Beach earlier today and spotted The BookMark and it drew me in immediately. The cashier there used to teach reading and had great suggestions for us for our son. She was even able to look up and tell us what the reading level for our books were to see if they would be a good fit for him. They had beautiful displays of books out which included signed copies of a series of children's books as well. There were local, handmade bookmarks and other gifts available for sale as well. It seemed like the perfect bookstore. Helpful customer service, a quaint and personal feel, and good variety to select books from without being overwhelmed. read more

We returned to the area after 5 years and were so happy to see this bookstore is still here. I am not a huge reader but the last 2 times I bought books from a physical store were both from this shop, a few this time and a couple 5 years ago. The staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. One of the cutest places to visit! The BookMark (LOVE the name) is a full service bookstore. Full service meaning not just a place to sell you a book but a place that connects you with THE BOOK for you! The staff there are highly trained. I personally have known and loved one of their staff members (Mrs. Underwood) since I was in elementary school where she was one of our favorite teachers! They have programs and events, including author signings and readings, bookclubs and so much more. I love the fact that they highlight historical literary moments (i.e. banned book lists) and they promote local Jacksonville, FL authors. The children's section is super cute. My nephew and nieces love coming here to read, be read to, and to select books to take home. It gets expensive when they each want a book(s), but it is totally worth it! Reading is FUN-damental! Note that the store is located in a very popular area therefore parking can be challenging, so be prepared for that. read more

Just went to pick up books I ordered online. Was in/out in 5 minutes and staff was friendly. Parking is a challenge. I didn't want to pay to park for just a quick pickup and there were NO spots open by the store. Thank you for requiring masks as this is a very small store! I've known about The BookMark for a good long time after discovering them during a Google search for local bookstores. I rarely, if ever, make it out this way, so I was pleasantly surprised when a Yelp brunch was happening just down the street. I made some time, before another engagement, to take a quick stroll around the Beaches Town Center with this shop, especially, in mind. I was pleasantly surprised, upon walking in, to see nothing but women working the store. I was immediately asked if there was anything I was looking for specifically (I wasn't), so I just told them how I have been meaning to get up to the store and how glad I was to be there. They're a small store, but they have a pretty great array of subjects spanning from books about our local region to a small graphic novel section. I was happy to see selections of cards, book lights, journals, pins, and other odds and ends that you could grab for yourself or as gifts for others. I didn't end up getting a book today, given my fairly large TBR pile, but I did grab a couple postcards (for a postcard exchange that I'm doing) and a pin. One of the things that I've heard about The BookMark, but haven't experienced yet, is a book signing. They have a calendar of upcoming signings, as well as seeming to have authors sign a few extra books for them to sell later on. I signed up for their email list, so I'm hoping to see what non-local authors might do a signing up at their shop. read more

Lovely locally owned book store with a great selection of books, journals, and cards. I always find something to take home with me when I go in. They also host great book signings and other events with local and nationally renowned authors - I was able to meet former Secretary of State John Kerry at an event hosted by the Bookmark a few years ago! They are currently closed to the public due to COVID, but it is so worth ordering through them and picking up your items curbside to support a small business that has had a huge impact on the community here in the Beaches. read more

I stumbled across this store when I was trying to locate a parking space for Southern Grounds. The store is small but brightly lit with a thoughtful curation of classics, new bestsellers, children's books, gifts, and everything in between. They had an event board on the wall to include readings and signings, and I noticed they had some signed editions of the various books stored on their shelves, as well. Although I was looking for one book in particular (which they had, and I bought!) I enjoyed perusing the stacks and taking note of the "staff picks" they had highlighted throughout the store. I love seeing recommendations from the store itself when I stop into indie bookstores such as this one. I'm glad I happened upon this store, but I'm sad it's not closer to where I live! I'd definitely come here often and even try to make some of their store events with authors, etc. read more

Wonderful and thoughtfully curated. Many complaints about the size of its inventory, as if these Yelp reviewers had somehow exhausted the thousands of books they have on their shelves. Lolz for sure. I, too, walked in and couldn't find the book I came looking for. However, a kind gentleman that worked there gave me and outstanding recommendation from a random shelf I never would have found. Every time my husband and I come to Jacksonville, we make sure to visit the BookMark, and we always leave with a treasure trove of books. The owner and book sellers are so knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and they have such great senses of humor. We try to buy books only from independent bookstores, and the BookMark is one of our favorites. The Book Mark is a little far for me, but I do like to support local stores versus big national chains when I can. That doesn't mean you won't find me strolling the aisles in Barnes & Noble though. The Book Mark is great in supporting the local authors as well as featuring many artists with their visits and signings. What a charming little find of a book store tucked in between Ragtime Restaurant and Bio Max Health Food Store in Downtown Atlantic Beach. This place is locally owned and operated. Although it is small, she carries a great selection of books including a children's section that has all the favorites for small children and teens. Love this little book store and visit every time I'm in town. The staff is always super helpful. On my most recent visit I needed a stamp for a card I was trying to mail and the lady working pulled out her purse and gave me one of her own and then took me outside to direct me to the mailbox. Well for starters the address on this yelp site isn't correct, they might have been at that location at one time but they aren't anymore. After looking and looking along that area my husband and I finally gave up. We started driving down 1st street admiring the small shops when a couple blocks down I noticed the shop we'd been looking for all along. I was very excited and gleamed as he pulled over. The location has pretty nice parking and it looks great from the outside. Once we entered I liked the aesthetics of the store. Neatly stacked books and wonderful table displays. They offered signed copies of numerous titles but their collection was definitely lacking. They didn't have any novels in stock by John Green and he's a pretty big writer these days, the store itself surprised me how small it was and the prices weren't very competitive. I can't see myself ever returning to be honest. read more

How lucky we are to have a local bookstore at the beaches! There is always at least one knowledgeable staff member on hand to answer questions, recommend titles, and point me in the right direction. Also, there is no 'hard sell' here ( in contrast with Books-a-Million staff who must get mega-commissions if you buy into their clubs or sign up for magazine subscriptions). As a local beach resident, I've heard this many times, but I never had it confirmed until recently: this bookstore's employees are perfectly pleasant, but the owner, Rhona, is one of the rudest people I have ever come across in a professional setting. She is arrogant, condescending, dismissive, and she cut me off while I was speaking several times. I was literally shocked by her behavior, and I will never enter this building again. read more

By all accounts this seems to be a nice book store. I remember buying a few things from them in their old location and never had any problems. However, earlier this morning I went in to inquire about any possible job openings and was treated disgustingly. I was asked to wait until the owner, Rhona, was off the phone to ask her myself. Not only did she not reciprocate my introduction she also refused to shake my hand. Instead placing her left hand on mine and lowering it. This alone made me feel embarrassed and unwelcome in her store. But as if that weren't enough she then proceeded to belittle me in front of her staff and customers. She asked what kind of job I was looking for. A little confused by this, as it's a very small store, I answered "something along the lines of stocking shelves or working the cash register..." At which point she curtly replied, "We don't do that. We sell books here". It took all of my will power to remain courteous as Rhona asked me several other patronizing questions, only after which did she reveal that the store was in fact not hiring and that she could think of nowhere else where I should try. While there's the possibility that she was simply having a bad day and I approached her at the wrong time, it doesn't excuse her actions. If you'd rather not answer inquires like this then don't. And certainly don't use them as an opportunity to degrade someone simply for fun. While the store itself is a good one by any standards I simply cannot give business to someone who has no capacity for human dignity. To shop at The Bookmark is to give validation to a luddite. read more
