Sacramento is one of those great hidden gem CA cities that often gets overlooked. Great food, great people, and a great bar scene. So it makes sense that one of my favorite spots during my visit here was a hidden gem smelly dive bar. The Chambers Room is a cash only, one room dive with weird shit all over the walls, and sketchy cliental... I'd love ever second of it. Denise, Debbie, Diane? Whomever she was, our bartender was super friendly and poured with a heavy hand. Which I greatly appreciated in this economy. Four drinks set us back about $20, which is unbelievable! They do serve food, but I was no way near drunk enough to dine-in. I would have stayed here much longer, but I had tickets to the Kings and had to hit the road. How can one not like this place? . I mean this place is a hole in the wall. Across from the arena golden one center. This is the spot for cheap drinks vs the over price drinks in the arena. We come here to pre drink for every concert. . So they have mix drinks and beer. It will be a happy place for everybody. . My man wanted to get a drink around noon and we were downtown. The usual bars dont open until 4pm. My guy said he heard of a place that was open now and has cheap good drinks. So I said why not. When we got to the door I knew what time it was (dive bar). It's not pretty. But I felt comfortable. It was a mix of people old and young. The bar is old but if those walls could talk. If you have ever seen my check-ins, it should be abundantly clear by now that I enjoy adult beverages. Especially in the company of others who don't think twice about letting loose on a Wednesday night. To hell with tomorrow morning, right? Chamber Room is a classic dive. It's in a sketchy part of downtown that I never frequent, surrounded by glowing neon signs advertising bail bonds because, well, we're apparently right by the jail. The great attraction is the deal on PBR. $4 for a 24oz tall can or $5 for a 40oz bottle. Aside from robbing a liquor store, that price can't be beat. It should also be noted that service was friendly and the ladies' room was particularly clean (not surprising when the bartender is female). Jukebox is a TouchTunes and unfiltered. Located in the heart of downtown Sac, a block from the new arena, 2 blocks from the main jail, and 3 blocks from the Amtrak station, I'm sure Chambers attracts quite a diverse crowd, no matter what time of day or day of the week it is. It definitely fits the dive bar category, but in many ways, breaks the mold. As soon as me and my boyfriend walked in, I felt comfortable, safe, and welcomed. First thing I noticed was how much interior lighting there is. I could actually see faces in the crowd (hey Yelpers!) and the beautiful art (by local artist "Couture" ??) on the walls. Some may not like all that light (dives are supposed to be dark and dank, right), but it was a definite plus in my book. The place was relatively clean and didn't smell funky either, although Jenny P said it smelled like chips. I'll take chips over piss any day! The bartenders were efficient, making stiff and tasty drinks (and cheap too!). There are big bags of chips and lottery tickets for purchase. My tipsy self bought both. Hahaha. The awesome music playing in the background was an added bonus. Out of all the dive bars in Sac, the Chambers Room has got to be the classiest of them all! My cousin and I were driving through Sacramento on a road trip (she was on crutches) and we wanted to go out to a bar so we went to the closest one. We walked in and it was a little beat up, mostly people twice our age and twice as drunk. It was the most fun night I have had in a long time. Everyone was respectful and genuinely caring. The people that run that bar not only make a fun environment but genuinely care about the patrons. It is a great establishment that is also home to an incredible artist that goes by Couture and has covered 90% of those walls with his artwork and they are beautiful. The bar and everyone that works there is great. It wasn't necessarily the 'college bar' experience we were looking for but I couldn't be more grateful it wasn't. I'm from a rural area, and I'm not that comfortable in upscale urban bars. But recently passing through Sacramento, I stopped here late one night. Walking in, with the old jukebox playing Motown, the 20th century decor, and the friendly bartenders, I picked up a Budweiser and felt right at home. Arriving on a Wednesday, the bar was full of locals and regulars, young to elderly folks. Everyone was conversing, mixing and mingling amongst each other which made for tons of laughter. The bartenders were super friendly and attentive, unlike most dives. The bathrooms are decently clean. CR is spacey, lots of bar seating and sit down tables and chairs. There is a jukebox that you can download an app and play tunes directly from your phone too! This bar can accommodate a large group of people as well. Walking into Chambers Room is like walking into a garish, kitschy, kaleidoscopic peyote trip. There's a toothless old woman, dressed for romance, dancing in front of the jukebox. There's a guy who says he likes your shoes and talks about them for 20 minutes. There's a lady with giant, frosted eyelashes who leans in so close when she talks to you that you swear she's trying to bite your nose. And there's a guy who cries. At the bar, you get your fill of alcohol-heavy cocktails. Beers are basic--a craft or two, mostly domestic. And then there's the 40-ounce PBRs. There's duct tape at the bar so you can actually play "Edward 40-Hands" here. No telling what they really use the duct tape for. I may find out someday. Because for all its oddities and idiosyncrasies, grit and grime, Chambers Room is the little taste of crazy I need now and again. Maybe the more I go, the more I dance or stare at shoes or cry. While rushing to the Amtrak station to catch a train back to the bay, I realized that me and my friend still had a little time to kill before really having to rush for the train. So we made a short stop at Chambers Room to grab a drink or two before we continued our journey. Walking in, I saw these four-character Chinese sayings on red paper hung on the wall. That only meant one thing: this place is Asian. And indeed the bartender was. This place looks like a hoarder had bought an old school Western bar. There's a lot of weird stuff up in there and the place feels like it's stuck in time. Me and my friend had beers served in cans. I felt like I was paying to drink at a frat house! Canned beer? Who does that these days? She even had Olympias in cans! That was too awesome! Even though we weren't there long, I got the sense that the regulars here are a bit mellower than those at Henry's. I'm pretty sure there aren't Vietnam vets that have shot people in their heads at Chambers Room. So if you need a couple before catching the train, make a stop here. You'll be amused. read more

Prior to a Friday night park show, a buddy of mine said lets go check out this bar. It seems my buddy stumbled across this little gem a few weeks back while on jury duty. The AC worked great as well as the fan from behind the bar that kept the smell of the guy named "Shorty" who was sitting next to me away from me. The beer was cold and cheap, the bartender was great, all and all a great out of the way place to grab a beer after work. I will be back for sure!!!! This is worse than your normal dive bar. Smells like the a homeless shelter & there where sketchy looking people there. The 2 behind the bar must be the owners. Someone needs to teach them about customer service because they have zero. Took over 5 minutes to get them to ask what I would like and their was only 4 people in the place. They seemed more interested in a flyer they were designing than helping a new customer. Plus they charge $1 to use your card there. Their prices are now where near in-line with normal dive bar prices. They are actually higher than a more upscale place. Not going there again. $14 for a Bud Light in an aluminum bottle & a shot of Jameson served in a shot glass. The bartenders are nice, the patrons there are usually normal and just there to drown in their sorrows, so there's not a LOT of whooping it up going on there. Although, there was one outta-hand dude that apparently had to go really bad, so he decided to come into the women's restroom and start pounding on the bathroom door... But, he finally walked away quietly, when I yelled that I was already occupying the WOMEN'S rest room. This same dude also tried to make a love connection for my buddy. I love the Chambers room. It's my home dive bar for daytime drinking excursions in downtown. It's the perfect place for you and a few co-workers to kick out of work a bit early and wind down the day, or bring in a lunch and grab a drink, or sit for a beer by yourself and chill out. Unlike most downtown dives, Chambers isn't awash with in-your-face crazy or homeless patrons. The regulars are friendly and inviting, and Susie, the bartender, is one of my favorites. She always remembers my drink repertoire and the details of our previous conversations, which goes to show that she's paying attention to her customers. Sure, there's no beer on tap, but there's regularly a good selection in the bottle -- where else are you going to regularly find Hoegaarden bottles at a bar? And Lotto scratchers? For a while, FourLoko was here in cans, which made daring friends to chug one a great bar bet. From the service and the liquor and beer selection, to the weird mix of art and junk on the walls (not one, but two autographed photos of Pat Morita) the Chambers is an eclectic dive and a labor or love that's worth frequenting. read more

Plus they gott lotto and scratchers to get you gamble on.It gets compared to Henry's they both have their ups and downs. I can say that Henry's drinks are a lot cheaper and the crowd is more exciting. But there is alot more to do at Chambers and the Bartender is professional unlike at Henry's..Also this place is a lot less loud and the crowd is a bit different.
