Sacramento is one of those great hidden gem CA cities that often gets overlooked. Great food, great people, and a great bar scene. So it makes sense that one of my favorite spots during my visit here was a hidden gem smelly dive bar. The Chambers Room is a cash only, one room dive with weird shit all over the walls, and sketchy cliental... I'd love ever second of it. Denise, Debbie, Diane? Whomever she was, our bartender was super friendly and poured with a heavy hand. Which I greatly appreciated in this economy. Four drinks set us back about $20, which is unbelievable! They do serve food, but I was no way near drunk enough to dine-in. I would have stayed here much longer, but I had tickets to the Kings and had to hit the road. Shout out to Alex Lane for the company and recommendation! read more

Honestly, my favorite place I visited in Sacramento. I was staying at the Sawyer, so it was a quick walk. Cheap drinks, cool ambiance and great people. Joseph was the bartender and he was the best. I'll definitely stop in any time I am in town. read more

Cool regulars, including the one sleeping in the corner. Prices so reasonable the Brit next to me had to ask "really"? Great selection on the jukebox, I Learned the Hard Way it does not give change. Worth it though. Susie's been the barkeep for 40+ years, starting when she was approximately two years old. Her husband and daughter are artists, which is why she has to work so hard. read more

A true dive in the best sense. The cost is reasonable and it's what you would and should expect. But when you ask for Patron, you get real Patron with extremely friendly service. That's what people want from a dive bar: unpretentious real people who are friendly and sane prices. Not pretentious mean people and high prices read more

Good prices cheap beer music too loud and not my fancy in my opinion but grate bang for your buck.

How can one not like this place? . I mean this place is a hole in the wall. Across from the arena golden one center. This is the spot for cheap drinks vs the over price drinks in the arena. We come here to pre drink for every concert. . So they have mix drinks and beer. It will be a happy place for everybody. . I like coming here for their pbr because for a giant 40oz bottle in glass is only 7 bucks. I mean it's like drinking a pitcher. I mean if you think this cheap beer ain't gonna get you buzz, I say try it. It's a quiet and chill spot to come here and drink. . So mix drinks. I dont know because I usually just go to the well vodka and cranberry for 4 bucks and hey! Its lit! After the first shot. . So yea I always have a good time when I'm here. I created good memories with everyone I come with and introduce to. If you want to pre drink with me before an event or concert, I'm most likely here ;) thanks for reading and have a yelptastic day! read more

Jesus Christ, Why Am I here? (Lord Have Mercy) SITREP It's a toss-up. What dive bar in Sacramento really deserves the title of "Classic Dive Bar"? THE SETUP When you consider important metrics such as sticky counters, smelly bathrooms, puke on the sidewalk near the front entrance, urine streams in the adjacent alleyways, etc. etc.? And I have to say, "Sorry, Chambers Room", but places like Round Corner and Hentry's have it over you in the respect that I'd rather go back and visit YOU before I'd visit either one of them again. Sooooo, there's that. THE PLUSES * Cheap Drinks! (What else matters, actually, right?) Whether missile silos of PBR or mixed drinks like a Jack & Coke, this spot delivers. * LOVE THE DECOR! Random! Crazy! Fun! https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/chambers-room-sacramento?select=Ot4oOpj_kA0Nxyhg8BZn1A * The Charming Haphazard Record Keeping (I just hope they don't get audited in the near future) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/chambers-room-sacramento?select=182feBjIFM0S1CQXHgscew * The ART - props to Chambers Room for featuring local artists, that means a lot and hence the 3-Star (as opposed to the 2-Star rating that some other dives get) https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/chambers-room-sacramento?select=kbsj2W3mXuMdyVLP13WbLA THE CONS Some significant cons too.. * Downtown, as in "The Heart of Downtown", so parking suuuuuucks; * Grimey, SF-Tenderloin-esque environment in the immediate vicinity; * Very Blue Collar - so may not be your crowd - and if you're reading this on Yelp, c'mon, let's be honest, you're probably a white collar, I.T. profocient professional, and so, this really IS NOT your kind of place (ARE WE being brutally honest, or are you gonna bullshit me again?); and, * In the alternative, if you DO work for the state as a white collar professional, but you're trying to to come off as a "blue collar" down to earth kind of guy that happens to work downtown, IF you're trying to get your drink on "in private", chances are you can't be anonymous since you'll probably run into someone you DON'T want to see... PRO-TIP Survey question asks "Accepts Credit Cards" - So. Here's a question you have to ask yourself: = Do you want to keep a tighter rein on your credit card number from getting out? Not saying this is a risky business. = And as just as a matter of practice, in some categories of places, you may be protecting your credit history and your credit card balances better by paying cash. Just sayin. No judgements. But just sayin. ADDITIONAL BOTTOM LINE DECIDERS FOR ME If I'm with a gal and I'm trying to make a good impression on the first few dates, the "First Question" I have to ask myself, "Is this the type of place I'd bring her?" Defihitely Not. Second Question. If I'm by myself, then "Is this a place I'd drink by myself?" Again, "Hell NO". I live in Midtown, and if I'm going to drink by myself, I'd rather be close to my home, and there's too many more pleasant options in Midtown (LowBrau, Weatherstone, Kupros, The Merc, De Veres, The Republic, Chando's Cantina, Capitol Hop Shop, etc. etc..) and, more importantly than the drinking-part, being wiith the demographic of people I'd rather meet in random encounters. THE LOWDOWN Dive Bar. DEFINITELY: Not the worst in this category. But not enough incentive to divert me from better options. read more

My man wanted to get a drink around noon and we were downtown. The usual bars dont open until 4pm. My guy said he heard of a place that was open now and has cheap good drinks. So I said why not. When we got to the door I knew what time it was (dive bar). It's not pretty. But I felt comfortable. It was a mix of people old and young. The bar is old but if those walls could talk. The stories it would tell. The man behind the counter was nice and promptly served us. We asked for Mai Tai's. He was honest and said he couldn't remember how to make it. It's been years lol. We made it easy for him and got 4 Old fashions (2 each). They were good and strong. Not watered down and got the job done. And the best part. Only $16. That's unheard of now days. Good place to pregame before a event or if you want a quick cheap drink without all the pomp and circumstances this place is cool. read more

If you have ever seen my check-ins, it should be abundantly clear by now that I enjoy adult beverages. Especially in the company of others who don't think twice about letting loose on a Wednesday night. To hell with tomorrow morning, right? Chamber Room is a classic dive. It's in a sketchy part of downtown that I never frequent, surrounded by glowing neon signs advertising bail bonds because, well, we're apparently right by the jail. The great attraction is the deal on PBR. $4 for a 24oz tall can or $5 for a 40oz bottle. Aside from robbing a liquor store, that price can't be beat. It should also be noted that service was friendly and the ladies' room was particularly clean (not surprising when the bartender is female). Jukebox is a TouchTunes and unfiltered. This is definitely the new spot to pregame an event at the new arena. read more

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvdXLXZlQ5E You have to listen to that while reading this review. Humor me. Do it. What a wonderful blue collar place to take the edge off after work! Thirsty hard working folks are there to drink. You are going be involved conversations between veterans comparing the various armed forces divisions. You are going to be involved in the age old lazy overpaid state worker debate. You are going to be confused by a patron slurring in your general direction. These guys watch the SF Giants chasing well liquor shots with canned beers before jumping on the RT home to their overpaid state worker opulent abode in Oak Park or South Sac. It's my kinda place. Yes, indeed. Barkeep slash ringleader, Susie, is easily one of my faves in Sacramento and absolutely cool as a cucumber. The various scoundrels holding down the counter are like her dysfunctional family kept in line and in good spirits. You will feel welcome here. Chambers Room, I salute you. read more

Chambers Room - Chambers Room interior - Dive Bars Near Me - Sacramento, California

Located in the heart of downtown Sac, a block from the new arena, 2 blocks from the main jail, and 3 blocks from the Amtrak station, I'm sure Chambers attracts quite a diverse crowd, no matter what time of day or day of the week it is. It definitely fits the dive bar category, but in many ways, breaks the mold. As soon as me and my boyfriend walked in, I felt comfortable, safe, and welcomed. First thing I noticed was how much interior lighting there is. I could actually see faces in the crowd (hey Yelpers!) and the beautiful art (by local artist "Couture" ??) on the walls. Some may not like all that light (dives are supposed to be dark and dank, right), but it was a definite plus in my book. The place was relatively clean and didn't smell funky either, although Jenny P said it smelled like chips. I'll take chips over piss any day! The bartenders were efficient, making stiff and tasty drinks (and cheap too!). There are big bags of chips and lottery tickets for purchase. My tipsy self bought both. Hahaha. The awesome music playing in the background was an added bonus. Out of all the dive bars in Sac, the Chambers Room has got to be the classiest of them all! In the past 20+ years that I've lived here, I've never stepped foot into this bar. It's apparent after going last night, that me and my liver have truly been missing out! My cousin and I were driving through Sacramento on a road trip (she was on crutches) and we wanted to go out to a bar so we went to the closest one. We walked in and it was a little beat up, mostly people twice our age and twice as drunk. It was the most fun night I have had in a long time. Everyone was respectful and genuinely caring. The people that run that bar not only make a fun environment but genuinely care about the patrons. It is a great establishment that is also home to an incredible artist that goes by Couture and has covered 90% of those walls with his artwork and they are beautiful. The bar and everyone that works there is great. It wasn't necessarily the 'college bar' experience we were looking for but I couldn't be more grateful it wasn't. (P.S. if you guys are reading this we made it home safe and are awaiting room service right now) read more

If you're looking for a low-key greasy spoon regulars, only type bar with cheap drinks and somewhere you can stop in to pregame another venue, Chambers room is your spot. With three dollar rolling rocks Bush and five dollar PBR tall cans this is a very expensive place to have the days first beer. The bartender knows how to have and keep a good conversation and the regulars will talk your ears off super chill bar but like I said, you know what you're getting into when it comes to cheap beers. read more

I'm from a rural area, and I'm not that comfortable in upscale urban bars. But recently passing through Sacramento, I stopped here late one night. Walking in, with the old jukebox playing Motown, the 20th century decor, and the friendly bartenders, I picked up a Budweiser and felt right at home. Regulars were talking sports and laughing and eating popcorn with beer. I'm honestly very surprised such an old and unpretentious place still exists in Downtown Sacramento, and I hope it still does when I'm next in town. read more

If you're looking for this dive bar on J st, you'll be pacing back and forth on the block aimlessly which is exactly what I did. So to avoid that, just know that it's actually on 7th st and J st. Look out for the bright yellow sign embodying the Chambers Room (CR) name. Your welcome! Chambers Room is definitely a dive you'd want to dip your head in if you're (1) nearby and (2) looking for cheap drinks. Arriving on a Wednesday, the bar was full of locals and regulars, young to elderly folks. Everyone was conversing, mixing and mingling amongst each other which made for tons of laughter. The bartenders were super friendly and attentive, unlike most dives. The bathrooms are decently clean. CR is spacey, lots of bar seating and sit down tables and chairs. There is a jukebox that you can download an app and play tunes directly from your phone too! This bar can accommodate a large group of people as well. Dives deserve a chance, so stop by and throw back a few! read more

Great vibes, stiff drinks, Jackson is the man. This place is about the diviest bar in all of Sacramento.

I checked out Chambers Room again recently because I heard it had received a "facelift" and I was worried about that affecting this dive's unique ambiance. Walking into Chambers Room is like walking into a garish, kitschy, kaleidoscopic peyote trip. There's a toothless old woman, dressed for romance, dancing in front of the jukebox. There's a guy who says he likes your shoes and talks about them for 20 minutes. There's a lady with giant, frosted eyelashes who leans in so close when she talks to you that you swear she's trying to bite your nose. And there's a guy who cries. At the bar, you get your fill of alcohol-heavy cocktails. Beers are basic--a craft or two, mostly domestic. And then there's the 40-ounce PBRs. There's duct tape at the bar so you can actually play "Edward 40-Hands" here. No telling what they really use the duct tape for. I may find out someday. Because for all its oddities and idiosyncrasies, grit and grime, Chambers Room is the little taste of crazy I need now and again. Maybe the more I go, the more I dance or stare at shoes or cry. Even the name--a room in a room?--can make the sane lose their sense. read more

Had a stressful morning in court- guess where I came before noon? Whether I missed my train, bus, the library didnt have my book, or I just dont know what Im doing downtown- you may probably find me hiding in here. I cant think of a better place to get canned Olympia or a bloody mary THAT great and full of flavor for around 3 bucks. I love sitting at the bar listening to tall tales of days gone by while, pretending to read something interesting. If I were to start writing again, in fact, this is somewhere Id choose to sit for a few. Amazing customer service, cheap stiffies~ cool, very low key crowd. While rushing to the Amtrak station to catch a train back to the bay, I realized that me and my friend still had a little time to kill before really having to rush for the train. So we made a short stop at Chambers Room to grab a drink or two before we continued our journey. Walking in, I saw these four-character Chinese sayings on red paper hung on the wall. That only meant one thing: this place is Asian. And indeed the bartender was. This place looks like a hoarder had bought an old school Western bar. There's a lot of weird stuff up in there and the place feels like it's stuck in time. Me and my friend had beers served in cans. I felt like I was paying to drink at a frat house! Canned beer? Who does that these days? She even had Olympias in cans! That was too awesome! Even though we weren't there long, I got the sense that the regulars here are a bit mellower than those at Henry's. I'm pretty sure there aren't Vietnam vets that have shot people in their heads at Chambers Room. So if you need a couple before catching the train, make a stop here. You'll be amused. read more

Prior to a Friday night park show, a buddy of mine said lets go check out this bar. It seems my buddy stumbled across this little gem a few weeks back while on jury duty. If you like Henry's, you'll like Chambers Room . . . especially when Henry's gets overrun by a bunch of douche bags and their whiney betches. . . Happy New Year! Chambers room was a very nice respite from the stupid crowds on K street, and they had a little potluck spread in the back. The bartenders are nice, the patrons there are usually normal and just there to drown in their sorrows, so there's not a LOT of whooping it up going on there. Although, there was one outta-hand dude that apparently had to go really bad, so he decided to come into the women's restroom and start pounding on the bathroom door... But, he finally walked away quietly, when I yelled that I was already occupying the WOMEN'S rest room. This same dude also tried to make a love connection for my buddy. See, they are very friendly here. And the best thing of all... they had an energy drink that actually tastes good- "Bad Boy". I love Bad Boys now, and I'm on the hunt for them. Mmmm, bad boys are good! read more

I love the Chambers room. It's my home dive bar for daytime drinking excursions in downtown. It's the perfect place for you and a few co-workers to kick out of work a bit early and wind down the day, or bring in a lunch and grab a drink, or sit for a beer by yourself and chill out. Unlike most downtown dives, Chambers isn't awash with in-your-face crazy or homeless patrons. The regulars are friendly and inviting, and Susie, the bartender, is one of my favorites. She always remembers my drink repertoire and the details of our previous conversations, which goes to show that she's paying attention to her customers. Sure, there's no beer on tap, but there's regularly a good selection in the bottle -- where else are you going to regularly find Hoegaarden bottles at a bar? And Lotto scratchers? For a while, FourLoko was here in cans, which made daring friends to chug one a great bar bet. From the service and the liquor and beer selection, to the weird mix of art and junk on the walls (not one, but two autographed photos of Pat Morita) the Chambers is an eclectic dive and a labor or love that's worth frequenting. read more

Great bar with well priced drinks - fun atmosphere for a beer after a kings game. Met some nice folks to enjoy new some stories with!

This is worse than your normal dive bar. Smells like the a homeless shelter & there where sketchy looking people there. The 2 behind the bar must be the owners. Someone needs to teach them about customer service because they have zero. Took over 5 minutes to get them to ask what I would like and their was only 4 people in the place. They seemed more interested in a flyer they were designing than helping a new customer. Plus they charge $1 to use your card there. Their prices are now where near in-line with normal dive bar prices. They are actually higher than a more upscale place. Not going there again. $14 for a Bud Light in an aluminum bottle & a shot of Jameson served in a shot glass. Now when people complain to me about the prices where I work I can refer them to this place. read more

It's a cool spot to have a drink.. I just wish they would do something about that odor coming from the bathroom. The jukebox is the bomb and drinks are good. Plus they gott lotto and scratchers to get you gamble on.It gets compared to Henry's they both have their ups and downs. I can say that Henry's drinks are a lot cheaper and the crowd is more exciting. But there is alot more to do at Chambers and the Bartender is professional unlike at Henry's..Also this place is a lot less loud and the crowd is a bit different. But in all this a a nice place to have you a little drink or two. read more

this is a hidden bar with older people hint sugar daddy or mama... nah jk. lol . but yea the crowd is older and has been all regulars or going there for a minute. . What i like about this bar is that its hidden. Not very many people know about it or if thats what I'm thinking. This bar is next to a chinese restaurant and yes they are connected, but two different environments. . as well i love the drink prices. PBR 40 oz is only $5, and a few other PBR sizes. IF your a PBR fan you will go nuts at this place, because thats what they are known for. . Cheap prices for drinks in general, for example 2 coronas and one 40 oz PBR and one jameson shot was only $21 compared to a $16 for a modelo inside golden one center. . This is my pre drink spot for any concerts or basketball games. As well golden one center is only one block away, so its a gem and good for people who don't like walking, and saving a few buck in their wallet. . overall what more can i say about this cool kick butt spot. All eyes might be on you when your a newbie walk in, til they get over it a few seconds so you can enjoy your drink. thanks for reading and cheers! read more

Chambers Room is all kinds of good news and all kinds of bad news. It is such a hole in the wall that you will likely remain undiscovered should you choose to come in and grab a lunchtime beer or cocktail, that is if you can manage to leave without being completely hammered. I don't know anywhere else in town where I can sit at a bar and order a 40 oz. of Pabst for $5 while listening to bad country music on the jukebox. Next time I come here, I am bringing my snake skins and dancing hat, throwing on some Brooks and Dunn and doing the Boot Scootin' Boogie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d05tQrhNMkA&ob=av3e read more
