I got a car through challenge a little over a year ago and with all the COVID stuff going on I've had a rough year with work. Oscar has always worked with me and helped me in any way he can. He always has a solution and never makes me feel like I can't come to him or that I have to hide. He's been a huge help for my family and I. He deserves 6 stars. read more

I've been with Challenge Financial since June of 2018. As a whole, I have to say they're pretty fair. They gave me a loan for a car even though my credit is horrible, and the down payment and monthly payments are affordable. I do live in Merced, about 300 miles away, so all transactions made have been either through text, phone, or email. There is one employee in particular at the branch in Orange, CA that stands out and goes above and beyond. Her name is Favy. She has been my agent(?) since day one, and she is magnificent. Well I never had to interact with anyone until after COVID hit, as all of my payments were made on time. Since COVID, however, I have had to make several arrangements, and of the 3 or 4 reps that I have interacted with, Favy has been by far the best and most professional. She's always calm and understanding, extremely polite, and will try everything she can to make sure we come up with something that works and keeps me in good standing with the company. Hell, she even saved me from making the stupid mistake of returning the car and having yet another bad report on my credit - long story short, some other agents were being rude and completely inconsiderate to my situation after COVID, though I had only extended 1 payment in a 2 year period. Favy calmed me down, asked me to just humor her and work with a plan she came up with, and kept me on track. She shows concern for my well-being both financially and physically, and treats me like I'm more than just a money bag for their company. She is really a great asset to the company, and I recommend anyone to try and get her as an agent. She will take care of you. There may be others like her, but I haven't interacted with any of them yet. Honestly, I feel the moral of some of the staff could be a little more courteous, but in all fairness, they will still work with you as long as you keep in communication with them. I can overlook customer service that isn't the friendliest in exchange for arrangements that work for both parties. Though having both would be preferred. The payment system, though fairly simple, is a little on the high end if you pay online with a debit or credit card ($9 transaction fee). It's a little cheaper if you use the PayNearMe system ($5 at 7-eleven). However, they only accept cash, so if you're paid direct deposit as I am, it's a bit much to have to go to the ATM, make several withdrawals, just to turn around and hand the cash to a clerk and have them load it. There's always the option of sending a money order or check, but I've never trusted that system. They also offer automatic payments using a checking account. That's free, but it withdraws on the same day each month. I get paid several times monthly, so it doesn't always work out for timing with payments. And then there's e-check online. I haven't used it yet, but I believe it's free as well. However most e-checks won't clear for 24-48 hrs, so you have to be careful to make sure the account keeps sufficient funds. All in all, I can't knock this business. It's worth giving them a shot, but there may be another company who's overall process and policies are a little easier, though you may not get the "Favy Experience". I would probably do another loan with them, if I can get my APR down. Of course it would have been the same rate for me anywhere I went, so that's on me. Pros: Favy, bad credit loans, multiple payment options, will work with you during financial hardships, easy to track transactions, history, and balance online. Cons: Mostly based in Orange County, pricier fees for convenient payment options, customer service can potentially be frustrating - depending on agent. read more

Challenge has been a good lending bank so far. No serious issues to speak of. Only thing id say is, i don't like paying a fee to make my payment. They have the power to waive it when they want to. And have done so a few times for me but i still think it's ridiculous to charge a fee to collect a payment. I understand when the payment goes through a third party but when it's direct it makes no sense. read more

He's never made me feel embarrassed or ashamed and he is just an all around amazing human being! Thank you Oscar for your great customer service! read more

I have to say that this was the first time I financed a car loan. It was a great experience for me. I always paid on time, and there was one time I was late, I called and talked to them and they helped me. Got my payment pushed back for a month. I just paid off my car loan and spoke with Vicky Mendez in customer service and she was a delight to talk to. Very helpful. Thank You Vicky for helping me. If you need to finance a car, I would recommend them. Dorothy Hunt read more

My husband has always been on time with his payments, until he was laid off due to Covid and since we have been struggling to make payments however we have been making payments, sometimes late but we pay it. well last month we weren't able to and are short $95 we'll Brenda from there decides to message me some horrible messages and I thinks it's rude of her comments towards someone struggling financially. I know they need the money but we are trying are best to stay on top of all our stuff. Her message to me saying get a job, make your payment or Im coming for vehicle is horrible service knowing I've been in Contact with Oscar letting him know I'm trying to get it to him. read more

We had a late fee in our invoice so we called customer service to see if they can help us with this, unfortunately I didn't get the guys name but when we told him it wasn't our fault that they got the payment late that this was the mail's fault that took longer, his answer was "well then tell the mail person to pay you for the late fee" it's so unfortunate that this people supposed to be "customer service" and they have no idea what's the meaning of their job. read more

DO NOT Finance with these UNPROFESSIONALS!! They have high interest rates and POOR Customer service. Even though my payments are on time Oscar still bugs me for no reason. I've never made a late payment or missed any payments but he's still annoying and when he's rude I ask to speak to his supervisor jacklyn and she's so rude with disgusting attitude and doesn't even try to help you. She gave me jerry coxs (Her boss) personal information and then told me she can't give me his personal information. She tried telling me there was nobody higher other than the owner but I finally got her boss name and other personal info like his schedule out of her. She was literally yelling at me through the phone and expected me to stay calm. Sounds like a narcissist to me.. I don't know how she's a manager she should be a janitor instead because her customer service sucks!!! read more

Terrible service!! Supervisor Silvia Davalos is disrespectful. Very unprofessional. Her way of getting things done is her telling you that you gotta pay the loan or else she will get fired. Harasses you ..Sends threatening messages through her phone, calls your job everyday multiple times. Claims she's been in the business for over 20 years.. sounds to me she hasn't learned anything. There are laws that protect the consumer-creditor. She violates the FDCPA! Contacting 3rd parties ..She gives account information to references to try and get a payment. She's no help at all. She also runs your card without being authorized which I'm sure that's illegal. read more

Unable to provide a zero star which is what this company has earned and deserved.. Absolute joke of a finance company - absolute nightmare from the very first dealings!!! Being told one thing one month to be changed to something completely different the next. Example - can't pay with a visa set up on automatic pay, the. To be told no can't pay with checking account has to be visa... very confusing.. ended up calling all payments in every month! Calling was a nightmare as no one ever answered with their name, would put I'm you on hold and random people answering the on hold call... all the time having to ask each time who I was speaking with..started to just ask for Oscar ( zero star employee number 1) Finally got fed up with the BS and run around .. we decided to pay our loan off in full.. simple right .. NOPE.. had to fill out Authorization Pay Off Forms - which we did and email all the documentation asked for.. this was JULY. Was told then title would take up to 6 weeks.. fast forward not to Mid October- still no title . Call reception, no name given , ask to speak to Victoria Mendez ( zero star employee number 2) told some bs story that our payment was declined but then redone thru a Visa card.. as per financial institution records payment was taken from account provided, no decline and cleared funds as of 07/31.Was then told didn't send in the authorization for payoff. ( funny cause they already took the money 3months before ) proofed we did indeed send the form to which they found!!!.. after being hung up on and talking to two more people . we are told we need to send evidence from our bank that they did in fact release the funds to challenge financial. THEY HAVE HAD THE MONEY SINCE JULY 31st!!!!! We are now still waiting confirmation that our title is indeed being sent!!!! I would never recommend this institution to my worst enemy.. The worst customer service, lack of professionalism, rudest people I've ever had the displeasure of working with.. Will he reporting to the BBB so no one is to put up with them.. SHAME ON YOU CHALLENGE FINANCIAL!!! Own up to your mistake!!!! read more

I have been working with Javier since day one. Every month he gives me a courtesy call to remind me of my car payment. This is the most backward, underhanded, shady finance company I have ever had the misfortune of being stuck with. The balance on my car has never dropped even though I've been paying on it for a year and a half. They've gotten excessive amounts of money out of me for numerous "fees" that make no sense at all. I've received invoices through the mail with random balances on them and no explanation as to why I suddenly own much more that before. If you are looking into buying a used car please inquire about the finance company FIRST and if they work with Challenge Financial stay away. On top of everything else the customer service is TERRIBLE! I've never dealt with so many unprofessional people working for one company in my life. Read the negative reviews! They're not wrong. And I am almost 100% convinced all the five star reviews are fake review by people working for this sheisty company. read more

Oscar in Orange county was such a great help this morning . I really appreciated the friendliness and help he offered.

Very threatening bad customer service! Very rude people. There are very chosen few that know how to speak to people! Others just don't know how to have a little compassion and care. I'm not one to do reviews because I dont really think they matter or help. I had a financial hardship and my was late on a payment due to a unfortunate event. I received a call from OSCAR and I explained to him my situation and he was very understanding and compassionate. I told him I would make the payment and I was still late. I thought he was going to be a pushy salesman and harasse me. But yet I was lost for words when he was willing to work with me. I wouldve rated 6 stars just for Oscar's customer service. I hope he continues to help people during this crisis and I know I'm returning back JUST BECAUSE OF OSCAR. Thanks man!! read more

Fuck this establishment. They only care about money, and when you try and explain your financial troubles to them, they can't do anything about it and keep asking when you'll be able to pay. I don't have any money coming in due to the recent corona virus shit, since I'm out of a job, and they aren't gonna pay for me not to work. I can't fuckin believe the dumbass of a manager can't even try to understand somebody and let them speak, it's either his way or the highway pretty much. Eat shit and die Challenge financial, you horrible horrible business. Learn to actually deal with your customers instead of yelling at them. read more

I have had ups and downs with this company. Recently (last month) I was struggling to make my payment. I asked for an extension and I was denied. He explained I have 2 left on my loan but he didn't WANT to grant me one. He went on to promise that if I was able to make my November payment he would grant me an extension for December. He also requested that I go on Yelp and leave him a great review. So when my due date for December came, I called and reminded him of the extension promise. He laughed a little, sighed and said why. I explained my situation and the lack of work due to COVID. He said there was nothing he could do, literally said 'come on' like I was wasting HIS time and then gave me a really hard time. He said I not only needed to make my payment but I also had to pay more! I couldn't believe that he not only lied and manipulated me but also had to humiliate me in the process. I don't recommend doing business with this company. read more
