This was our second stay in Brian Head, and we were so happy when we found this last minute deal...The location is fantastic, walking distance from the slope, in one of the best resorts in Utah. Unfortunately location, location, location was not enough to make our stay there a pleasant one. The condominium we goat was:
1. EXTREMELY SMALL. We had a bedroom + loft condominium. The bedroom is ~11x11ft, "living room" ~ 11x18 and the loft ~ 11x8. When the "pull-out" sofa in the living room is extended, it blocks the access to the loft and to the outside door...so much for fire safety. Bedroom had one queen bed, but one of the closet doors would not open completely because it was hitting the bedside table, and the other door, when opened, would completely block access to the bed on that side. Did I mentioned that the TV was a puny 13" kitchen unit?
2. VERY OLD and POORLY MAINTAINED: the microwave was probably 30 years old, and so small, it took four times longer to warm up a cup of water for hot chocolate that it takes at home. The "heaters" were so old, one of them had a piece of wood for a button and would turn continuously, and the other one had a "make shift" button that had just a "max" and "min" sign...no idea whatsoever what temperature you were setting it to...The table was hobble, there were only 2 chairs (in a unit that was supposed to host up to 6), with one broken chair poorly hidden on top of the bedroom closet), the toilet valve was leaking (they never fixed it for 4 days, even though I complained about it every day). The bedroom door was so crooked, it would not close, and the front windows and door were so poorly isolated, you could feel the draft, when sitting on the couch.
3. Like the above were not enough to make it a bad stay, the SERVICE was AWFUL: when we got there the apartment was ice cold. We turned the heaters on, and they broke after half an hour, together with the light in the puny bathroom. In any other hotel or resort, when you call the "office" and complain that the heaters are broken when there are 30F outside, and there is no light in the bathroom, they would immediately send somebody to look at the problem... Not here...the "clerk" started to try to guide me on how to check the circuit breakers...when I told her they were all ON she "invited" me to the office to "see what we can do about it"...when I got there it was clear what she had in mind: she was waiting for me with 3 portable heaters (almost as old as the ones in the room). The situation was obviously NOT a surprise to her, and was not happening for the first time, as she seemed to be well prepared for the it...needless to say I had to carry the heaters on my own back to the room...She promised that "if you toughen it up through the night, we'll take good care of you"...they sure did...they refunded me a whooping $17...turned out the problem WAS a circuit breaker...but one she had no idea about...located outside the room...
4. The managers on duty were in my opinion IRRESPONSIBLE and GREEDY: ever since we got there I complained about the icy/slippery stairs, and the big patch of crystal clear ice right in front of those stairs. They never did anything about them...and when my son fell on that ice and BROKE HIS WRIST which forced us to leave, they did not want to refund me the last 4 days of our stay. They said it was not their problem (sure, they didn't put the ice there) and the policy is very strict: no refunds during holidays, not even in an emergency medical situation. She even had the audacity to say that even if one died there, one would not be entitled to a refund "because our policy is very strict about refunds during holidays...we have a responsibility to our owners, they need to make money on their investments"...Clearly the emphasis was not on the CUSTOMERS...
Too bad they don't pay more attention to the place. It has enormous potential, and it could be a fantastic place to stay in this wonderful resort. read more
