He had the three P's- passion, professionalism and patience. He fully explained EVERYTHING about our bikes, so we fully understood how they worked and how to ride safely. We bought additional stuff and had to exchange an item. Gill, made the exchange and showed us how to install the bike rack we purchased. He actually TAUGHT us how to do it. I purchased a used bike with the intention of having it to just kick around on and enjoy the sunshine on some local trails. It needed to have some repair work, so I looked on Yelp for the highest rated bike shop in the area, which led me to Chainwheel Drive (1770 Drew St) on 2/23/22. Unfortunately, the experience left me feeling mortified. When I carried the bike in, the service technician (no name tag/did not introduce himself) immediately, and without approaching or assessing the bike whatsoever, told me that they "don't want" to work on my "Walmart bike." Shocked, I asked why, what was wrong with it? He walked over towards it and then told me I should go get my money back and began to argue with me about the original cost of the bike. When I said it was $250 brand new, he said there "was no way the bike was even $100". I told him he could Google the brand/model of the bike to fact check me, he did, and said "oh, you're right, it does say it costs that much". I asked if he could give me a price breakdown about what all needs fixed so I could decide if I wanted to move forward with this transaction, he again told me the shop is "disinterested" in working on my bike and they "wouldn't want their sticker/name on it". After feeling belittled, I left as soon as possible. An hour later, still shocked at the interaction, I called back to the store and spoke to the manager, Tom. Although I didn't have the employee's name, the manager acknowledged he knew who I was speaking of and said this individual does not normally work in that department. I stopped by to get my inner tube fixed. $17, not bad, not awesome, but worth it as I ride my bike to and from work almost every day. The guy who helped me wasn't the least bit friendly, and quite frankly came off as rude. The wait was not bad at all, I had my bike and I was checked out in less then 20 minutes. Riding my bike home, I realized my tire was almost flat. He fixed the inner tube and then barely filled it up. The ride home is completely uphill, and horrendous after a 10 hour shift. Overall, they did what they were paid to do, but were rude, and didn't fill up my tires enough to ride home comfortably. read more

Chainwheel Drive's value-pricing and superb service, before and after the sale, make them stand out from the rest. And speaking of value, Specialized makes a great line of bikes, and should be strongly considered. Great engineering, well-constructed and I especially like that they make a lot of their own components. Lastly, I've learned professional maintenance is an investment in your bike and fun factor and I wouldn't go anywhere else with my bike. I live in Riverview and it is worth it to me to make the drive. I'm OCD and picky on the advice and service I receive and they have never disappointed me. Chainwheel Drive does not stand behind the bikes they sell. I purchased a $650 bicycle from this store. Within 3 or 4 months the derailluer snapped off. I am not an aggressive rider, it happened on a flat, smooth surface. I brought it back to them and had to argue with them to replace it. Four months later, the same thing happened. I brought it back again and they would not fix the bike without charging full price for parts and labor. I spoke to Cannondale and the rep said that that particular derailleur was particularly prone to these mishaps. The reps at Chainwheel could not get me out of the store fast enough when I came to pick the bike up and have it replaced by Kafe Racer Bike Shop in Dunedin. Do yourself a fave and skip Chainwheel. Go somewhere else. I recommend Kafe Racer. The service is phenomenal. read more

While I waited, I was impressed with Mike's attitude with the customer in front of me; he explained what he thought the gentleman needed and cost options, he really took the time to explain. I paid exactly what the quote was for, then noticed he had also fixed a couple minor issues for me that he certainly could have charged me for but didn't. I bought a $600 Trek bike from this shop 12 years ago and I gave it to a friend in another state, when it would not fit in the POD on our move back to the area. Today, I decided to stop in the shop and I was treated like royalty. Actually, the customer service has improved from 12 years ago. As a beginner rider this is my first experience with a bike shop, but they have the best sales and customer service I have ever experienced in any type of retail. I had bought a specialized hybrid there because I wasn't sure if I was quite ready for a road bike. I started riding and fell in love with the sport almost immediately and decided to try and exchange my bike for a road bike. To my surprise, though my bike had been ridden, I was offered a full exchange! I was expecting to maybe getting half of what I paid back. I only had to pay the difference the road was a bit more expensive.I'm now happily riding a specialized dolce. What I think I like best is that when I walk in they know my name and ask me about my bike. They know my boyfriend is a cyclist (he shops there too) and asks me about his bike. Chainwheel Drive is an authorized Dahon dealer, Bicycle Outfitters used to carry Dahon, but they don't anymore, The claim to fame of Dahon bikes is that they are folding. And one model in particular, the Mariner, is all aluminum and stainless steel for use onboard a boat. I had two Dahons for 10 years until I recently replaced them. My Dahon folding (Zero G) model was not made anymore, so I opted for a Cannondale nonfolding from Flying Fish Bikes. But my wife's model, the Helios, was still in production as the Mariner, so we stopped by to buy her that one. I really I like this store. The showroom is nice and large with lots of accessories, including all sorts of helmets, clothes, seats, bags, and even electronics. Their bicycle selection is extensive, although I must admit I only glanced at it as we were focused on the Dahons. They don't have a lot of Dahons in their showroom, but they happened to have a Mariner. Go figure. The service was outstanding. The folks are very friendly and knowledgable. This location is a bit out of my way, and the only reason I came was for the Dahon, but I have no problems recommending them. The transaction was smooth and I have nothing but good things to say about them. If Dahon comes back with a full size mountain bike with hydraulic brakes, I will be coming back to Chainwheel Drive to buy one. I'm a fan! read more

The selection of biks is more than adequate from kid's starters, trail, mountain, road to time trial, racing, and triathlon bikes. I do have a fave nike store but I still stop by this excellent bike shop just to see their latest Tri bikes! You can find Wilier, Felt, Specialized, and Quintana Roo to name a few. The staff is very nice, knowledgable, and obviously love any and all types of cycling. Mountain, road, or beach cruising they can walk you through the buying process of any bike. They know about all types. They give you a 90 day tune up for any bike that you gets,which is great because they gives you a chance to break it in, and get it tuned up. This bike shop is close to where I live. I bought bikes here for my spouse and I a few years back. We absolutely love our bikes and use them every week! Whenever we have trouble or need service we go back to the shop. We've had them service us free of charge which was unexpected and very nice of them. They are always friendly and fast. My friend wanted to get a bike and I got her to buy from them as well strictly for their awesome support and service after you've bought the bike. My father comes to visit me from out of town and always brings his bike (which was not purchased in their store). Wow, amazing service! My parents enjoyed their bikes, which had been serviced at Chainwheel Drive, but were stolen. This reverse version of me as a kid getting my bike stolen and their support made me want to give some of it back, but I'm no longer in the area so felt helpless. But one call with Ian and he worked it out - selected matching bikes, found them in stock, adjusted each of them, accessorized them (big locks), and even delivered them. I doubt that's something they normally do, but he accommodated everything for me over the phone. Since then they've had some good rides on their nice new bikes. I hear from others that Chainwheel Drive is a good shop - I look forward to visiting in-person some day. read more
