Rented a carbon bike here during a recent trip to the Tampa area. It was an easy process and the bike was great. The team works with you to ensure that the bike is set up exactly how you want it, which is nice when you are travelling but still want to get a ride in. Cool shop, cool dudes. read more

I had a small issue with a bike rental. The manager on duty and I had a disagreement about fault, etc. The owner called me and was so gracious about what had transpired and listened to my version of what happened.. Ended up having 30 minute conversation with him about biking, life, etc. Great guy and went out of his way to rectify the situation to everyone's satisfaction. Being gifted a couple of e-bikes for Christmas, we are new to this biking world. After Christmas, we went into the Clearwater store and talked to Gill. He had the three P's- passion, professionalism and patience. He fully explained EVERYTHING about our bikes, so we fully understood how they worked and how to ride safely. We bought additional stuff and had to exchange an item. Gill, made the exchange and showed us how to install the bike rack we purchased. He actually TAUGHT us how to do it. Because the item we needed was not in stock, we had to order it. Gill called me the next day and told me he was able to locate the item in his other store and would be happy to install it for us. WOW!! Follow-up from a service provider?!!! Yep- Great job Gill and thank you very much! See you tomorrow! read more

My first visit to Chainwheel Drive was to rent a bike for my son as he was coming to FL for the holidays. Brent helped me through the process as I had no idea what type of bike to rent for him. He was kind, courteous and patient. I enjoyed my visit to your store. He also selected the perfect bike for my son and he really enjoyed riding it in Clearwater and surrounding areas. read more

Great shop! Great customer service. Lots of selection. Go here! You won't be disappointed.

Chainwheel Drive is my first choice for my bicycle needs. They have the largest inventory in Pinellas County. And they have the best prices for the models of bike they offer. As a full service shop they can service any bike you have and or sell you parts to DIY. I enjoy visiting and did I mention you can test ride a bike you're interested in? Anyway if you are in Pinellas and looking for a quality bike (not a WalMart $75 special) you would do well to head over to Chainwheel Drive. read more

After being told by another bike shop that it would take 3 weeks to look at my front tire that was acting up, I decided to go to Chainwheel Drive. Within a minute of walking in, they had my bike up on the rack. Not only did Mike tweak the wheel, he also worked on my handlebar. Lubed the chain and gears. Mike then proceeded to tell me there's no charge and have a nice day. Well......if the nice clean shop stocked with high quality bikes wasn't enough, the service and kindness Mike and his crew showed me certainty has earned themselves a whole family of bike riders loyalty moving forward. read more

I discovered this place by moving next door 16 years ago (I think this was before Yelp existed!). I since moved to a different abode but I've always come back for our biking needs. Chainwheel Drive has been the go-to bike shop in Tampa Bay for a lonngg time. Whether you need a new bike, supplies, or your trusty rusty bike spiffed up, they always seem to do it for a fair price and with a friendly helpful attitude. Pro tip: Come in the front entrance if you want to buy stuff. Come in the back entrance if you want your bike repaired. read more

I purchased a used bike with the intention of having it to just kick around on and enjoy the sunshine on some local trails. It needed to have some repair work, so I looked on Yelp for the highest rated bike shop in the area, which led me to Chainwheel Drive (1770 Drew St) on 2/23/22. Unfortunately, the experience left me feeling mortified. When I carried the bike in, the service technician (no name tag/did not introduce himself) immediately, and without approaching or assessing the bike whatsoever, told me that they "don't want" to work on my "Walmart bike." Shocked, I asked why, what was wrong with it? He walked over towards it and then told me I should go get my money back and began to argue with me about the original cost of the bike. When I said it was $250 brand new, he said there "was no way the bike was even $100". I told him he could Google the brand/model of the bike to fact check me, he did, and said "oh, you're right, it does say it costs that much". I asked if he could give me a price breakdown about what all needs fixed so I could decide if I wanted to move forward with this transaction, he again told me the shop is "disinterested" in working on my bike and they "wouldn't want their sticker/name on it". After feeling belittled, I left as soon as possible. An hour later, still shocked at the interaction, I called back to the store and spoke to the manager, Tom. Although I didn't have the employee's name, the manager acknowledged he knew who I was speaking of and said this individual does not normally work in that department. He heard me out and apologized for the employees behavior, which I appreciate. Picture included of my bike two days before I brought it in for a quote. read more

I spend more time and money then I want to admit in bike shops. I've been in them all - big, small, disorganized, clean, stinky, etc. etc. They've got a large selection of bikes on display and in many different sizes. From beach cruisers to mountain bikes they've got it all. At least 4 people asked if I needed help - awesome first impression. All I needed was a water bottle. The gentleman that was helping me not only steered me in the right direction but informed me of the ones that are a limited edition with cool graphics. Here's the kicker - THEY WERE THE CHEAPEST ONES. Bottom line cool people - cool shop. Worth your time and dollars. read more

I stopped by to get my inner tube fixed. $17, not bad, not awesome, but worth it as I ride my bike to and from work almost every day. The guy who helped me wasn't the least bit friendly, and quite frankly came off as rude. The wait was not bad at all, I had my bike and I was checked out in less then 20 minutes. Riding my bike home, I realized my tire was almost flat. He fixed the inner tube and then barely filled it up. The ride home is completely uphill, and horrendous after a 10 hour shift. Overall, they did what they were paid to do, but were rude, and didn't fill up my tires enough to ride home comfortably. read more

I am a long-time (late 70's), three-bike customer of Chainwheel Drive, the last bike a 2020 Specialized Turbo Como 4.0 e-bike (absolutely love it!). Chainwheel Drive's value-pricing and superb service, before and after the sale, make them stand out from the rest. And speaking of value, Specialized makes a great line of bikes, and should be strongly considered. Great engineering, well-constructed and I especially like that they make a lot of their own components. Lastly, I've learned professional maintenance is an investment in your bike and fun factor and I wouldn't go anywhere else with my bike. On that note, I wanted to give a special shout-out to Brian in service for keeping my bikes going. read more

I love these guys! I am very new to biking, and they have always been so helpful with giving me advice on proper bike care and advice on gear. I purchased my bike from here. Chainwheel Drive does not stand behind the bikes they sell. I purchased a $650 bicycle from this store. Within 3 or 4 months the derailluer snapped off. I am not an aggressive rider, it happened on a flat, smooth surface. I brought it back to them and had to argue with them to replace it. Four months later, the same thing happened. I brought it back again and they would not fix the bike without charging full price for parts and labor. I spoke to Cannondale and the rep said that that particular derailleur was particularly prone to these mishaps. The reps at Chainwheel could not get me out of the store fast enough when I came to pick the bike up and have it replaced by Kafe Racer Bike Shop in Dunedin. Do yourself a fave and skip Chainwheel. Go somewhere else. I recommend Kafe Racer. The service is phenomenal. read more

I just recently purchased my 3rd bike from the great people. They are very knowledgeable and friendly. It is great to see a real bike shop is still in business. Awesome service! Dropped off my mountain bike because I couldn't adjust my brakes correctly. While I waited, I was impressed with Mike's attitude with the customer in front of me; he explained what he thought the gentleman needed and cost options, he really took the time to explain. Mike gave me a written quote and a day for pick-up. When I returned he offered to load my bike into my car for me. I paid exactly what the quote was for, then noticed he had also fixed a couple minor issues for me that he certainly could have charged me for but didn't. I am very impressed with Chainwheel and highly recommend their repair shop. read more

All staff were very helpful in my purchases. Two were in stock and one ordered. Prices were good. The store is clean, organized, knowledgeable, accessorized and friendly. Now they are my go to mountain bike store for all my biking needs. read more

As a beginner rider this is my first experience with a bike shop, but they have the best sales and customer service I have ever experienced in any type of retail. I had bought a specialized hybrid there because I wasn't sure if I was quite ready for a road bike. I started riding and fell in love with the sport almost immediately and decided to try and exchange my bike for a road bike. To my surprise, though my bike had been ridden, I was offered a full exchange! I was expecting to maybe getting half of what I paid back. I only had to pay the difference the road was a bit more expensive.I'm now happily riding a specialized dolce. What I think I like best is that when I walk in they know my name and ask me about my bike. They know my boyfriend is a cyclist (he shops there too) and asks me about his bike. I've also gone to their bike maintenance class. Very informative! Forget amazon and any department store. This is my bike shop. read more

I bought a $600 Trek bike from this shop 12 years ago and I gave it to a friend in another state, when it would not fit in the POD on our move back to the area. Today, I decided to stop in the shop and I was treated like royalty. Actually, the customer service has improved from 12 years ago. I had no intentions on buying a bike, but fixing up an old one I bought off Facebook. Honestly, after being treated so nicely and being quoted a fair price on a bike built for a tall guy like me, I just might buy another bike from this shop. Another bike shop I stopped in, the store clerk came running out and confronted me like I was going to steal a bike. Chainwheel Drive for all my future biking needs! read more

Outstanding shop where I have bought 3 bicycles over the years. I always receive great service and advice from the staff. Chainwheel Drive is an authorized Dahon dealer, Bicycle Outfitters used to carry Dahon, but they don't anymore, The claim to fame of Dahon bikes is that they are folding. And one model in particular, the Mariner, is all aluminum and stainless steel for use onboard a boat. I had two Dahons for 10 years until I recently replaced them. My Dahon folding (Zero G) model was not made anymore, so I opted for a Cannondale nonfolding from Flying Fish Bikes. But my wife's model, the Helios, was still in production as the Mariner, so we stopped by to buy her that one. I really I like this store. The showroom is nice and large with lots of accessories, including all sorts of helmets, clothes, seats, bags, and even electronics. Their bicycle selection is extensive, although I must admit I only glanced at it as we were focused on the Dahons. They don't have a lot of Dahons in their showroom, but they happened to have a Mariner. Go figure. The service was outstanding. The folks are very friendly and knowledgable. This location is a bit out of my way, and the only reason I came was for the Dahon, but I have no problems recommending them. The transaction was smooth and I have nothing but good things to say about them. If Dahon comes back with a full size mountain bike with hydraulic brakes, I will be coming back to Chainwheel Drive to buy one. I'm a fan! read more

Variety is the working word here! Biking clothes, parts, everything you need to hit the trails, long distance road work, or completing your bike leg of a Triathlon! The service dept will keep your ride tuned up or brought back to top ride status. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable! The selection of biks is more than adequate from kid's starters, trail, mountain, road to time trial, racing, and triathlon bikes. I do have a fave nike store but I still stop by this excellent bike shop just to see their latest Tri bikes! You can find Wilier, Felt, Specialized, and Quintana Roo to name a few. This is a total nike store! read more

The Cheers theme song comes to mind. "Where everybody knows your name." Everyone knows my girlfriend's and my names. It adds a personal touch that has unfortunately become rare. The staff is very nice, knowledgable, and obviously love any and all types of cycling. Mountain, road, or beach cruising they can walk you through the buying process of any bike. This bike shop is close to where I live. I bought bikes here for my spouse and I a few years back. We absolutely love our bikes and use them every week! Whenever we have trouble or need service we go back to the shop. We've had them service us free of charge which was unexpected and very nice of them. They are always friendly and fast. My friend wanted to get a bike and I got her to buy from them as well strictly for their awesome support and service after you've bought the bike.
