Here's what to know: --The mercantile is an easy walk from Pike Place Market--basically just a few blocks up the hill. --It's beautiful, with exposed brick walls, rambling rooms, and gorgeous displays. --The prices seemed roughly equivalent to what I'm used to paying online, which I really appreciated. --There's a huge selection of spices, teas, herbs, essential oils, gifties, bottles, jars, and other packaging supplies. (If I hadn't been on foot, I would have bought approximately five million jars and bottles.) --Speaking of the packaging supplies: assuming the ones I bought here are the same ones I've been mail-ordering from Mountain Rose for years, they are SO GOOD. Thick amber glass, excellent droppers, nice lids--just noticeably higher quality than most of what you find elsewhere. Highly recommended. --The staff were really helpful and kind, but never hovered while I browsed. Perfect. Can't wait to go back--preferably with a car nearby next time, so I can purchase said 5 million jars.

I swear every time I come in here, I lose all sense of direction and walk out with a bag full of things I absolutely had to have. Today's damage included rainbow and white peppercorns, harissa, za'atar, the holy grail saffron, oh, and some nice-smelling soaps! This place is magical. It smells INCREDIBLE, the selection is amazing, and it's basically impossible to leave empty-handed. Upon entering the store, I was greeted by an unexpected surprise: a dog that seemed to materialize out of nowhere. As someone with a mild dog allergy, this was not a welcome greeting. The dog was persistent in its attention, refusing to leave me alone, which made for a slightly uncomfortable shopping experience. The situation was further compounded by the associates' lack of attentiveness. Despite the store being relatively empty, the staff seemed to be preoccupied with their own tasks, leaving me to fend for myself. I approached one associate, hoping for assistance, but they were so engrossed in their work that they couldn't even spare a moment to check me out for a single item. It was as if I were invisible, a mere inconvenience in their day. The most egregious display of poor customer service came when a female associate was too busy talking with another customer who was complaining about everything. She couldn't even be bothered to check me out for a simple transaction. It was clear that she was more interested in the other customer's complaints than in helping the customers who were actually trying to make purchases. This was a stark reminder of the store's blatant disregard for customer service. The entire experience was not welcoming and this is a 5-star rated store? I don't think so. The store's lack of customer focus and the associates' blatant disregard for their jobs were glaring issues that need to be addressed. I hope this review reaches the right people, as the store has potential, but it needs to prioritize its customers if it wants to keep them. I am not going to be coming back until something maybe improves better.

Unfortunately, the owner was late enough. There were a few people who waited around with us to see if the store will open. As it did, we all rushed in to get our shopping done. Since it was my first time here, I had to explore the aisles of goods I was interested in. The one and only staff was very kind to show me where things are and explained they are also organizing the store. She was genuinely kind to explain some things to me and even gave me pointers how to make my snacks more enjoyable. I like that! They have a lot to offer from Indian to Pakistan goods as well.
