Afternoon tea time was nice and peaceful at Chado Tea Room. It was a cozy, warm tea time while it was raining outside. The service and atmosphere were both good.
I've been to the Hollywood location, and this location is huuuuge but the interior leaves room for improvement. It's cute but just not as elevated as other tea time spots especially for the price of the more expensive tea time sets like the birthday one. I also recall getting actual champagne at the Hollywood location but I may be mistaken. Service was great and honestly feel bad for leaving this review because the ppl working there were so kind. I think it's cute and worth the visit, but I would opt for the cheaper tea time sets.
My daughter and I enjoyed afternoon tea at this tea room, and it was absolutely lovely. From the outside, you wouldn't expect it to be so spacious inside, but once you walk in, it's beautiful and inviting. The interior is decorated with an assortment of different teacups, there's a charming water fountain in the center, and another on the right side as you enter. They offer both small and large tables to accommodate different party sizes. Our favorite sandwich--the one my daughter and I loved the most--was the salmon and egg sandwich. I also really appreciated that they offer decaf tea, which I love. Everything was delightful, and we will definitely be coming back again.
Feels like a cross between a warehouse and a tea room inside to me, with a high wooden ceiling and distant shelves stocked with tea and tea pots to sell. Service is good, the tea is very affordable and brewed very strong in somewhat large, absurd yet cute ceramic elephant shaped tea pots, complete with special sponge attachments to absorb drips. Why they can't use a teapot design that doesn't drip as much to start with is probably a conversation for another day - one I didn't bother to have... Given how affordable it is, you can't expect it to compare with high end tea rooms like you'll find in London, and that's totally okay.

We ran into this spot while walking around the antique fair. It's a very large space with plenty of seating. The walls are lined with tea and teaware. It was decorated for. Christmas which was extra special. Our servers were friendly and quick to serve. We decided to settle on their high tea service. I loved the option to share since we were in between meals. It was an extra charge though but still less than adding a whole new serving. The tea was delicious but this is where the 3 comes in. The food offered was underwhelming for the price. The bottom tray had a Madeline and macaron looked like they were purchased from Costco. I did not try their menu options but I had high hopes for their high tea service.
This is the few tea rooms in South Bay and I quite enjoy it! I've been here about 3 times over the past year. Although it is a tea room, it has the industrial vibes of the Torrance area, which I like because it represents Torrance/El Segundo the tomato soup here can will have my heart and soul, it's one of my favorites. For afternoon tea they have the four half sandwiches. All of which are good, but the chicken one is my #1. The scones are pretty average, and the jam is delicious. If you do the "champagne" tea it is been refreshing. I don't usually get to the third tier because I end up eating the chocolates they also bring you in addition to the tea service treats and those are worth it! Sometimes they bring out two chocolates and other times it's 3. The other reason this review isn't a 5 is because I wish they would warm up the tea if they know it's been sitting out for a bit, and because I don't usually eat the last tier with the desserts
Such a cute place to have a tea party with your friends and family. We celebrated a girlfriend's birthday and it ambiance was a good experience. We did the Chado Afternoon Tea Service and were able to order our own pots of tea to share. I got to try 6 different types and the 2 that stood out to me were White Champagne Raspberry and Irish Breakfast. The food is on the lighter side, but after drinking so much tea we were stuffed. The tea room was very cutely decorated. They had a large assortment of cups and tea pots. The food was okay. I was expecting more pastry type desserts. The sandwiches were ok and had a decent variety. Their scone and tomato soup were very good. We got cute little ceramic cups for ordering the spring afternoon tea. We had some difficulty getting service as we were put in the back corner and had to constantly flag someone down. We also had 2 tea cups with someone else's lip stick stains on them and forks with leftover dried food on them.
I feel like they've gone downhill. The food doesn't taste exceptional. When you're paying a grip for parts of sandwiches and uninspired treats possibly stale it takes the afternoon tea magic away. I've been going to Chado in downtown and South Bay for a decade but sadly I can't spend anymore on their inflated menu prices with smaller menu offerings and meh food. The service isn't great either. Not bad. Just not great. I especially don't like walking in and being confused about where to stand. At door? Go to the counter? Seat myself? And it's painful witnessing other patrons struggling with the same conundrum. The ambience is delightful. Everyone is in a good mood and thus all around the tearoom people are happily celebrating with friends and family or on romantic dates. Tea rooms are special like that
If I could give a zero star I would. From the start you do not feel welcomed. It was 70% empty but, they act like it's booked for a year when booking. We are seated and left alone for 10min without a server to ask if you would like any water while you look through the menu. Once we looked around to make eye contact an older man approached the table. We chose our items. (No one explained the menu and that you choose certain items) because when seat the younger man just walked away from us. The older gentleman poured our tea and that was the END of any service. My soup was lukewarm my best friend soup was scalding hot. My tea was like warm. My friends was a tiny bit warmer. Which didn't allow the tea leaves to seep correctly and so it was watery tasting until the very end of our meal 45min later. We had the themed Halloween tower. Everything was dry or stale. Cold or soggy.... The. The fly... the entire meal... the fly. The sandwiches were slopped together compared to everyone else's around us that has precision cut stake sandwiches. They were toasted and soggy cold bread. There was a dry crust on the stale cupcake, then the worst part. FLYIES!!!! Landing on my salmon. Landing on my friend fruit and one of her items. I'm so sad... we rarely get out together. We have been looking forward to this for a year. Then the gift they give is an awful cup from a business or something.... It was dusty and had residue on the front and filth inside.... Literal drops of dry old tea. I was so insulted by this item. I would have rather not have been given it at all that to be given some odd cup for disabilities with food and old tea and dust on it. I'm truly sad over this whole experience that we were supposed to be there for two hours and asked for the check at 40min in the man that sat us too 15min to bring the check. The food brought home is now in the trash. My tummy is gurgling to the post I am super worried about food poisoning. I feel the uncredited were old. I feel the plates are already set up in the fridge with cellophane over them.
I love chado! Come here mainly for birthday celebrations. The staff are always so attentive and friendly. Their selection of teas is super impressive and ive loved each one ive tried. I usually do walk-ins and get seated each time :) I always order their afternoon tea service and even though it may look like light food i always get super full when I'm half way through my scone. BTW one of the BEST scones in the south bay,always so crispy on the outside while being crumbly and soft inside.
My husband and I received a Gift Card for Chado Tea Room for Christmas and decided to finally redeem it in July. Best Gift Card ever. We had a wonderful afternoon. It was my husband's first time having High Noon Tea. He was very impressed with the tea room and staff. The customer service was great. We chose the "Chado in Wonderland" afternoon tea which was great. It included an iced tea drink, salad, our own pot of tea and delectable bites!! The room is lovely and is located in Old Town Torrance. We went through the week so parking was not an issue. This area gets pretty busy on the weekend so you might have to circle around for street parking as there is no parking lot available. Believe me it's worth the parking challenge. Chado has a lot of different teas to choose from. You can purchase teas and other nice items after your lovely experience. We also received a tea cup & saucer as a gift with our package which was a plus. If you are looking for somewhere to celebrate a special occasion or just want to treat yourself, Chado is the place to be. I highly recommend this tea room and can't wait to go back. They have other locations in Hollywood, Pasadena and Downtown Los Angeles.
I like to stop here for loose tea. They have a nice selection. I generally don't do tea time because it can get costly. I got a few teas, and they let me smell them. The minimum is two ounces, so you have to be prepared that if you buy a lot of teas, it can add up quickly. They had an interesting Halloween blend that I was intrigued to try. Sometimes they have teas that are out of stock, so you have to ask. Their menu is very expansive, but they can give you some recommendations if needed. read more
Selected this tea room for my birthday and was utterly surprised! My friends and I booked the afternoon tea which comes with samples of sandwiches and desserts and a wine inspired cocktail. We select our own tea flavors and the fun part of your friends select different teas, you get to sample each one! This place was phenomenal and I enjoyed the whimsy ambiance and decor. The staff were friendly and accommodating and they gifted me my own special tea cup and saucer! I had such a fabulous experience and I can't wait to return! read more

We held a small family gathering of 10 at Chado for my daughter's 16th birthday and we had a really great time. The ambiance is really nice and super cute in a really large open, almost warehouse kind of space, with tall open beamed ceilings and walls lined with a variety of teacups and saucers as well as a little "photobooth" area where you can sit, try on big hats and take selfies. My daughter loved that. We splurged for the $59/person "Birthday Afternoon Tea" since it was our daughter's "Sweet 16" and it was amazing with an obscene amount of food and drinks which were all delicious. We had a wine inspired tea, delicious chocolates, a variety of teas and a giant 3-tiered tower of tea sandwiches with scones and desserts (1 tier per each 2 people). We had so much food leftover! And of course, we took it home! My favorite sandwiches were the smoked salmon, smoked chicken & cranberry, the olive tapenade and the pesto caprese. The starter of tomato soup was delicious, too. Desserts were amazing as was the super rich slice of chocolate cake they brought out for my daughter. The only reason for the reduction of 1 star was the slow service at the beginning of the event. Once the tea and food started coming out, they were totally on it but we did have to wait a bit of an uncomfortable amount of time to be served in the beginning and we were hungry. One other very small gripe was that they didn't update the chalkboard near our table to wish our daughter a happy birthday (it had the name of the last birthday girl written on it). I still would highly recommend this unique place (and I'm a dude!). I am glad we did the big "Birthday Afternoon Tea" because it was quite an "event" and my daughter felt very special. Again, it was a ton of food so if you aren't big eaters and if it isn't a celebratory event, I'd recommend you choose one of the smaller and less expensive Afternoon Tea Services. read more

Went to a baby-shower for 50 people and the service was so good and the staff over all was so friendly and helpful. We had the full tea experience. The charming teapots all sizes and shapes with excellent loose leaf tea was superb. The finger sandwiches were also a delight . We had the desserts with scones and clotted cream with jam ,they were exceptional! The place is very beautiful with an excellent selection of teas to buy . Would highly recommend this venue for a unique experience. read more
Visited Chado the first time for a High Tea themed fundraiser, and have come several times since for lunch. They offer the largest assortment of teas from around the world that you can have served hot or cold. Great ambiance with over 200 teas on the shelves. My go to is the afternoon tea service that comes with an assortment of sandwiches, scones and macarons. It's a little pricey, but a great place for lunch with coworkers or a ladies brunch. read more

The place is very cute. Very old school afternoon tea vibes and lots of seating. Tea cups they have may be chipped. Both times I went they were. Im not sure if that is by choice or not. Teapots are also cute. Service seemed slow but I also went during a slow time. But servers seemed nice. They seemed to have lots of tea for purchase and a decent selection of teas for their afternoon tea service. Now for the main event. Tea and food. Tea -Earl Grey Imperial. The bergamot was very prominent but it does mention that in the description. Tea was good but the flavor not to my liking. Food- its not really good. I got the regular tea service with the chado salad. Salad was basic, but did taste good but not worth the extra 6 dollars. Macaroon was stale and disgusting. Madeline was store bought. I know cause it tastes exactly like the one I purchased from Costco. Scone (blueberry) this seemed made in house or atleast baked fresh and it did have a good flavor. It came with a clotted cream (i don't think it was though, a little more whipped cream like but good) and an orange jam (tasty). The sandwiches they made were mostly good. They had a tea egg, a chicken salad, cucumber and lox. Two complaints - the scallions on the cucumber sandwich was unnecessary, the lox seemed a little too dry. Since this was the second time I've been here, I would not go for the afternoon tea. I would go for just the tea and maybe a scones. Im not sure if the paninis are any better but not sure if ill try it. This place had a lot of potential. They should improve their food. read more
My sorority had an event hosted here and I absolutely loved it. The staff were so accommodating, quick, and extremely kind. They made sure to ensure we had a great time and kept our tea cups full! The inside is beautiful and very regal. My favorite tea was the one that came out in the clear tea decanter, I believe it was called a blooming tea. The flower is steeped in the water and literally blooms as it is steeped. It was absolutely delicious and naturally sweet. It tasted like honey and rose and lavender. They also had another tea that tasted fruity like berries, very good as well. The food spread was also delicious. My favorite was the scone with cream sauce and jam and the smoked salmon toast. There were also egg sandwiches, cucumber sandwiches, chicken salad sandwiches, Madeline's, and macaroons. This was such a great time. I loved my experience and will absolutely be back! read more
My sister and doggy Haru enjoyed afternoon tea at this quaint and beautiful tea house. We were greeted by our wonderful server Victor who provided exceptional service. I had the Halloween Tea and my sister had the Celebration tea. If you love pumpkin as much as I do, try this Halloween Tea. It was delicious!!!! We were walking around the Downtown Torrance Antique Faire and decided to have tea. We had tried Chado a long time ago. The tea list is immense but is well described. The food menu has sandwiches, salads and of course an option for afternoon tea. We had 2 different types of Darjeeling tea which were served in these beautiful elephant teapots plus an apricot scone and slice of carrot cake. The tea was amazing and desserts were tasty. The tea room has lovely teapots and cups for sale. Tea can also be purchased. It's a great place to relax and enjoy a cup of tea. read more

The sandwiches were very tasty! The scones were good and they have a wide selection of tea (even decaf!!!). The service was excellent and the two guys in charge kept asking us for whatever we needed. Place is spacious and they sell teas and teapots and accessories. Got 2 of the tea drip stopper for gifting that was cheaper and better quality than the one I got from Etsy. read more

Food: it was so cute and quaint, first time at a high tea setting, and I got to come here with no other than the best company: my boyfriend and future mother in law haha. I absolutely loved the 3 tier rack, the sandwiches and pastries were big and filling, each flavor was decently good. We added on summer apple salad, which was refreshing but likely wasn't necessary. My tea was passion fruit oolong, which was perfect blend of tea and fruit, I enjoyed it a lot, and it didn't seem to have too much caffeine, which I'm sensitive to. Price: we got 3 afternoon tea service, which cost $28.95 each and the summer apple salad cost $16.95, which I think are reasonable prices for the food and service Ambiance: high ceiling and spacious inside, walls are filled with tea jars and various teaware, which were a delight to look at. However, all the other decorations looked kinda cheap and not very cute, like they tried to make it elegant and high tea, but failed in doing so. Personally, I think they need to take out the messy designs and just fill the place up with more realistic flowers in one or two color schemes, and maybe white tablecloths. Service: good service, the waiter was very friendly and welcoming. It was a little difficult to get his attention later to get our check, but the place did get slightly busy when we were about to leave Parking: located in old town torrance, there are some street parking within the area. On a weekday early afternoon, we found a spot just half block away and walked over 2-3 minutes to the tea room. read more

Chado Let me start with the smell... I don't know why I keep seeing the fabuloso smell. I smelled something else which I wish I would have smelled bleach and fabuloso instead lol... possibly the egg sandwiches or plumbing issue. I do understand where people get upset that you're not greeted when you walk in. It feels kind of cold not to be greeted and the person at the cashier just stands there. But it was okay. We just walked straight up to him to ask if we seat ourselves or if they seat us. The place is huge. Thankfully it was empty when we came. We made reservations but saw that we didn't need to. We ordered the Celebration ($37 per person). I was here to celebrate my birthday. The tomato soup was amazingly the best. I can come back repeatedly for this tomato soup. The next best thing was the champagne inspired celebration infused raspberry tea .... The best!!!! Ordered the butterscotch tea. Didn't taste the way I thought it would. The hubby loved the smoked salmon finger sandwich. Everything was clean. Lots to look at. It was a very nice time. Service was quick. Not too much conversation traffic with the server or person who was also the cashier. But either way it was a nice experience. They had many teas to choose from. The tea infused chocolates were delicious. The price seemed steep for what was given but overall... still a nice experience. read more
This place had some glowing reviews for the tea and being that I am on Spring break I decided to treat my daughters to an afternoon tea without the glitz of some other afternoon tea locations- not to mention they have kid friendly sandwiches and teas. I was really hoping to have a great experience here and I was, the tea was great! I had the butterscotch tea and my kids had the organic herbal tea which they really enjoyed. The food is where it became rocky. I was sharing my tier with my husband when he reached for the salmon toast and he saw a long hair. I immediately got our waiter and he was on it, took it to the back, he brought us out a new order of the salmon. I decided to have the other piece on the top tier thinking it wasn't affected...which was a mistake. I took a look at my piece, no hair. I took a bite and the hair was under the salmon! I called the other gentleman over (owner?) and showed him. At first he couldn't see it but then he did and took it back. He took off the kids celebration afternoon tea which I am grateful for but shortly after we paid my daughters started to try on hats that were on a mini statue next to the center fountain that has blue paint. My daughter said mommy, I think there's a cockroach in here. So I let the gentleman (owner?) know and he came over to look. Cute afternoon tea spot, my first time here. This location was also close to where my friend lived. There's also other locations in CA. I went last month and the decor was Valentine's Day themed. I made a reservation at 3pm, staff were friendly, it was pretty empty, nice space, service was slow. My friend and I ordered the celebration afternoon tea service, it was so fitting since my friend recently got engaged too. We enjoyed everything and were pretty stuffed and had to take the rest home. Can't believe I didn't know this place existed. Took my sister here to celebrate her bachelorette weekend. Such a cute vibe. I went on a Sunday before it got busy. Tried a couple of teas and had a tea special. Also really enjoyed their tomato soup. Can't wait to return. read more

I had a reservation for 4:30 pm, when I arrived I just told the waiter that I was in for a party of 2 and was promptly seated! We ordered the celebration tea, which comes with three tiers-- scones, dessert, and sandwiches, accompanied with a platter of chocolates, an iced tea, and a soup or salad. I ordered the shangri-LA tea and my bf ordered the silver needle tea, which were both delicious and came out piping hot in the tea pot. The portions are more than enough food to get you full, and the waiter even provided extra clotted cream for us when he saw we were running low. I had a great time having afternoon tea, but I would recommend coming before 5:15pm as it seems they stop seating around that time. The shop itself is very cute, with vintage decor and elegant porcelain with dainty designs. Plus there are many tables if you are looking to host a bigger group of folks. read more

No, Chado is a TEA room. But you could order some sandwiches and bring in a coffee from an establishment down the street I guess. You'll look out of place though with your coffee. lol

They do accept walk-ins or reservations, as space permits.

Yes, they have other choices.

Yes. Make sure you dress tea like because they have the most beautiful backdrops to take pics.
