Taste, quality, value. Overall 4.5/5 I want to preface by saying that I don't generally give out 5 stars easily. However, my experience with Chaatwala surely deserved it. Food (1.75/2) - Majority of what we tried, we loved. I enjoyed the Chhole stuffed kulcha, chili paneer, Dahi puri, and Vada Pav. My kids liked the milder noodles. But the Puri Bhalla Chaat was something I could skip. I could see many places for improvement but for what this place offers, it is great. It's not trying to be fancy and so it's not charging you those prices. Prices seem fair and makes the food worth it. I would come back to try more varieties of their street food along with stuffed parathas and dosa/idli. Drinks (1/1) - Fresh juices and masala soda were on point. Perfect combination with the street food indulgence. They definitely were refreshing. However, I was disappointed with the masala chai that seemed watered down and lacking masala flavor. Decor (0.75/1) - Setting could be improved. There are fairly good art works on the walls and the tables. Reminiscent of India, they even have a chalk board with menu items. However, they can definitely improve by doing something with the drinks corner which seems dull and uninviting. Service (1/1) - now this place is not a fancy dining place at all. There aren't even people bringing the food to you. You have to go up, place an order, and wait until they call your name. However, they make it really easy to order, eat, and enjoy. You go to the front, put your order in and go back to your table. But they are really fast at preparing your order and the wait is very low even when the place is packed. After you are done eating, if there are any leftovers, they have kept to go boxes and utensils for you to pack it up your self. All the food is brought to you in compostable plates so once you're done, just throw it in the trash without worrying about the impact.

The place is huge and has some play area in the back which the kids loved. That said the food was just OK! The falooda was made fresh and tasted great, so was the Vada Pav. The rest of them were hardly any good, they were doing pretty good around in the past, hope they maintain and deliver better again.

Loveeee the ambiance!! Clearly a lot of thought went into the decoration. There's plenty of seating and self service ordering. The food itself I thought was okay. None of the dishes I tried hit the same way homemade tastes but it definitely wasn't bad either! I did wish the falooda had more ice cream, the little bit it had melted so quickly

Street food around India at a no frills place in Herndon. There is no table service so you pay, pick up at the counter. The place can get crowded on the weekends. Stuffed kulcha and chole bhature are must try!

Slick spot. We had the Pani Puri and one other Delhi dish -- it's attached in the photo, I believe it's the Aloo Tikki but I might be mistaken. It was good. One dish had lot of yogurt and I liked that. The Delhi dish was multi-flavorful and it was pretty cool taste-wise. Sweet and spicy and tangy like. Alright. Only minus point was it took a long time for food. Had to stand in line for second dish and someone cut in front of me, but that's aite. It's "all good". But the wait time of half hour was a little egregious. Might've been close to rush hour so it's whatever. I'll definitely be back. Going to hang around the Herndon area in near future, so I'll likely be a semi-regular here. Looking forward to it.

Came in to cure a chaat craving and ended up ordering a lot more. When you ask for spicy, the owner delivers Masala chai with the chaat and nice nice hot and buttery pav made my evening. Will definitely be back! Can't wait to try the stuffed chole kulcha and other menu items!

You go to a restaurant and order some 10 items and everything turns out great! How likely is that? That was our experience here. Came here for the first time and liked everything we ate. Including chai, coffee, and falooda. Nice ambiance! It's self service and delivery is quick. Prices are reasonable and quantity is good. We will be coming here often.

Finally got a chance to visit the restaurant at its new location and they have maintained their quality and taste. There were quite a lot of new items added to their menu, and I tasted a couple of them today which were delicious and looking forward to try the other items soon. Definitely a must visit Indian restaurant which has amazing food,good portions,affordable prices and a warm friendly service. Authentic Indian street food with excellent options and really good atmosphere. Owner, Mr. Rao was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Go empty stomach and binge away with all time favorites like vada pav, pav bhai, chaat with a cup of chai or kafi.... Go to the time pass area and play some ping pong to burn those calories and enjoy the Kala khatta sharbat/mung halwa once you have room for more calories!

Pretty good for a chaat spot in the DMV. My parents and I were craving some street food, so my dad mentioned we should try this spot. We don't get a lot of opportunity to eat Indian street food, so it's like a treat for us. Note: the day I came the menu was not updated (per a previous photo shared). I was disheartened that they didn't have the Paneer Kati Rolls. The owner was understanding, but I do hope they bring it back! Maybe introduce the Bombay sandwich??? I'd come back for sure! Here are some of the items we got: Vada Pav- was a bit spicy for my parents, but I loved it! The vada was perfectly fried and moist! The chutney was not too liquidy, and right amount of dry garlic chutney. Each part complimented well and not overpowering at all. The Pani puri/ (Gol Gappa- For those that may come at me) was delicious. It is so easy to mess up making the pani part, and I've had BAD pani puri before. I can't remember a time when the puris actually stayed together and not break apart! Bhel- I crave this all day, every day! Just making this delightful mix is an ART people. The mamra (puffed rice), sev (fried noodles) were crunchy and not soggy! I can safely say that I demolished a significant part with no shame. Dahi Bhalla Chaat- Don't let the photo fool you- this was great too. For the unfamiliar, bhalla is just fried dough that's soaked in yogurt, mixed with the same chutneys as Bhel, and Pomegranate is used as a topping. Great to share, or just for yourself! Irani Chai- not pictured but a Mumbai staple! When the Iranis (Parsis) came to Mumbai, they created their version of Masala Chai using condensed milk. It's a great drink to have after a heavy meal.

Amazing Indian street food. Fresh and delicious! My friend recommended it and we are so glad she did! The food was amazing. We ordered the vegetarian option pictured below and thought it was amazing. Fresh fluffy bread and chickpeas in a semi spicy sauce with pickled onions and a spicy (I think it was rhubarb ) chunks. Super delicious and adorable. I will Definitely go again! The service was great and very friendly. We didn't know what to order as we were unfamiliar with the menu but were happily guided through the choices . It was a Great lunch!

Chaatwala is an eatery that offers Indian street food that's vegetarian-focused - we came here for an early lunch, and we ordered the following: +a Mixed Veg Pakoda - spiced mixed vegetable fitters; these were supposed served with a side of tamarind and mint cilantro chutney, but we only received the tamarind sauce; I'm thinking it's because we requested there to be no fresh cilantro on any of our dishes so they made the decision to not include the mint cilantro sauce; there were about 5 pieces, with the batter thick, crispy, and seasoned well +Aloo Puri - spiced potato curry served with a fried wheat bread; was not a fan of this curry, as it was super thin and had an off taste to it; the fried wheat bread was okay +Dahi Bhalla - lentil dumplings soaked in yogurt and served with mint cilantro, dates, and jaggery chutneys, garnished with crunchy boondi; I didn't know that this was a cold dish, as the menu didn't mention this; the dumplings were more like balls of dough that was super dry inside, and the sauces that they were sitting in didn't help; we didn't like this at all +Chole Bhature - spicy chickpea curry with a side of deep fried bread; the curry was okay, but I felt as if it could have been more savory and creamy; the deep fried bread that this dish was served with was super delicious and probably one of the best breads we've had! This dish also came with spiced raw onion slices +a samosa - filled with potatoes; fried; this was okay, but it did have a kick! +Masala Chai - Indian milk tea flavored with cardamom, cinnamon and spices; this was one of the worst chais; it didn't seem to have been steeped enough and it tasted super bitter and had no flavor whatsoever; we were expecting something super creamy and soothing +Badam Milk - a sweetened chilled milk flavored with almonds and saffron; this was not good; this was already pre-poured and was in the fridge, and we were just not fans of the taste - we were thinking it would taste similar to kheer, but the drink tasted kind of chemical-y Staff were welcoming and super friendly; you order up at the cashier, and they'll call out when your orders are ready for you to pick up; there are signs that state that the place is self-serve. There were a couple of items that were missing from our order, so we had to give a kind reminder. Maybe we went on an off day? We were excited to try this place out, but left pretty disappointed. I'm glad we were able to check this place out, but wouldn't return. The place seemed popular for private events, as there was some type of celebration/get-together that the restaurant was prepping up for. Amazing food. Highly recommended. The staff was wonderful. Restaurant was literally packed at 5 pm on a Friday with owner greeting many customers who appears to be regular customers. This was my first time eating here. And this is a gem of a restaurant. Large families came to the restaurant with the parents, kids and grandparents. Again a gem of a restaurant. read more

My experience here was so good! My friend and I went for dinner and not only were the servings a good portion for the price but taste was great too! I'm extremely picky w my pani puri so I was apprehensive after reading a few past reviews but don't listen to them- ITS SO AO GOOD. The owner was so sweet and interactive w his customers you can tell he really cares. We ordered three things: samosa chaat, pani puri/Gol goppe, and Papdi bhalla chaat. Highly recommend the pani puri and samosa chaat. You can skip on the papdi bhalla chaat and maybe ask only for papdi chaat bc the bhalla/vada wasn't fresh and didn't taste good in the dish. I'm excited to become a regular here but it's gonna happen! read more

Strip mall location just outside DC. The food was the BEST New Delhi cuisine we've ever had. Owner welcomed us traditionally and was also very kind. The Chaat was amazing. Chole Bhature could've had a bit more curry but still very tasty. Thanks for topping of a wonderful day! read more

I love Indian food and have been eating it for decades, but Chaatwala was an entirely new experience. The menu is comprised of lots of different forms of chaat (street food) from all over India. I hesitate to call it Indian tapas, but it's a reasonable comparison. Jay (sp?), the owner, explained all the various menu offerings and, after picking out a couple dishes ourselves, we put ourselves in his capable hands and worked our way through the menu. Every single dish was delicious. The outstanding food was enhanced by Jay's descriptions and explanations. He's a passionate ambassador. If you like Indian food but are sick of ordinary or just want to try something new, make Chaatwala your next culinary destination. read more

Newly opened Chaat place in Elden Street in Herndon. Chaat are cheap savory snacks served as street side snacks in many Asian countries. The place is located inside a shopping complex with plenty of parking . Once inside you are greeted with friendly staff. Their menu is super small and has a few chaats and couple of well know Indian delicacies. Upon recommendation from the host we ordered their chole bature and also a chat variant. The chole bature was flavorful and different considering its not fried but toasted instead. The vada pav was dry. The chaat lacked flavor and punch. Typical chats have explosion of flavors because of the endless possibilities of things you can add in them. I hope they add more chaat variants, sticking true to their name and add more value to money for their offerings. read more

The guy running the shop is a great guy... Very friendly to talk to and he will explain everything that they have on the menu. However, expect half the portion of what you're paying for. I ordered a gol gulps dish and a pav baaji dish... it was quite tasty, however it was all sauce.. hardly any vegetables in there... the fillings for the gol guppas... non existent... unfortunately I will not be going back... for the price... you should be able to get more food. read more

We ordered a variety of dishes and everything tasted great. My favorite was the aloo parata ( very fresh and authentic) and the kesar pista falooda . The North Indian thali and chole batura were pretty neat . Vibrant ambience ,good choice of songs played and the play room space kept the kids engaged . Owner personally walked up to each table and greeted the guests . Highly recommend it ! read more

Just left here. I asked the owner if the Samosa was spicey.. and while looking past me (because he completely avoided all eye contact with me) said "no, ma'am" ... well it was super spicey and I couldn't eat it. Actually everything we ordered was too spicey to eat. The moong dal halwa was burnt. Honestly I wouldn't be compelled to leave a review but the owner was so rude to me, maybe because I offended him asking if the food was spicey? Idk but I definitely won't be back nor will I recommend anyone to go here. read more

Service here was excellent! The owner takes a lot of pride in his restaurant and went out of his way to greet every customer and ask them how the food is. There is a game room to go to while you wait for your food which was a very cool touch. I celebrated my birthday here at the end of January and the owner brought out the cake my family brought for me with candles on it. He also gave us extra dessert on the house and played a "happy birthday" song on the speakers. It was a great moment and I'm so glad I celebrated at Chaatwala!!!! read more

Has to be one of the best places to have Chaat. Very authentic and very flavorful. Everything we ordered was amazing. Especially the Pani puri. The owner was super friendly and kept checking on us to make sure everything was good.He even threw in a special chat especially for us on the house. Today, was an impromptu decision to try Chaatwala at Super Club of India. Our plan was to go to Sprouts but took a little detour and it was worth it. Ordered Gol-gappa-2 orders and pav bhaji. The puri was crunchy and crisp. The filling had the right flavors, pani tasted amazing with boondi. Put it altogether and in one bite, the flavors exploded in our mouth, yummm! Then the pav bhaji, tasty, with squeeze of lime and with some sprinkled fine chopped onions, added the oomph. The pav, buttered and made crispy but yet soft. Take a piece of pav and then when topped with bhaji, you taste nice blends of spices in vegetable gravy. Nice fragrantful and flavorful! What makes the experience even better is the owner of Chaatwala, Jai. His sense of humor. We ordered the first two items and then said need another Gol-gappa. His response, "Eat the pav bhaji and when done I will get you another order of gol-gappa. Need to make sure it doesn't get too cold." Lol. Check it out! read more

I enjoy chaat / street food a lot, but it is difficult to get good chaat. This was different. I had the dahi Bhalla, and a sample of the gol gappa and they tasted authentic. I also had a stuffed Kulcha and found it very tasty. I had not had this type of stuffed Kulcha before. It is nice to find regional dishes that try to stay true to their original taste, and I hope this restaurant does well. read more

I had never had chaats before coming here. The filling for the puri is very flavorful, and there was a lentil dish that was hearty and had incredible spices. It's street food, so it's very casual. The owner was super friendly-- he came to our table and explained what everything was and advised us what to try. I'd definitely go back, multiple times read more

Incredible find, a vegetarian chaat place that we all desired for a long time. The desert menu is as awesome as their regular menu. The food is tasty unlike so many others that slap the same sauce in every dish. The ambiance is great with the Time Pass area. My parents took me here because they came before and said that it was really good street food. It was amazing! The service was amazing and the hosts were super super nice. It was a very spacious area with lots of room and the food was all vegetarian which was nice because my family is vegetarian. The vada pav was amazing; it's been a while since I've gotten it and it still tastes amazing. The host even offered us free pan at the end which was so kind! I would give this place 10/5 stars if I could. Will come back again! read more
