Specialties
Cha Community is an Asian American, immigrant, and woman-owned boba tea small business with a mission of bridging cultures and creating community. We have three shops - one in downtown Waco, one in Downtown Temple, and our newest shop on 8th St in Waco across Baylor University campus.
Our Downtown Waco and Temple shops have both boba tea and food service and our 8th St shop is a boba tea bar experience that is a collaborative shop with local Latina-owned floral boutique, Norma’s Florals.
Please note: We begin tapioca boba service at 11am at our shops as it takes about 2 hours for us to prepare and cook the boba. We open our shops earlier during weekdays/Saturdays to allow for guests to order tea and drinks without tapioca boba.
History
Established in 2018.
Cha Community is co-owned by husband-wife duo Jaja Chen and Devin Li. As Asian Americans in Waco, TX Jaja and Devin struggled to find connections with the cultural foods and drinks they grew up loving in Taiwan and China. In the midst of their struggles to find belonging, Jaja and Devin started up their small business Cha Community (formerly known as Waco Cha) with a mission of bridging cultures and creating community and the three business values of diversity, community, and courage.
Cha Community started in 2018 at the Waco Downtown Farmer’s Market as a boba tea pop-up and grew to a boba tea truck one year later. Since then, Cha Community opened their first downtown Waco shop at 1001 Franklin Ave, one additional food truck, and then a second shop in Downtown Temple at 7 N Main St.
The 8th St shop by Baylor campus is Cha’s third shop and is a boba tea bar experience in collaboration with Norma’s Florals. Cha Community opened the 8th St shop in Waco May 4, 2025.
