Once you get your table, you need to show vaccination cards to get inside. There's plenty of outdoor seating and the inside seating is a little small - mostly 2 person tables but a few larger tables in the back. The inside of the restaurant is also quite loud since everyone is sitting so close to each other. There's not much space to put bags or anything if you have them. Service was standard, nothing stood out. The menu is quite small, with mostly appetizers. There are only a few main dishes. Spicy mussels ($13) - good size to share, the flavoring kinda tastes like chorizo. Pretty fresh. Oysters ($3.75 each) - doesn't taste any different from $1 oysters elsewhere, so not worth it. Manila clams ($18) - this was really good, the sauce was nice and light. The portion size was good for me since I wasn't too hungry to begin with, but would be small for someone hungrier. Would recommending getting some bread with this, but it's $4 extra. Some crushed shells ended up in this which threw me off. Overall, pretty pricy but kinda makes sense since it's seafood. This restaurant definitely has a vibey interior, and I think it's a cool bar/restaurant type of feel. This place seems really popular because we had to wait a while, but the dining experience for that wait was average at best. The service was pretty nice too. Oysters ($22) - We wanted to try these oysters since they were super pricey for just 6 of them. However, it was a huge disappointment because it just tasted like average $1 oysters. Don't get this while you're here. Mussels ($13) - After trying oysters, this was actually really good. The mussels were both fresh and it had a special spicy chorizo taste that I found super unique to only this restaurant. Would recommend trying this. French Fries w/ Aioli ($10) - I'm a big fan of thin and crispy fries. This plate delivers. Pretty solid. Lamb Burger w/ Anchovies ($23) - The actual burger was $20, but anchovies are an extra $3. There's nothing super special about this burger, but it does taste good I guess. I do have to say the lamb was cooked well. The anchovies make it more unique, but this dish was just too salty. I think the burger itself was okay, but the side arugula was ridiculously over-seasoned. Overall, this restaurant can get pricey, but the food can have some more work. I live in the neighborhood and pass by Cervo's quite frequently. And everytime that I do, I see that the place is packed. And I always say, boy I need to check it out. Well, I finally did tonight and it was long overdue. I see the appeal. The restaurant space itself is small but not tiny. And overall very well designed. We ordered the white prawns la plancha and the swordfish conserva to start. The prawns were fresh and delicious and came with a plate of sauce that was perfect for the warm crusty bread. The swordfish reminded me a bit like fancy canned tuna. It doesn't sound appealing but it was very delicious especially with the in season tomatoes. For entrees, we got the lamb burger with anchovies as well as the fried skate wing. The burger came with a plate full of escarole which is actually needed for the saltines of the burger. The skate wing was an entire wing and reminded me of a big piece of schnitzel. It was really delicious and filling. I thought the food was simple but delicious and the pricing was very reasonable for the portions. I'd definitely come again. read more

I'm only leaving a review because I used to love this place but it's terrible now. I walked in on a Tuesday at 645 and was given an 730 out time with a half full bar . Fine. By 705 a check was dropped ( w/o the option of ordering more ) and it included a $5 up charge for the bread the server offered . My bill was $75 for less than 35 mins !! An app and two rushed drinks . I couldn't even finish the last drink w/o plates being picked up. So skip this place there are sooooo many other cooler, nicer, cheaper places to spend your money. cervo's is such a vibe! it's a cute spanish restaurant in dimes. it's pretty popular. we got a res 2 weeks ahead and sat at the bar. it's primarily shared plates. the seafood is divine - the rock shrimp, oysters, prawns, scallops all were amazing. their white negroni is very balanced and dangerously easy to drink. their wines are also all great! the staff was attentive - they had a closet for our jackets and umbrellas and never let our drinks empty. i'll go again bc there was so much more on the menu i want to try even with as much as we got read more

Everything is delicious but I don't go any more because they've crammed so many extra seats at the bar that you literally have to sit sideways to lift a fork. The hostesses have become very aggressive too. Their only concern now is to push in as many bodies in as possible, like Tokyo subway workers, and to turn the seats as quickly as possible. Even if you go early now, you're informed how soon they'll need your seat back. I don't understand the logic where the same restaurants that are allowed to double their capacity for free by taking over streets and sidewalks can also increase their seating to uncomfortable and unhealthy levels inside. If you're now stuffing more people inside than ever before, what is the health rationale for giving up public space so you can add an extra 40 seats outside? Makes me feel like a chump for all the times I came to buy things I didn't need in 2020 to help keep them going. read more

Always a charming, delicious delight. Maybe among my top-5 fries in the city. Love ordering the clams with it, DIY clams frites. Wine list is solid. The "Dimes Square" outdoor seating is a fab summer add-on to the fairly small (but lovely) indoor space-- perfect for a breezy night with all the activity of adjacent spots. Inside is great too, with the kind of scene-setting warm glowy lighting that can be hard to find. The main dishes were both a bit heavy with the salt (esp the fries which were borderline inedible due to the salt). The lamb burger was great but also freaking salty!! Clams to start were divine though - I could have drank the broth they came in. The services was also reaalllyyy slow - and I went on a Monday night. Took over an hour to get any food on the table. DO NOT GO HERE! My friend and I ate at Cervo's last night and we got violently sick from food poisoning. Our food arrived cold, we sent it back, and when they brought a new plate it was cold as well. Within a couple of hours of leaving we were both horrendously sick and it continued through the night. When I called today to report the issue all I got in response was "sorry to hear you're not feeling well". I thought this place was just OK. Definitely overhyped. The ambience was dark, cozy, and there was great music playing (the restaurant does get a bit loud though, if that's not for you). The decor was cool and we liked being able to see the chefs at work. Also, our waiter was kind & helpful in his recommendations. The cocktail options are a bit strange and not very creative, which really surprised me. I'm no vermouth or sherry expert, but if you're into that maybe this place would be more intriguing. However, the wine list was extensive and had many unique Spanish wines that were interesting. We enjoyed the Gulp 'hablo' orange wine. The food on paper sounds really delicious, but I will say alot of it just doesn't really make sense. We really struggled to find a combination of foods that sounded appetizing together. Then, we felt like everything just didn't deliver on our expectations. A lot of the food was, simply put, mushy and/or greasy. The one dish we really enjoyed was the grass-fed lamb burger. Cervo's is a five stars from me. We went last night around 8:30p and the wait was 45 minutes before we got seated at the bar. The restaurant is fairly small - it wouldn't be good for groups and it's narrow. Cervo's is in a hip neighborhood that even if there's a long wait, it'd be easy to kill time. Food, service and ambiance were excellent. The host was our server, which was interesting. He was really knowledgeable about the menu and was helpful with our indecisiveness. He was also helpful in picking out wines for us. We started with the white prawns. It's light and flavorful. I think it's easy to overcook prawns, but the chef cooked these perfectly. We next had spicy mussels, which was the item my boyfriend and I least enjoyed. It's an interesting take on mussels - they're topped with a spicy tapenade and served cold. A lot of other tables ordered this and it seems like a popular menu, just a personal least favorite. We ordered the fried fish and onion rings. Before you judge, I know, onion rings at a seafood restaurant? They were almost the star of the show. Super thin and lightly battered with a nice sauce on the side that helped cut through the fried batter. Still dreaming about it now... the fried fish was also excellent. It was crispy and perfectly cooked. The fish was paired with butter beans which was a nice pairing. For dessert, we finished off with a basque chocolate cheesecake. It was incredible... the chocolate was rich and not that sweet, almost a savory note to it, and it was crustless. The entire meal was lovely, the service was attentive and helpful, and the ambiance was cozy and comforting. I will absolutely go back again and suggest everyone to go. read more

The majority of seats seem to be at the bar with just a few small, and even fewer big tables. It's a fun place to catch up with friends or for a date. We split the shrimp dish, that it seemed every person in the restaurant ordered,and the chicories with fresh cheese. The shrimp was perfectly cooked with a slight spice to it and the chicories laid over a light and creamy cheese base that complemented the greens perfectly. This review was for a visit on Dec 7th (2-weeks late but you know). This is a fabulous date-night kind of place. Has that very intimate local-neighborhood vibe. We got there right around 5pm and was seated immediately which made things easy and smooth. Food comes out really quick. The "Louisiana White Prawns a la Plancha" and "Manila Clams with Vinho Verde" are a no brainer (I'll order anything that has Vinho Verde). Our server made a great suggestion that we should order the sourdough bread (so happy we did) because the appetizer dishes we ordered were on the saucy side, and the bread is so good for soaking up sauce. The sourdough bread alone is worth ordering, sauces or not. I especially loved the "Arugula Salad with Fried Shrimp and Basque Peppers" with cheese shavings on top. Even though I am not normally a salad ordering person per se --- this salad really hit all the right notes -- it was not dry, but also was not that "wet". The dressing had a creamy texture, but not thick like ranch. If you've ever had the walnut shrimp dish from a traditional Chinese restaurant or take out, then that's what I was reminded of with these shrimps in the salad. Totally different flavor profile though. It just felt like one of those places where you know the salad isn't going to be "just a plain salad". I wasn't too crazy about the "Croquetas with Chorizo and Tetilla Cheese" though, because they were slightly on the salty side of 'my' palette at least, but that's chorizo I guess. I think it needed something else to offset the saltiness. The "Spanish Mackeral" entree also didn't excite me. Waited until midnight when the reservations opened to book a table here on a Friday night and it was so worth it! Brought some out of town friends here for dinner and it was definitely impressive. The ambiance is very trendy and moody with a cool & helpful staff! I know the menu changes and we went a while ago but I really don't think you can go wrong. We got oysters, crispy shrimp heads and this eggplant to start. The Eggplant was absolutely amazing and my favorite but it was all great. I also got the 50/50 martini which I liked a little too much. My friends got wine and the waiter was super helpful in talking them through the options and helping pick the right bottle! We also got the fish entree which was amazing and fries which are hard to mess up. Beyond the food/drinks being amazing it's just a great vibe and good people! It's pretty hard to mess up the ratio on a classic, three-ingredient drink, but there it was. We ordered a dozen mussels and three of them had shell parts. I have never ordered a dozen oysters so poorly shucked. The Manila clams were unimpressive - they were under salted and the broth lacked flavor in general. The fries were below average. And the dip had WAY too much mayonnaise. The fried skate was delicious, and the sea bream was probably the table favorite because of the toppings; the spicy mussels were also a hit. Overall, most of the food lacked flavor, and we left a bit hungry and unsatisfied. I was looking forward to dining here for a little while, and am pretty disappointed by the food. The only thing Cervo's doesn't have going for it right now is location. If it wasn't in such a strange part of the city (no offense to the area, it just is what it is), I'm sure it would have more than two reviews at this point. It certainly deserves more attention. It's on the same block as the famed Dimes--where Canal Street ends/feeds in the East Broadway. It's absolutely worth the trek, though. Though small and unassuming, Cervo's is a seafood powerhouse. Whether you have a hankering for raw fish or something of the cooked variety, Cervo's has something you'll enjoy. I can almost guarantee it. Clean flavors and fabulously fresh ingredients consumed in close quarters with lots and lots of wine. This isn't your place if you're looking to find yourself in a food coma post-meal, but I personally don't like feeling weighed down after eating so I was happy to experience this. Cervo's is perfect for a date or a small girls dinner. Trendy, dimly lit, lots of wine. The front area is filled with covetable bar seating and a few high top tables (very lively overall) while the back is more of a traditional, sit-down vibe. The front lends itself to good energy/good service, so I recommend that. Plus, you'll be closer to the wine that way. The wine here is a serious draw. Lots of great options, a good number of them available by the glass. All wine here is Portuguese or Spanish, I believe. They'll let you try whatever you want, and pours (both tastes and full pours) are quite generous. They're eager for you to reach your highest level of enjoyment here, a vibe that's palpable here. I went with one Riesling-esque white and one sparkling white, while my friend stuck with sparkling rosé. All super delicious and refreshing, which paired perfectly with the meal. Food-wise, opt for sharing. The small plates bring a lot more to the table (counterintuitive, I guess). Fair warning--because these dishes are so light, you'll need a decent number of them to fill you up. And they ain't cheap. We managed to do okay, though--two glasses of wine each and five small plates brought us to around $120. It pained me that I'm gluten-free, because there's so much potential damage to be done with the sourdough bread here. Others have complained about them charging for bread here (I think it's lame too, for what it's worth), but it makes sense from a money-making perspective. Every single dish we ordered was either bathing in olive oil or white wine sauce, and all of that goodness was wasted because we didn't order bread. It's sad to watch them clear those plates with pools of missed opportunities still sitting there. So, if you can order bread, I'd still recommend it. Our eats, below: Squid escabeche with cucumber and tomato: A Light but still super flavorful. Nice seasoning on the squid--just enough to give it some complexity but not overpowering. The cucumber and tomato were worthy accompaniments and paired very well with the squid. My friend preferred the rings over the tentacles, but I enjoyed both equally. Depends on how important crispiness is to you. Though this was in the "Raw Bar" section, it seemed pretty cooked to me. Tuna crudo with celery and mint: A Another light, delicious starter. More delicate, thoughtful accompaniments in the celery/onions/seasoning. They let the seafood shine here, which is a serious relief. I can't stand when restaurants try to get too fancy with seafood and end up drowning the natural flavors in heavy sauces. As mentioned before, you're getting clean flavors with hardly any sauce (plenty of oil, though). Beef tartare with littleneck clams: A- A very curious preparation. It was tasty, but definitely a bit puzzling to the tastebuds. Though this certainly looked like a beef tartare preparation, the flavor of the clams overpowered the mildness of the beef. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I'm wondering if ratios were a little off. That said, still good and definitely giving them props here for risk-taking/creativity. Not an ingredient combo I would've come up with on my own. But hey, a seafood-forward restaurants needs to include seafood wherever it can, so it makes sense. Bluefish conserva with braised leeks and hazelnuts: A+ Probably the most diverse dish we had. Sorry for the redundancy, but again, flavor was on point. This dish was particularly impressive because while it was a small plate, each component was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The braised leeks were addicting and the bluefish itself was yummy too. Nice variety of hot/cold, good mix of textures too. Manila clams with garlic and vinho verde: A What you see is what you get. Teeny tiny clams and not much else. I visited Cervo's on a Wednesday evening with a friend who works in the PR space for restaurant groups. She had heard good things about the spot so recommended we pay it a visit. Unfortunately, the rave reviews we'd read and heard didn't resonate with our experience. The saving grace of our entire experience was the extremely friendly staff and cool ambience. Although the restaurant is an extremely tight fit, the open kitchen concept is super cool. The seating is extremely uncomfortable (we were seated in front of the open kitchen towards the front of the house). We had arrived with a reservation for a table and were uncertain why we weren't offered a proper sit down instead of a tight-packed high too. We didn't fight it though. The food was extremely disappointing. At the price-point, I was expecting richer flavors, slightly larger portions and just better food overall. We ordered several plates between the two of us - not a single dish was noteworthy. Just a very bland, average experience. The dessert (cake) looked fantastic but tasted horrible - one of the biggest letdowns of the evening. Unlikely I'll be paying Cervo's another visit in the near future. read more

Cute interior but the horrible service and overpriced, underportioned food is just not worth it. Food: overpriced, small portions, the lamb burger was tiny (and WAY too salty), they don't do substitutions for sides, the oysters are the smallest I've seen anywhere, the fries were super salty. I didn't have the prawns but they looked solid. Service: our server was rude to the point where we had to talk to the manager. NYC service jobs are taxing, but name-calling and eye rolling are not okay when a burger costs $25. Ambience: cute! We sat outside, but indoors looked cute when we went in. After checking previous reviews I was on the fence. Glad I opted to pull the trigger with a recommendation from reliable family members who were able to snatch a reservation at the last minute. Our party essentially tried all the recommended appetizers. Two thumbs up all around especially the white prawns. Chicken Peri Peri 5/5, Lamb Burger w Anchovies 6/5, Seabream ala planacha 5/5 a little on the spicy side so be prepared if you don't enjoy spicy food. Not hot just a little kick. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the lamb burger was so good we order two more on the fly for later. COVID era review. The restaurant is operating as a sort of gourmet deli/wine bar with a few tables outside on Dimes Square. There are oils, vinegars, wines, conservas, fresh seafood, and packaged meze. We popped by at about 3 p.m. on a beautiful Sunday and snagged an al fresco table. I ordered two sandwiches, snagging the last of the chicken cutlet, and a tuna escabeche, a baguette, containers of caponata, artichokes and olives and a half dozen oysters. This was late lunch for 3. A bottle of Albamar, a Spanish white. Everything was first rate. The tuna escabeche had a dash of heat from banana peppers, but the flavor was complex. The chicken cutlet was beautifully thin, and had extra flavor from mushrooms I believe. The caponata had been scented with orange peel and did not fail to evoke the Mediterranean, the olives had an extra peppery zing - was it Sichuan peppercorns as the feinschmecker speculated? The artichokes were well seasoned. Our wine was dry and crisp and worked well with the fresh oysters. The feinschmecker bought a second bottle for her place. Also snagged a can of white tuna for later. I would go back in a heartbeat. Hope to dine in when the nightmare is over. read more

Every bite was erupting with flavor- portions are fair but here you are going for quality not quantity. I was still very full after eating. Got the prawns, the clams, the bruschetta, and the fried tilefish. I would recommend all 4, but especially the first 3. Ask for more bread to dip in the sauce. Cervo's is a slender Iberian seafood-driven spot on the Lower-Lower East Side. You could call Cervo's a wine bar, and the ambiance certainly matches, with wood paneling, dim lighting, and a casual-yet-upscale vibe. The wine list is unapologetically short, solely Spanish and Portuguese, with a natural focus. Yes, everyone in town is slipping a little skin contact onto their menu, but what's the last place you saw that slings more orange wine than rosé? Importantly, however, the food isn't an afterthought at Cervo's. Off-beat seafood reigns supreme here, from shrimp heads with pimenton ($8) to a swordfish conserva ($14). The larger plates tend to be more traditional, like a piri-piri half chicken ($29), though even the standard-around-town lamb burger ($18) can be optionally topped with anchovies. Smaller plates can easily be bested by one, and larger plates work well between two. My boyfriend and I did a small and two larger plates, which worked perfectly. I would reserve if possible, as seating is somewhat limited and somewhat bar-heavy; day-of should be fine for weeknights, and I'd look ahead a week for weekend. We got lucky dropping by around 7 on a weekend night in September to grab window seats. Crowd was buzzing and definitely cooler than me. Subtle 70s decor. First up was a fried shrimp dish with pickled peppers; flavorful but a tiny portion. Grilled mackerel... pretty much tasted like mackerel, very simply done and served with a dollop of citrusy aoili. Skate wing ($26) was our favorite dish, though it had a sneeze-inducing kick of horseradish that we couldn't quite locate. (I also was able to try their lamb burger a couple weeks later at Oct Fest, where they had a booth and were serving seafood and sandwiches despite the downpour. The burger itself was decent; I really liked the fennel and mayo topping, and my boyfriend raved about his added anchovies. Elote wasn't something I needed to pay $8 for again, but there's festival pricing for you.) Service was great. Super helpful in picking a couple of glasses to try and I was happy with both the rose and the orange wine I had. There's that mysterious feel-good factor at work here, and the sophisticated but unfussy menu makes you feel as if you, too, could be a person who has opinions about obscure fish and more obscure vermouth. COVID-19 review: Cervo's has turned into a specialty grocery store for the winter, selling lots of delicious prepared foods, as well as fresh produce, pantry staples, and many reasonably priced bottles of natural wines. I come by every weekend to buy produce (lots of radicchio lately, plus arugula, citrus, and great pears) and try whatever is going on in their prepared food fridge. The selection rotates, but I've loved the squid salad, chicken salad, vanilla and chocolate pudding, pickled beets, fresh cheese, and the butter beans. Also am addicted to their fried breadcrumbs, which I add to literally everything. I just ran out and am urgently awaiting a restock. read more

What a great place! It was our first post Covid restrictions outing and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We liked it so much we went back a week later with my mom. Dined with my wife and three year old and munched on the lamb burger, chicken, fish, soft shell crabs, raw oysters and skate fish. It was all delicious. The Lamb burger was top three I've had in my life (get it with the anchovies) and the chicken was super moist! Set up was outdoor on Canal street and the set up was really nice with HUGE sun umbrellas for rain and sun. They have high chairs but my kid liked the three cook books they gave us to sit on. It kept her busy reading while waiting for the food. Service was super friendly and attentive and the cocktails were fun and in some instances delicately made. We'd definitely recommend this spot and will continue to support great service, food and a neighborhood spot. They really made us feel welcome and it's refreshing to see that attention when mixed with all the hipper folks dining there. Also note the menu changes quite often which is really refreshing. Love Cervo's. Have had some great meals here before, but the most recent was particularly enjoyable. We've found we prefer sticking to the smaller plates, the swordfish conserva this time was particularly delicious and the shrimp heads are always the move (funky, briny, and crunchy). Add a few glasses of vermouth or sherry to your meal and you'll feel like you're in Spain. The room is always buzzing and dimly lit -- the fun is palpable. read more

I hit up Cervo's for a Monday night dinner with my friend Katie M. while I was visiting New York. I hadn't seen her in a while, and we were well overdue for a leisurely catch-up. This was the right place for it--a charming little restaurant and wine bar with a small, intimate dining room and excellent food. We were able to make a same-day reservation for 8:15, but we ended up more or less walking in instead. We showed up around 7:30, and they were able to seat us right away. There was a narrow bar area and a tiny dining room in back, and we got a cozy corner spot in that room. Service was great. Our server gave us helpful guidance on food and drink, and took care of all our needs. I started with a spritz, which was the only thing I had here that I didn't like. I got it because it sounded light and refreshing--Campari, Aperol, and sparkling wine. It was weirdly syrupy instead, maybe just served too warm, the ice cubes already melting in the glass. I switched to wine for my second drink, enjoying a glass of txacoli, a dry white from Basque Country. It was definitely $15 for a glass from a $20 bottle (I only know this from googling), but maybe that's standard for a New York wine bar. Anyway, I wouldn't have known to buy this $20 bottle. The food was outstanding. There were a dozen dishes on the menu (not including oysters, bread, and dessert), all of them meant to be shared. Eight featured seafood in one form or another--Cervo's is mostly a seafood restaurant, taking its cues from Portuguese and coastal Spanish cuisine. We ordered four dishes for the two of us, and this was a reasonable amount of food. You can probably go three or even four per person without throwing up. It's hard to pick a favorite here, as really everything we ate was great. Louisiana white prawns a la plancha were meaty and succulent, served whole with a buttery, peppery sauce, just like barbecue shrimp in New Orleans. The squid toast with sungold tomatoes was incredible (okay, actually, this might have been my favorite), a thick slice of toast heaped with tender squid, lush tomato, and some combination of oil and spices that soaked right into everything in a wonderful way. Maine scallops were firm and silky and beautifully browned, a generous portion plated with tomatoes, onion, and salsa verde. We went with a land animal for our last dish, getting the chicken skewers. These were superb, juicy and flavorful, served with sweet onions and piri piri sauce. This was a lovely dinner, with top notch food and ambiance. Cervo's is nice enough for a night out, but also casual enough that you don't need to find an excuse to go. I'd recommend it for a date night with a significant other or a dear friend living on a different coast. read more

If you are over 30, it takes a lot to venture to the LES after dark these days. Do you really want to be the oldest person in the room? Should you have to pay to feel like you are chaperoning the prom? And don't your own children give you enough 'tude on a regular basis that you shouldn't have to deal with it from the 12 year old hostess, too? Yes, Cervo's is hipper than thou, but thankfully, they withheld the attitude, and instead provided courteous and caring service at every turn. It was fun to try some new vermouth and sherry, and to choose a Spanish wine off the list. We ordered many small plates and the piri piri chicken. We also ordered bread, which, incredibly, was "sold out." What stood out for me about every single one of the dishes we ordered is that they were MADE for bread. As in, you really needed bread to enjoy them. Fresh cheese with marinated mushrooms was dying to be sopped up with a crust of bread. Steamed clams? Of course, they need bread. Drippy chicken? Pass the bread! I was ready to run to the nearest bodega for a hot dog bun. These were lusty dishes, which was my favorite thing about them. The shrimp heads fit into that category, too, but...too many eyeballs. Was Cervo's solid enough to make me want to venture into the LES again? Probably not. read more
