I ended up on Yelp looking for assisted living facilities. I came across Arizona Senior Options and read the reviews. I wasn't really familiar with placement services but the reviews were so heartfelt, I called. I spoke with Denisa and felt like I'd gotten a thousand pound rock off my chest. Denisa was with me for every step. She walked me through questions. She followed up (she is the Queen of following up!). She took me to a really nice home and, although we saw other places, the first place was so nice, clean and pretty that I was hooked! Denisa would check in with me, check in with the assisted living folks, check in to ensure my Mom was set up for her doctor's appointments. She asked my mother her favorite ice cream when she first met her and then brought her some later. When my mother needed hospice, I called Denisa for recommendations (although by that time I was out of my mind and made the mistake of using the hospital's recommendation). Denisa was a constant. His behaviors became increasingly erratic, needing family to stay with him 24/7, even though he was in Assisted Living. 3 ER trips in 3 days, physicians at the ER were all saying "this is end of life" - but the smaller hospice couldn't support us with the services we needed - basically, keeping him comfortable, calmed, able to rest, and not so fearful. We made the call to HOV and that same day, EVERYTHING was being addressed. He went from literally trying to climb the walls, injuring himself, thinking there were killers hiding in his shower, to resting quietly. We were kept updated by the compassionate HOV team. This made everything so much easier. The stress on family during this time is unbelievable - to know your loved one is in such great care, that we don't have to be there 24/7 while juggling work, home, kids, etc. is an incredible weight lifted. I've also worked with HOV on numerous occasions for work. As a nurse, I'm confident in recommending HOV. I also needed the 8 hours of training mandated by AZ for dementia care - and HOV provided that for free to our entire staff and did a tremendous job. More importantly, I observed situations where some residents did not appear to be treated with the level of attention, respect, and compassion that this type of service requires. That raised serious concerns for me about the quality of care being provided. Reliability, transparency, and genuine care for residents should be the top priority in any assisted living environment, and I did not feel those standards were consistently met here. I strongly encourage families to ask detailed questions, visit frequently, and closely monitor the level of care if considering this facility.
