I was referred to Cerna from a wonderful nurse at the Hospital my dad had heart surgery at. I contacted them and Catalina helped talk me through the entire process, as well as always being very responsive and communicative. me. The home health care that each aid provided for my dad was safe, reliable, and extremely helpful. They assisted with anything from driving him to Dr appointments, relaying information to me, cooking healthy meals and following doctors diet restrictions. Cerna and Aptiva bill incorrectly they double bill and they are affiliated with dog walker that bills continuously 1000.00 of dollars. Mark Friedman billed twice for 750.00 x 4 and states he visited but l had other caretakers here and he or his dog walker never came by He is very dishonest and now l have to handle them in court The bank had to turn them in for elder abuse They are creepy and dishonest especially Mark Friedman and the ceo l have been a nurse for 40 years and I have never seen anything like it MaryVanDomelen read more

When my mom was going to be released from the hospital after a life-threatening sepsis infection, she needed at-home care 24 hours a day. Cerna stepped in and saved us! Catalina helped us find care and each caretaker was fabulous! They were there with her (in shifts) for about a week, helping her not only get showered and in and out of bed, but also cooking and then teaching her skills to start doing these things herself again. Cerna has come to the rescue with my grandfathers care during a very rough new years. I have so much respect for what they do since my grandfather is not an easy person to care for. They go above and beyond to make him as comfortable as possible. Catalina Elwell has done everything in her power to make sure he is taken care of. The experience with them overall have been a 10/10. The caregivers that care for him throughout the day and night shift give you a sense of ease to take a lot of the stress away. Cerna was a God-sent to our father and family during his very short battle with terminal liver cancer. Catalina was wonderful - getting in home care lined up for us at short notice upon his sudden discharge from Kaiser Sunset. We had a few care providers via Cerna on 8-hr shifts over the stretch of his time in our home. Evie, Helen, Sylvia - all very capable, knowledgeable and kind. It was an honor to have them in our home. We learned a lot about how to care for dad as his mobility and function declined. We did need to eventually hire 24-hr care for dad as his needs progressed, however we continued to use Cerna to fill the gaps when our in-home care provider would have her two days off on the weekend. Our goal was to care for our father in his last days in our home, surrounded by his favorite things and most importantly family. Cerna and Catalina made that a very real reality for us! read more

I have not had a good experience with the owner Mark and I would not recommend this company. First, he said that he would be able to find a Mandarin speaking caregiver within two weeks. It's been 3 months and he has not done so. Second, he is non-responsive to questions. I have sent him multiple texts inquiring about the status of finding my mom caregiver who speaks Mandarin and finding a caregiver whom mom likes. He has not responded to any of the four texts I have send over the course of one month. Third, when he came to my mom's home to do a home visit -- to better understand my mom's needs -- he asked if my mom's caregiver at the time would be interested in applying for a job with his company. He talked to her about this while during her work hours with my mom. read more

It is noteworthy that one is aware of the just added new "Terms and Conditions" they are adding * May NOT not have the same caregiver for shifts that are under 8 hours per day. * Failure to give 24 hours' notice for any scheduling changes or cancellations will result client being charged for the entire shift. There will not be any charges to the account if client goes into the emergency room or passes away. * Hourly rate may increase if I reduce the scheduled hours on my original agreement. . (If there added hours, does the rate go down, silly question that everybody know the answer * I will be billed for the entire scheduled shift if I send the caregiver home early. (Even if I called ahead????) * A 20% service charge will be added onto each receipt for purchases made for the client. (Huh, Cerna is looking to make additional monies??) * I will be charged $0.60 per mile when caregiver uses personal car to transport or assist client. (Cerna needs to make more $$$$$$) * 2% fee will be added to invoices 21 days past due from the dates the invoices was generated. Time and a half rates apply for the following holidays; Christmas Eve, Christmas day, New year's eve, New year's day, Easter Sunday, Fourth of July and Thanksgiving day. read more

Cerna came to my rescue back in 2020, when the world stopped because of the pandemic. My seventy-six year old mandarin Chinese-speaking mother, with a history of stroke, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, hearing issues, and the beginnings of memory issues was now being sent home to recover after spinal surgery. She needed around the clock caregiving and intensive at-home rehab. Only one word could describe how I felt: Overwhelmed. For the next several months, the people at Cerna - including the owner, Nick Payzant, and one of the founders, Marc Friedman - made sure we had competent and trustworthy coverage whenever needed. Cerna's schedulers are incredibly professional in their ability to respond at a moment's notice and follow-up on last minute requests. Moreover, Marc and Nick are extremely accommodating and diligent in their attempts to find the particular type of care needed for the client - including doing a search far and wide for months - to find my mother a Chinese speaking caregiver. Marc gave me updates whenever I asked. In the meantime, my dear, sassy mother was quite a handful. The people at Cerna pulled through for me whenever I called on them. That alone, meant everything. It was a difficult time. My X-husband was dying of Covid and my daughter could not be consoled. I arrived at his home in Irvine from Utah to help care for him on Hospice as I am a CNA. After 4 years of experience as a CNA and bringing several clients through Hospice myself, I know what to look for in the care takers that came from Cerna to take care of him. Not to mention we were highly vigilant about his comfort and care. I thought I knew some stuff, but these ladies from Cerna were the best I have ever seen. Their intuition, their anticipation, knowledge and care for his comfort could not be matched. More impressive is that these ladies from Cerna have been with the company, some of them, for years. The Cerna caregivers we've been working with are highly experienced, professional and genuinely compassionate, each one taking the time to really get to know and understand my wife's myriad needs and personality and then swiftly acting on that understanding both creatively and consistently. Cerna goes the extra mile! A Newport Beach grandma battling Alzheimer's disease and unable to fly, was driven to Seattle by the PRESIDENT of the company. Marc Friedman made the 26 hour, 1300 mile trip to get her safely to an appropriate facility near her three daughters and grandchildren. Making sure she was getting great care and surrounded by family was clearly the priority. Chose this company to care for my mother who can't walk and my father who just had hip surgery for a broken hip and was in a wheelchair as well. They FORGOT to send a caregiver out when scheduled and left my mother at home helpless until I could come to her aid. We did utilize two different caregivers from this agency and they acted like they didn't know what to do and I had to show them how to transfer my mother from wheelchair to toilet. Also the caregivers sent out were unsure of themselves and just sat in a chair doing puzzles or looking at their phone the whole time. Do NOT use this company if you care about your loved one. read more

When my mother was first with Cerna, they did everything to help her. She was a difficult case in that she was not sleeping and she was quite agitated. Then one of the senior managers swooped in and in less than 30 days, fixed the problem. By getting her to a better neurologist, he facilitated change in her medication. As a result her sleep and anxiety significantly improved. She became a functioning individual who began enjoying life again. She now attends exercise classes and is involved in other programs which Cerna helps her take part in. I do not know what I would do without the help of the Cerna staff. They are not into labels and they never say that my mother has Alzheimers. They tell me my mom is doing better or she is having a bit more difficulty. Then they come up with a game plan. That is what makes them unique. My family is happy with them and I personally am very thankful for having met Nick Payzant and his team. read more

Last Saturday I lost my husband of 42 years. I am glad that he was able to pass in his home. I used Cerna homecare and have mixed opinions and feelings about this service. While boasting of professionals from "psychologists to nurses" I received only CNA's. Some were very good and some are in the wrong job. I am also a stage 4 cancer patient so this has been the most trying experience of my life. I signed up for 24 hour care and was quoted $24.00 per hour. I spoke to my sister who advised me to confirm this hourly rate and I called and this was confirmed. Now, I am reviewing the bills and see that they honored the $24.00 rate up to 8 hours and then charged time and a half or $36.00 per hour for the last 3 hours of each 12 hour shift on each day. My sister called Laila Shanedling very upset about what appears to be a "bait and switch." Ms. Shanedling said she told me about this and perhaps she did but I do not recall hearing this. My upset is over the fact that if this was told to me she should have made sure I understood. Ms. Shanedling said I could have requested 8 hour shifts and not be charged the time and a half but I really do not remember hearing this information. If I had heard this I definitely would have requested 8 hour shifts. Consequently, I am cautioning all of those who are feeling vulnerable like I was to both scrutinize each caregiver and make sure you understand the hourly arrangement. Cerna provided no home care services for the time and amount we agreed; we did not finalize home care arrangements. Cerna continued charging my card, though they said they had stopped before 9-20-2016; charges continued to December 2016. When questioned, they replied there wasn't any paper work for what Cerna was to charge. I've asked for invoices for charges which show what services I received; no response regarding this. "Maxine," wrote Mr. Friedman wanted to speak with me. I preferred all in written correspondence, however, I returned Marc's call; I've not heard anything since. I sent them copies of emails showing charges, & a copy of email stating they had stopped charges, & the dates & amounts for unauthorized charges through December 2016. I wrote August 2, 2017, "Does Cerna owe me money?" I've not had a reply; I'm not expecting one. ~~~ UPDATE: SEPT 28, 2017 - After sending a copy of this review to Cerna, & letting them know that if I did not have a refund, credit, or paperwork to that effect, by Oct 2, I would contact the Attorney General of California, Marc Friedman called before 10:00 AM that morning! - Soon Mr. Payzant wrote that the matter was escalated to him. Again, I sent copies of charges I was, "disputing," meaning, the amount over the authorized $4,000. The "moving target," Mr. Payzant refers to, is that in addition to the $1475 over the $4,000 agreed amount, the charge made to my son's account was unauthorized for this period. I have sent copies of the unauthorized $1887.50 charges to four different people over a period of 12 months, & again to Mr. Payzant, as requested. Mr. Payzant agreed to reimburse $1887.50. I did not ask for any interest nor suggest any penalty amount be added for this time consuming business or being out this total for months. ~ BTW, both authorized & unauthorized charges (various amounts) were manually keyed. ~ We had some help from Cerna during 2015, although hospice from Tri-City, & the care paid for by my parents' health insurance were the most helpful. I have explained here what help we had in 2016 (almost zero). 2017, a home care person (not a nurse) was here a few times. ~ Mr. Payzant is simply uninformed regarding "conflicting," instructions for care. 2016, we didn't finalize home care arrangements; there wasn't any home care during 2016. One person from Cerna (who is no longer with Cerna) met my mom at one of her oncology appointments, one time. ~ I have been informed, there is not any documentation for the "care," during this period, nor any regarding the $4,000 limited proposal I was charged. So far, that is Cerna's response to what did the $4,000 cover during the specified time? I replied to Mr. Payzant: When may I expect the credit to my account or a check ($1887.50)? I will update this review when the money has cleared my account. ~~~ UPDATE OCT 26, 2017 ~~~ Cerna credited my account, Oct 13, 2017, $1887.50. I have sent an email to Marc Friedman, who assured me in an August 2017 email, that "... if we owe you money for services not rendered then we absolutely will reimburse you. We want to do what is fair for you always." I am asking if $4,000 seems fair, for two meetings (away from home) I had with someone from Cerna, and her accompanying my mother to a doctor's appointment. I don't believe there were any other services. read more
