This was such a fun family experience and we love how our ceramics turned out! Everyone was very friendly and helpful.

My piece came out amazing! August helped out with great recommendations on layering and textures. The firing really made my colors pop and it made for a great holiday gift to my boyfriend.

I went to Ceramicafe on two different occasions and enjoyed my time for both! The second time, I visited the store to buy a gift card for my best friend's birthday because I thought it would be nice to do a fun painting experience together! I was able to load a card with $40 which would pay for a bowl or plate as well as many other small trinkets. We went at nighttime about an hour and a half before closing on a rainy day. Maybe it was because of the rainy atmosphere but it was so cozy and warm inside. It was the perfect atmosphere to catch up while having our hands do something creative and expressive! It was slightly loud for a brief moment because there was a group of children in the party room celebrating someone's birthday. They were singing Christmas carols! Despite this and despite my aversion to gaggles of loud children, I still had a lovely time and look back fondly on my experience. When we were done painting our bowls, we dropped them off and they told us that they would call when they were ready for pickup! It was relatively quick, less than a week, and we were so excited when we saw how amazing the bowls turned out! We use the bowls for our dinner + movie nights.

    Axolotl mug and paint palette

My lovely daughter and I painted a cute mug at this location. The first thing I noticed was the selection. They definitely have a great selection of pottery to paint. The issue I had was the cost. For this one simple mug, it cost us $43. That means that a simple day out for the two of us, if we both wanted to paint our own mug could be upwards of $80-$100 just for two pieces. There are no prices on their site, except for "starts at $10" which is absolutely NOT a good reflection of how much the pieces will cost to create. I would suggest a bit more transparency when it comes to cost, for one. Second, all the extra materials were out. Pencil? Missing. Q-tip? Gone. All the things that you may want, aside from glaze and brushes had not been replaced, including even paper towels. My daughter and I resorted to wiping our brushes on our aprons in between colors (after rinsing, of course) because we had nowhere else to wipe them. In all, the studio is cute, the selection is good, but the prices are much too high, especially if they are going to forget to stock basics.

Mt friend recently showed me this spot and I absolutely love it! I think it's a great idea for a fun and creative time. Whether you have older kids that like to paint or you come here for a date night or girls night, it's a good time for sure. They play cool music, you just purchase your ceramic piece and they provide the paint and everything else you need. When you're done they help clean up the area and everyone who works here is very friendly. It's good to make a reservation because all the tables can fill up. We'll definitely be back.

This is a hidden gem in the Grossmont Center. A perfect place to bring your friends and have a girls night or a date or your family. The workers are extremely kind and showing you how everything works and there's just so many options the price includes all the paint and everything that you'll be using and you can also bring in food if you'd like . Like most ceramic places, it might be a little bit pricey for some however to me it was a perfect price . I would expect to spend around $30 or more per head. I had such a fun time, making my creation pictured below, and they had it ready within three days, they do let you know it might take anywhere up to a week ! If you're looking for something fun to do in San Diego, I would recommend this place

Awesome place to get crafty with exceptional service. You just pick the ceramic piece you want to paint and CeramiCafe provides all the supplies you need. About a week later you pick up your glazed masterpiece to see the final results. Highly recommend!

    Katherine K.

The ceramic options change constantly, which is nice if you don't find anything you like the first time around. Lots and lots of options too. While the price is a bit much, you don't have to pay to sit or to use the paints, so the price makes sense. I was surprised that it took 2 weeks for them to fire up my mug and have it ready. Seemed like a really long time. Would recommend this place for any type of single or group activity.

We were never bumped, but sometimes kids would run by on their way to get paint. The staff was really friendly, and I like that there's a BYOB policy. I would probably suggest going later in the evening to avoid all the birthday parties as it was pretty quiet when we came to pick up our piece near closing.

I've thrown on a wheel in the past but this was a great opportunity to refresh those days! Parking was a little difficult, there is a paid parking lot, but luckily I was able to find street parking. Very clear demo and explanations, with a small class size (I think there was 8 of us). Our instructor Cristina does the demo first and then we try it and she is there to help us if needed. Once you finish your projects you can engrave designs into your pieces so I drew a little cat face on the bottom of the bowl. Unfortunately bc it was on the bottom of the bowl where the glaze pools, it was basically hidden by the glaze :( I wish I had known beforehand, then I would've chosen a better placement for the face. If you tilt it in the right lighting you can see the cat, but it's a beautiful bowl regardless! I like that they take care of everything else after you make the pieces, they trim, glaze, and fire it for you and you just have to be patient and wait for that email to come through that your piece is ready for pick up (4-6 weeks). From the class (3/7) to getting the bowl in my hands (4/10) took a month and a few days, due to the many pieces they have to fire. They have specific days and times for piece pick-up which they list on their email. ---- Overall: a great time for beginners or people with past experience, I'm happy with my piece and it reignited a dormant passion!

While I walked away with new skills and 4 pieces that I am proud of, I found Misha's style of instruction difficult to follow and unpleasant at times. Misha began the first class by telling us that she will intervene if she notices our projects going south. However, on multiple occasions she purposefully stayed quiet when a student was having trouble and then when it was too late to save the piece, she said, "I was waiting for you to ask a question." This resulted in students having to scrap their projects without time to retry. I understand that Misha aims to strike a balance between hands-on assistance and letting students figure things out on their own, but her lack of intervention felt like punishment for not following her instructions well enough. I also found it challenging that Misha structured her classes by verbally explaining all of the tasks of the day at the beginning of class. After this intro, she did not speak much for the rest of the class. During several classes, she began to work on personal projects and did not seem approachable for questions. I would have appreciated a few more demonstrations and for instructions to be repeated throughout the class. Because this was a class intended for beginners, I expected a bit more patience and active involvement from Misha. The 5-week course was structured well and allowed students to learn the entire process making ceramics, but the style of instruction made the course harder than it had to be.

(Only took a week) In terms of inventory, they have cute Knick knack ceramics you can make or kitchenware like plates, bowls, coasters, etc. I also saw people painting canvases so you really do have a lot of options if you're looking for a fun craft day. She's only one person but quite knowledgeable about the two paints offered - acrylic and glaze. Acrylic paint can be taken home same day. They apply a clear coat finishing spray and it will dry same day but may take a few hours. Anything with this paint would not be safe to eat/drink on if you get a plate/cup. Glaze will need 3 layers and would be an additional week to 2. When you paint it, it will look a bit chalkier but with the glaze, will turn shiny. There is a $5 firing fee. I believe this is okay to eat or drink after they glaze it. You could first choose which piece you want to paint, could be a cup/plate/dish or a figure. Pricing fluctuates depending on inventory. Ceramic pieces prices range from $15.99 to $50.00. They also offer canvas painting which prices range from $15.00 to $23.00. It's perfect to just paint and let your creative side come out. We enjoyed our time here painting. We also saw a few others come in either for date time or family time. One family was clever in that they had several kids, so they had each kid paint a teacup. If you don't finish or want to come back another time, you can always leave your piece with them and return to continue painting. You will need to pay though so they have your number on file to contact you (if you are getting it glazed) and also for you to resume your painting piece there. My girlfriend who was visiting, enjoyed our time here as we caught up talking and chatting while painting our shells. She had to do hers acrylic as she had to fly back to NY the next day. We ended up staying close to closing hours, so Mckenna helped do a quick spray - put it in a box for it to dry (due to the fumes) and let her take a picture of the spray to give it another layer when she went back. I did mine with glaze and got a text message it was ready a week and two days that it was ready for pick up. Very satisfied with our visit here and may come again.
