A great way to get your hands dirty (literally) learning pottery. We signed up for the 90-minute pottery basics class since I have never done pottery in my life. The class consists of 30 min of the instructor/owner Christina showing you the ropes while you follow along and the rest of the time, you can use it to practice your newly acquired knowledge and create your masterpieces. You can sign up for the class through their website or Groupon (we got a pretty good deal for a pair of tickets). Each person would get 3 balls of clay for the whole session. The class size is small so you get a pretty focused attention from Christina and you could easily see what she's doing. She's a really good instructor; telling you the little tricks or minor adjustments that she was doing that you might not notice. If you are a total beginner like I was, I would recommend looking up some basic pottery videos prior to the class if you really want to maximize your time here. I did not do that and I forgot the in-between steps (even though the outline was written on the board) that would make your clay more malleable. But I still had a lot of fun doing it. After the class, you get to select one piece that you'd want to take home and that piece would be cooked (is this the right term?) and would be ready in a few weeks. You can also add additional pieces for a fee. I loved the experience and would love to learn more about pottery. Thank you for the great time, Christina!

I had the most amazing time at cone 6 ceramics, a few of us ladies met up for a paint and praise night, the atmosphere was so nice, worship playing in the background while we painted a bowl, Cristina was super helpful and very sweet. Overall we had a great experience will definitely be returning with more friends.

I absolutely loved attending the paint and praise night. It was so nice to be around so many Christian women doing what I love, painting and worshipping. This is such a brilliant idea and I love the space. The owner/host was so lovely. I will definitely come back for a future ceramics class.

Cristina made us believe it was possible to create pottery and then we actually did thanks to her instructions and hands on help! She demonstrated the entire process then demonstrated each step and after each step she stopped and watched or assisted each of the 8 of us in the class. By the end we all had very nice pieces!

Best date idea!!! My husband and I did a class together and it was so special! I would recommend for any couple or friend group activity!

Great intro to throwing class with David! He was very patient with us and was very attentive to each person in the class. We were able to finish 3 ceramics from the amount of clay that was provided! The studio is very big and spacious for the workshops! I'd definitely come back again! Parking is not that bad and there's free street parking next to the studio. Definitely recommend taking a ceramics class here!

Had a really fun time here today with my friends for the 90-minute beginner class. Our teacher, Jaundis, was super helpful and clear with her instructions when guiding us through each step. You get three pieces of clay for you to shape and after you create your pieces, you can pick a glaze. This has been such a fun bonding experience with my friends. Can't wait to see the finished pieces!

I came here for the first time today for my friend's bachelorette party. It was so much fun! We made flower pressed charcuterie boards. The staff were great and very accommodating. I definitely recommend taking a class here if you get a chance!

Cassandra was an amazing teacher for my beginner 5 week course. She was well versed, patient and extremely encouraging. She helped me with my confidence in throwing but also helped me adjust my mistakes so I can be better in the craft. It was a great experience for my mom and I, we're extremely excited for the part 2 class!

The space is mostly catered to kids, but we saw people of all ages crafting and chatting. On a warmer day, we probably would have sat outside as it can get really crowded inside. We were never bumped, but sometimes kids would run by on their way to get paint. My only other complaint (which is more so my fault) was that we sat at stools at a shorter table so I was hunched over for a while. I'm just old. The staff was really friendly, and I like that there's a BYOB policy. While I walked away with new skills and 4 pieces that I am proud of, I found Misha's style of instruction difficult to follow and unpleasant at times. Misha began the first class by telling us that she will intervene if she notices our projects going south. However, on multiple occasions she purposefully stayed quiet when a student was having trouble and then when it was too late to save the piece, she said, "I was waiting for you to ask a question." This resulted in students having to scrap their projects without time to retry. I understand that Misha aims to strike a balance between hands-on assistance and letting students figure things out on their own, but her lack of intervention felt like punishment for not following her instructions well enough. I also found it challenging that Misha structured her classes by verbally explaining all of the tasks of the day at the beginning of class. After this intro, she did not speak much for the rest of the class. During several classes, she began to work on personal projects and did not seem approachable for questions. I would have appreciated a few more demonstrations and for instructions to be repeated throughout the class. Because this was a class intended for beginners, I expected a bit more patience and active involvement from Misha. The 5-week course was structured well and allowed students to learn the entire process making ceramics, but the style of instruction made the course harder than it had to be.

Our instructor Josh was fantastic: super thorough with step-by-step guidance while sprinkling in just the right amount of sarcastic humor to keep things light when our clay creations started looking... questionable He made total beginners feel comfortable getting our hands dirty (literally) and embracing the chaos. So pottery is WAY harder than it looks. My husband and I quickly realized we probably won't be quitting our day jobs to become ceramic artists anytime soon But we had an absolute blast trying, filming our wobbly moments, and competing with other couples to see who comes out with the best pieces (we lost proudly). At the end of the night, you get to keep what you make (1 piece for each person) and they'll glaze and heat it up for you to pick up at a later date. The only thing you have to do is get your paint in the bottled containers. Little hands may need assistance with this or leave it to the adults to prep the paint dish. I really like the space in the Art Cafe. There is plenty of room between each table. It may be different with more customers (we were the only ones on this weekday visit). But even then, I think there is more plenty of space you don't have to worry bumping into someone. I find all ceramic cafes to be a bit pricey but this is something to do once in awhile. It was $80 per person. Which is on the pricier side, compared to the other class we took last time. I will say this class was more informative than our last class. Our instructor taught us how to start working with our clay, demonstrated how to do it, worked with us, helped us out, showed us different techniques and steps on how to form our pottery. It's was definitely more challenging this time around because I think we didn't have to do as much in our last class we did. My boyfriend said he didn't like the pace of the class and having to work with a whole class. Our last class had less people so it was more intimate and slower, as for this class it was a little bit more of a faster pace. In the end we made 2 pieces. First one was like a practice piece and the second one was when you kind of got the hang of it and the final product looked better. We were only able to take one piece home. Our instructor said she typically does 2 pieces because she teaches faster but we are only able to take one. Honestly, I didn't like my first one too much so I was okay with that but I know some other people in the class wanted to take both. After you are done you have to clean up everything and put everything away. Then you chose the color glaze you want from a choice of 4 or 5. They glaze it for you then they tell you when it's ready for pick up. We are not from SD but it's an excuse to come back down to pick up our pottery.

They apply a clear coat finishing spray and it will dry same day but may take a few hours. Anything with this paint would not be safe to eat/drink on if you get a plate/cup. Glaze will need 3 layers and would be an additional week to 2. When you paint it, it will look a bit chalkier but with the glaze, will turn shiny. There is a $5 firing fee. I believe this is okay to eat or drink after they glaze it. You could first choose which piece you want to paint, could be a cup/plate/dish or a figure. Pricing fluctuates depending on inventory. Ceramic pieces prices range from $15.99 to $50.00. They also offer canvas painting which prices range from $15.00 to $23.00. It's perfect to just paint and let your creative side come out. We enjoyed our time here painting. We also saw a few others come in either for date time or family time. One family was clever in that they had several kids, so they had each kid paint a teacup. If you don't finish or want to come back another time, you can always leave your piece with them and return to continue painting. You will need to pay though so they have your number on file to contact you (if you are getting it glazed) and also for you to resume your painting piece there. My girlfriend who was visiting, enjoyed our time here as we caught up talking and chatting while painting our shells. She had to do hers acrylic as she had to fly back to NY the next day. We ended up staying close to closing hours, so Mckenna helped do a quick spray - put it in a box for it to dry (due to the fumes) and let her take a picture of the spray to give it another layer when she went back. I did mine with glaze and got a text message it was ready a week and two days that it was ready for pick up. Very satisfied with our visit here and may come again.

I had provided photos and specific info on what I wanted yet she asked about my project. Then she suggested I would need both a public and private workshop. Finally, I asked if I could meet with someone. I arranged an 11am appointment in studio with "Kay." Several days prior, I received a message from Art Magic Studio (no name) was asked if the appointment could be moved to 12pm noon the same day. After waiting several days before I receive confirmation that I would still be meeting with Kay, I confirmed noon would be acceptable. Then the day before I was to meet, I received yet another request to change, asking if I would "be able to come between 1pm to 4pm." Erm... This was for a consult. Why am I coming in for 3 hours? The message was unclear - apparently it was an open time for me to just come in any time during those three hours. And, I guess, hope that Kay was available to see me. Sorry but no. The customer facing experience was the absolute worst (do your homework on the customer's request before you make contact), and do not presume my schedule can be moved around at random.
