When the Internet is working, the speed is fine. Customer service sucks, and they argue with you if you call them to complain about Internet. But ever since COVID and I have to work from home doing GoToMeeting, CenturyLink has been awful. The Internet goes out frequently. I can't trust it to be stable, so I have to do meetings on my wireless hotspot, which costs my company money. But I just can't trust CenturyLink to stay stable and provide me Internet when I need it. Do Not Use This Company! They set up my internet and everything was working fine - then it just stopped. When I reached out they said there was an internal error and someone turned off my internet!? We ordered internet service and installation was scheduled for this afternoon. After multiple texts and emails confirming we would be home, they did not show for the install and as we neared the end of the window, my husband called to check on their arrival and we were told they cancelled our appointment (despite multiple confirmations sent our way), offered no reason/explanation for the cancellation and said they could not reschedule until the middle of August. We need internet for work, had waited for this appointment and now have been left with no service, no apology/explanation or any attempt to make it right on their part. I'm a customer in Ridgefield near the CC Fairground. A week ago I called in a no dial tone situation. We had intermittent DT for about three weeks, but then it became solid NDT So I went through a process that might be called a 'nightmare' to simply start a trouble ticket. After being exhausted by endless robot messages to move from one choice to another I finally got a guy in Utah. I was on the phone for a half hour just to initiate the ticket. He then said it would be a week before someone would be out. It was July 21 when I initiated the ticket. Then over the course of the week I was unindated with text messages as to my 'responsibilities' to the tech when they arrived. It drove me nuts! Today was technician day. No texts, no show...!? I checked my email tonight and it said the tech that was working on our problem turned the trouble over to another tech. Say what...?! This is the company that has gone through four corporate changeovers, initially it was Pacific Northwest Bell. The Bell company worked competently and you got same day resolution. A year ago I had a line noise problem. The routine was similar. When the tech finally arrived he said he found a piece of wire across my terminals which was causing a noise problem. I talked with him a while and he said once Lumen took over they either retired or laid off half the technical force. They are working with a skeleton crew in the greater Clark County area. He was retiring, but said the company basically sucked and was being managed at the higher levels by no nothing management types who had no background in the communication business. What's interesting is now that Lumen has bought out Century Link the stock price has cratered to around $2.00 or less per share, a once mighty ute stock that always hovered in the $40 range! This sounds like a mafia scam to me where a company muscles in or pays off the previous owners then after taking over strip the assets to the core leaving a husk of a company. I'm going to make PUC (Public Utility Commission) complaint. I highly urge others to do so too. Landline service is still important a during public disaster, many computer owners etc. Cells have their place, but once they go down one will be glad to have a backup dial tone style landline for calling 911 etc. All telco central offices have their own 48 volt battery system with diesel generator backup for such, so if power is lost or some other disaster they can still provide a communication link to 911 centers. Immediately switching Internet providers as soon as my cycle is up. Been with these guys for 11 months, and I work from home and take online classes full-time (meaning I completely RELY on fast, reliable Internet speeds). I currently am at 80mega per second, and my pages are always timing out. I've called in about issues on slow speeds about 4-5 times now (around every other month if you do the math on that one) and each time wastes about an hour of my time. LITERALLY WASTES it because they never resolve anything. Reference #'s I'm given are never found. I have to re-verify my identity to each new representative I'm transferred to, which is about 3 of them each call. My bills are ridiculous. It never works! I'm the only person home! I don't have fancy amazon products. I can't use my own internet signal on my cellphone in my house. I use Netflix to check signal strength, it's either not working half the time, or in low 20's or 30's which is basically not working. With a booster. I have never had such terrible technical support ever. Ever ever. I will attempt to give a Cliff Notes version of our woes. SATURDAY: contacted support via chat to troubleshoot my dad's DSL modem, which isn't receiving an internet signal. After an hour, the chat crashed. Started over. Jumped thru the same hoops again. Chat crashed. 3rd time's a charm, right? After another hour (wash, rinse, repeat), the agent determined we needed a technician to come out. MONDAY: phone call from CenturyLink saying they want to cancel the dispatch because everything is working on their end. Me (two agents later): no way in hell, mister. TUESDAY: my dad receives a phone call from a CL technician saying he is at my dad's front door. It turns out the technician went to the house... IN ARIZONA! Yes, my dad spends winters there, but that isn't the address we gave the agent, and I even confirmed it again on the phone. So then guess what? I thought, given the history of the situation, I could quickly escalate the issue via chat. Oh silly me. Three chat agents, and three hours later, I finally got an agent to dispatch a new technician for Thursday. I again confirmed the address... emphatically in fact. THURSDAY: lo and behold, my dad gets a phone call from a technician asking where my dad is... since he is at the front door. WHERE?!! Ding ding ding... IN ARIZONA!! I kid you not. I tried contacting CL's "Issue Resolution" team via FB messenger. No reply. Nothing. Crickets and tumbleweeds. That was two days ago. It's just smoke and mirrors, people... smoke and mirrors. After two years, I can tell you: It is a blood-sucking, brain-eating vampire zombie of a company that will murder your soul and leave you for dead on the side of the road. They don't care about you. In two years of their service, I've spent an average of six hours a month on their customer service line to fix regular problems with over billing, loss of service, charges that weren't correct on my account, etc. I lost track of the moron-level mistakes that they made. This has become a regular part of my life. You will wait for over an hour to talk with a person. They will say hello and then immediately drop your call. This happens 1 out of 3 tries. They will give you the run around until you ask for their supervisor. They will put you on hold for 30 minutes, and your call will be dropped. This happens 2 out of 3 tries. They will tell you a problem is fixed on your account, only for you to discover a couple weeks later that they did nothing and you have to start all over again. This happens, on average, 1 out of 2 tries. I'm not kidding. It's absolute madness. Nothing will make you more cynical about the future of humanity than being a customer of CenturyLink. **If you are already a customer of CenturyLink** Tell them you want to stop service. Every time they overcharge you, or charge you for the months your internet was down because of their service, or charge you double for their modem, or charge you late fees that shouldn't be there, tell them you want to stop service. It is a magic golden key and is the only way they will treat you with any regard or human decency whatsoever. Tell them you'll walk away, and like an abusive partner whining "No, no, baby please," it's the only time they'll take a break from the abuse. I stopped my CenturyLink service two months ago. I made sure I was paid in full. Predicting it might be a problem for the zoo animals and toddlers they've hired to run their billing department, I made sure the representative made an extra note that I am paid in full, and no other charges are due. They are STILL sending me bills. I am STILL having to spend hours on the phone each month, just to inform them I am no longer their customer. If I don't, and if I just simply stop responding to their bogus business practices, I'm sure it will hurt my credit. CenturyLink is a zombie that wants your brains. It's an infestation of plague rats that figured out how to never die, and they just keep showing up at your dinner table, arrogantly waiting for you to serve them. Salespeople came to my door to sell their internet services. I already had Comcast and ended up switching to centurylink because it was cheaper and they promised a $150 visa gift card for switching. I never recieved the giftcard (it's been more than a year now). I called twice, 2 months apart, and both times I was told it will arrive within 30 days. Obviously that was just a script they tell people. The whole gift card thing was a total scam and appears to be a blatant lie to get people to switch. The service never reaches the advertised speeds, and the connection drops at least twice per day. Not just the WiFi signal, but the hardwired connection to my workstation constantly cuts out and I have to reset the modem each time. I've gotten in the habit of getting to all my work meetings early enough to reset the modem if needed because it's a constant issue. read more

I had an account for four years, no problems other than the occasional outing maybe once a year. Pretty good customer service, good quality internet service. I inquired about moving my service and after three hours on their crappy chat service was told I either needed to pay a $100. deposit or they wanted to run my credit to start a "new" account. ???? I've never paid late, never missed a payment, have decent credit by the way but that's not the point. When I hear the word "policy" I cringe. There does NOT seem to be ANY reputable internet providers in the Vancouver, WA area. I attempted to switch from comcast to CL. I mean comcast is SO horrible CL can only be better, right? Oh no, no, no, no! They will allow you to set up an account, take your money, & then say there was an disruption on their site & "Oops" screen says to call customer service. Customer service says I need to start all over again & wants me to give them my banking info, again! They said it may occur again but they will refund my money in 5-7 days. OK, so I should continue to give CL my banking info & let them debit me until the system "sticks"? Are you insane! The most unprofessional, ignorant group of people I've spoken with & I've spoken with people at comcast so you know they must be really freakin' bad! I had DSL from Centurylink for 5 years, no problems. Having become aware that fiber had been extended to my neighborhood, I signed up for fiber. A Centurylink technician came out and we looked at what it would take to get the fiber from the power pole on the street to my house and determined that it would have to be trenched down my driveway. Later that day my DSL was shut off. Over the next 10 days I got no follow up from Centurylink. They shut off my internet on the anticipation that I would be connected to fiber and then did NOTHING beyond that first technician visit to either get me hooked up to fiber or else to reconnect me to DSL. My calls to their Customer Care department gave me the impression that they are a herd of chickens with their heads cut off. One guy said Centurylink had scheduled a contractor to come by the next morning to assess the hookup, and that I was first on the schedule for that day. After no one showed up I called Centurylink again and they told me there was no record of any contractor visit scheduled. I checked into what Comcast had to offer and they had a great double play internet/voice offering that was cheaper than I had been paying for DSL/voice from Centurylink but about 50 meg instead of 7 meg bandwidth. I signed up. It has been fine. Maybe Centurylink will eventually get its act together but who knows how many years that will be? read more

Abysmal service! I've had two technicians out, the first to install and then 2 days later to try to resolve extraordinarily slow WiFi. The last technician couldn't get it running up to the 100 mbps download speed I signed up for, I was getting 20 mbps instead, so I asked him to take the equipment because I wanted to discontinue service. He refused to do so. Today, I'm unable get to a return label to send back the equipment. My printer isn't working so I was told I'd have to pay for the return. This is after I've wasted two days trying to resolve an issue that is their problem. After threatening to contact any authority I can think of to complain, they agreed to send a return label, but she said there is only a 50/50 chance that I'll receive it. Today, 07 01 2021, I tried to set up Internet and phone service with Century Link. I spent about 30 minutes on the phone providing needed information. The first agent took some of the information. I could easily understand her. For some reason a second agent became a part of it. I couldn't understand her at all. Both were based in India. The first agent had to keep translating. This made no sense to me. Finally finished process. They needed to verify credit. Mine is locked. We had to pause the process until I unlocked it. Agent said I could call back and we could continue after I unlocked it. I unlocked it and called back only to find that there was no record of the original call. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Literally it could NOT be worse! First of all, I have had issues with billing charges FOUR different times with this company in the past year, but things had always gotten straightened out in the end, even if it was a pain in the ass and a waste of my time. However, today's interaction with them made my decision an easy one: CANCEL my service and go without internet because Centurylink absolutely SUCKS. They are a bunch of moronic, lying scammers. I signed up for a service plan that was a 1-year contract with a 5-year price lock at $40/month - meaning that I can cancel after my year contract is over or keep my service at the same price for up to 4 years after that. Well one year later, my contract was up and the auto-payment doubled from $40/month to $80/month. Not to mention I didn't get any sort of notification that this was going to take place, I only noticed when I saw the charge on my bank account! The only notification that I received was my regular e-statement that is sent each month and it had a larger balance due than usual (I don't check these invoices because my price is supposedly "locked in"). While reviewing my bank statements I noticed Centurylink charged me double what they usually do so I spent an hour going back and forth with their "customer service" who indicated that my locked in price was actually $79 ($65 base service charge plus $10 modem rental plus $4 "recovery fee"). Supposedly I had been receiving a promotional 1-year discount which reduced it to about $40, however now that the discount is expired my normal locked in price of $80 is in effect. WTF! They then offered me a new "promotional price" of $40 base plus $10 modem rental that supposedly never expires. I told them fine I would return their rental modem and purchase my own in order to bring my monthly cost back down to $40 and I would go ahead and keep their service as long as they agree to honor my $40 price this month (which isn't even over by the way) and refund me the extra that I was charged but they won't do it. They want to keep the $80 price at a prorated amount through today and then prorate the $40 monthly charge for the remainder of this month which will equate to about $65 total. I don't think so - I'm DONE for the simple fact that they're not willing to work with their loyal, paying customers and refund an overcharge of about $25 that should have never been made in the first place!!! read more

If we could give negative stars we would. Ordered service hook up in an RV park and were told we didn't have to be present to get hooked up. Got home, got the modem from the office and after following all directions it would say connected but wasn't. 1st call to customer service we are told it would be two weeks before anyone could come out and figure out what was wrong. Then three calls to tech service and really long hold times we figure out with a person in the rv park that the person who came out to drop the box off didn't even install the connection hardware needed at the rv site. Even though the mistake was on the company they still won't make any effort to get someone out to properly hook us up. The last customer service rep at least acted sorry. So I'm sure they could care less but we're hoping to find a different service. read more

Centurylink is the only internet option I have where we live and the max speed available is 5 Mbps. The performance sucks and the customer service isn't great. The service glitches out and shuts off frequently. I don't believe we are achieving this speed on a regular basis because we can't stream movies. Over the last 12 months, I have been sent 3 separate refurbished modems and none of them have worked for any length of time. On my last technical support call, I was advised that my original modem was still under warranty and I could just go to a local Centurylink store and receive a new modem. Would have been nice to know that initially and possibly have skipped the frustration with the 3 refurbished options that didn't work. read more

What a terrible experience! I was trying to help a friend, who is blind, access a federal low-income program for which CenturyLink is the only local provider. We mailed in the materials three times, and each time got them back with some very minor complaint--entering "n/a" rather than "no" when the question truly wasn't applicable, for instance. It was suggested we visit the local office on Broadway in Vancouver for assistance. I guided my friend on foot the several blocks to the address listed on the website, only to find that the office was permanently closed--not moved, closed! We just mailed for the fourth time, but our expectations are low. I have never before encountered such terrible customer service. read more

I have confirmations numbers for discounts and promotions (because they screwed up my billing) from two phone conversations with CenturyLink in the past 6 months. CenturyLink continues to overcharge me even when I've provided them with information from these previous calls and charged me late fees while I attempted to get them to correct their mistakes. Their customer service is "NO CUSTOMER SERVICE". They are like robots coming back with the same response every single time I ask for corrections to my account. The internet is very slow the past several days and over the past two years I've used their service it is intermittently slow and frequently disconnects. They blame it on my computer and don't take any ownership. Terrible company. I'm going back to Comcast. The modem I have been paying for every month on my bill. Told me a tech would be here to replace it by Wednesday. No show. Called just now and they have no note of it being scheduled.
