Worst internet service ever. Lags to upload or download. Lags to stream. Signed 2 year contract after being told the price would be significantly less if i also had paperless billing. Lies. Every phone call is a mission to get what i need before they hangup on me or before i get put on hold for 15 minutes at a time. Then as soon as the business day ends and i can't call in the service crashes. Worst. Internet. Service. Ever. Thinking of getting a plan through a cell carrier. read more

I was really happy with Centurylink for 20 years until today. I spoke with a lady named Rosemary in the Finance Dept and she gave me a lecture on how to behave. I was calling to right an error that cost me $10 and she made me swear. I regret it but I have decided they will not get my business anymore. read more

terrible service agreed to 98 a month bundle for internet and tv first months bill was 118 because installation fees sure ok. next month was 132 and the month after that was 150. when calling century link to discuss the bill issues they said that direct tv is in charge of your billing we are not. so i call direct tv and they tell me the opposite that they are not in charge and that century link is... it is a endless loop of that without getting any resolution. i have been hung up on by both sides just trying to correct my bill... both of these companys have no care for their customers and DO NOT LISTEN! i will be cancelling their services!!!!!!!! just a side note when i signed up for their services there was 100's of other reviews stating the same problems that i am having with this company... please don't be like me and ignore the reviews... This is the truth! find another service! read more

I am sad to read all these bad reviews, because the tech that came out yesterday to help me, went above and beyond to make sure he can fix the problem. I spoke to customer service on Sunday that I needed someone to come out, because my TV kept freezing. I told her, I would not be home until 5 pm on Monday, I was at work. She said that she put that in the notes but could not guarantee it, since my window was from 2:30 to 6:30. Well, Adam made sure that he was in my area at 5 and was at my house at 5:15 and took care of the problem. I really appreciated that. I am very happy with Century Link :) read more

WORST CUTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!!!! They deserve -0 stars. They are helpless, read from a script and don't give a shit about what you say. They should be out of business. Do NOT use them if you have a choice. ANYONE is better then century link. And their internet sucks, it is super slow! read more

OMG, the Customer Service people are rude and insulting. They talk over you when you are speaking. Their comments drip with sarcasm. Then, when one tried to transfer me to another department and, thinking she had me off the line, proceeded to mock my manner of speaking to the other department person. After listening for a few seconds I said "You know I can hear you." at which point I was cut off from the conversation. When the rep came back on the line I asked her why is she so unprofessional and she denied doing what she did. Are you gonna believe me or your own damn lyin' ears? Wow!!! read more

I gave it one star because that is as low as it goes. The billing department seems to be operating from some period in the last Century. They fail to fulfill their promises. Their Prism "cable" service evidently relies on satellite dishes located somewhere in the Denver area. It is OK as long as there are no blizzards. Once this contract period is up I'm gone. Already talked to my neighbors who have competing services from Cox at lesser cost. read more

DO NOT FALL FOR CENTURY LINKS LOW PRICES. WORST INTERNET PROVIDER OUT THERE. I am so fed up with this internet service. If I were not moving out of my house this summer, I would definitely cancel my service with this company. I just tried calling customer service to get my bill and automatic bill pay figured out and after being on hold, transferred, and on hold again, once I finally got to talk to a person, I was disconnected. This has happened to me before and it seems as though every time I call to get assistance, I hang up feeling more frustrated and confused than I was before I called. There should be some degree of information sharing between all different customer service representatives and different departments within century link. Every time I call and get transferred to a different person, I need to give the new person all the same exact information that I just explained to the previous customer service representative. I have also tried multiple times to get my bill set up to automatic bill pay, but every time, it never seems to work or go through, so here I am, back where I started...This has caused my bill to be late multiple times, which in return causes me to pay late fees for no reason other than this business's own mistakes and miscommunications. read more

Preface: CenturyLink service and reliability is so horrible that this is the first time in my 50+ years that I have ever taken the time to write a review! About three years ago, I did away with my landline phone altogether. After all, who needs a landline when one has a mobile? As it turns out, I landed a great home-based CS job, which, for security reasons, requires a hard-wired, landline phone and Internet connection. I was debating between Century Link and Cox to be my service provider, and I opted for CenturyLink. Big mistake! Please bear in mind that schedule adherence for my job and reliability are very important! Within the space of just three short months, my phone line has gone down four times, requiring a serviceman to come out three of those times! The first time, it was a defective "card" at the call box; the final time, defective wiring. In other words, the first repairman did not notice the defective wiring when he repaired the defective card. In fact, repairman #3 actually told me that they don't have the best employees at CenturyLink! I just got off the phone with a CenturyLink agent to cancel my service, and she informed me that there would be a $160 early termination fee for the Internet! I had no knowledge whatsoever there was a contract, no mention was ever made, nor did I see it anywhere in writing! When I asked to speak to a supervisor about this, one was not available! Stay away from CenturyLink like the plague! read more

I've had their internet service for 2 1/2 years and have had nonstop problems. I live in Phoenix. There should be no excuse for a lack of premium speeds in such a large city. My Facebook videos constantly buffer, unless I call in weekly or even daily for them to refresh the channel my modem has switched to. Their tech support is ridiculously inept and can only understand what is on their checklist. They're all rude, takes HOURS to correct any issues, and they cost way too much for what you get. Save yourself the aggravation and go with a different internet provider! read more

This company is absolutely ridiculous. I have had issues ever since starting my service with them in January. Every month I spend at least 2 hours on the phone with them dealing with the billing. I was quoted a certain rate upon accepting service with them and was being billed for a higher rate. I also was told the router I had would be perfectly compatible which is the reason I went with them in the first place. After getting it set up and having no service, I spoke with several of their employees who kept trying to put the problem off to others and then finally was told my modem was not compatible. I then had to purchase theirs which I couldn't get installed for another week. When I got my bill I was charged for 3 modems and shipping and handling even though it was delivered and installed by a tech. I only have internet through them and my bill was $500 that month!! Thank goodness the auto-draft wasn't set up yet!!! I continue to be told incorrect information and billed higher amounts than quoted and I am 6 months in. Not once have I had a correct bill. This company is a joke and a headache. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY WITH THEM! read more

worst customer service possible. fraud add. they will tell 29.99 per month. and once the bill will start to come you will see $60, $80, $90 and all other hidden fees and taxes. they are not transparent at all! read more

Internet service is horrible! I just finished getting off the phone with their service department. I attempted to explain that I am moving in with my sister prior to purchasing my new home and needed to stop service for a few months. They are charging me a cancel fee of $200.00. They would not change to their "vacation option" because I will not be on VACATION. Well duh. I am moving! I would never recommend CenturyLink. What a waste. read more

This is the worst internet service since dial up. Lots of promise of direct unshared internet line and faster service is all a lie. As soon as my year is up I'm back to Cox. Century Link workers came to our door, soliciting for Century Link. They told us we would get a 30 day free trial, and if we didn't like the service, we could return the motem and not be charged. For the love of God, I tried everything and the motem did not work. I called the number the solicitors gave us. The number did not exist. I called the questions number on the website and it said the number was not in service. I called tech support and some 15 year old girl just kept asking me if I had an outlet and a DSL connector and when I replied yes, she just said, "Okay, anything else?" It still did not work, still no internet. Remind you, this was five days after they had come to my door. We returned the motem the next day, and that was supposed to be it. No internet, no installation, returned to motem. Supposed to be no charge. Then we get a call from a snarky little girl telling us we owe them $85. I'm sorry, for what? No motem, no internet, no installation,no service. "But we recieved no cancellation fees from you." She says with a snort and what sounded like an obvious smirk. Oh, right, the three calls I made, two of which had numbers that did not exist, did not count as my attempt to cancel. She practically laughed at us, saying that they recieved no call to cancel the "service" we had been receiving. Chastising us, she said "We can keep going in circles all day. You didn't call us to terminate. We have no record. You owe us $85". Yes, you received no call because there was no number to call. We could here them snickering behind the phone. Yes, more than one. Couldn't tell if they were chortling at their successful scam, or our frustration at their scam. In summary: DO NOT TAKE OFFERS FROM CENTURY LINK SOLICITORS, DO NOT CHOOSE CENTURY LINK FOR INTERNET. IT IS ONE GIANT SCAM. read more

It's a shame you can't rate lower than one star! This company is without a doubt the worst company for internet and phone service. Customer service is almost non existent. I was a customer for many, many years. When I switched to High Speed internet the service got really bad. It went down at least once every 20 days for 1 to 3 days. I had repair on speed dial. The service techs knew my address by heart. I had enough after the last breakdown where I couldn't get a repair tech out for over 4 days. I switched my service provider. read more

HATE this company!!! We were a couple of days late paying the bill because we were out of town and they disconnected our service. They said it would take 2-24 hours to turn back on?!? Called today to start my internet, only using this company because my apartment complex has a contract with them, and they said they would get my internet started. I asked to do self install and they said no problem. I agreed to 40mb for $29.95 and was like that's not bad. They said it was an additional $9.99 a month to lease the modem even tho I already have one of their modems. They put me on hold for 10 min then another guy got in the call with the original guy I was talking to. The first guy was really nice the next guy I could barely understand anything he was saying and he then told me that I couldn't do self install and that they have to send a technician out and that I would have to pay $30 for that. I was starting to get pissed but hey I will have internet. So I asked how soon they could come out and start my service and he said the soonest they could be out was in 6 days. I understand that it is the holidays but this is bs. My parents have CL and it is really slow I am hoping that mine is not that bad and they better not charge me for the week of service that I don't have service. I will never use this company again they suck at customer service I have never had a problem with Cox communications and wish I could use them. read more

I've been a customer with centurylink for two years and I waist every month hours calling them to correct every single bill I receive from them. Unfortunately its the only option I have in my area and luckily im moving to another city soon so I'll disconnect this crappy service immediately. NOT RECOMMMENDED at all, if you want headache in your life get centurylink crap, and every single month you'll get a different amount and it varies from $40-200, and you'll spend long hours every month calling them. read more

If I could give Century Link a lower score I would. How is it I receive a bill every month however when I call them they cannot locate me by my account number, phone number, name, address, last 4 of SSN or anything else! I have asked them repeatedly to correct their records - never happens! Customer Service reads from a script and asks you the questions you already answered, can they hire someone with at least 1 working brain cell? Only after 20 minutes of verifying who I am, even though they have no record of me, I get "How can I help you?" I explain what I need and suddenly, "Oh, I am so sorry, our systems are down, I'll have to call you back" Are you kidding me!!!!! Then when they call back, yes, they actually called me back, told me they cannot locate me and have to do further investigating to find my account. How is this possible. I told the rep, I have my account pulled up online - what more info will help you - nothing as the info is not reflecting in their system. Their internet service is horrible - I have the highest I can get in my area and it cuts in and out consistently, the box just shuts itself off for no reason and I have to go through the run around all over again for them to find me in their system. Everything is correct in my account settings online. I really wish Comcast was in my area!!!!!! read more

Don't EVER sign up with Centurylink. When I signed up 3 years ago, it was good for the first year. Every few months since my bill changes. This month it was over 100% higher. I emailed them and was told my promotions fell off again even though I called them back in April. It took from April until July to straighten that out and then August was the first correct bill. Now my Sept bill is over double the amount. I called the retention dept and was disconnected after 30 min. They didn't call back. The second time I was on the phone with a guy who said my promotions changed in Aug. so the Sept bill won't show my discounts. Are you kidding? So he says he will give me $90 credit and my Oct bill should be less. Of course they quoted me $100 back in April and now it will be $120. Or so he says. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I would never go with CL if I had to start over. He also says I have a 2 year contract, which I never signed up for. I've been on month to month since the first year. PLEASE DON'T USE THEM!!!!!! read more

These guys are really really bad. I cancelled them before my one month trial period was up and they still charged me the early termination fee. Called them to discuss, the first person could not find my account and transferred me to the "dept that deals with legacy accounts." His reasoning was that if he could not locate my account then it must be a legacy account. It turns out I was transferred to the new service dept and the guy rudely told me that I should call the same number I had been transferred from and hang up on me. Since I had no choice ($220 early termination fee is too much for me to just let go), I dialed the number again and got someone different who was willing to help. She put me on hold for 15 minutes and I found out why after she took me off hold. She told me she had been transferred from dept to dept and none of them wanted to deal with my issue. She was frustrated and she works for them!! She was about to hand me off to someone else and the person hang up on her when she was doing the handover introduction!! She had to escalate it to a manager without me asking. An hour later, she was able to find someone to take off the charge. Now I have to wait and see if I get a new bill with the charge removed. read more

oh my god, think of a comedy skit that parodies the worse customer service imaginable, like so bad it's comical, like you think to yourself there's no way a company could really be this crappy, that would just flat out lie to their customers over and over and over again, no way a company could really be so crappy to their customers and not give a crap about it, to the point that you'd rather just change your life and go without cable or internet, it's that bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

CenturyLink - The Best $200 You'll Ever Spend. We switched from Cox (80Mbps) to CenturyLink (40Mbps) after we found out that it would only be 1/3 of the price. On the first day of our service it didn't work at all, so we called it in and after an hour debating with the Rep she called in a tech who would be at my house the next day to fix it. The next day the tech got there and after about 13 seconds he plugged in connection that the previous tech "must have forgot about", and ***BOOM** blazing fast reliable 40Mbps dsl... right? Wrong, we got 40, 20, 5, 1, 0, 5, 40, 30, 5, 0, 0, 20. You can't even watch YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon TV at 720p without buffering. Fun Fact: You only need 5Mbps to stream video at 1080p. So I call up CenturyLink and they blame it on WiFi, except I'm directly connected to the Modem on the same CAT5e cable I was using with Cox. Nothing they can do about it right so I stick to 480p and problem solved I guess right. Now my wife and I both work and go to school online so we don't really have time to stream video anyway so it's not the end of the world, or at least that's what I thought. My wife was 15 minutes into a 3 hour online FINAL for her communication class when the internet goes out for 15 seconds. Since the internet went out the "integrity" of her test was compromised and she got credit for only what she completed in the first 15 minutes. CenturyLink cost us an entire letter grade. Needless to say we called to cancel and they threw the "$200 cancellation fee" they never told us about at us. Best $200 I've ever spent! read more

This company is horrible and so is their customer service. I had been a long time internet customer and was convinced to add prism tv which was supposed to save me money due to bundling services. I was extremely misled by not being informed of the start of fees due to adding the tv and when I called to complain about my first months bill being twice as much as I was promised it was pretty much oh well sorry we can split the amount into payments... Umm ok still feeling disgusted I went ahead and paid off the costs in full only to turn around and have another over the top amount added back to my account the same day and was told that it was because I have 6 tv's smh umm mind you that I was promised discounts for this very reason! I could have stayed with my previous provider for much cheaper! Overall I was told to expect a monthly bill of around $130 only to be charged $250 or so which is a MAJOR difference!!!! Each time you call you get a different lie from each rep and talk to like crap as if I should have known what my bill would be! Excuse me for expecting what was promised!!! This was a huge mistake and contract or not they can F off cause I'm going back to Dish!!! This should be illegal to treat consumers in this manner read more

Normally I do not like to listen to negative reviews on the internet but in this case I should have. Everything negative I have read I have experienced. Long waits for phone calls, A representative has even forgotten us after we were on hold for over 30 minutes and had to call back and wait another 30 minutes just to our issue not be resolved. Cable signal drops out sometimes and the weekend of the Game of Thrones premier they cancelled the free HBO almost a half a day early (you can check this on the internet). We decided to let go of cable because we steam all our shows now anyway. We did not want to part ways 100% instead we just wanted them to provide internet service. It took over a month for them to cancel our cable and phone and when they did they cancelled everything including the internet. So after another week of being on hold with their customer service we still are without internet which is beginning to affect us professionally and is causing us to go over in our data with our cell phone service. This company has become too expensive for what they are worth. Verizon may be more expensive but at least I wont have to worry about my service. read more

I have been trying and trying to disconnect and cancel my CenturyLink account and service for 8 months now and every time I call Centurylink to get my account disconnected it says to call back during normal business hours. This happens even when I call at 3:00 PM on a Thursday (today) and the stated business hours are 9:00AM to 6:00PM Monday through Friday. I googled the number thinking maybe the one on my bill is just a bad number. During that conversation, they stated that my account belongs to a different branch of Centurylink and they gave me a 1800 number to call 18002441111. When I called that number I got the same answering machine that said to call back during normal business hours exactly like before (again at 3:30PM this time on a Thursday)!! I finally resorted to their online chat service so there would be a record of our conversation. The end result was after an hour chatting with them and several transfers of the chat conversation, the chat session ended abruptly while the "agent" was "looking up my account". I'm SOO Frustrated!!!! It's been 8 months of $105 per month!!! It looks like I'm going to have to find a good lawyer because I can't stop them from stealing my money directly out of my account!!! read more

We have called CenturyLink for 3 months straight complaining about the charges on our bill. Very inconsistent every month is a different charge and we only have internet thru them. Couple things to be aware #1 read every single word on your bill cause they will put you in a contract without your consent or knowledge. They simply state on the bill that you have 30 days to decline the 12 month contract, if they don't hear from you, well your done Boom in a contract. This happened to me because I called with intentions to cancel service, at the time I had a home phone and did cancel that. They of course sent me to retention where we worked it out that I would keep just my internet but I STRESSED to them I don't want to be in a contract cause I want to be able to decide if I want the service or not. The next two months they screw up the bill and I call each time to go over it with them spend like 1 to 2 hours each time talking with those people. This is when I say you know what just cancel it and they then say Maam your in a 12 month contract, I about flipped my Lid. #2 Just so you know if you rent the modem, you may want to consider just purchasing your own modem. 10 dollars month for several years can get costly. I have been with them for 5 years, you would think I would own their modem by now. Not to mention I STRESSED how much I did not want a contract and yet they never mention that I would have 30 days to decline via small print in the bill. Who even reads ever damn line of their lengthy bill. I declined from the get go so when does the damn clock start. To me they are dishonest and I do not recommend them. read more

This would be a no star if that was an option. I was signed up for paperless billing when I first signed up with Centurylink. So I faithfully sent in my payment automatically from my checking account. For years. I have been a customer since 2013. Today I get notice that I am arrears by almost $200. Turns out I was on a 'promotion' which ran out in Nov 2016. Now this would be ok except that I NEVER received any billing from these bozos and after 2 hours on the phone they are saying it's my fault and I owe the money. end of discussion. I was not allowed to talk to anyone beyond the supervisor on the floor. This is clearly in their ball court and they clearly messed up but they put the onus onto me. The one person I was talking with said it was my responsibility to notify them about not receiving a bill. It never even entered my world because I am paying it faithfully every month. I am completely unappreciative. read more

We switched to take advantage of a good deal for internet-only services (switching from cox). Internet connection was spotty and slightly worse than cox and we were supposedly getting faster internet. We looked into this and tested how fast our internet actually was and other specs my partner checked and it wasn't living up to our expectations nor what we were promised with our package. We called to ask tech support why and were treated rudely and so poorly we decided to cancel (within a week). Tech support was uneducated in CenturyLink and its technology. They could not understand our problems even with supporting data. (Partner is in tech support and has worked similar jobs so we know what the issue is). Months later after we had cancelled everything, returned the modem a few days after cancelling, we get a bill for an "unreturned modem"! This bill was over $100.00. It had been months without notice or bills until late August (cancelled in early June). We had no record of receipt for returning it either. The guy asked us the account holder's name then said we were good to go and that's what we did. Now months later this century link store has no record of this modem and we are being unfairly charged. Would rather go without internet, tv, and telephone than ever have century link again. Real rating: 0 stars read more

I would give Centurylink a negative rating if at all possible. Completely misleading business practices that should be illegal if they are not already. Unfortunately, Centurylink is one of the big gorillas in the communications business so I doubt they will get more than a slap on the wrist for such practices if anything. I purchased PRSM and internet service for 1 year. Initially I was told by the sales department that they had a fiber optic internet connection to find out it hasn't been fully rolled out so instead I ended up with much slower DSL. When you initially sign up they give you all sorts of discounts that end half way through your contract such that my bill actually doubled during the last six months. If you call customer service, they generally act like they are doing you a favor by answering the phone. To top things off, you cannot cancel your services immediately as you can with other service providers and end up charged for services you no longer want or need because their ticketing system takes a few business days to process cancellations (how convenient is that for them...). read more

The day I signed up for services I called to make sure everything went through without any problems. John with a heavy middle eastern accent signed me up for another account and told me I would not get the promotions but that I needed to pay for services and call customer support to be reimbursed in order to get the promotional pricing for internet. He then signed me up for not only another account entirely but also services I did not even know about. Not approved. I then received two modem/routers, I called, the man said send it back. I had to find a UPS store somewhere in order to drop it off because CL does not pay for the pick up fees. Inconvenient. Then I got two "order confirmations" in the mail. I called, spoke to someone with a heavy middle-eastern accent who did NOTHING for me but say he could send me to the billing dept or the services dept to cancel one of the services. He ONLY tried to sell me cable. Not OK. Then two gentleman came to my door promoting CL I'm assuming. I explained the entire situation, they took down my number and account numbers and said they'd call me the next day. They never called. I received my first bill, it was for the wrong services, not what my total was supposed to be. I called AGAIN, spoke with a very helpful lady named Kendall. AGAIN I explained everything, she provided me with a confirmation number for the cancellation of the incorrect services/bill and explained to me what would happen next. She is the ONLY good thing this company has provided me in terms of customer service. I don't know why it is so difficult to speak with someone who can fix a mistake like this. STOP pushing cable on people who DO NOT want it and take care of customers when they have these concerns!!! read more

For three straight months, March, April, and May, I called customer service to complain about constantly rising rates. Each month, the rep would promise credits and changes (that would eventually expire, of course) that would lower my bill by $40 a month. I would get confirmation numbers and names which i would share on the next call. Each time, they would say yes I see that and apologize. Each month, my bill has come with no changes, exactly the same as the month before. They are either lying or incompetent, hard to tell which after three times. Twice, it was the "retention specialist" department I talked to. I laid all this out in an email complaint and received a reply, call the retention specialist because I can't help you. Their customer service is a joke and I'll be switching providers. I feel like an idiot for not doing it sooner, but the promises seemed good. Just never delivered on any of them. read more

i have never taken the time to write a review but i hate centurylink with a passion!! my bill has been incorrect every month for 11 months straight!!! im so tired of hering "welcome to centurylink"... the dsl service is just as garbage as their customer service! they come off as the most uneducated ,lazy, inconsiderate mobile park, meth smoking a**holes! the speed you pay for is not even a guaranteed speed, its based upon what is available in your area. they had multiple accounts in my name which means multiple bills i had to have situated and "credited" to my account, which was no help! i had auto pay set up to save a few bucks and they managed to removed my card twice with no one asking/ nor telling them to do so which guess what? increases the bill. now lets say you decide to re-sign for auto pay, the "discount" wont appear till next pay period. overall no stars! horrible service! and a monopoly! i cant have any other provider in my area of tempe, arizona besides good ol centurylink! fml!! read more

I have had century link since they bought Qwest out. They are liars. They tell you they can provide services they cannot provide and will even charge you for these services and not deliver! Nothing you can do about it at the corporation commission unless it pertains to your land line service (which usually works). They bought a pig in a poke. Their idea of fixing the phone box is putting a plastic bag over it!!! Well it sat out in the rain for 20 years, (I have photographic evidence of that) I don't think a plastic bag is gonna make a difference at this point. Apparently others feel the same way, as it got a Smiley face drawn on it and a note saying: "fixed?" Ha ha! Their own professional techs who come out have ALL (AT LEAST 5 OF THEM!) said that they shouldn't offer 5MBPS service here , but should only offer us 3mbps service with a 2mb overhead. We have also been told by Century Link personnel, that there is no way in the next 20 years will they upgrade our service to bring our neighborhood in Surprise, AZ into the 21st century. NO OTHER LANDLINE, CABLE, OR DSL SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE IN OUR PART OF SURPRISE, AZ. OH, AND WE PAY OVER 100$ A MONTH FOR THIS INFERIOR SERVICE TOO. JUST FOR A LAND LINE AND INTERNET 5MBPS SERVICE!
