The company's customer service is terrible. Internet went out Sunday and I could not get a straight answer as to what was wrong or when it would be fixed from anybody via chat or on the phone despite multiple hours trying. CSRs are all trying to "own" your experience and get perfect scores, but they are basically clueless and powerless by design. The techs they outsource to are fine. First tech found the problem after three days with no internet and next one fixed it the next day (was fixing someone else's problem, didn't even know we had a ticket in -- so it's not just the customers that they don't communicate with, it's their own staff) If you go with CL, be ready to switch ISP at the first sign of trouble so that you don't have to suffer through their incompetence. If they fix it before the new company installs, fine. Otherwise you are covered. read more

Decades long customer, but constant battles to get through phone menus, did not perform fiber locates when requested by new company pulling fiber in the neighborhood (resulting in cut lines and loss of service), took months of escalation to get them to honor price for life contract, neighbor's CL gigabit never gets full speed. Service outage credit compensation rates are laughable. Sadly none of the competition in my area is any better. Only positive is that there are low ping times when everything is working. read more

Century Link gets No stars b/c that is what they deserve. Worst internet in the entire country! We lose our internet at least once every 4 - 6 weeks. Not to mention the intermittent outages scattered in between. Then you have to work you way through their online customer service, w/o internet. Madding. (Sometimes we are out for 2 - 3 days.) They tell you to run a test and to no one's surprise oops someone has to come out. That is another day, if you are lucky. The worst thing, is that CenturyLink DOES NOT CARE! I'm in the library right now, getting ready to work in what I guess is going to be my new office, because the internet at home, television, and phone, is completely blacked out. I live in a rural area, have had no issues with Centurylink, until now. I knew the internet would be slow, but since Aug 10, it has gone out and then comes back on, there has been 4 techs out here and said that there was a short in the line, Finally on Oct 4th the cable guys came out and stated that there was no problem, On Oct 5th internet and home phone went out, repair to be made Oct8, no show, Oct 9th no show, I cancelled my internet, on Oct 10th but still wanted the home phone fixed, stated that they would be out on on Oct 13, they cancelled everything now, They cancelled my account all together. When you call for a repair, you can not get a person that speaks clear English, I had to have them repeat constantly, I have had Centurylink for over 30years, I guess they do not care about their customers. WiFi been down for over a week. CenturyLink does NOT communicate what is happening. You have to log in and run a speed test to find out what is wrong. They then tell you it will be fixed in 1 day but it has been over 1 week. They make up reasons, waiting for equipment, waiting for permit, etc. they generously credited $3.00 to my account. read more

The price is guaranteed for life, which is thankfully as long as you have the service, not the length of time it takes your modem to drop off because that'd be day after install. I started getting their fiber service in August and it took about a month to even get a tech to finally install it after multiple excuses as to why they couldn't. They left my gate open and my dog got out so the attention to detail is lacking. My service constantly drops out and let me tell you. As a fiber engineer, building a network this poor is impressive. I make this review after my internet has dropped again, after two techs, and three weeks of constant customer service calls. The only notification given is when you search for reasons why your service is not working, you discover this message I have attached, which doesn't help with providing updates or reasons why your wifi is not working. The internet is great when it works but if it goes out, plan on at least a week before they'll have a technician out to look at it. good luck trying to reach anyone on the phone too. This horrible company drops service all the time, takes 20 minutes of obnoxious prompts to get ahold of a customer service rep, and takes days to come fix a problem. They found a cut line after two techs had to come out to "confirm". The first one took two weeks and then he told me another would have to come 3 days later. When he finally did show up he sat in my parking lot for over and hour before I got a text saying my tech had arrived, it then took him two more hours to decide, yes the line was in fact cut by the construction workers up the street which I had myself pointed out to the first tech. Now after taking several days off of work because I had to be home by threat of charging me if I wasn't, they need a third technician to come fix it who should be "out in a couple of days". Soonest they could have someone to any of us was over a week. Had someone out yesterday and they said yeah it's a bigger outage than just one house - duh we've been telling them that for a week. Sent out someone from their cable department (another day down) and they didn't have the right cable. Unbelievable. Another day down, still not here today. Unacceptable. The service works until it doesn't. Then you're in for a world of pain. Our internet access went out, it took me hours - giving up on a long phone hold, then navigating chatbots, then lots of waiting - for them to "confirm" this, then they scheduled someone to come out... Six days later. That person determined the problem was "on the network", meaning a different tech, which meant re-scheduling again for five days later. (The delay for technical work is the only part of this I'm largely sympathetic towards.) Their customer service is sufficiently bad that it can only be intentional (I mean, this is 2021). I tried contacting them through chat online. The automated chatbot is terrible, I had to start over multiple times to avoid going down the wrong rabbit holes, e.g., it seems to assume any message with the word "bill" in it means you want to pay them. (LOL, who's surprised?!) Once I got a person (tip: just type "Agent" repeatedly), I was transferred multiple times, then asked kindly to wait three times... Then disconnected. Then I started over. In the process I copy+pasted my initial request message four additional times. I started picturing my messages coming out on a dot matrix printer at the other end. Anyway, as I was finishing this review, my refund finally got issued. If there is a technical issue again, it'll probably be the impetus to cut service in favor of cellular connectivity. read more

If you are lucky enough, after an hour or more effort, to get ahold of a live person then service is great. But their automated system, if it doesn't put you into an unending loop asking the same questions repeatedly, gets it wrong. After over 45 minutes getting through to a repair bot, I spent 15 minutes unplugging & plugging stuff until the bot scheduled a repair -- for 5 days later! Then tried again for a live person & after another hour got one, who said "stick paper clip in reset at back of modem" & that fixed it -- voila, internet! Asked her to cancel the repair, but she must have forgot because (like an hour later) got an email saying repair scheduled. That started another hour-long ordeal cancelling the repair!!!! read more

This company has THE WORST support infrastructure of any business I've ever dealt with. Their internet offer looks great for $65/month forever for gigabit internet but if you ever have a problem, good luck with support. My internet went down on 8/11/22. I called support on 8/12/22. I got the typical "I'm sorry you're having problems" and the next window for getting someone to my home to fix it was 8/16/22. 4 days later! I had to take a 1/2 day of PTO on 8/16 to be home and nobody ever showed up. Then I get a text saying that my next scheduled appointment is 8/17. Now I have to burn another day of PTO to be home all day and wait for someone to POSSIBLY show up again. I'm cancelling this service and moving on to something else. Please save yourself the headache and try another company. This is the second time I've dealt with CenturyLink for internet service and the second time they've done this kind of thing. If I could give them 0 stars I would. I have been without internet for almost a week, and this makes working from home extremely difficult. Last week my internet quite working, called tech support and was on hold for at least 30+ minutes before even talking to someone. Then was on the phone with them for about an hour just to find out the their modem quit working and needed to be replaced. They sent me a new modem, which I received late Friday afternoon, by the time I was able to set it up Theron offices were closed for the weekend and I was not able to get my internet working all weekend. Luckily I was off work on Monday and called tech support again, on hold for 30+ minutes, talked to tech support and got disconnected, no call back, so I had to call in again and wait 45 minutes to speak to someone, then got disconnected again, again no call back, and had to call back in a third time and again waited 45 minutes to speak to someone again.... No notes of any of the previous conversations, had to go thru power cycling and multiple other steps on each call, just to have to schedule a technician to come to my house. Then I am told I would have to wait 5 days to get a tech out. Keep in mind I have already not had internet for 6 days... I asked to speak with a supervisor, but they would not let me. Then I get told an appointment opens up for the next day so I tell the tech to take it, and asked him several times to confirm it was for the next day and he told me yes at least 3-4 times, when I asked for a time I am told between 9:15am to 7:00pm.... Who the hell has all day to wait for a service tech??? This is insane. So I tried calling today to confirm my appointment, and the office lady couldn't confirm, so she transferred me to tech support where I am put on hold for 50-60 minutes, and still waiting to speak with someone.... What kind of customer service is this? How can you do business like this? I don't recommend centurylink internet to anyone and I work with several new home and business owners, and will definitely be telling them to stay away from Centurylink. Tony T. read more

Every time I have to contact them for something being wrong, I'm given completely different answers by everyone I speak to. I've been trying to fix my account for 2 months, and it's still not correct. I'm beyond frustrated and disappointed in their customer service AND internet service. CL home internet is low cost, but you get what you pay for: speeds are lower than advertised, and you can expect multiple outages a year, lasting a WEEK on average each time. Yes, a week. Omaha NE, First off I want to say I was happy with their internet service. WHEN IT WAS WORKING. Recently a mouse chewed a wire in the green box in the neighbors yard. We went HARD DOWN a couple Saturdays ago. Their automated phone line is like a CORN MAZE to get to a person, and when you do they are NOT local. We were promised several return to service dates that came and went without having anyone show up. On Day 12 of the outage after yet another blown off service appointment, we'd had it. Canceled service and called the competitor - who showed up on the next day and got us back online. The very next morning after the switch, TWO trucks showed up and fixed the green box to restore the neighbors to Century Link service. Apparently it takes people to drop to get them to notice. Calling to install new services was long and extremely frustrating. I had to report the first representative to a supervisor. So many things went wrong with that call but in the end I was able to speak to someone else and get the new installation scheduled. The only reason I was pushing for the installation is because Cox communication has the slowest internet service. So we needed to take a chance. Fingers crossed read more

I called Centurylink to ask if they were able to mark the underground internet cables in my backyard. The person at the call center said she didn't know if they provided that service but she would have a technician call me back to answer my question. A technician called later that day and said that they do not mark lines but told me who I should call to have it done. A few weeks later I received a bill for $99 for the "repair service" I requested. I called Centurylink again to let them know I didn't request any service and only asked for an answer to my question. They said that they had no details about the charge but that their charge was valid. They said there is nothing I can do about it and no one I can talk to. They charged me $99 for a return phone call, without any notification that I could be charge for asking the question, they say it was for a repair but they have no information for what type of repair or what was done. I would give 0 stars! The most terrible attitude from a manager in Centurylink!!! I have to write this story out - We had appointment originally scheduled last Friday, then no one came. We called and found out the request of the appointment didn't get submitted. Then we tried to reschedule it. The representative put 10th on there but as we both have a busy week, we don't know if it works, so called in yesterday again. Katie (a manager) from Illinois helped rescheduled on Jan 8th 4pm. But still no one show up today!! Called again, a guy named Maxwell told me there should be tech team still coming today, just a bit late. But no one came at all! I called again, then a guy named Darnell (he said he is manager, his ID is 113809) was with SUPER bad attitude. He said in the system he saw there is a change last night changed it back to 10th. But I asked him who changed that?! He said it didn't say! Seriously?! I asked him why I didn't get any email or confirmation about the change, he said not sending confirmation every time. Are you kidding?! Do you think others are all idiots? Then most ridiculous is he begin to keep saying "you changed it" he means we changed it back to 10th ourselves. I didn't want to talk to him anymore, so ask what is the complaining channel- he said he is the channel. I cannot accept such a terrible attitude.
