Ok! Take one step forward and 2 back. Last time I posted here I was impressed which what was happening at this Cinema. I don't know who is in charge of this location but I will say this. The place might look good during the day when the Store Manager is on duty. Because the place looks like a hot mess during the evening. The food area looks like they had a food fight. The floors are sticky and there is popcorn every where. Paper candies etc. on top of that the food pins are almost for the most part empty. At least the last 2 times I visited we had to wait for pretzel bits and nachos. No straws, oh yeah they are all on the floor. Then the worst part of all. When I pay $20 plus for a D-box seat I don't want to feel ripped off when some young punks come and take a seat with out paying. I understand that there seats are not activated. That's not the point. Then the damn teenagers running in and out in and out of the theatre. Talking cell phones on!!!? I mean really!! Get control of your theatre. Use your ushers have them randomly check tickets for D-box seats. Have them control the teens that have obviously over stayed there visit. Tell your employees not to just allow friends to walk in with out paying! Fairly typical movie theater with nothing really special to recommend it. Honestly, I avoid going here for any evening showings (especially weekends) because of the "customers" in the area...Northridge Mall at night isn't a terribly safe-feeling place to be. read more

I usually go here to see movies. When I went today on 10/19/2019, I approached the theater attempting to see double tap. Unfortunately, the lady at from desk told me they werent showing the film and when i mean told me I mean she shouted. I was thinking maybe I had the wrong date, but no I was correct and she was wrong. I double checked with my phone. Then after I corrected her; she gave me attitude throughout the purchase. I like coming here over the Maya because here they have kettle corn. Plus plenty of free parking for all hours. Not to mention it really doesn't get as packed as the Maya cinema. However, we did have to change our 4:20 show for the 7:15 due to the small theater room. But it was a quick fix no questions asked. Garbage cans are ALWAYS overflowing. Concession stands are ALWAYS PACKED and usuall just one open. They don't do refills on soda. I ALWAYS choose Maya over them. Maya has a large popcorn/soda deal for like $13 and unlimited refills and both. read more

Went there tonight it's Friday . Date night with my husband. So oloudur movie started at 7:2o it was oculus. It was empty when we entered. As the movie was about to start at least 2o teenagers came in and were loud. So I said when the movie starts you All need to be quiet. They said they would but of course they were not. Not so great. Employees are poorly trained. Asked for code zero and they hand me a cup , no where in the lobby was code zero, they were all behind the counter. So I try walking back there to get some, and some 16 year old employee starts waving his arms around like I had just entered a top secret military zone. 1 star for the popcorn. I started going to the cinema in Marina for almost a year and a half. I must say they have better buttery popcorn. I came to watch a movie yesterday by the Northridge mall and asked for extra butter for my popcorn and the popcorn refill afterwards. Both didn't even tasted like there's butter. I don't know about you, but I like a good popcorn while watching a movie. The popcorn in Marina is so much better!! You can add more butter yourself by the concession. Saw the jungle book in 3-D here. The sound was completely shot, had to strain to hear anything. That was by far the most disturbing since you go to theaters for the experience and expect at least a big screen and good sound. To top that off I want to mention the front of the theater was very dirty and unkept. Overall no one seems to take pride in keeping this theater up and clean. read more

Good theater overall. I would avoid friday and saturday nights, unless you don't mind a theater full of teenagers with cell phones and giggles throughout the movie, never fails. Soda machines are always broken and out of service everyrhing is unusually over priced. Not to mention that the employees are comoletley anti social and are always confused or rude i bougjt a ticket to see a movie and i only needed 25 cents or i had to break a hundred dollar bill i gave him the 100 and then some one handed me 25 cents and the employee told me it was too late and pretty much refused to give me my 100 dollar bill back and broke it anyways instead of accepting the 25 cents. So this theater has no viewing issue, but the only problem I ever have with it is the lack of registers available for concessions. Every time I've went, on time or couple minutes late, there is one register, and mostly one out of the two concession lines available to use. It's wack. If these made establishments better that would be cool. Let's pray they have more employees open to help the customers, right? read more

I have been to better movie theaters. My experiences with attending this venue have been mediocre ok or just plain bad. Movie theaters dirty, customer service either really rude and mean or flat out creepy. Whenever I have gone they have had a problem with the AC. I have seen much more nicer movie theaters. This is the closest theater so I usually have no choice, but I'd rather make the drive to Monterey. Saw Jurassic World here and had one of the worst experiences in my history of going here. First, the employee in charge of ripping out tickets wasn't even in the front so anyone could've easily snuck in. Instead, he was sitting on a table talking to his fellow employee, who was on cashier duty. Next, there was no one one on the cashier after I've gotten my popcorn and drinks. Again, this would've made it easier for anyone to just walk away with food concessions. The employee making the popcorn had to come over and be our cashier. Also, all of the condiments were empty and not refilled. Instead, the other employees were just lounging and talking amongst each other instead of taking care of the place. I don't understand why they only open 1 side of the food concession instead of both sides? When it gets really busy, the lines for concessions tend to be the worst and people tend to get cranky from that. The place also tends to be really dirty. Sticky floors, overflowing trash cans, messy bathrooms. Not sure if the general people are at fault or if it's the management. I hope the theater reads this review so they can change it around! It's pretty bad when the employees have a lazy vibe, unfriendly, and never smile. After having experience with customer service for a few years, the first and last employee a customer sees makes a lasting impression. Too bad both impressions are bad. Fix it up! read more

My friend, cousin and I were going to watch a rated r movie and the girl who was at the box office said we couldn't go in because of our age. We were all over 18 except for one who was turning 18 in less than a week. She never let us in and we didn't fight her about it due to one of us not being old enough to watch the movie. What really upset us all was that we saw a group of friends enter the theater who were younger than us, wanting to watch the same movie. We confronted the girl asking why she let them go in but not us, we didn't point or tell them what group of friends it was. She sent us to the manager and he told us that if we pointed out the group who were minors they would gladly remove them from the theater. We told them that they should much rather pay attention to who they're letting in, and then the girl starts giving attitude, claiming that we said we were 16. She never asked for our age. This was probably the most annoying and frustrating experience I've ever had at a movie theater. read more

If your 20+ yrs go to Maya Theater because Northridge Mall Cinema is a teen/pre-teen hang out. The cinema is pretty messy, but besides that the staff is pretty well organized. The audience is loud, rude and annoying, so do not expect a quite movie-going experience. read more

I never go to Century 14 because honestly Maya Cinemas is more convenient for me, but there was a movie I wanted to see and they were the only theater still playing it. Yesterday, my husband I went to am late afternoon showing. Everything was going smooth until two "men" started talking loudly and one of them was talking on their phone. I shushed them but to no avail. One of the "men" took off their shoes and just had their foot sticking out. I stepped outside and asked for the manager. He or she made a bad impression because he or she never introduced themselves or assured me that it would be resolved. He or she just said okay I will go in. The manager walked in and very timidly told the "men" to turn off their phones. If you are a manager you should speak with more authority or kick them out. Right after the manager left they just kept on talking loudly and beong obnoxious. I hate this theater. I missed a total of 15 min waiting for the manager just to have her or him tell me that they will go in. read more

Had to come to this theater to see a movie that was only playing here. From the people selling tickets to the workers at the concession stand, everyone we encountered was rude and unpleasant. The place itself isn't too bad but the moviegoers are generally scumbags. There are 2 main types of scumbags you will encounter at this establishment. Scumbag type 1: teens who travel in packs and provide loud obnoxious commentary throughout the movie in an attempt to amuse their friends. They use their phones constantly, take pictures, have fake exaggerated reactions, and come in and out of the auditorium. They talk the entire time, and only grow bolder when someone tries to shush them. If you encounter them let an employee know and they will come and ask them to stop. It works sometimes. Scumbag type 2: adults who bring children to inappropriate movies. These scumbags bring newborn babies to loud action movies and give them the gift of tinnitus. They plop their infant child and car seat down on the aisle floor and expect the poor thing to sleep through the soothing sounds of explosions, gunfire, and loud soundtracks. Of course they start crying, and who can blame them it's not their fault, but no one gets to enjoy the movie. Some think it's ok to bring multiple 2-7 year olds to horror movies. The kids freak out, and once again, it's not their fault but it ruins the movie for everyone. I've heard there are movie theater ninjas in Britain who hide in the back of the auditorium in black slender man costumes. They snatch up and drag out any scumbags moviegoers. The Century 14 theaters at the Northridge Mall in Salinas, CA is very welcoming when it comes to family and entertainment. The staff is very friendly. Most importantly each auditorium as well as the concession stands are very well kept as far as cleanliness goes. Every time I go with my family to this specific Cinemark location, we leave satisfied with our visit and would highly s to others! This is also the only theater in the area to sell kettle corn as well as employees wiling to layer our popcorn in butter whereas at Maya you have to apply butter yourself. Went on Wednesday to see the movie heat. It was showing in theater 12. Once in we sat down and shortly later my wife and I smell a strong odor of urine. Really gross!!! Talked with the manager, said she will have somebody look into it. Yuck!!! read more

I'm also quite surprised to read the bad reviews on this theater. I prefer it to the Maya any day. It shares a parking lot with the mall which is nice when you buy your tickets early and want to kill time. They keep it very clean and their concessions are well stocked. It also has a Starbucks - I can't even say how cool it was to have a Caramel Macchiato during Avatar. The popcorn is good and they have a large candy selection. As to the teen/pre-teen population, that seems to be a general rule of any theater, especially on weekends. It is no different than any other. So if you're looking for a theater, this is a good choice! read more

Came into the theaters today to see the new Christmas movie with my wife and kids. To be honest I wish I took the time to drive to Monterey. It was a bit messy in the theater, and soime of the staff were very cool, didn't feel comfortable around anyone. My kids had a good time I guess that is what counts but next time I will take the time to drive a few more miles else where. read more

Tl;dr: Horrible movie theater; I have been a loyal customer of this movie theater for every major release over the last fifteen years starting with The Fellowship of the Ring and Star Wars will be my last visit here. I recommend the newer Maya Cinemas, it has a friendlier, local atmosphere, and great architecture. My visit today was rather disappointing; I have recently had my car in the shop and as I was unable to watch the new Star Wars with my friends because of work, I skateboarded to the theater this morning and purchased a ticket. Immediately upon entering the building, I was told by a manager that I could not have a skateboard and was not allowed to leave it behind a counter or anywhere else while I watched the movie. (like an adult would play with a skateboard during a film anyways) I had to receive a refund, go home, walk back, get a new ticket, now wait in a dark, empty theater for an hour, just so I can watch this film. Which is why I have the time to write this. I would spend the time Christmas shopping at the mall next door, but I assume shopping bags would be "against policy" as well. Did I mention that my skateboard is the smallest on the market; at 22 inches, the board it is about as big as my shoes. In 2015, a skateboard is considered an acceptable and environmentally preferable means of transportation; get with the times Century. I'm really just writing this because I am bored and have been watching a lot of South Park, but I really do want to give one star. Turrible. PC. read more

This theater is ALWAYS FILTHY. I wish I was exaggerating. Went on a Tuesday to the last showing of Beauty and The Beast because I thought most of the crowds would be gone by that time and the theater would be clean. Bought our tickets and walked in, the floors to the snack area always seem to be filthy and sticky. Ordered our popcorn and got our drink. The drink area was filthy, wrappers and lids everywhere. We paid for our snacks and I went around to get napkins little did I know the condiment area was absolutely disgusting. No napkins available just a bunch of trash. By this time it was 10:15 pm and the movie started at 10:35pm. I walk into the theater and there is ONE single employee cleaning the whole theater. Really!? This movie starts in 20 minutes. We waited outside, as more people showed up they were concerned with the seating. The time is now 10:25pm and still not finished. The time is now 10:30 pm and finally someone else goes inside to help clean. We did not enter the theater until 10:36pm. Anyway the movie starts and I needed to go to the bathroom. I hate that if you are in the left area of the theaters you have to go all the way around to the women's restroom. I enter the restroom and right away it is filth. Paper towels everywhere. I open the stall and no toilet paper. I open all of the stalls and no paper or seat wraps in ANY OF THEM. No napkins either. I got lucky and opened up a stall that was broken, that one had toilet paper because it was not being used. I go and try to wash my hands and no soap or napkins. I spent 15 minutes in the bathroom missing 15 minutes of the movie while looking for basic bathroom necessities. I will never return to this theater. Maya will always have my business rather than this filthy place. Get your shit together! read more

I was a little shocked to read some of the reviews on here because i am a frequent movie goer and i prefer the Northridge Cinema than the new Maya downtown. I do have two complains about Northridge Cinema which is the bathroom situation and also the fandango number you have to call to get show-times. Besides those two items i really enjoy coming to this theatre. They always seem to have the best show-times and is always very clean and the fresh smell of popcorn is irresistible even with their high prices. For being older than the Maya downtown it is much better kept up and the seats might not be as big but they are very comfortable and rows further apart so i don't have to squeeze in between the rows. Every time I've been here i also have very pleasant interactions with the employees they are very young but very friendly even the managers they seem very young but very professional. All in all i have to say it is a great place to go see a movie i prefer this theatre over the Maya any day. read more
