I was in between trips, so I found myself celebrating New Year's Eve in the Big Apple. I ended up renting one of my friend's rooms in the Upper East Side. After napping for an hour, I dashed across the street to snag a pair of pizzas for my makeshift feast. The service was super awesome, and although they had places to sit, it was too bright and a bit noisy because of the group inside getting ready for the New Year celebration, so I took mine to go. Food is fine for the run of the mill pizzeria. But do NOT place an order for delivery. I highly advise to pick-up ONLY. Each time I ordered food, they were consistently coming 40 mins after the delivery window. I then called for an ETA, and was met with "go look for yourself." after explaining I was standing outside of my apartment door with a broken foot, not seeing my food, and unable to go "look for it". Pizza is mediocre. Service is lousy. I almost walked out before ordering and I wish that I had. That was the vibe I got from the place. Ordered a Buffalo chicken slice. They left it in the oven for what seemed to be 5-7 minutes. I got up to inquire about it and coincidentally they called me for it. It was well done as I expected. There was a lunch rush from a nearby school. The guys that worked there scolded the kids a few times about cleaning up their tables. I even witnessed a customer say something to the kids as well. A young lady asked one of the workers if he could plug her phone in to charge and he politely declined but continued with some words under his breath. It's just too much dough for me as I like paper thin and more sauce and Crispy and light bottom. And in summer heat the AC was not really on...maybe slightly and a fan in one area near the kitchen. I've been coming to this spot for the past 5 years. The pizzas are perfectly crisp and the staff is super friendly. The specialty pizzas with toppings is where it's at! I've dropped. A piece of the buffalo chicken on a floor of 7/11 and picked it up and ate it. All of their toppings are beef! Perfect for my Muslim foodies. YUMYUMYUM Was wanting a steak bomb, which (any New Englander knows this) you can't actually get in NYC. Closest is a chopped cheese. But just needing my red meat fix, and Centro being close by (polar vortex was visiting, f*cker) and their advertised price being reasonable (extremely reasonable compared to everything else in Rich White Land AKA the UES) I was ready to take a chance on the offered Cheese Steak on the menu. Advertised at under $9, it was a possible bargain over here where price gouging is an aggressive form of the New York Hustle. Result: more than pleasantly surprised. First of all, lovely little guy that jumped in when I was trying to define my order, "not a Philly cheesesteak" and although I didn't share that I was looking for a New England Steak Bomb cause I really don't think they've heard of that here, he gotme. And then while waiting for the sandwich we chatted merrily about the good old days and the ridiculous whether that was Spring yesterday and a Meat Locker today. Sandwich was $8 plus change plus tax and it was a full size hoagie! (submarine sandwich, hero, what-have -you) and although not bursting with the steak bomb flavor I was seeking (it could be an exaggerated memory, after all), I think the steak may have been a little over grilled, but the bread was toasty and the sandwich was gooey and juicy, the peppers and onions PERFECTly cooked. There was a hint of spicy heat that I wasn't too pleased about, but I've come to sort of unfortunately expect that in the City. Seems everybody's gotta throw a jalapeno in there somehow. Gave this place a chance based on a coworker's recommendation. I was in the mood for a chicken parm sub and called to order over the phone. I arrived at the store about 15 mins after I placed the order. I told both the cashier and the man making the pizza that I was waiting on the sub and would have a seat after paying. About another 15 mins passed and I went over and asked again. They both ignored me and pretended not to hear me. They kept on with their conversation. At this point, I threatened to ask for a refund. They told me they don't refund and that my order was ready anyway. They grabbed my parm, which was packaged on top of the oven. They handed it to me laughing and did not apologize. So in total, I wasted 30 mins (half of my break) waiting on the sub. It was cold and didn't taste good (their sub prices are cheap for a reason) so the wait hurt even more. They don't use enough sauce on pizza, I just waited for a whole pepperoni pizza to be made and bought two slices, this place cooked the pizza but has no sauce or flavor but the cheese and pepperoni. So dry and disappointing. I at to dry to even eat my second slice. Total waste of money. read more

Wow, I am impressed! I live on the Upper East Side and hard to find any gluten free options after 10pm. I try to eat healthy, but every once in awhile you just wanna have a slice of pizza. I ordered after midnight, delivery was within 30 minutes. My pizza arrived looking super cheesy and gorgeous. The gluten free crust was pretty good. My pizza came in a box and was also on a disposable tin. I think they cook it on a separate tin to limit cross contamination which is really thoughtful of them. I wondered why my pizza wasn't sliced. The next day I figured it out by taking the pizza box out of the fridge to reheat the pizza on the tin it came on. Then I saw the gluten free pizza cutter that was wrapped in plastic. Wow! I found myself close to my old apartment on E 78th St. so I was hungry & decided to stop in. This is a nice little pizza spot with a few tables inside and a few more outside. Now, this day was hot and muggy so I was hoping for a cool environment to enjoy a couple of slices indoors. Didn't happen. It was an improvement from outside, but not by a whole bunch. It was still uncomfortable. I heard an HVAC unit blowing air, but it wasn't cold, or cold enough, anyway. They had a nice selection of pizzas and their prices were certainly lower than one might expect on the UES. I asked for 2 slices and I also said I would have a can of soda. The price was $6.75, very reasonable for the area. I got my slices and went to the cooler for my can of soda. No Diet Coke. No Diet Pepsi. WTF. I never saw a place that didn't have at least one of those 2. So I grabbed a can of Ginger Ale. The pizza was quite good. The slices are larger than most, and while they were a bit thinner than I usually prefer, they had a decent sauce to cheese ratio. They were tasty and filling. I would return. read more

Reluctantly I have to take this place off my pizza rotation. A pity because I generally like the pizza, it is pretty good. As is the case with all pizza shops I will go for the plain slices or those that definitely have high volumes/demand. This ensures you don't eat a slice that has been sitting too long. I wouldn't get the broccoli Caesar salad slice if you follow...because it is too exotic for heavy consumption and likely looks like wax. So what the problem? On two occasions I have bit into my slice only to discover something hard embedded into the crust. I spit it out and take a look. Frankly I have no idea what it is. Last time it was dark grey and looked like some sort of twig. But it wasn't wood as far as I could tell. Cartilage? Clay? Bone fragment? It was not part of a bug. Whatever this was it was A real turn off. Couldn't finish the slices. Again this has happened twice. And it can't happen. Have never had this happen over 25 years of devouring NYC slices. Currently, this is the best pizza place north of Little Vincent's on 2nd ave and 73rd st. I live above where La Mia used to be and thought it was wack so I would literally walk the extra 10 mins to Little Vincent's. Now there's a pizza place on the corner of my block (78th/1st) and that place is as wack as La Mia was. Sad pizza :-( Centro is just an avenue away and almost as good as Little Vincent's (significantly better than the place on my corner). I had the plain slice to test the waters and it was just the way I like it: thin and crispy. I also have to give Kudos to Centro for the awesome selection.
