We live about 40 minutes from Centro, so typically go once a year to celebrate my birthday. (In fact we have come here for my birthday the past 5 years!) I am bummed to write this review. Since our last visit the menu has been totally revamped, and not for the better. It felt like I was at a completely different restaurant and I honestly was sad to have to celebrate there. Had we not been a party of 9, I might have left after seeing the new menu. The couple of hosts at the front desk just had a bad attitude. So the lunch started off badly. Then they served us our dish in a hot skillet. There was no warning about the plate and when I burnt my hand handling it, they did not seem to care. of the server commented that he cannot be bothered as he had not served me. Just a shit show. The server who served us was nice and brought me some burn spray. When the overall service (Except our server) is sucks then I am sure no one is going to enjoy the meal. read more

While visiting boulder we wondered in here for dinner on a Tuesday and were sat right away. Our server was very friendly and got everything right. The red sangria was perfect. Posters everywhere for $4 margaritas on Saturdays but "didn't offer it because of the game". Said it was happy hour instead but didn't honor those prices. Everything took FOREVER and the food wasn't even that good. They tried to make up for it by giving us the appetizer for free. Ordered the chopped salad and I could not tell you why they call it a chopped salad- nothing in it was chopped. It was tasty, but the toppings were very scarce. If I'm paying $11 for a salad, I'd hope to see more than some sprinkled toppings on a medium bed of leafy greens. We sat on the patio and, even though it was covered, flies were everywhere. Great place for brunch! I got a vegetarian version of their breakfast burrito and it was delicious. The meat was replaced with a jackfruit "chorizo" witch was really yummy. They have multiple other vegetarian and vegan options for those interested. Our server was very nice and the rest of the staff was very friendly as well. My review is based on the food considering it requires no skill to pour a shot of tequila. We arrived at night with a full restaurant but had reservations and were seated almost as soon as we arrived. Our waiter was new but brought everything out quickly and took our drink orders without delay. We had the queso to start with, which had a good flavor. It was a tad bland for my liking but I did enjoy the depth of flavors. I know that may sound odd, but it did taste good. It just didn't "pop" like I would have expected. More salt and heat would have helped. I ordered the Butterfish Tacos and my friend ordered the Carne Asada atop a black bean puree. The blackened fish tacos were packed with flavor and were difficult to put down. They were a bit messy but what do you expect with soft tacos? The Carne Asada had a good flavor, was tender, and cooked just right. It could have used more heat for my tastes but was good overall. Price wise, Centro is a tad on the high-end and you better pay attention to the receipt versus what is on the drink menu. We had a couple of tequilas that listed for $17 each but were $19 when the bill came. read more

Pretty dang good! Found this place after a hike at Chautauqua (thanks, Yelp!) and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't completely packed (because Pearl St definitely was). We sat down on their open but heated porch--such a treat for a November day in Colorado--just in time to catch the end of brunch (which goes until 2 pm). There were four in our group and we each ordered drinks--I tried the bloody mary. It was decent, but not my favorite ever. My sister ordered the bloody maria with house infused spicy pepper tequila, which made me wish I was a tequila drinker. The other two in our group ordered The Post Townie Ale in a can and a Corona (always a solid choice). Now for the nosh! I ordered a centro cazuela--a hearty bowl of sweet potato-plantain hash, spinach, two fried eggs, chile rojo, and guac (I had mine without cotija). This was a little on the salty side, but tasty and filling. The rest of the group ordered the breakfast burrito (only $5--such a steal!), the baja fish sandwich, the hash browns, and two of their tacos. I'd have to say the hash browns were the most interesting part of the meal--two scone-shaped cakes doused in green chili and sprinkled with cheese. Their shape made them sort of like getting that perfect corner of the brownie--the crispy edges made them way better than your average hash browns. I was really impressed with their accommodations statement on their menu. They aim to please vegan, raw, vegetarian, pescatarian, gluten free, dairy free, soy free, and paleo diets, which is a huge feat. With so many people working with an allergy, sensitivity, or personal choice these days, it's cool to see a restaurant go the extra mile to be inclusive to their diners. Not a good experience with overpriced and sloppy service. Felt ripped off after realizing my tiny $5 taco was 1/2 pork fat and less than 2 bites. Water glass delivered to table was seriously cracked and was not detected in time. All in all it was lame and I won't return. Save your money and time. Ambiance is not worth it and I will go to a place that treats the paying customer fairly. Gives Boulder restaurants a bad reputation. Trendy does not equal fine dining. Good place to be seen but not to eat. 1/4 star is the appropriate rating. read more

After getting a break from work in south Denver, I visited my friends K and M up in Boulder again. They wanted to get breakfast, and my only criteria was that the place have huevos rancheros. K's eyes lit up and he said "We should go to Centro!" The thing is, I never did get the huevos. There were so many other wonderful options, I couldn't decide. The blackened trout version of a Spanish style eggs benedict? (M got that). Biscuits and gravy with green-chile smoked cheddar biscuits? Yam and chorizo hash? Gluten-free pancakes? It was an extremely difficult decision, but I went with the chicken and roasted sqaush chilaquilles. I had chosen wisely. They were the best chilaquilles I've ever had. Had to get a side dish of sweet and smoky green chile pork, just to ensure that I had the full food coma later on. Everyone LOVED their meals. Excellent coffee was refilled frequently. The bloody mary was very spicy but good. No pain, no gain. Best brunch I've had in many years. I may dream about it. read more

Went here for brunch after a long hike and I refused to eat anything unless it was brunch. So got here half dead and honestly, I'm so glad I saved myself for this! Everything we got was absolutely amazing - thanks to our waitress for helping us decide. Here's what we got - Coconut fried bananas - Prob the best thing to happen to me. Benny - delicious. Huevos Rancheros - the best of all Cazuela - the sweet potatoes really make this Biscuit and gravy - pretty impressed! The servings are huge so be prepared. Also their hash brown is in pie shape and is absolutely phenomenal although I was too full to eat mine. Drinks are also good - I highly recommend the loaded Bloody Mary!!!! read more

Cam here for some happy hour action! Just decided to hit this place up because yelp had some great reviews. It was pretty crowded here but luckily we were able to score a seat outside in the nice weather. They have $3 tacos and various other things on the happy hour menu. I got the griddled shrimp taco and the barbacoa taco, both were really tasty and had great flavor. I added some hot sauce and boy was that sucker hot!! We also got the nachos, which were delicious as well. They came with guacamole, salsa, meat, black beans and onions. SO much food that we couldn't finish it all. The only thing thats not so good about this place during happy hour is the selection of beer, they only had one on happy hour and a 2-3 other drinks on happy hour (margaritas and such). Cheap, but not the most extensive list. Overall the staff and wait service was on par and polite. read more

Stopped in on Friday night for dinner with my wife and daughter. We are in Boulder on a college visit. We were greeted with a friendly smile by both hostesses. . Wait was around 35-40 minutes, during which they found me an outside table near the fireplace to get drinks and guacamole/chips. We moved inside right on schedule and ordered chicken tacos, carnitas al pastor and vegetarian tacos. Service and food was amazing. Covid protocols were followed to a T. Very clean and careful. Was here on a Friday get together as was in town for a wedding. Had about 15 people in the group for their happy hour and it didnt really phase the place. During this happy hour, $2 tacos (shrimp, chicken, or pork) and big bowls of salsa and chips are their feature (3 types of salsa I believe, ranging is spiciness). $1.50 rum and cokes and $1.50 Modelo are whats on the menu alcohol wise. Service was somewhere in the pleasant to annoyingly pleasant category. If I lived in boulder, I'd probably try to this this place up once every 2 weeks to twice every 2 weeks. Came here on a Yelp! Elite event. This place is BUMPIN'! Full of a young and vibrant crowd. Loud and fun ambience. The food, oh man, the food is really good! We tried so many dishes tonight and I wish I could remember all the names but they were ALL good. The veggie tacos and the meat tacos = both good. I liked the meat tacos better. The chicken enchilada? Oh man, so good! For those of you who care, it is gluten free! The Yelp! community manager was super stoke about this and I know lots out there squeal at gluten free stuffs. Heath, the restaurant manager, was very knowledgeable about all the different menu options that are also gluten free. I can't list them all like he did, unfortunately. BEST OF ALL? THEIR GUACAMOLE. I know, I know. With all the good food they serve, am I really gonna hype up the guac? Yes, yes I am. Their guac is making me salivate as I write this review. Super responsive and friendly service. Centro is towards the end of the busy part of Pearl St. Finding parking was not a problem. The restaurant is beautiful and the patio is great. Service is quick and helpful. I tried a Mojito, and it was VERY good. Probably the best I have tried in Colorado. However, I found the menu to be somewhat limited. I tried four of the Perrones tacos, and all of them were good but a little on the bland side, but that may be OK for people that unlike me did not grow up in Mexico eating super hot salsa. I was not blows away by either one of the tacos and was disappointed by the restaurant offering a bottled Tapatio salsa instead of their own hot,m or mildly hot salsa. I might have to come back to try the enchiladas....oh, and to get another mojito or three read more

Not only did this place nab the best location on the Pearl St mall for daytime sunshine exposure (the old Bagel bakery spot), but they made this place a first class restaurant. The tapas-like Latin brunch Happy Hour is genius. The Huevos and every thing else from the Black Tuna and Guac tacos to the Coconut Fried Bananas all knocked my socks off. The physical layout is excellent the way it integrates the outdoors and indoors. You can see it's flow in the background to the picture we had taken of three old pals having a great time together. Prices: very reasonable. Staff: AWESOME. They honored my reservation promptly even during a busy brunch, got us a table outdoors, and despite the crowds, teh food came prompty. After a hike up Boulder Canyon we came back for beer, and were greeted like regulars. Loved it. read more

Wow. After we were seated, we waited 45 minutes to get our first beverage. Then we ordered multiple taco plates. You have to assemble your own tacos, and there was no sauce or salsa, no limes, no dressing on cabbage, no taste. I had the fish tacos - my first bite tasted like dirt and bones. I looked at the inside of the fried fish and it was dark grey and completely inedible. Needless to say I left hungry as I no longer trusted anything from this kitchen. To be fair, the drinks and my fish tacos were taken off the bill. But I would never return. I don't know how this place is in business. read more

Wow. You can feel the Amor in the food. What a great place. Supper efficient, great cocktails - we had the house marg and Paloma both fresh and well portioned. The appetizer queso was outstanding - while the chips are few, the lard they are fried in make them fabulous. My son commented on the delicious grill marks on the fresh flour tortillas. Entrees were delicious. The portions generous with well balanced accompaniments. The grilled stake had a tender delicious inside and little char outside, perfection. The only item we did not care for which we thought was undercooked - were the beans. Flavor there was a bit off. Otherwise excellent service. Well oiled Machine considering COVID! This is good Mexican/Spanish fare. The salsa sampler was a lot more than I would expect from a simple appetizer of chips and salsa. I had the enchiladas suiza, which was also delicious. My two-year-old had the yucca fries with the sauce that comes with them. Like fusion food in general, I think the best part is probably all of the interesting flavor combinations on the menu. The price is a little high for the portion size, so while it isn't technically tapas style, you may want to go during happy hour and share some of those items. Centro is authentic Latin American food at its best. They update classics and plate dishes beautifully. (No sloppy plates full of rice and beans here) I had high expectations knowing the owner was the same as Jax and it lived up to my hopes. They really have opened my mind. I grew up on Tex Mex thinking of mexican food as chicken or beef. and the only thing differentiating one restaurants from the next, was whether the tortillas were homemade. This is SO MUCH MORE. The hostess put our name on the waitlist, and told us the wait would be 5 mins because the table was just being wiped down. 20 mins later, we were still not seated. I like coming here for happy hour. The menu is great and the drinks are well-priced. $3 for drafts and $5 for their margarita. The vegetarian nachos are my favorite item during happy hour and enough for 2 people. The chicken enchilada is good but a bit spicy for my taste. All the tacos are good.
