They're affordable, have plants and products that I've been looking for, and even have ones that I've never seen before. I stopped in on Valentine's Day and left with two gorgeous, unique bouquets around $20 each and a healthy succulent with a pot for $11. (Got one bouquet for my boss and one for my mother, both loved them!) The staff was great and the selection was huge considering it was the day of! I picked up a few pre made bouquets from here before that were about $10 and were also great quality for the price. Today I stopped in on my way home just to see what they had, I was greeted kindly by a man who was out on the floor. I was drawn straight to the gorgeous succulents on the middle table, ended up picking up two potted succulents, and grabbed two small plants by the register right before I checked out. The woman who rung me up was very nice and they packaged up my plants very carefully and securely so nothing fell over or broke while I walked home with them. It was such a steal to get all 4 of these plants for only $36, I'll most definitely be coming back next week to check the selection and recommend this shop for anyone in the Bloomfield/Montclair/Glen Ridge area looking for some affordable, unique plants and flowers! I ordered a flower bouquet from a different florist and paid $45 for what looked like an empty, $20 bouquet and had it delivered a day late. I came here to the brookside garden center to ask for help on how to fill up the bouquet and make it look better. They did not respond at all that day, and I called the next day to try to schedule delivery. It turns out, they don't have that soil in stock. Instead of helping me by changing the order, the man who answered the phone was rude, told me to cancel it on my credit card and that they hadn't processed the charge. This means they saw it come through, knew they didn't have the soil, and didn't bother to call or email me. The whole time he acted like I was inconveniencing HIM, when in actuality I was trying to give them hundreds of dollars, like I used to do every year. Then he had the nerve to hang up on me, as if I'd done something wrong by ordering soil and following up the next day. I was friendly the whole time. He was acting like a petulant child. I can't dispute the transaction on my credit card since it hasn't processed, so it's just sitting in financial limbo and I have to trust that they won't process it later and try to sneak it by me. I'll need to spend the next few weeks following up on this now. I'll also be finding a new compost supplier. I'm planning on replacing my entire front lawn with garden beds this summer and will need plenty of soil and mulch. Oh well.

Delivery notification service needs much improvement…read more I purchased a dishwasher and was told that someone would call me the night before the scheduled date to give me my delivery window. No one called. I happened to go on my computer at 6:30 p.m. the night before and saw that I had been scheduled for delivery between 1:30 and 5:30. On the delivery date I signed onto my computer at 10:00 a.m. and read a message saying that the delivery truck was 2 stops away. There was no direct communication regarding the delivery time and the written communication had totally conflicting information. THIS IS NO WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS.

That being said, I wanted to combine two separate plants into one pot on my window sill and needed the soil and a rectangular planter. Note - The only rectangular planters I saw were plastic, the soil was pricy compared to Home Depot, and an additional Hobbit Jade Plant was pricier there than what I've seen elsewhere. That being said, there may be other items competitive in price or not available elsewhere... plus (at least for me) it's convenient. Plus, it sells items like soil in smaller quantities, which may be convenient for people with small apartments. Recommend coming and checking Urban Garden Center out, including its chickens both in the hen house and roaming around free range!

Informing the owner of my experience resulted only in his making excuses for USG's bad actions with no apology whatsoever. ***And because I posted my review, the owner Dimitri vindictively told me that he would no longer stand behind the plants or the work done to make things right. He didn't like my honest review. Prior to my review, he was willing to make right his failures, if needed. It is disappointing that UGC is unable to acknowledge its mistakes or shortcomings, and that they do not know how to interact with customers.

He's not welcoming or friendly, but I found what I needed, paid, and was leaving as he was working outside. He grumbled something, which I assumed was the beginning of thank you or please come again. But, no--he was asking if I had paid--if there was someone inside. I loaded up my items, rode my bike around the block, and came back for a refund.
