This nursery was a little intimidating at first, bc it seems like a lot of landscaper and contractors come here and they know what they're looking for. I came here on a whim, I've been looking for deer resistant shrubs for a while, and Japanese Pencil Holly in particular. I came by myself, pretty pregnant and somewhat indecisive these days. I came during what seemed like peak hours (3p-4p) the staff was super helpful and I got exactly what I was searching for. Not everything was labeled with the price, they seem to get new inventory everyday so it's understandable. The staff is friendly enough to look up whatever is needed (price, plant-care info) but I didn't want to be a nuisance, so I'll probably comeback when it's less busy. I didn't read the bad review until I got home so full disclosure, I'm a person of color, a woman and a mom. I didn't feel any unwelcome undertones and I saw the staff interact with a plethora of diverse customers with respect and equality. I felt welcomed and not bullied into buying anything I didn't want. read more

Fantastic staff very helpful & lovely! They had everything we needed. We were traveling nurses staying at an Airbnb in Teaneck NJ during Covid. The owner was updating his lawn and garden areas. This place has such a great assortment at Christmas Time. I like a tiny tree, but don't want something that looks like it belonged to Charlie Brown. I bought an emerald evergreen from American Nursery, and the wrong evergreen was delivered. I foolishly planted the tree then decided to call when it finally bothered me enough that it was definitely not my tree. American Nursery recognized their mistake, delivered the tree, and planted the tree free of charge. Everything was done within hours. Very impressed with their professionalism. read more

Apparently using my initials to protect my identity is a big issue for this business? Why is that point emphasized more than once? That is pretty interesting they are trying to discredit my review with an irrelevant point and bully me into revealing my identity. The abrasive tone of their response is just confirming it was a good idea to not use my full name. Yes, there was a lovely African American man there who was very helpful - so I am aware they have non-white employees. I don't think they understand that racism can be directed towards just one or a few races. Racism doesn't mean just whites vs. non-whites. Sorry to tell you, the minorities aren't just clumped into ONE group as "non-whites." That is a very ignorant comment that isn't entirely surprising coming from this business. You can go through your videos all you want but you can't exactly capture silent racist behavior on camera. I came here to do a bulk order for trees and shrubbery for a newly constructed home. The staff here is so knowledgeable and super friendly and helpful. On the bulk order, they even offered a discount to retail prices. They were great at recommending different plants they thought would be pretty around the house. The selection here is extensive and the quality of the plants are great. We ended up ordering some evergreen trees, some Colorado blue spruce is, weeping cherry trees, boxwoods, and ilex Chesapeake's. They have taller trees here, which is hard to fine in the area. They also offer a one side at a very competitive price. The delivery fee is around $200. Overall, highly recommended. read more

Just needed a few flowers for my balcony planters. I prefer local nurseries than Loews or a home Depot. The place isn't too large, but you can find everything you need for your garden. The staff was so friendly. I was there for some time and I must have been asked 3 or 4 times if I needed any assistance. There are fairly good variety of flowers and the pricing is competitive, too. I'll be making my annual spring shopping there from now on. read more

We have been customers of American Nursery for a number of years as we look for early season Flowers for our home and return in early Fall for a re-fresh. Gary, Rhonda & the AM Team are always super helpful and their selection of Flowers/Plants are both fresh & varied. To highlight their customer service, I recently purchased (14) "Sunpatiens" for my back deck flower boxes among other items. These are Flowers which require a lot of water and with (2) days of very hot weather last week, I somehow lost them. I went back to American Nursery to ask how I could salvage the Sunpatiens and Gary & Rhonda replaced them with no questions asked. I was honestly blown away and it validated how much I enjoy being a customer. Big fan and you will love this place read more

One star for ignoring a customer at 440pm! When your closing hours is at 5pm. I called at 420 to see if they had a shrub. They said yes. I drove to the store and got there at 440pm they had cones blocking the in entrance. I double check the time and the time they are supposed to be close. Since it said 5pm I figure let me go in and double check. Once I got to the front door I saw there lights was on inside but the door was lock. So it is was obvious they closed early. I just spoke with the guy 20mins before! When I was just about to leave and head back to my car I saw someone turn off the lights! Really. Lol. I guess they made enough money for the day to close early and ignore a customer at the front door that called only 20 mins before. Ok. No issues I will go to another nursery or just hit Home Depot knowing they don't shut the doors earlier then their closing time. I rather give my business to a local business but in this case It looks like I have no choice. They will be open for a couple more hours! Sorry I will not be coming back here again. Very professional and helpful in selection of tree based on your home and ceiling height. I bought a Fraser fir , almost 8 feet tall for $70. I would say it is worth the money. You can also buy tree food to keep it going longer from here. All in all great place to buy Christmas tree.. read more

My father in law was looking up reviews today because I recommended American Nursery to him and he sent me your comment. Please understand I have been going to American nursery for years. The owner and family are people who have dedicated their life to immigrants, African Americans, females, etc. If you want to spread your bad experience do so but you should have tried to have a side conversation with the owner first. This is an owner who has a SMALL business, and shows up at 6 am and works until 7 am doing hard labor all while dealing with covid constraints. I don't know who else commented above, but it would only be human to protect your family and your business! The fact you took the time to to write a yelp comment shows you're a complainer and someone who has nothing better to do with your life. Go have an adult conversation with someone next time. The fact you sit online and write yelp reviews is all I need to know about you. I signed up just to put you in your place as you clearly know nothing about the owner and his family. Hopefully one day you have family members that would stick up for you. You mentioned trying to protect an image , if they in fact didn't try and protect their image it would show that your comments were true but in fact they are an absolute disgrace. We had to buy a bunch of evergreens to block the view of our back neighbor. The prices of established trees can be quite pricey in Bergen county. We shopped different nurseries. We were very pleased with the healthy, hearty and reasonably priced selection here. In addition, all the staff were very helpful and responsive. Big Ross, little Ross, Patti, Gary, and the other staff we met in the yard were very kind. They also had more inventory of the taller Green Giants than the other nurseries around. American Nursery's installation pricing was also very competitive. More important than price though...We purchased some very pretty trees and the customer service was exemplary. In addition Ross, came out the day of installation to help ensure the correct placement of the trees. That was comforting, . Their lot is small so don't be deceived about their inventory. They have other lots where they keep their plants/trees. So, if you don't see what you are looking for, just ask and they will tell you if it is at their other location. We purchased some Blue Spruces and Norway Spruces that are great. See the pic above. read more

He's help us numerous times and it's always been awesome. He's super knowledgeable and helpful. If you pick something out but he has one better he'll tell you. He knows everything about every plant. Reading the comment below by S.C was not only troublesome, but wildly inaccurate on several accounts. So much so that I felt the extreme need to post my experience with the people of American Nursery and the business as a whole. This family run facility is home to some of the most hard working and high character people I have ever known. Is it not possible that you weren't helped in the fashion which you were hoping for because the people working were busy? Making such an outrageous accusation that anyone working here or running the place is a "racist" clearly had an alternative motive in place, hence why they hide behind initials instead of their real name. To make a comment as such not only in contemporary America with all the issues surrounding this topic, but just in general without identifying who you are seems like the move of a coward and more importantly a liar. This is why you are receiving comments wondering why you hide behind your initials. If that heavy of a statement was true then there would be no need for that. I know for a fact this business helps the community and donates to charity on a regular basis. Side stepping all the negativity, this business always carries high quality stock in great quantity. In addition, I'm my experience the owner is always willing to work with customers to fill their needs.
