My kids & I miss my baby Zoey so much.. here here story in this horrible so call "Vet" in chowchilla Ca .. I arrived at the veterinary clinic in Chowchilla around 2:30pm. Once the vet had an opportunity to see my dog, he came out to inform me that she would in fact need the C-section. I asked if that was the best option for her to survive because, at this point, I was most worried about saving her life first. The vet in Chowchilla said yes, C-section was the best option for her,and that he rather just go straight to performing the C-section instead of waiting for naturally delivery due to her weak condition. The vet then asked me to bring Money to pay them upfront before he began the surgery. I quickly returned with the money and left my dog with the belief that the vet was going to perform surgery right away. Nonetheless, the vet did not perform surgery,and I received a call around 7:00pm (3 1/2 hours after dropping c-section money for her surgery ) to notify me that my dog was able to deliver the remaining 2 puppies, naturally, no C-section was needed to be ready to pick her up in 30 mins (8:00pm) that her & puppies were ready to go home. I was so happy, I had my husband pick them up as soon as possible without giving it a second thought, and he brought them home by 8:05pm. We kept a close eye on them at home, & at night every 2 hrs, she passed away... her puppies were struggling to stay alive as well; I did the best I could at home, but unfortunately, we lost them also. Everything was so unfortunate, I was left in a distraught at how such a thing had happened after being told they were perfectly stable to come home. I double checked the discharge papers to see if I had missed something and nothing in there noted after care instructions, if the mother needed any vitamins, or what to do with pre-mature teacup Chihuahua puppies,I called the clinic as soon as I could to get some sort of explanation. The nurse I spoke to stated that my dogs were discharged to me in "stable" condition. Stable condition sending my puppies home knowing they could possibly collapse resulting in dead,I asked why not keep her over night if she was not ok to go home? She 1st said they weren't able to keep no pets over night ( a lie) I know other people who have left dogs there over night .. I told her this, her response was "oh yeah we do but " we can't keep dogs overnight that are in CRITICAL condition". This clearly tells me that they were aware my dogs were not stable enough to go home, but did not advise me to take her back to the ER or provide after care instructions for them at home, other than to keep an eye on her. If they knew she was in critical condition the least they could of done was be truthful & honest with me.. at this point all they had left to say was they were gonna speak to someone about refunding me what I paid. I don't care about that, it's not about the money. I would of paid that and more if needed to ensure my dog was well cared for and delivered to me healthy,along with her puppies. As an owner I did what I had to do to save her ,but to me the vet failed her. I'm disturbed that a veterinary clinic would lack the compassion and common knowledge to ensure that my dog and puppies were 100% stable enough to be discharged, and furthermore, ensure that I, as the owner, was informed of the proper after-care needs of my pets, & also the danger that I was putting her in by taking her home. I'd like to add that after sharing about the loss of my dog and puppies with friends and family, others spoke up about similar experiences - some pets were misdiagnosed, others given too much anesthetic, and others sent home "just fine", take a look at the pictures & tell me those puppies weren't premature read more

I cannot begin to say what an amazing experience I had with this clinic. My sister's beloved cat of sixteen years passed away and she was in a rough situation and didn't know how she was going to take care of him. I took it upon myself to find a clinic who could do his cremation, that wouldn't be too far away or too expensive. I called so many places, so many were closed or had outlandish prices and I was in a panic because time was really of the essence and this was such a sensitive issue. Where could we go that wasn't over an hour away or charging $400 that we just didn't have. I finally found this clinic on a list of veterinarians around Madera County and gave them one last desperate call. The first person I spoke to this morning was Samantha and she was so kind and understanding and let me fill out all the new patient info for my sister so she wouldn't have to deal with any of that when she brought her baby in. The cremation was going to be much more affordable and she told me it would include a nice little wooden box with a tree of life on it. I couldn't believe I found this place and it all sounded like exactly what we were hoping for. Later on in the day I had to call again with a big favor and this time it was Stephanie and she was just as kind and wonderful, and she went above and beyond for us. I'm genuinely emotional typing this out because this was such a heartbreaking and stressful situation and both of these lovely humans helped make things okay for us. They definitely understand the love we have for our animals and showed so much care and compassion. I will never forget the kindness we were shown. I moved here recently and needed to find a new vet for my 9 year old pup. This veterinary clinic is locally owned by the sweetest people ever ! They take the time and actually care about your animals unlike most other places . I've been here 3 times now for various things and every time I leave feeling well taken care of and feeling like it is family taking care of my munchkin. The business is clean , easy to call and book an appointment and reasonably priced for the area ! They have never overcharged or forced a treatment that wasn't needed and do a great job of giving me all of the options and what is needed based on a timeline so I don't have to rush into any procedures right then . I highly recommend taking your fur babies here and also they do dental cleanings for dogs which changed my dogs life ! She is so happy eating now , her breath is amazing and she is so spunky and playful all from a simple deep cleaning that would have cost me $1k-$2k in the Bay Area and it was a fraction of that here ! Kate review but I feel I need to warn the pet lovers around the valley. I took in a 4 month old puppy for diarrhea so they tested her for parvo and they were going to send the blood work to a lab and get back to me with the results the next day. Well a week later a final get the test results back. Parvo is a very deadly virus that need to be handled immediately. Thank goodness I have many years of experience caring for puppies. The worst of it is they charge me 800. dollars for an 80 dollar test. I highly recommend to stay far away from this animal clinic. read more

I give Dr. Fred 5 stars no questions asked. My queensland was hit by a pickup last monday and she didnt look like she would make it. His staff took her in immediately and got her calm and cleaned up. She has a broken pelvis, and she bit off apiece of her tongue. I took her in today for a follow up. Shes got some incontinence issues, so he showed me how to help expell her bladder. He is pretty confident she will make a full recovery. He didnt charge me for the follow up. I would consider switching to him as my own personal doctor after this experience! read more

I have mixed feelings about this place, I took my 2 year old female cat to get spayed and everything went perfectly fine earlier this year but yesterday I took my 5 month old male cat to get neutered and they didn't call to confirm the appointment, the lady who took my cat from my car just jerked the carrier from the seat and I heard my cat slide into the side of it, they didn't tell me they were out of pain meds as I had requested until the procedure was all done and the receptionist who I spoke too was very rude and had a major attitude, and today my male cat is still acting weird so I called and again the receptionist was very rude and had a major attitude when answering my questions! Save your fur babies and yourself the trouble and go somewhere else!!!! read more

I don't know what's going on with this place lately. My dog had an emergency last month and they basically told me to go somewhere else because they were seeing patients from out of town due to COVID-19 closures. At first I was going to take my dogs elsewhere, but decided to give them another chance. Disappointed again! I called prior to my appointment to make sure they were taking precautions due to COVID-19 & the receptionist started they were offering curbside service. I arrived & tried to check in but phone was busy. After 15-20 min my husband got down to knock on the door to let them know we had a 3pm appointment. There was a line outside of approximately 7 other people waiting. No one had mask. You would think the employees would be wearing masks especially since the Governor made this a state mandate. I don't recommend unless you want to be turned away when you need them the most or want to get Covid. I will be taking my dogs elsewhere. Goodbye! read more

Took our puppy in because he had been coughing all night they took an X-Ray and told us his esophagus was swollen and it looked like he his heart was enlarged .I told them that more than a few times when I picked him up under his chest to carry him he had cried out and just recently had collapsed and I suspected something wrong with his heart . They told us it was kennel cough and prescribed antibiotics and cough medicine . Cared us 253.00 we brought him home gave him the medicine and he started having trouble breathing and died . read more

Super friendly staff. Very kind and genuine people. My 9 year old chihuahua had oral surgery today, and they took great care of her. I had gone to a different vet to get an estimate and they wanted to charge me $1500 for everything. With Central Valley Veterinary they only charged me $215 for her surgery. Took my dog there for what I believed wss a rotten tooth, i could clearly see a hole in the tooth. Dr Fred insisted he did a full oral exam and found no issues. He did blood work and full chest xrays. Sent samples and results to labs. Swore he had kidney failure and an enlarged heart, which scan results came back normal. Put him on low protein food, meds, threw the book at my poor suffering dog. Finally after months of being strung along we decided to get a second opinion. The initial tooth we took him in for was completely rotten as were the ones adjacent. My dog was xrayed and found to have bone cancer in his jaw, at that point he was inoperable, and had to be put down. If it had been caught months before when we went to Fred he would not have suffered like he did. We had a continuous ear infection with another dog for 2 years, after a trip to another vet, he hasn't had one since. I thought Fred was a nice guy until I seen the asshole he was when he handled this situation. I wouldn't take a goldfish to this guy! read more

My sister took her cat in on an emergency basis, it was bleeding profusely from the mouth. I called to check on the cat and the treatment (as her resources were limited), and was told 2 different things, by 2 different people. The first told me the animal was being observed, the 2nd that it was being treated (I was more likely to believe the 1st person, who was not exactly very friendly). I explained that I had experience working in Vet medicine, and explained that my husband and I would pay the cost of treatment if we were given an estimate of all charges. We were told the Dr. would call us back. We waited.. We had to call back. The Vet never called us as was promised (there was an emergency that came in, we were told. What they meant was a customer without limited resources - this was before they knew we were paying). I was very angry and upset that I had not received a call, knowing the poor cat would get minimal treatment without financial backup. When I explained that my husband and I WOULD cover the cost, as long as we were informed AHEAD OF TIME, (making very clear we would be paying with OUR credit card for ALL not some) but we did not want to get gouged with a crazy bill, the Dr. responded with indigence claiming he would NEVER do that. We got ONE call letting us know the cost to run a panel. That was the only call. The Dr. told my sister what he would be doing over the next 2 days, never once giving any indication of additional costs or fees beyond what we were originally given. Making me think that maybe the hospital and staff were trying to make up for all the BS earlier....wrong. I call today to get the final bill and happily give my credit card details, only to be told they didn't have the total yet. I asked the total up to this point (11am!) $156. Reasonable. Several hours later, when I had not received a final bill, I called back to find the email had bounced back, but the woman had not noticed. Not really a major problem, but when I finally did get the bill, I nearly hit the roof. Not in the thousands or anything, but nearly $200 more than I was told just a few hour prior. $200! When NO OTHER FEES/CHARGES/TESTS had been authorized or cleared. Not that I wouldn't have authorized them, but this is exactly what I was concerned would happen (Indignant response from Dr who would NEVER do that!)...and it did. The first thing I was told in a very snotty manner, was that a lot of items weren't even charged! NONE of it should have been charged without consent! Then the finger pointing started. My sister authorized the charges I was told. She just happened to walk into the office, and sent me a msg assuring me no such thing took place. Instead of calmly asking me to hold while she got the Dr./accounting/billing ANYONE who had any REAL info, she got argumentative and tried telling me that she thought I was only paying PART of the bill. As if that was an excuse for the additional $200! This is the most unprofessional behavior. Office AND Medical staff. You lied to the person paying the bill, then tried to blame an innocent party (the animals owner). Shame on YOU! I can only imagine how your patients/clients with an emergency and no financial assistance get treated. SHAME ON YOU! read more

Extremely disappointed and very upset after our experience here over the last 4 weeks. The time spent waiting outside for them to pick up and drop off was insane: an hour to drop off (with appointment) and an hour and 45 minutes to pick up. Each time I spoke to someone I was told a different thing-from the cost, to what procedure was being done- and was accused of being told things when I absolutely wasn't. It seems like there is zero communication between the staff; not one person knows what the other is doing. What angers me the most is my dog had to suffer through more than he should have. I don't understand why they removed his sutures, and when it appeared to not be healed they continued to remove them, and they then had to put staples into his back. I'm not sure what is going on there, but this office has gone sharply down hill since last time we were there. Dr. Fred was great; I wouldn't know anything about the new doctor as we've yet to meet him. This office is totally unorganized; even when I expressed my frustrations to the staff; they just politely brushed it off. I will not be going back, and will tell everyone I know to avoid this place at all costs. This is very sad, as it was such a good place when Dr. Fred was there; he and his staff were organized and compassionate. I could go on, but at this point I will just be going to another vet. It seems as the prices have gone up quite a bit, the level of care has gone down which is sad because it was so nice to have a local vet. ok I love this place. We are normal pet owners with 2 mutt dogs. We have take one of our dogs in for very bad ear infections and I we don't have a lot of extra money to spend on dog vet bills. They helped my dog both times with meds and basic instructions. I did not cost me a fortune!!! the dr explained to me that he didn't think we need extra "test" or "cultures" because he could take a pretty educated guess from experience.
