Contacted them due to blood in the dogs poop and was notified that the same day fee would be $95 which is fine but it isn't my dog I had to get the ok. I called back less than 3 mins later and the "open" appointment was full. I get it but there was no hey how about we see if we can fit you in tomorrow. Ok I'll start at when I walked in I was greeted by a very nice lady and the front desk and also a cat I love that they have a cat that gets to roam around it's very friendly and made my 3 hour drive worth it! They record your conversations without your consent and when they mess up a surgery, they just want you to let them try it again with a small discounted charge. They don't care about the animal. They just want your money. DO NOT take your animals to this vet for cherry eye surgery! They charged me $1,300 only for the surgery to fail 2 hours later. I was told by other veterinarians that the only reason it would fail that soon was due to improper sutures. Dr. Loweth did not want to take any responsibility for her sutures or her "forgetting" to tell us that she was recording the conversation without our knowledge. She made excuses for everything she did wrong. And then because I was upset that I went into debt for a 2-hour failed surgery, she accused me of bullying and threatening her, which I did not in any way. She emailed me to tell me how disappointed she was in me for being upset. And then she said I should be grateful that she refunded me $195 of her surgical time because she was being nice and didn't have to. His eye looked worse 2hrs after the surgery. read more

I usually don't have any problems with Madera Animal Hospital but today is a different story! This review is for January 22, 2025 at 4:11pm. Over a short period of time I've spent a couple thousand dollars at this place. Today my 1 1/2 year old pup was having an allergic reaction and her muzzle and face were swelling up. I called them right at 4:11 and they said they couldn't see her because they were closed. What's funny is their hours are from 8:00am to 5:00pm. I told her I could be right there I'm not even 5 minutes away. She said, "Nope sorry we're closed but here's a number to a Fresno vet hospital". Right now it's 6:00 and her swelling seems to be going down because I pumped her full of Benadryl but she's still kind of itchy. I just want to thank Madera Animal Hospital for caring so fucking much for my pet that they couldn't take 5 minutes to give her a shot of Benadryl. Guessing there's not enough money in that visit??? Well you lost a 10 yr customer today. My dog had a abscess surgery here years ago so we need to have his glands done regularly. They will not see my dog, but the other Vet in town will. So I will give them my business since they care about the well being of pets. Another issue is my dog has had allergies for years and we seem to go back every year or two when his allergies get bad. This time he went on 4/13 for treatment cost $600. No follow up just one phone call the day after his appointment, and the lady at the office told me over the phone today they did there part -Now they want another $35 to see him for the same thing when he just needs more medication. This hospital has great vet techs super nice and personable and answers any questions but the veterinarian doctor on the other hand.. not the nicest. I took my puppy in to have his first exam and some vaccines and the doctor made no effort to warm my dog up to him. He went in and started his exam with no warning scaring my puppy to jump into my lap and the veterinarian was looking and me like I was wasting his time. Well, I've been wondering if I should leave a review here since last year's debacle and I've finally got the courage to do it. At first they were great! If you have small issues they're okay but lord... I was ignorant and later I regret ever bringing my cat there. Here's my main issue with this place. They don't inject your pets properly. Updated protocols say that every pet MUST be vaccinated on a limb or something that can be amputated later if the vaccination causes Feline Injection Site Sarcoma FISS (a super rare but effed up cancerous tumor with a high reoccurrence rate). Well guess what happened, my favorite cat who's the sweetest thing in the world got FISS and what's heartbreaking is that they injected her on the side of her chest. Luckily, I caught the tumor early and to be fair, they did her surgery fairly quickly but god... if only they didn't inject her there. After the surgery I would go back repeatedly, I would find new lumps. It was because the surgery scar was so bumpy and horrific I wasn't sure if it was a tumor or part of the scar. On those days I could tell that I was annoying them because I was a nervous wreck about my cat. Though they were sick of me they didn't charge me again so that was nice of them. One terrible thing is, when they let me know what the diagnosis was, they didn't bother to sit with me and explain everything. I had to find a different vet in Fresno (the cat hospital) where the vet did her research, took her time, explained everything to me and patiently listened to my concerns. It's been a year and my cat had a surgery in March at a different vet (it was a lipoma thank god!) and tomorrow she's up for another surgery because I can't tell if the new lump is actually scar tissue or another tumor. This veterinarian center costs me thousands and thousands of dollars, grief, anxiety, and I've cried on multiple occasions because they gave my cat a freaking cancerous tumor on the worst area imaginable. They didn't even bother to contact the vaccine manufacturer to report it because she had multiple shots that day. It kills me that I agreed to vaccinate my cat thinking that I was doing my best to protect her. I check her for bumps almost every day and it breaks me when I find a new one or something that suspiciously feels like one. If you're reading this, please do your research on where your pet should be vaccinated on their body. Make sure the vet knows about it and if your cats are purely indoor, not to get pressured to vaccinate them over and over. Now I don't know if they'll ever read this but I hope they learned from what they did to my cat who is so friendly and kind. Also, I'm writing this in a very emotional state so it's going to be a biased post. Will this post make me feel better? Doubtful. But maybe someone out there will read this and learn from these mistakes. If I prevent another FISS case that would be wonderful. read more

THEY HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT CATS! they misdiagnosed my cat with a tumor OR plaque disease in their words, prescribed him medicine that was KILLING HIM and even did X-rays which they DONT know how to examine them and will offer to send them to a 'specialist' for $109 on top of the $98 JUST TO LOOK AT IT because they HAVE NO CLUE and the saddest part is they wouldnt send my cats medical records to another vet that's more helpful AND CLEANER. They don't really CARE about your animals.. only your money... I'm furious.. I had to put my cat down because he had FIV!! and they didn't even offer to test for that in the first place after I told them he got into a cat fight..... I plan to alert PETA on them... a nurse who used to work here HAD to quit because of how they take care of the animals and how they CON people... i have been coming here for YEARS. we have had multiple dogs come to this vet. but after this we will never be back again.. last year they changed the doctor and until then everything was fine. the "doctor" is some old guy who can barley walk and is so impatient! my pup gets so scared when coming here. her ear has been bothering her for a couple days and like a nervous dog in pain she wouldn't let me or him touch her ear. he gave me a muzzle to put on her, and with me struggling i see him roll his eyes to his nurse and say "it would help if she would sit down" like of course it would help, but my pup is in pain and is scared she is not going to listen to any commands right now... like why do you need to be rude/impatient... then they decide to take her out of the room to try to examine her and not even two minutes they come back with a $650 estimate because she's to difficult and needs to be out under so they can check her ear.... we've taken her to the vet on schnoor and the one in chowchilla and this doctor is the only one who seems to have a problem with anxious/nervous dogs.. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! you are better off waiting a week to get into the one on schnoor or driving 15 mins into chowchilla... they know how to handle anxious pets!!! this "doctor" is so damn old he can't even handle our small dog and shes an absolute calm sweetheart. read more

I'd give this place 0 stars, if possible. The lack of human compassion from these people, considering they work for animals, baffle me. Why become a vet or tech if you can't greet my cat or even have the decency to show any love towards them? I felt like I was in an interrogation for a violent crime with officers. I have never met a vet who has absolutely no bedside manner, and I'm not the only one who has reviewed them and said this. I brought my kitty in because he was severely ill and before we could do any testing, the vet looked at me and said, are you prepared to put him down. Could you imagine how you'd feel coming to a place in hopes they are going to help you save your loved one and someone you hope to trust rudely says this? With no compassion and a death stare. I mentioned I'll do whatever It took to save my cat, and the vet called me later and said, don't you dare start on any thing herbal or out there because he is going to die. Who does that? Why wouldn't a vet want there to be a chance your cat lives? Even if it wouldn't help, why not try? The vet did not want to try any after care, or give my kitty anything to help him. On another visit after I broke down a cried after the treatment I just received by a vet tech, he blatantly looked at my little sister while I was in the room and disgustingly said, your cat is going to die, why are you trying so hard...for God's sakes, for the love of all pets, DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO SAVE THIS TO YOU! You will never get a hold of the vet, ever. They will keep you on hold and be lucky if it doesn't get disconnected after a long hold. I explained to the vet that there is a cure for FIP! And that my cat doesn't have a 100 percent death sentence and he literally laughed at me. Please be aware that there is a cure and do not let this vet make you feel stupid for getting it. I am so glad I didn't listen to him. I can't imagine how many pets have died at the hands of this vet for not educating people on it, and just telling them to euthanize. If you have a pet with FIP, contact FIP warriors 5.0 immediately, even if your kitty is at the end stages! You can save your baby! The vet/staff will make you feel stupid but find another vet!!!!! I started taking my pets to Clovis animal hospital and omg it's night and day! Call them and you'll see! Prices are the same. I am very upset with place. My husband decided to take our beloved Bella here because it was closer than our regular vet. On December 7. 2019 she was diagnosed with mestatic lung cancer and we decided to keep her comfortable in her last days. She was still eating and drinking and didn't seem to be in any pain. Her neck was swollen with fluid and she was put on prednisone. By January 6th, she couldn't breathe. My husband took her in to see if they could drain the fluid. They told him there was nothing they could do for her. He decided to have them put her to sleep. I rushed from work that day and got to spend maybe 5 minutes with her. We decided upon cremation and she was sent off. I googled the d@d cremation services that they use. They have the same address as an animal rendering plant. I immediately called to see if it was too late to change our minds. Luckily we were able to get her back. I was disgusted when I seen they had not even bothered to give her the dignity of cleaning her up. They just put her in a plastic garage bag. This was ONE of my worse experiences ever. I adopted a dog and was given a wellness coupon for a free exam for my female dog. I took her to Madera Animal Hospital for wellness check. 1. Front desk clerk took my License and held on to it because she didn't feel like getting up walking over to copier. 2. The DIRTY scale used to weigh dogs was over in the corner in between chairs and other patrons. 3. I don't know who took her temperature. A woman walked in the room and stated she would be taking her temp in butt and asked me to hold her head. She never asked her name or my name AND she did not identify herself. When she was done she said doctor will be in in a few minutes. 4. Doctor comes in 10 - 13 minutes later and shakes my hand. Never asked me my dog's name. Only asked how he could help me. I told him I adopted her and wanted to get a wellness check up on her. I asked him if she ever had a litter he said - you can tell by looking to see how long nipples are. HE NEVER LOOKED! I said her breath stinks. He said she need to have her teeth cleaned! He looked in her ears and that was it! He never looked at Princess! He did not call her by name! And, he barely touched her. I will NEVER take her back to this nasty unclean place! They don't like animals- obviously. So I'm gonna assume Princess is fine and I have to make her an appointment for an exam by a real doctor who actually cares about animals and who is not so interested in shaking my hand as he is in attending to my dog ... smh Worse experience ever next to the vet on Schnoor - they are neck and neck read more

I have been taking my two dogs to Madera Animal Hospital for a little over a year. Each time I've gone, I have gotten great service. The staff there are friendly, and are interested in what you have to say. They're attentive, too. Both of my dogs survived Parvo. One of them had to be hospitalized there. The staff were very empathetic. We were allowed to stay after closing to spend time with him. He was very sick. The veterinarian there is fantastic and thorough. He knows his stuff, and he tells it like it is. Otherwise, the staff are always willing to work with their customers. A couple of days ago, I had to bring one of my dogs into an emergency pet clinic in another town, and it didn't compare to this place. Your pet will be taken care of here. read more

THEN after the 3rd shot I was told she needed a fourth JUST in case and that IF she got Parvo the company of the vaccine would pay for the treatment. Obviously that kind of statement made me think I'd rather have that little insurance in case she did get sick. Well I went in to take her for her 4th shot.. then I was told she needed 5th shot. And when I told her what I was told last time she didn't know what I was talking about and after I explained it, two members of the staff kept repeating the same thing over and over. Ok so I've been here before. Only reason because it was closer to home. Convenience. Last time I went twice for two different dogs the charges were around 2 to 300 maybe 4. Never paid that much because I only wanted certain things done for my pet. They give you a list of all the charges. This last time I took my moms dog because she had fox tail. The dog doesn't do well with strangers so yeah she's aggressive. The vet tech or helper I didn't get her name, but she looked Hispanic, directed me to the room; seconds later comes back with a thermometer because she was going to check the dogs temp. I tried to tell her that she didn't do well with strangers but before I could finish she cut me off and said "we don't need to take her temp". And left. RUDE! I think she was having a bad day. How can a customer feel WELCOMED if these trained professionals don't LISTEN??? Anyway, she had the muzzle, I put it on the dog. The Vet said she had foxtail. I waited for the list as they usually give you and what do you know? An outrageous amount of $320? I told the assistant I did not want all the services on the list. And she said it was basic things needed for the dog. Ok so, called mom, she said no, too much! I agreed! I told the assistant i just want this done and not this on the dog. Then she tells me that the dog getting a IV was mandatory. Mandatory??? Why didn't she say that from the beginning so I could have left sooner? Doesn't just sedation do the trick? Why would she need an IV? She said because the dog was aggressive. It's a Chihuahua!!not a Rottweiler or German Shepherd. So, that ended making me even more upset. I already didn't like her attitude, plus her unfriendliness just made this seem like a scam!! Hmm NO THANKS so, I took my business elsewhere. The foxtail removal was $55, IV $45, sedation $120, other nonsense, meds I can't remember but it added up to 300. As of that day they have lost me as a customer. It's unfortunate, that vets charge different pricing. I understand costs. But at what point do they make it just about money? Like all other yelpers here, it seems like it's all about the money. So, I looked around and found a great place! The whole experience was AMAZING! Total charge for foxtail removal including an aggressive dog, $80!!! Compared to $300??? And there was no need for an IV. It'd be wise for anyone to ALWAYS shop around & choose what's best for your dog. I guess some vets are more experienced than others. read more

I adopted a cat from the shelter 4 months ago. He was very old and had a corneal ulcer in the left eye. I took him to the vet to see if there was anything else going on a month ago and he barely even acknowledged him. He did not weight, check his temperature or check his heart. The vet was just concerned about staining his eye to "verify" it was an ulcer. 3 days ago my cat died suddenly when he was perfectly fine, he was eating, drinking and purring. I looked it up online and the only thing I can find is my cat having a cardiovascular disease that causes sudden death. If I took my cat to the vet a month ago they could have caught this by checking his heart, even if they would have not been able to do anything about it, they could have warned me. I don't think they respect cats as much as they took care of the dogs. When the price of the check-up is the same I expect the quality and the procedure to be the same as well. read more

In August 2015 we took a feral cat we had trapped to madera animal hospital to be spayed/neutered with a voucher from the County of Madera. We picked the cat up the same day. The County was billed for a neuter and a rabies shot. We received a copy of the bill. On the way home, we noticed that they had not clipped the cat's ear but we didn't want it to have to have it done without anesthesia so we brought the cat home. We have been feeding this cat and providing a protected place to sleep since it was "neutered". I made an appointment with our regular vet to bring the cat in as it was behaving strangely and looked like it might have a blockage. Ths was on March 24, 2016. When we went to put the cat in a trap to transport it to the vet, we found it had given birth to four kittens. There is no way i can think of that this could have been a mistake. I assume they figured it was another feral cat that would be released and no one would be the wiser. You would think a vet would be compassionate about all the unwanted innocent animals in the world. Apparently this one is more interested in lining his pockets without even doing the work. We know this to be the facts but there is no way to prove it so he will get away with it. We just want people to know what our experience was and be aware. All we can do is work with the SPCA to find homes for the kittens when they are old enough and to spread the word about Madera Animal Hospital. read more
