Our first experience was with Greta in July of 2023. 16.5 year old Greta was giving us the heads up that she was ready to go. Dr. Gary came in and Greta went peacefully across the rainbow bridge. Greta's brother Wesley, made it to 17.5 years. Ands just has his sister. He moved on peacefully with the help of Dr. Gary. Bella. Our big girl. Still jumping in the couch and chasing the rc car all the way up to a couple weeks ago. In just three days. She stopped eating and was giving us those eyes that we have seen to often non the last year. I am sure Wesley was calling her to walk with him along the mystical canal. Bella. 1-29-25: My cat of 15 years passed at home. After about 6pm I was crying and still had her body in my arms. I called and they asked if I needed someone to come out and put her down. I said no, she already passed and I still had her body in my arms and was calling about cremation services and how much it would cost. The person on the other line went silent. Gary Hsia helped us with Chewie yesterday our 14 year old lab mix who was at the end and there's no way we could get him to a vet. Codapet was great all around. The online scheduing is easy to use, same day service and responsive. Dr.Gary Hsia texted back right away and offered to come earlier than the appt time if it worked out for us. He explained the options and was very good with the all important two step process of euthanasia, sedating him first and really letting him relax then very slowly administering the euthanasia drug so that it was a very peaceful process and not rushed. He was great with Chewie showing care and was compassionate from the start and throughout the whole process. He then went outside while we brought out two other dogs in to see Chewie on last time. I just want to begin by saying if there were more stars to give I would give more. Though this just happened earlier today I wanted to make sure to write this because I hope it helps other people who have to do this and really appreciate how Dr. Gary Hsia helped us through this really heartbreaking process. The hardest thing to do is to make the choice of whether it's time for the animal you love to go or not. As much as we all wish this would happen naturally and not have to make that choice, sadly it's just not always possible. With that said, I called yesterday (a Saturday) which for one we all know is hard to get things like this done on a weekend and secondly especially on such short notice so the fact that they were open and do work on the weekends is extremely helpful. I called and though they were unable to come out that day they came out today (the very next day). They had me schedule online and then called me once I did so. They went through with me on the phone what to expect, pricing, and because we are a hour and a half away from them they did let us know about the additional travel fee, which by the way typically isn't something most of you have to worry about if you're in about a 15 mile radius of Fresno. The fact that they still were able to make it out to us is an extreme plus as my brother's dog wasn't in any position to be taken over an hour and have to wait in an ER for this. Dr. Gary Hsia was extremely nice and made the difficult process as positive as it could be. He gave us time to say our final goodbyes, sedated her so she would be relaxed and sleepy, and waited not rushing anything before that hard moment of letting her go to doggy heaven. Once done he gave us more time to process it for ourselves and allow our other pets to come out and say their goodbyes. He let us take our time and let him know when we were ready for him to take her back for the cremation process. We chose a private cremation and a return of her ashes for my brother so will be picking them up in about 10-14 days. My brother got to choose which urn he wanted and got a clay print of her paw. He went through this before everything which makes it so much easier because when it was all done we were all really sad and having to do that after would just be so much more difficult. I hope this helps and eases anyones mind about who to choose. You can tell that though it's a hard job he really puts his heart into it because he treated the situation with the upmost respect, delicacy, and genuinely cared with the things he said. read more

I am writing to share my recent experience with one specific vet, with the hope that my feedback will help others. Last Monday, I did not have a pleasant experience with the veterinarian who came to our home, Dr. Orth. I made the appointment through Coda Pet and called her directly, the main purpose being to connect with her emotionally since she would be involved in such a significant event in our lives. She called me back on Sunday night (the night before our appointment) and left a message saying that Sundays are her "family day" and to text her with any questions. My husband called her anyway, and explained to her that our pet was like our child since we do not have human children and that our main focus was to be as sensitive and kind as possible. The point didn't seem to get across as she still seemed distant and technical. At the time of the appointment, she was late because she didn't fully read the notes I had given Coda Pet for our address. This made me wonder if I had included any other important notes, whether she would have bothered to read those either. When she arrived, I still hoped to make some kind of connection. I told her, "You smell nice," but she looked at me and somehow misheard me and said, "Do I smoke?" She then tried to make small talk, and at some point called my boy a "fluffy cotton ball," which was uncomfortable and not appropriate given the circumstance. The process itself did not go well. The initial injection was intramuscular and excruciating for my boy, and he cried a lot. I'm not sure if there was a gentler way to administer it, perhaps a subq lidocaine injection prior would have made the caustic intramuscular injection more tolerable. As he got sleepy, I held my boy in my arms. I requested that I want to hold him, and was assured he would pass in my arms. But after poking him a couple of times, she was not able to get a vein. She had him lie down on my leg, where she proceeded to inject him in the liver. I was unprepared for this, as I was told I would hold him the entire time. She then listened to his heart with a stethoscope and specifically said, "I WILL TELL YOU WHEN HE IS CLOSE," giving me the impression I would be able to pick him up and hold him before he passed. She listened for a few minutes as I stared at the stethoscope, laser focused on the blinking light, waiting for her to tell me it's close so I can lift him and hold him. But instead, she said "He's gone, I'm sorry." I didn't even get to hold him like I was promised. She said she would tell me when he was close, but she didn't. And I didn't know when my boy left us. Then, minutes after she left, she texted my husband and I that the credit card was not processing. We thought Coda Pet had already run the card without issues. Regardless, she could have demonstrated some compassion and patience, as we were in the peak of our grief. Overall, the experience was businesslike, rushed, and lacked compassion. It was disheartening and one that will stay with me forever. read more

I recently had to put my adorable Shih Tzu down after being diagnosed with lung cancer last year. Gordy was my one and only dog I've ever owned and I spent 10 years with him by my side. Dr. Gary Hsia is absolutely the most kind, compassionate, and understanding vet I've ever met. He came to our home and assessed Gordy's condition. He answered all of our questions. He then agreed Gordy was near the end and the time was right to say goodbye and keep him from experiencing any future pain and distress. Dr. Gary took his time to talk to our family and describe the process. Gordy was comfortable and in his own bed. We were all able to be around him, love him, and comfort him until the very end. Gordy drifted off to sleep and then into heaven in the most peaceful passing possible. Thank you Dr. Sarah. I was struggling with the decision to commit to an appointment for my girl. She would still get up to greet me, drink water, pee and poop. That was the hard part. Wondering if I was making the decision too early. Scrolling through my pictures, I found a pic with her happy face. I realized how long it's been since I've seen it. She didn't want to eat. I was hand feeding her and she ate it ok until she didn't. Food and meds felt like torture. Dr. Sarah was kind and patient. Easy to talk to. She sedated my girl while I was holding her in my lap. Her body felt so relaxed. She checked to make sure the sedative was doing its job and made sure we were ready. My only regret is that I wish I gave my other dog more time to figure out what happened. Unfortunately, we had to put down our dog, Stache. He had a heart condition that we had been treating but we knew was not fixable. His health took a traumatic turn on a Friday and by Saturday, it was clear that the compassionate thing would be to let him go.
