Our German Shepherd developed a really bad case of fleas, and because of the chewing he had developed some skin issues. We went to Alta Animal Hospital because they could fit us in on the day we called. We ended up waiting for over an hour and a half past our "appointment" in their cramped waiting area before they even called on us, then there was a lot of waiting in the exam room. When the doctor finally came in, he was pleasant. Then he said someone would be in to "present" the treatment plan and bill. Then the tech comes back in after a while and looks at me and my wife and says, "ok, who will I be *presenting* the bill to?" You would be absolutely correct if by now you are assuming they were fully intending to rip us off. For 6mo of flea medication (Simparica Trio), they charged $300. (Later on, I researched online and it should've probably been $200-$225). They also had several other medications for which they no doubt also completely overcharged us. Total bill was $1200 (!!). Front desk staff (seemed like doctor's wife or family member) was very curt in taking our payment as we left. Now, the Simparica Trio did take care of his fleas, and pretty quickly. However, they wanted us to come back for a follow-up appointment. When we arrived for that they charged us *another exam fee* and wanted us to pay another $500 for additional medications to continue to treat his skin conditions. We paid the exam fee and left. Today we took the dog to another vet for his worsening skin issues. This vet has a much bigger and nicer waiting room, did not make us wait an inordinate amount of time, had a friendlier staff, and was overall a much better experience. For medications (that I think will work this time!) and the entire visit, the bill was $365. Including a no-cost followup visit in a few weeks. It made me think back to the experience with Alta, and realize what an incredible ripoff it was all the way around. read more

Honestly, I am truly not one to leave a bad review, but when it comes to the state of your pet's health, I would choose several other places before returning here. On May 24th, my 6-month-old, 5-pound Pomeranian began throwing up dark, rust-colored fluid and acting abnormally. Making the appointment was easy, and I was asked to arrive at 4:00 PM for a 4:15 PM slot. Despite my dog actively vomiting in the waiting room and no other animals being present, we weren't taken back until after 4:30 PM. Once in the back, the vet tech was incredibly nonchalant, taking vitals with a total lack of urgency while my dog was actively vomiting on the exam table. As an emotional mess, I received no reassurance; the entire experience felt entirely cold. The vet presented a $1,400 care plan. Knowing she had likely ingested something, I asked to hold off on the $500 bloodwork until the X-rays came back. I was told the bloodwork was mandatory for her to receive care. I agreed because I was desperate to save my dog. After a brief explanation of the X-rays, I asked about the blood results. I was told their machine wasn't connecting to their devices, but they would call me before closing. They handed her back to me at 6:15 PM, claiming she hadn't vomited in the back. The moment she hit my arms, she threw up all over me. After a chaotic sequence where they struggled to place an IV for a second dose of anti-nausea meds, they sent us on our way immediately after. She proceeded to vomit at least 10 times on the car ride home and continued until 2:00 AM, becoming completely lethargic. I never received a follow-up call or a reply to my 9:00 PM update email that night. The next morning, I called for the results. Instead of my puppy's records, they emailed me the lab results for a 12-year-old dog named Ginger. When I finally got the correct records, her levels were alarming: a potassium level greater than 10.0, a blood sugar level of 28 (severe hypoglycemia), and a bilirubin level of 5.0. They rushed a critically ill puppy home while her body was in absolute distress. To this day, the veterinarian has still not called to discuss these abnormal results or required follow-up care. I am so grateful she is slowly improving, but horrified by the lack of care. Please choose another vet. (One woman on staff was very nice, but not directly involved in my pet's care; nobody was outright rude, but the sheer negligence is deeply upsetting.) read more

I took my love bug (poodle dog) to this place for a concern I had and they told me I would have to leave him there for an ultra sound so I did. When I returned the office was closed and it was 3pm they don't close til 6 according to the sign on the door I was so distraught I contemplated breaking in to get my precious but I didn't I was strong and slept in my vehicle all night till they came the next day. He said he had to go early because he wife wanted him home. I just don't understand that kind of neglect for any animal let alone your pet. I dont know why this place is still open this happened awhile ago. I hope this doesn't ever happen to anyone again. read more

Overall the experience with the staff and doctor were great. The other patron in the waiting room was not pleasant. Clearly there is a relationship here as she brings animals to be seen here. I admire what she does for the animals in shelters, but perhaps she should hold her tongue when it comes to her opinion on breeders as we are not all the same and good breeders take their dogs back, and do not leave them in shelters. Additionally, many amazing breeders out there also own rescues. Her narrow minded opinion is why I wouldn't use Alta anymore. I feel that you know the hours are great that the office is open and it's you know located off of Shaw Avenue DO NOT GO HERE - they are rude and make u leave your pet, and I told vet I had borrowed $ just to be seen since my vet was closed, he told me to go out into lobby and find the money I needed to have a anal abscess fixed and made it out to be life or death - told me I couldn't leave with my dog, as I told him I'd do- and wait for my vet to open (dog&cat vet office helped princess 4x in last 2 years with same exact thing- only costing $200 not $1200!) but I believed Dr Sran and he lied to me about the medical urgency in her having to have surgery , stitches, and anesthesia! Plus expensive meds and I believe they double charged me for $275 labs! =$I don't know that a $1200 procedure was what was needed when my other vet who has done this 4x times didn't put her under anesthesia, keep her overnight or do anesthesia and was mindful of the costs and really does charge very little to help you and your pet- just like his dad did! and it was under $ 300 which was at "Dog&cat veterinarian office "which is wonderful !!! I've taken my pets there for many years. I stopped seeing this vet long time ago because the medication prices were just outrageous , and his bedside manner of an exam fee of looking at my dogs teeth (saying they need to be cleaned right away) and not her ears at all- and said she needed immunizations as well when I took her for early evening abscess- not full scope exam and treatment - !!!!! it's money before passionate professional care- the guy before me had a total bill of $1400 and was shocked as well - so if Alta can get $1200-1500 from each client and sucker them into this robbery bc we love and care for our furbabies- they will!! I recently took my sick, precious, indoor cat into Alta for the first time to be seen by Dr. S and I thought he was great. He helped my fur baby, Chuck, so much and also called twice just to check on him which impressed me. I called one evening and Dr. S answered at his office, as I thought I should maybe take him back in (over thinking things). He was very nice on the phone and said bring him in tomorrow and I will check him for you. He was very positive. I've been a long time Yelper, but this is my first review. I wanted to post my experience so that others can be aware. Do NOT bring your bunny/rabbit here. I needed an emergency vet, and unfortunately, the vet hospital I normally take my bunny to was closed, so I had no choice but to bring him here. Everything seemed fine until he was called in. At my usual vet hospital, I am always asked to take my bunny out of his carrier. At this place, the vet tech decided to take him out, but instead of picking him up correctly (one hand under the chest and the other hand under the bottom), the vet tech picked my baby up BY THE SKIN OF HIS NECK. This is EXTREMELY dangerous for bunnies/rabbits, and it can cause permanent damage. I freaked out and told the vet tech to be careful. For the rest of the appointment, the vet tech held onto my bunny, but he was not gentle at all. Thankfully, my bunny was not injured by this careless, incompetent vet tech, but ever since then, I have regretted taking him here and not taking serious action against that vet tech. I wish I knew his name, but please, for your bunny's sake, do not take the risk of coming here. My heart hurts every time I think about what happened. I've been a very bad dog mom the last few months and couldn't bring him in to be treated for his skin issues. Finally, I broke down and couldn't take it anymore, I had to get him seen asap before he lost the other half of his fur. Please don't judge me, I know I have been judging myself about this. I noticed that Alta Animal Hospital was open late, which was a huge reason I hadn't taken him in with my schedule. I called to see if they had any openings in the evenings, and they told me they could see my big ol goofball puppy dog the next evening. I was so excited! The next day came and I brought my pupper in, everyone was so quick to greet him and not one person was afraid to touch him (he looked so bad that it looked like mange...yes, I know. Bad pet mom, here...but honestly just a broke one). They brought us back, did the examination, and determined that it definitely was not mange, but recommended he spend the night to be able to find out the cause and best way to treat him. I came and picked him up the next day. He didn't even want to leave! He, in fact, was trying to go back into the examination room instead of with me...that right there...that speaks volumes! Granted, his a great big baby. But still...he was poked and prodded, had a biopsy, and still wanted to stick around! Fast forward to almost a week later, and I brought him back in tonight, 5/14/24, to begin his new treatment plan. He was so excited to see his friends! He was giving them kisses and everything! We were able to come up with a plan that could hopefully work with my budget and still keep him on the mend. I too wanted to kiss everybody when I heard that! Lol. Just kidding. But seriously. I was grateful...so very grateful. When we were heading out to the lobby, my big ol galloof tried to turn to go to the kennel. He did not want to leave his friends. We ended up sticking around for a few extra moments, as while we were walking out, someone had come in with a cat in bad shape. They knew that they weren't able to do much to save her, and yet you could see the anguish in their eyes while talking to the poor kitty's owner and letting him know the only possible option to save her would be going to another that might be able to do the surgery. But the chances still weren't good. Seeing everyone working there, especially the vet, and how empathic they were to this poor guy and his sweet young kitty just sealed it for me. I love the place I had been going to for nearly 20 years. But this one has hours thar work for me. Nothing against the other one. They seem to run about the same price-wise. But my great big boy that all but worships the ground I walk on would rather stay there with them than come home with me. They worked with my budget for the care he needs and seeing the anguish in their faces and eyes on not being able to save the poor little kitty...as words the Terminator said... "I'll be back!" My normal vet office closes at 5 and not open on the weekend. My dog had a suspected ear infection and I needed to get him in somewhere after 5. I called Alta Friday morning and advised timing that would work the receptionist advised she had a 6 pm appointment. I only waited about 5 minutes to be called back when I arrived. The vet and the technician were very nice asked some questions while examining my dog. Confirmed he had an ear infection and gave me course of treatment. Before he performed any services the vet gave me a full breakdown of costs to confirm I was ok with it. The vet flushed out the ear and gave some shots to help my dogs inflammation and pain. Got a cream and antibiotics for the ear. My dog has never had an issue biting anyone but They did muzzle my dog and I understood it's for safety as my dog was stressed and his ear was bothering him so I had no problem with it. Took us a total of 40 minutes from the time we arrived until we were done so I loved not having to wait forever. All in all great experience and love the late hours they are open until. read more

I can't thank Dr. Sran and his staff enough for taking care of my cat. My cat had gotten out one day and was gone for about a week. When my husband found her, we discovered an abscess on her rump. We were scheduled an appointment rather soon (two days after I called). The day before our cats appointment, her abscess had ruptured, leaving a nasty hole on her side. When I went into Alta Animal Hospital, I waited for only a short time before I was called in. Dr Sran examined her and explained to me that she would have to stay overnight. Later that evening I was given a call by Dr Sran telling me our cats surgery went well. Absolutely loved that and the professionalism. It was a huge relief to know our cat was in good hands. This Vet is a miracle worker! I came to him desperate for help with my senior kitty after a different local vet killed my other cat and best friend (Peaches). My senior kitty got really sick shortly after Peaches' death and I was desperate to find someone to help her after weeks of an ineffective antibiotic given to me from a previous vet and an Emergency Hospital visit days prior. He was willing to see my senior kitty with literally minutes notice and treat her, check up on her a day later, and see her as a walk-in whenever needed for subcutaneous fluids. I felt safe and comfortable with him caring for my Ali! Dr S has a heart of gold and is a beautiful soul. A million warm thanks to him and his team. I used to take my dogs here, we have since switched vets. The hours here are convenient but they are so disorganized. There has been a few times they couldn't find my pets medical file and once I called needing my proof of rabies faxed to the groomer and then three hours later the groomer said she hadn't received it yet so i had her call them and they proceeded to tell her there is no rabies record for my pet. So I had to call and insist there is and I had spoke with them earlier that day. Took my dog here for an ear infection. Called in and she said she could set us up an appointment in 15 minutes, got over there and we filled out papers. Everything went smoothly with check in with a nice waiting room. She then took us to the back and weighed her. She was very sweet to make sure my dog is comfortable throughout the whole visit. Found out it was an ear infection. Gave us her medicine and a shot of cortisone at a reasonable price I was originally expecting to pay! She does seem to be shaking her head but not as bad or often as before. I do believe tomorrow she will be back to her playful self tomorrow since she wanted to play right when we got home .She is able to sleep more comfortably tonight and I will too thanks to this hospital. Many years ago I parted ways with this a**hole. We had a Lab/Chow mix who needed a visit, and he was always Vet shy. He has a room for larger dogs that has a moving table. On the back of that table was several blunt hooks (I imagine for tying a leash?) Well my dog never liked his mouth messed with and Dr. Sran had him pressed up against that back. When he stopped checking his mouth, I noticed his eye was caught on one of those hooks.. It unhooked from his eye with a twang sound, as it was caught under the upper eyelid. The Vet Tech immediately said "Well those are going to come off!" And Dr. Sran scolded her for speaking and sent her out of the room. He looked at my dog's eye with what came across as love and care, and then prescribed 2 medications for precaution. Which he charged me for, AND extra for the exam for his eye!!?? When I protested at the front desk and told the receptionist that I now have a serious issue with the bill, she looked both horrified and confused. Dr. Sran tried at first to tell me it was nothing he did to cause this and he also said it was not legal to "give away medications". I promptly reminded him that court would cost a lot more than medications and he suddenly had a change of heart and gave me the meds as well as removed the excess charges.. I never went back and will NEVER allow him to touch another animal. It was an accident, I genuinely didn't "blame" him for my dog's behavior or the freakish accident of that hook. I drew the line when he took it to the bill and then proceeded to blame my dog. The hooks are HIS property and were their own potential hazard. There's a right and a wrong way to treat people. It's been a little over 4 weeks since I took my Yorkie, Molly, to see this quack. After high-balling us with a massively inflated estimate the day before and keeping Molly overnight, he told us that it would take weeks of hospitalization and thousands of dollars to help her. When we informed Dr Sran that we didn't have that kind of money he then said that it didn't matter anyway because "even a million dollars would not save this animal" and recommended that we let him put her down which was (now clearly) just something else to charge us for AND HE ACTUALLY CHARGED US FOR PUTTING MOLLY DOWN AND FOR CREMATION SERVICES, ALTHOUGH SHE IS VERY MUCH ALIVE, BEFORE ALLOWING US TO TAKE HER HOME!!! We decided to get a 2nd opinion and we were lucky enough to find a much better vet a couple of days later who was wise enough to know how to treat Molly and who was more interested in helping us than she was in milking our bank account dry. Molly has gone to her 3 times so far and the total bill has been less than half of what Sran charged us for the 1 visit AND she did lab work all 3 times! Either Dr. Sran from Alta Animal Hospital did not want to treat Molly or he did not know how to treat her but, either way, which is worse? Personally, I think that either reason shows what kind of man and what kind of veterinarian Dr Sran truly is. In the 4 weeks since then, thanks to her new vet, Molly has been downgraded from Stage 4 Renal Disorder to Stage 2, which is manageable, and she's still continuing to improve. Dr Sran, while trying to convince me to let him kill Molly, told me that she would not be able to eat, drink, play or do anything. She was acting like her normal self within a day of seeing her new doctor and, if you were to meet Molly right now, you would have no idea that she was ever sick and yet, this asshole wanted to kill her for a few extra dollars. I hope that others who have gone to this guy that have fallen for his bullshit and who have lost their furry loved ones before their time read this. This man does not deserve to be in the business of caring for our beloved furry family members. If you love your pets and if you don't have money to just unnecessarily throw away, there are better places to go than this horrible guy, trust me. read more

I took my pup in for a post adoption appointment. The receptionist reviewed his shot records and kept insinuating he need another vaccination on this day when in fact it was not due for another week. They then asked about stool sampling which I declined. When we went back into the room the guy who completed his exam was very rough with him, not friendly, or welcoming. I informed the vet our pup had a cough and he diagnosed him with kennel cough. He immediately said treatment would be 245. I explained I couldn't afford it and he was not compassionate or understanding. He then said well "can you at least buy the antibiotics" very sarcastically. I told him I would come back if the problem got worse. I will not ever return to this vet. Rescued a kitten from a shelter 4 hours north of Fresno. The kitten had been neutered AND had an eye removed which I knew about. When I got home and read through the paperwork I learned both procedures had been done less than 24 hours ago and I had not been given any medication for the poor kitten!! I called several places who wouldn't see the cat because they had not done the procedures themselves and they suggested we drive back up to the rescue. Dr. Sran at Alta Animal Hospital spoke with me on the phone and was SO KIND and assured me he wld see the kitten first thing in the morning. We went in and we loved not only the doctor but also his support staff! Truly kind, caring, considerate office. I can't recommend them enough!! We've brought all of our animal to Dr. Sran and have no complaints. He and his staff are professional and caring. They are honest and upfront, not to mention his late hours for the working man and woman. We just lost our dog of 12 years but Dr Sran and his staff were wonderful explaining the end stage and then handling the cremation. I only had to wait around 15 minutes for him to get the job done while the staff was super friendly while we waited. Called one night to see how much it would be to bring in my puppy and was told that there would be a right off the back $45 examination fee so I said okay, and I let whoever I was talking with on that phone that I would be on my way, she then tells me "see you in a bit, I'll make sure to have one of the doctors ready to see you." However, I get there and the same lady who told me it was going to be $45 tells me "oh it's actually going to be $65 because you didn't make an appointment." Roscoe and I sadly lost his battle with what I'm sure was poisoning due to eating a poisoned rat. The worst of it was that I only had Alta Animal Hospital in Clovis to go to. I knew of no one else. The man charged $312 for simple bloodwork and stool exam that used to cost me $80 and $35 respectively years ago. He tried to add pain to misery by suggesting Roscoe had a tumor from cancer and wanted to do an x-ray ... for $500! I didn't have that kind of money nor could I afford to start over again with another vet, having no idea where to go. I elected to put him down. He took me for another $145 just to put Roscoe down. Talk about insult to injury. Another thing was that the vet reported Roscoe's bloodwork was normal. I got a copy of the tests and they were anything but normal. My take away was the man was all about himself and his bottom line. Money, money, money. After all, there are other Roscoes and Daves out there. What's one more cat to this world. I would give 0 stars if I could. We took our rescue dog here for the free wellness exam and walked out paying $266 in medications that I'm pretty sure she didn't need. He claimed she had kennel cough, but never did a test for it. Scared me into thinking that I could catch kennel cough myself because I have a poor immune system. After talking with another vet I found out that it's incredibly rare, next to impossible, for me or any human to get it. Before we thought about getting a second opinion on her we took her back for the free follow up just for him to run a dewormer test ($45), that I was pretty sure she had already had that we paid for at the shelter, he claimed it's not the same. Two days later he called with the results saying she had two parasites and used his scare tactics again to make me think I could catch them too. We spent another $80 on those medications. They told us to come back in two weeks with a sample of her poop and told us how much they needed to run a follow up test. At this point my husband and I were both thinking that this whole thing was BS. We took her to another vet and talked with them about what was done and the fact that they took her in the back for a stool sample and conveniently enough no one was allowed back there. He explained that you need at least an inch to do a proper test and there's no way they got her to poop on command back there that quickly and we knew then we had been dooped. Never going back again.
