Since we were driving through Des Moines, I used Google to find ACS MEDICAL and spoke to an angel named Dominique. Yes they had what I needed, and yes, I could pick it up as soon as we get there. Not only that, it was a great value, lower than most internet sites. Hallelujah!! There aren't words to express the service we received (including the huge hug I gave + got from Dominique) and the service we got from Korea and Greg, the manager. My gf's mom recently moved into senior living in Ankeny and she needed a quality walker. Not the…read moresimple walker, but one with the seat and brakes, etc. We were out and about on our normal weekend routine and she mentioned it to me. I remembered there was a Hammer Medical supply store near where I live. We pulled in and I noticed the Hammer sign was gone. The medical supply store was still there, but it had been rebranded to NuCara Home Medical. We walked in, the place seemed empty, but a voice in the back called out greeting us. The desks where the staff sits are not directly in the front. One of them walked up to meet us and ask us what we were looking for. From there she took us through the walkers they stocked, their price points, features, warranty etc. Once my gf had selected one the process was pretty quick and painless. Except for when I had to load it up into her car... Lol The checkout process at the point of sale is thorough and they go through EVERYTHING with you, but my guess is that's normally what is needed for a transaction that requires insurance paperwork. We seemed like we might be an anomally for them...more like a straight retail sale. All in all a really good experience.

If I could, I would give Hammer Medical a negative 10. They are the worst. I could not receive my…read moremedical supplies without paying for them first (as expected)...sometimes I would pay w/cash, check or credit card. I always made sure to get e receipt. Than they starting sending me bills in the mail for the supplies I already paid for. Than they started sending me itemized billing, that they had changed the date(s) on, saying I owed even more $$ than the before billing statements they sent. Than they started sending me threatening billing statements saying they were going to sue me for $$ owed. I replied, please do. Please sue me, because I will counter sue showing proof that I pre-paid for my medical supplies & show how Hammer changed the dates and added more $$$$ owed + I will counter sue for all the grief and stress Hammer put me through while fighting stage 4 anal cancer. I also contacted the Department of Human Services and sent them copies of all my receipts along w/ Hammer's bogus itemized billing statements. Needless to say, Hammer quit sending me billing statements and I (luckly) found Unity Point at Home (A+) and now get ALL of my medical supplies from Unity Point. AVOID HAMMER MEDICAL AT ALL COST!!

After a sleep study, I was told I could go get a c-pap or I-pap machine the same day after leaving…read moremy morning consultation. NOT A CHANCE. First of all the doctor sent me to Hammer medical supply which needs a ton of information more than what I was sent with which was my prescription for the machine and my sleep study results. they still needed more than that to even submit it to my insurance. I left Hammer thinking all was well, was told this was going on my 2015 insurance which we'd met the family deductible already and that they'd call me when it came in. I waited a week and a half hadn't heard anything, called Hammer back and found out they are still waiting on something from the sleep study doctor and it cannot go to insurance without some document. Now they tell me it will also have to go on my this year's insurance since it goes from the day that it's ordered and they couldn't order before without all of the documents. Not sure why they told me it'd go on last year's since that's when I was in the store to order it and also when the doctor ordered the machine for me. I called to talk to the sleep study doctor about who to use instead of Hammer since he told me they were NOT the cheapest but it wouldn't matter since I had met my deductible, it's a big deal now since we haven't even submitted the order, now I'm told by the exact same Chris at Hammer that it'll go on a new deductible and I will be paying fully for this device out of pocket. Also I'm now told by hammer that it's a rental not a purchase so there's a monthly fee to use the machine for 10 months at which time it's considered paid in full. I called to ask for the doctor to call me back and the receptionist was very reluctant to even do this which had me boiling. What doctor won't call a patient back? That's the first and last time I'll ever experience that. DON'T GO To HAMMER or Iowa Sleep!
