CRG just recently celebrated its two year anniversary and I went to climb this past weekend. I love this gym and its community-centric vibe. Management is great and the climbing problems are varied to the point where you simply won't find a local gym with the diversity of climbing challenges that CRG offers. They have been great to climb at during COVID and feel safe doing so with mask-mandates and other procedures. They have done away with the enforced timeslot reservations, but they worked well during the height of the pandemic to ensure capacity was kept low. If you're looking for a gym, CRG not only has climbing but a separate facility and room with treadmill, weights and a yoga room as well. The classes are free for members. I usually just come here to climb, but will occasionally run or bike using their gym facilities. I usually get here at least once or twice a week and this is a great place to help get you through a Buffalo-winter. read more

BOULDERING GALORE It doesn't matter if you're a sophisticated cliff hanger-er, or like me, just a regular dude.. This place rocks (no pun intended), and you're going to enjoy it. I only tried the bouldering here, but please note there are also several rock climbing walls (ones you use ropes and a spotter on belay), a kid's section with instructions and even an actual weight gym. The bouldering walls have, gosh, more than two dozen paths to climb that vary in difficulty. The climbs are quantified: V0, V1, V2... I saw them as high as a V8 or V9. More experienced climbers can use the whole balance of the walls, but less experienced climbers (probably you if you're reader this review), will be likely sticking to the V0 or V1 paths, which there are many. I was certainly in this category, but I did ok. I knocked out all the V0's and V1's, many V2's and even bagged a V3. I'd say I was the best climber there wearing jeans*. Don't be discouraged if you don't dominate on day 1. There is a considerable amount of conditioning to the finger joints and strengthening of muscles in the wrist and forearm that one wouldn't develop before bouldering. And if you look around, you can see that it is obviously a great workout, as you'll see all the people that practice and work here are really, really good-looking, if you're into that kind of thing. I'm not though, as I am married. It's only ugly people for me from this point out in my life. * NOTE: A person shouldn't wear jeans while bouldering/rock climbing. Doing so would cause others to believe the person wearing jeans is a goofball, somebody's dad or ill-prepared for even the most routine of life's days in general. We had a great time trying out Central Rock. We are climbing beginners and decided to just do a day pass to give bouldering a try and enjoyed pushing ourselves on the different courses. The place is huge and clean, so we felt comfortable during covid. I could definitely see myself getting hooked on this place if I lived nearby. Staff was very friendly and helpful as well. Really great place to learn how to rock climb! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I might have been intimidated if I didn't go with a friend everytime I went, but that's a personal preference. The kids wall is incredible and I can't wait to have a birthday party there for my son! There's also a gym, yoga studio, and more amenities. They're right next door to Resurgence so you have a place to relax and enjoy a beer after your workout. The best part of the place is it's colorful and clean! Try it out! read more

I think this is the best bang for your buck gym in town. So, I have scoured the internet, read all of the reviews on the local gyms here in Buffalo, but have come up short with finding something that I can both afford and get a good workout. For $75/month you get unlimited rock climbing, free intro classes (learn how to belay!) and yoga and strength training. It's literally the best. And it's a great workout. The facility is super clean, the locker rooms are hella nice, and the people there are super friendly and helpful. The bouldering wall can get busy during prime gym time (after 5) but if you're top roping, then you should be fine. read more

I checked out this gym on their first day and it was running so smoothly. It was so easy to complete the waiver before heading to the gym to save time when checking in. They have so many walls with many different problems for all skill levels which is awesome. Memberships are monthly with no fees so you won't feel the pressure of staying bound to a gym which is great since there are a lot of students in the area who come from other locations. Their website also has a lot of information about pricing and gear! There is also a large parking lot which is always helpful. World class facility. Brand new building, clean, bright, and most importantly high ceilings! Tons of boulder problems to choose from at all skill levels as well as one of the largest top rope and lead climbing walls in the area. They have locker rooms, a fitness area with weight machines and aerobic equipment, and a yoga studio. And they sell all the climbing gear you need to climb. This was my first time rock climbing and I was super excited and fully prepared. I already signed the waiver online prior to going to the gym so the moment I arrived, Violet gave me a tour of the gym. She also took the time to give me tips on climbing and how to properly land when I jump down from the wall. She was great and very clear on all the instructions! The place is huge and there's different levels of climbing so don't be scared or feel overwhelmed just start off at V0 and move to your own pace. There's also a section for little kids, awesome! The day pass was $30 but if you're a student or in the military be sure to show them your id for a discount. The fee includes climbing shoes, chalk and any other neccessities for climbing. They also have combination lockers in the bathroom to put away your valuables. There's also a fitness center with cardio equipments,free weights and a yoga room for all types of classes. Central Rock Gym is the epitome of what a gym should be, no matter your fitness level there is something there for everyone. I look forward to going back, so what are you waiting for? read more

I would not recommend considering that you have to pay an arm and a leg to use your own arms and legs to climb their walls. A day pass costs a whopping $18, which they subsequently charge you $5 for a harness rental and $2 for a hunk of metal (belay device). Also if you don't have climbing shoes, you'll have to pay another $5. That's $30 for a day indoors. Niagara climbing center offers a day pass for $15 which covers harness and belay device. You can rent shoes if you want, but they aren't required to top rope. Go to Niagara climbing center instead of this money pit. read more

After climbing at the North Tonawanda climbing gym for 4 years, it's very refreshing to have a "real" climbing gym in Buffalo. Yoga, fitness, bouldering, top roping, and sport climbing are all present at this facility. The staff is friendly, and so far it's very clean. It's only been open for 10 days, so criticisms are hard to come by, but I hope this continues to be a great climbing gym for the Buffalo community. read more

Sometimes feels like i just hung out with friends instead of climbed! Fitness room is good, no machines other than cardio, but totally equipped for working any muscle group! This gym made me raise my standards of what a climbing gym could be. They have a great design with a huge section of bouldering from slab to cave. Since opening less than a year ago they have hosted two bouldering competitions and are now launching a team to travel to local competitions as well. There is a good blend of top rope and lead rope options along the back of the gym for those wanting to work on endurance and higher climbs. Everyone who works there is super helpful and will happily chat with you. They're really good at remembering names, so the woman who lead my belayer certification course still says hi every time I go there. Huge bathrooms with lots of space and free locking lockers along with a shower you can sign up to use for free. I recommend yoga with Spencer, who listens to the class in terms of what they want to work on and does a good job talking through the movements in general terms as well for those who are new to yoga. All in all, I am super happy with my membership and feel the cost is well worth it, particularly if you go once a week or more (it pays for itself). There is plenty of parking, a discount on gear when you first join, and a talented setting staff that rotate through the walls, so there's a new segment to try every week. read more

Brought my nieces , nephew and daughter here for a one hour staff belay session. It was nice that they got to alternate and choose where in the gym they wanted to climb. The staff member assisting us also was very helpful. What was really nice was the kids area, where the kids could play in while waiting their turn. My only complaint would be a group of 4 was only given one hour. With a lot of new climbers. That made each person only get two tries at it. read more

This place was extremely cool and very professional. As we walked in the facility was very clean and well organized. The employees walked us through the registration and safety paperwork needing to be looked over and filled out. The walls are color coded and provides a climb that is an easy read path and informs the climber of the hard level. There is a path for all climbers young and old and beginner and expert. This place also has yoga which i wouldn't try but that's only cause I don't do yoga. But the faculty they hold classes looks really cool. Definitely will come back here read more

I've been to the Niagara climbing center and it is a HUGE disappointment when compared to this place. This place is easily twice the size and the walls are MUCH MUCH higher, not to mention the bouldering section. There are all skill levels here from beginner to pro and I LOVE that they are constantly changing walls so there's new routes and challenges every week. The monthly membership seems pricy ($80/month) but if you go once a week, it pays for itself. You'll need to prove that you know how to belay properly and tie yourself in... but once you do, you are pretty much left alone. They're equipment is a little over priced but, you can buy your own online. The staff (particularly the men) are very nice. read more
