We hired them to do a bunch of work on our house. The FIRST AND MAIN thing we hired them to do was work on our front porch stairs. This is the first thing we showed the person who wrote up the quote (by the way, you will never see this guy again) and we told him it was why we called him. This work was not included in the estimate but instead something else about the front porch was listed (we had assumed it meant the stairs because they purposely worded it in a deceitful way). So, AFTER they did the work, they told us it wasn't in the estimate. The main reason we called them wasn't included in the estimate??!!! They also built new stairs from scratch on the side of the house - they didn't include the cost of the materials in the estimate!!!! There was very small reference to not including it and then in BIG RED LETTERS they say all materials are included in the estimate which ended up costing us another $1,500. Deceitful. But they also just built stairs to whatever size they wanted - they're huge and take up half our porch. We called and explained that we showed them the exact size we wanted from another quote we had received. He claimed not to have seen it and was building to code. But smaller stairs would still be to code. And if he really believes we didn't show him the size we wanted, how do you just build stairs for someone without asking what they want??? Another issue is that these guys just show up at random times and random days with no advance notice. Luckily we were working from home due to COVID to be there, but each time, the guys would show up and knock on our door. If we needed to be there, why wouldn't they give us advance notice they're coming. They outsourced some of the work, so some guys showed up to do gutter work and had no idea what they were there for and wanted me to explain it to them. What if I wasn't home? Do not use this company. They looked cheaper than others and now I know why, we ended up paying more than we would have if we went with the other companies we looked at. But, the worst is that they leave you feeling cheated and taken advantage of. Do not use them.

They initially quoted me 4-5 days to paint the exterior of my home, but it ended up taking over a month. Throughout the process, I had to constantly reach out for updates and was even told by my "project manager" to stop reaching out to the office and if I had concerns to reach out to him. After voicing my complaints of the project manager, I was informed that the employee was let go because of the issues I raised. While I appreciate accountability, it shouldn't have taken my frustrations for the company to address their internal problems. Overall, this was an unprofessional and stressful experience. It's disappointing when a company fails to communicate effectively. I was left as a paying customer feeling undervalued and frustrated. I truly do not think this company is best for working families with the lack of urgency displayed by New Haven Painters. I spoke with an absurd amount of people to voice my concerns and still frustrated with this company for the headache they caused me a month later. Update 12/16 - The paint on my back door is peeling. Work ethic - Charlie has what we would call an "old school" work ethic that has been passed down through his family's Italian heritage. He is a consummate professional in every way. 2. Customer service - Charlie clearly recognizes the importance of providing "1st class" customer service. We feel this is one of the areas that sets him apart from other contractors. 3. Project planning - Charlie is not your typical "What do you want? We will do it" contractor. He actively participates in thinking through the project(s) by freely offering his ideas for the best project outcome. For example, we had selected a stone for our fireplace rebuild. Charlie felt that the stone was overly expensive and told us so. Instead, he directed us to an alternative that was more than 40% less expensive and that we liked even better than our original selection. We have never felt that Charlie's goal was to maximize the number of dollars he could earn from our projects. 4. Communication - Many contractors show up initially, scope out the work, turn it over to their workers, and never (or rarely) show up again. We have seen Charlie each day that the work at our home has been proceeding. In addition, our e-mails are usually answered almost immediately, or at worst, by evening of the same day. Face-to-face, Charlie communicates in a very clear manner. No question or concern is treated as "stupid" or "a waste of his time." He makes sure that you understand exactly what work will be done and how it will be done. 5. Scheduling/Timeliness - When Charlie makes commitments to meet with us, he always shows up before the scheduled time. Not only does he value his time, but he also recognizes that his clients have other obligations/commitments. If there is ever a scheduling conflict, Charlie lets you know well in advance. There is no "waiting around or wondering when he will show up." 6. Skilled workers - The people who work for/with Charlie demonstrate the same traits as he does. They are professional, courteous, and extremely respectful of the client's residence/belongings. Most of Charlie's workers have been with him for 10-15 years, and they clearly have a close relationship with him. Their work is meticulous. They speak both English and Spanish fluently. 7. Problem solving - If an issue arises with the ongoing work, Charlie's people always consult with him, even if they know what should be done. Charlie shows up to ensure that any particular issue is resolved to the satisfaction of the client. 8. Pricing - We feel that Charlie's work is reasonably priced. 9.
