After 20 minutes my phone rings unexpectedly and it is the same representative calling me back to tell me exactly what I needed to get! Recommended the brand, the store I should get it from etc. I have never seen anything like this before. He knew I wouldn't be spending money in their store, but STILL took the time to research and then call back to help me out... this is what exceptional customer service looks like! I ended up using the recommended product and it was a wonderful choice. I had to call back and thank them for it and the least I could do is to leave this review for everyone else to know the level of customer support that you get from this place. As neighborhood hardware stores go, this place is the genuine article. They have a wide range of fasteners (sold by the piece, not in poly-bags!), plumbing and electrical items appropriate to the kinds of houses found in the neighborhood, lawn and garden supplies, cleaning supplies, paint and -- most of all -- a very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. (Ooops, I almost forgot to mention a handsome and somewhat aloof Maine coon cat named "Hershey" who protects the lawn and bird seed from mice and provides the store with senior management.) I've been involved in construction and renovation work for many years, and this kind of hardware store is getting difficult to find. ( I was working with a carpenter installing a huge Andersen bay window which is supported by internal wire cables. Atlas True Value had large turnbuckles, 10" through bolts and wire rope clamps all in stock. ) As might be expected, they're a little bit more expensive than the big-box Lowes and Home Depot, but I frequently find they're more economical because I can get first-quality items in the quantity I need and I don't have to spend the time and gas money to go miles when I need something. My only complaint is that they shorten their business hours during the summer months and close a little earlier on Sundays.

I've been in a few times for miscellaneous household projects, and the owner/manager/tall white haired guy that's always there, can always sense when you're looking for something or are in a conundrum. He comes right over and offers his help and direction. And he is so knowledgeable and helpful! I feel like my grandpa is helping me decide which product to use, or teaching me which is best, it's a wonderful little notion. I don't know what his name is yet, but he is a genuine soul, and I love that. They are a paint and blind store, mostly. But they do sell the other odds and ends you'd expect at a small, local hardware store. Some tools and random things you need to get jobs done around the house. Paint, wallpaper, blinds, and painting supplies abound. My favorite thing about Wallpaper City so far (aside from Grandpa) is that they handwrite and add up their receipts! I can't believe it. I haven't seen that in, well, maybe never. It strikes me as the cutest thing ever! Although, in this age, it isn't paper-friendly. Ahh! What the heck, it is cute and makes the transaction feel very personal, I like it a lot. I parked in the back; there's easy access from the back door, which helped, as I was picking up two gallons of stain.
