Having participated in their beginner and intermediate classes, I can say that you will find Erika's advice invaluable. She is a very positive instructor. She will be very specific about what changes you should make to ensure a better shot. The volunteers that assist are also encouraging. Beyond the classes and clubs available, there is also open shooting time. These slots can be reserved online through an easy process and are paid for in person. The cost is approximately $10/hour. The range is bright, clean and cool. There are both recurve and compound bows available for use for a $3 fee (their use is included in the class fees).

I explained that I was a complete newbie, that I had a 5w rod/reel combo and that I was fishing a small pond generally. I asked him to select some flies for me based on the information that I gave him since I didn't know the first thing about selecting flies. He gave me six flies, a box and recommend some extra line. I bought it all at a cost of well over $100. The next day I was told by an experienced fly fisherman that the flies I bought were much to big for my size line. I had no idea. So I wrote to Harry's and explained that I was given the wrong size flies. No one answered my email. Today I went back to Harry's to return the products that I had purchased a few days earlier. (I live over an hour from the store) I asked the same salesperson for a refund. He refused, stating that "It would be too hard to look up." Bottom line, even though I gave the salesperson exactly the information necessary, I was offered and bought over $100 in supplies that I can not possibly use. When I told this to the salesperson today, he just shrugged his shoulders. There is no doubt that I was taken advantage of because I am new to the sport of fly fishing. Vendors like these are predators and should be called out when they do things like this that hurt hard working people who don't have money to throw away. BTW: I am a veteran of the USAF.

This month we ended up at Central Florida archery. We signed up for a 2 person novice lesson. When we got there, they had the equipment ready for us. Our instructor was Mike, and he was great! Mike walked us through how to decide which I is dominant, how to hold a bow, how to shoot, how to aim, and everything we need to get started. Then we got to shooting! The lesson was one hour long. Mike was so good, we both got bullseyes before time was up! We're already talking about planning another day to come out and do this again. It was such a fun experience. They offer lessons from one person up to a group of people. They also allow you to bring your own gear or rent their gear to just come and shoot without doing a lesson. One thing to note: The address will take you to a red gate, which is closed. You have to open the gate to get in (it's just latched) and close it behind yourself before driving down the sandy road to the parking lot.

I came out with my wife for a private shooting instruction, and tried various handguns. There is a membership that is under $400 to start for the year, there are public days here too, and those are days when there is a crowd and you may have to wait a while to shoot. You bring your own gun, ammunition, and targets so you're using your own product. There are some rules that you must obey, or you'll be asked to leave. Bring some earplugs and eyegear whether it's your everyday glasses or some eye protection, as you don't want to suffer temporary deafness or get anything in your eyes. Fun fact, due to the range being rural, you will see some wildlife, whether on the path to the range, or on the range itself. No you can't shoot the wildlife!

The facility is welcoming and spacious, with seating for spectators, refreshments, clean restrooms, a weightlifting and training area in the back, and an excellent pro shop with on-site repair services. Randi (the owner/ coach) is extremely professional and passionate about the sport, prioritizing safety and strongly supporting inclusion, including Paralympic athletes. Actually, l have no outdoor activities planned, but my little neighbor next door strongly encouraged me to go. Inside they have a huge aquarium with some really beautiful fish.
