This is an 80 acre hammock preserve. In the mounds here archeologists have found items evidence of…read morethe Native Ais people who lived in this area for thousands of years before the Spanish came. The Ais were wiped out by disease or were enslaved and sent to Cuba. It is against state law to remove or disturb artifacts. You can pick up a trail map at the kiosk adjacent to the parking lot. The preserve has a one mile trail that takes you through an elm, palm, and oak forest. There is an elevated tower overlook but all you can really see is the tops of trees. The trail goes on to take you through a depression marsh and basin swamp. Plants that have been found on the preserve include hickory, Florida elm, live and laurel oak, and sugar berry. Deer , turkey, ibis, heron, Barred Owl, cardinals, and mockingbirds are some of the wildlife that have been spotted on the preserve. This is a lovely, peaceful preserve filled with butterflies. The trail is natural ground which is not wheelchair accessible but it is an easy hike for most people. The area is very remote and and I didn't have a cell signal for a couple of miles surrounding the preserve. There is no water or bathroom so plan accordingly. The major detractor for me was the amount of flying insects dive bombing my head. I will try again in the winter when the temperature is more conducive to hiking and there is hopefully less insect activity. Rangers occasionally lead hikes which is a wonderful way to see the preserve.

Just make sure you get back to the parking lot before dark because they close the gates at dusk and reopen at dawn. Go on a nice cool day and you wont regret it. No bathroom or water available. George Sebring founded the town of Sebring in Highlands County in 1912. In 1923 pioneer residents Mike and Sadie Kahn moved to town and formed a strong friendship with George Sebring. The couple opened a dry goods store downtown on the ground floor of the Nan-ces-o-wee Hotel on Ridgewood Drive. The Kahn's were Jewish immigrants from Lithuania and they opened the first synagogue in town on land donated by Mr. Sebring. The Kahn's purchased a 20 acre citrus grove asoutheast of Sebring and lived in a home on Old Desoto City Rd.Mike passed away unexpectedly at the age of 52 and Sadie took over the management of the groves eventually dividing them among her children. In 1980 the Sadie Kahn Memorial Park was named by the city. Located near Nan-ces-o-wee Hotel, the park was damaged during the hotel demolition. The Community Redevelopment Agency spearheaded a redesign and it was rededicated during Sebring's centennial in 2012..For the centennial celebration Kenneth Treister designed the parks centennial sculptures ,benches. and the mural of the Kahn's and their citrus orchard. In 2013 Mike and Sadie Khan's son Marvin and his wife Elsa Kahn deeded the property known as Sadie Kahn Memorial Park to the City on June 7, 2013. During his long career as a citrus grower Marvin Kahn fought for growers' property rights, practiced and advocated for water management, and served as a community booster. He was inducted into the Florida Citrus Hall of Fame in 2018.

Lacking maintenance! On a week long tour of ranges, and this did not stack up to any of the others…read more No introduction to the facility or courses like the other 3 ranges we visited. Multiple stands empty of clays, spent shells on a good portion of the stands, staff; well instead of congregating they could have been maintaining the equipment. Golf carts not maintained and dirty with leaves and empty water bottles. Check in staff member misrepresented the courses in actual relation to shooting style. Kinda lack luster in appearance as well. There are better options and not far away either!
