My kids' pediatrician referred them to Dr. Anbar to treat some mild anxiety. Dr. Anbar uses hypnosis to help people with conditions that either haven't responded to medicine, or for when you want to avoid using medicine. He treats conditions ranging from IBS to veggie aversion to depression. Hypnosis doesn't mean he swings a watch in front of your face and tells you to act like a chicken. He teaches you how to go into a deep state of concentration, which you can then access easily through training. In the last session, he had my daughter visualize a place where she could relax. The sights, the smells, sounds, etc. She spent a lot of time relaxing and picturing the "happy place." She also had to pick a gesture that she would link to the place (she chose thumbs up), so from now on, when she does a thumbs up, she will be taken back to that meditative state. It's been very effective, with daily practice. Last night, for example, she had trouble getting to sleep. Where before she would keep herself up with anxieties, she was able to employ her relaxation methods. read more

We were referred to Dr Anbar by my daughter's neurologist at CHOC. We adopted her as an older child (12 years old) from foster care. She experienced severe trauma & abuse with birth mom. She has PTSD with years of sleep deprivation/interruption from horrible nightmares that make her re-live her trauma. Her neurologist, who is a sleep specialist, recommended we see Dr Anbar. He is a pediatric pulmonologist that specializes in hypnosis. Because my daughter's abuse is so severe, Dr Anbar started slowly with her, so as not to re-traumatized her any further. The results are slow but steady. Dr Anbar is kind, gentle and compassionate. We drive down from Orange County every other week. My son saw Dr. Anbar after his pediatrician recommended him because of his fear of trying new foods. We tried lots of other things and had seen a nutritionist and a psychologist that specialized in eating disorders over the years but, nothing really worked. Since Dr. Anbar is a M.D. and insurance covers the visits, we immediately made an appointment. Dr. Anbar is a great man and you see it from the very first visit. He doesn't just do hypnosis on patients, he teaches it. My son now has the tools and can self hypnos himself when he's having anxiety about any issue-not just food issues. This is a huge skill to have in life for anyone who has anxiety about anything. Over the course of a 4 months with sometimes weekly appointments and sometimes bi-weekly appointments, my son made the most improvement that he's ever made. In the end, my son has to make the food choices and the choice of whether he wants to try new foods. But, when he does try a new food he seems A LOT calmer about it. I'm thankful for the headway that we've gained in such a short period of time. I've realized that I can't expect someone to change completely over night after years of anxiety about food. My 17-year old son has been working with Dr. Anbar for several months. We were referred to him by my son's primary care provider at the time. From the first session, they had great rapport and my son actually wanted to participate in counseling. We are so happy we found Dr. Anbar. My child was suffering from anxiety brought on by a new medical diagnosis. It got so bad he could not sleep. Dr. Anbar is one of the best doctors I have ever had the pleasure of getting to know (I've known a lot of doctors.) Whether it is, depression, anxiety, coping with a disease or just straight up loneliness and in need of a friend. He can help with it all! The fact that he has an extensive medical background with diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis, is a huge reason why I decided to start seeing him for counseling sessions. He can relate to people living with a disease better than anyone I know, I see him more as a friend than a counselor now. I took my daughter to Center Point Medicine for anxiety and phobias. I wasn't sure what to expect, having never experienced hypnotherapy before, but I thought we would try it because traditional therapy wasn't helping.
