I'm so embarrassed it has taken me this long to write a review, when in fact Dr. D's amazing reviews were the reason we went with her! We had a pediatrician picked out prior to delivery (9 months ago), but after my c section they mentioned that the dr we chose was no longer taking new patients.. so they scheduled us a pediatrician. After our sons first check up (with the assigned Dr) a few days after we left the hospital, I had that new motherly gut instinct that this was not the dr, nor the office I wanted to bring my child to for the next 10 years. I went on yelp to find a Dr. immediately after that appointment and came across Carmel Valley Pediatrics. Our first appointment with Dr. D was amazing. She was so sweet, nurturing and really made me feel comfortable as a new mom! She always has time for questions, and as new parents we ask tons of dumb questions and she's always is so sweet and so helpful and makes us feel so supported. I can not say enough good things about her and the other ladies in the office. I get so excited to go in and visit them! Not to mention my little guy loves the office, the staff and Dr. D. Dr. de Freitas is very patient with you. She is very knowledgeable and will answer all of your questions. Being new parents, we had plenty of questions and they took the time to answer all of them without it feeling like we were wasting their time. Dr. de Freitas said it was preferred for us to schedule the late morning appointments so we could get all of our questions answered, they would just work into their lunch hour and not impact other appointments. The staff is very nice and helpful. Dr. De Freitas visited us every day in the hospital (4 days) when our baby was born to do her daily health checks. They also have an email service, so if you have less urgent questions you can send them in and the doctors will answer them within 24 hours. They are partnered with El Camino Pediatrics in Encinitas, so there is always someone available after hours. read more

Shes been with us through it all after two girls 18 months apart Ive gone in so many times for illnesses, breastfeeding problems, checkups, vaccines...called on weekends for emergencies, call to bug about my silly questions... they are always 5 stars! I found her on Yelp when I was about to have my first daughter and now she's been our doctor with our second daughter as well - she's been an incredible support system , more than she knows. My daughter was born in 2007 and back then after interviewing different pediatricians, chose Dr. De Freitas. We couldn't have had made a better decision! She is outstanding and we have only good things to say about her. Dr. De Freitas is very calm, caring and extraordinarily knowledgeable. She always take her time to explain even small concerns that we may have about our daughter, and she makes me feel like my kid is the only patient she is seeing all day. We trust her completely. If we have a small concern about my daughter's health, (another day for example she had a small rash on her skin) we emailed Dr. De Freitas a small description of what we saw and a picture (if the case) and she got back to us as soon as possible. She ALWAYS makes herself easily accessible for her patients :) If she thinks it is something serious she asks us to come in, if not, she just says what it is and advises us how to treat it. On the example above, it was only dry skin and as soon as I started using a different moisturizer my daughter's skin quickly improved. Finally, and most importantly, my daughter loves her! We love this place! All 4 of our children have been here from our eldest daughter, to our youngest 6 y/o son. They have all seen the best Pediatrician in the world, Dr. Victor Lipp. Our eldest have moved to adult doctors, but our 6 & 12 y/o kiddos love him still! He is thorough and outstanding with our kiddos. He always has them smiling during their visits. The great thing about this Pediatric Office is when Dr. Lipp is unavailable our kiddos are ok with the other Pediatricians too! If you're looking for a great Pediatrician check out this office. I drive from north county to bring my 7 year old to Dr. Defritas. She has being his doctor since he was born. If you are looking for a peditritian that cares this is the place. At one point I tried to find a Ped closer to home, but I was never able to find anithing that slighly compares to Carmel Valley. read more

We have been seeing Dr. DeFrietas for years despite the location not being convenient for us because we loved the staff and the doctors here. However, it appears they have now merged with a larger group and all the bookings are handled by a central office. I was on hold for 35 minutes today and ended up giving up and taking my son to an urgent care. That is simply not acceptable. I feel you should be able to call your doctor and have someone in the office pick up the phone to answer your questions. So sad about this but we're now looking for a new doctor. read more

Being first time parents, it was important to us that our son receive the best possible care available, and so after many searches and reviews read, we settled on Dr. de Freitas. The doctor has helped with a few non medical issues as far as sleep training and bottle weaning so two stars are being given for the practical and useful advice. However, after a year of being with this practice we are now seeking a new doctor. The visit today was very unpleasant and unsettling as the level of care and attention to detail Dr de Freitas provided is bordering on negligence. Today, the doctor gave incorrect information regarding the proper diagnosis and treatment of our son. The appointment was for our son to have his eczema looked at and the doctor couldn't tell exactly what it was and just wanted to prescribe different creams and ointments in hopes of one working. The doctor thought it looked like ringworm and wanted to prescribe two different creams and said there were no tests she could do; that the only option was to try and treat it. After minimal research, we found that it is possible to test for ringworm, and believe that the doctor just didn't want to waste her time and would rather prescribe something. As parents, there is nothing worse than being lied to by your pediatrician; there is a great degree of trust necessary to have a medical professional treat your little one and having that trust shaken is jarring. We expect the utmost care for our son and did not get that here. If that were not bad enough, at the end of the appointment the doctor said she didn't have the patience to try and figure out how her own office staff filled out our sons vaccination card incorrectly, so she was going to mail it to us when she got around to it. We have experienced a number of clerical errors with our sons medical record working with Dr. de Freitas' staff and are afraid that our son may be getting treatments he already had or doesn't need given their mishaps. The doctor was asked about a medical exemption for vaccination during our most recent visit, which was met with a blanket no without a care for our family medical history. The doctor mentioned that flu symptoms and rashes after his vaccination shots weren't excusable. It is our hope that this review reaches Dr de Freitas and provides some much needed feedback about bedside manner and the Hippocratic oath that was taken; many concerns have been undermined and our son is always seen in a rush; that is not the way new parents wants to feel. It is our sincere hope that you take this in a constructive way and make some changes. read more

This clinic is really great in all aspects: super organized, friendly care, and quick! Their office is in a really convenient location right off of el camino real and near the highlands shopping center so you can run all your errands in one go. Dr. De Freitas is experienced, professional, and extremely nice and I'm happy I've been going to her for 6 years, she's great! I used to live in del mar and started using dr de dreitas when I had my first baby 6 yrs ago. I now and two and live in carlsbad and still make the hike because we love her. Aside from being incredibly professional and bright, she has an amazing way w my girls. She is able to get them to do things that I can't. We have been with Carmel Valley Pediatrics for a year now with our one year old daughter. We LOVE Dr. De Freitas and cannot say enough good things! SUPER easy to get appointments, they're always on time with her appointments, she is very detailed in their check ups and never makes me feel silly for bringing my baby in when I am just un-sure if she has a cold or what could be wrong (I am a new mom). All the staff is friendly and helpful there! We have zero complaints and recommend them to all of our friends having new babies. Plus my daughter is weary of new people and always loves Dr. De Freitas! OMG, the doctors are incredible! I am a mom of two, and I will stick with Dr. DeFreitas until my kids are grown. I never have to wait longer than 15 minutes to get in, and the doctor is very considerate and attentive. She never made me rush through the appointments and answers all my questions carefully. As a mom of a pre-teen daughter, I also appreciate the fact that Dr. DeFreitas wrote the book on the subject of sexual education for teenagers and teaches a class that the girls can attend with their mothers. As business grows, they care less of the patients. Typically, we had to wait 15-30 minutes before seeing the doctor. We were late by 15 minutes last time due to traffic, then I was told with the attitude to make another appointment. The doctor is just so-so, why bother? read more

I felt like the primary pediatrician there was talking down to me a lot. I endured it for a year and a half and moved on. I was always nervous to go in because I felt like I was being lectured. I'm much happier where I go now at Children's Primary Care Medical Group on the 2nd floor of the same building. The doctors are cheery and entertaining and the visits are as pleasant as can be expected when small children need vaccinations.
