Instead of finding that, I found a practitioner who embodies the attitudes that perpetuate the inequalities of the contemporary healthcare industry. Additionally, her paperwork system is concerning from a liability standpoint. Went in to get acupuncture for ADHD and gut issues. Maura missed my call, and did not call back until the late evening that day. She did not take down my info, and did not provide her email. Instead, she asked me to use the email link on her website so that she could email me the intake forms. The link did not work, and I attempted to contact her about the issue, but had no response. On the morning of my appointment, I got a text from her asking for the email. if she can text me, I assume she has the technological capability to take down my email and send me my forms myself. she finally sent me the email, which was very informal. we had discussed payment previously, and was left with the impression that I could pay with a debit card. the acupuncture was fine. I have had multiple practitioners, and she's competent. but, she was very cold, adrupt, and unwelcoming. after the session, she told me to leave the money or check in the bowl, and I apologized for the misunderstanding. I went to find cash, which took about 10 minutes due to the location of the nearest ATM. afterwards, I gave her the cash, and she was upset with me for keeping her so late, and said I needed to read better. She was treating me for ADHD, which is a lack of executive function. as a result, I struggle with coordinating things, and can miss the small details. her rude dismissal of me and my condition completely erased any of the benefits the session. So, I paid $125 for Maura to make me feel bad about myself. read more

Maura was direct in her questions, and spot on with advise during my pregnancy induced gestational diabetes and worsening hypertension and suggestion from my doctors to induce at 37 week. Based on my medical needs she addressed both my hypertension and gestational diabetes and was able to provide my body with the first step and signals towards inducing all with acupuncture. I went to see Maura for starting the "medically necessary high risk" labor induction process. Acupuncture was my preferred method. Maura saw me on short notice for a piercing, shooting shoulder and arm pain in mid-March. I had to wait for 3 weeks to see the orthopedic and did not want to pop ibuprofen everyday. I saw Maura twice, a week apart and the first treatment relieved pain for 3 days. The 2nd treatment reduced the pain from like a 6/7 to a 2/3 the next 3 weeks in time to see the orthopedic. The doctor and eventual physical therapist were glad to know that I took active steps to help relieve the pain. I chose Maura since I live in JP and wanted to find a good acupuncturist that is local. I saw Maura for a pinched nerve. I believe she is the reason my nerve started improving. Her approach was no nonsense, which I really appreciated. My treatment included lying down on a table, being covered with blankets, and having a heat lamp put on me (as I had reported I run cold rather than hot). Needles were inserted (that didn't hurt at all), she put on a birdsong CD, then left me to dream away for about 30 minutes. It couldn't get any better than that! I did 3 treatments. I hate to give Maura a bad review, but my experience was not great here. Maura's treatments did help my issue, but the environment was not what you expect from an acupuncture place. First, there are mutliple rooms and no white noise machines so you can hear everyone's sessions (questions and answers and issues), which means everyone can hear yours as well. Second, Maura would place the needles and then leave me for about an hour. The first time this happened, I waited a while and then took them out myself (she was not happy with this). She told me to yell for her next time if she forgot to come get me. The second time, I yelled for her. After four or five yells, each louder than the last, and no answer from her, I got up and went to the door to get her (I didn't take the needles out because she had told me not to). When she finally came in, she was angry that I had gotten up and some needles had fallen out on the floor. I explained what happened but she still seemed annoyed. The final thing that really put me off this place was how noisy it was. If you're in the front room you have a semi-busy street a few feet from your head so there is constant noise from cars, trucks, and pedestrians. There was also a lot of noise from people waiting in the hall, including laughing, yelling, and something heavy being dropped and completely jolitng me from my attempt at relaxing. When I mentioned this to Maura, she said the music she plays drowns out the noises (it didn't at all). Again, I hate to give this review but it was not the relaxing experience I have had at other acupuncture places, nor did I ever get the feeling that she really cared about helping me or showing me any empathy. I was also always taken late and my appointments ran much longer than I was told, so it was impossible to schedule anything afterwards. I have been to places before this and after and had nothing even close to this experience. read more
