I've driven by this ice cream shop many times and decided to try it out today. I got one scoop of cookie dough, and one scoop of what she called a chocolate with chocolate peanut butter cup. The cookie dough one was delicious! The other one not so much, I didn't taste any peanut butter cups and the chocolate wasn't very chocolatey at all, I would not order that one again. Seriously fantastic ice cream. The place is a small shop off the main road and very inconspicuous. Once you get inside you are greeted warmly by the staff and they help you with any questions and give you samples you request. We got the See and Bee (Salted Honey), Birthday cake and Buttered Pecan. I finally got to stop in and taste Celtic Creamery's wonderful ice cream! This ice cream parlor is delightful! There are delicious sweet baked treats available in addition to their delicious frozen yummies, and they evidently bake their own waffle cones (the aroma alone was magical), but today it was fresh, cold ice cream that we craved. I had Cake Batter in a cup (will get a cone next time), and their Vanilla, which was anything but plain. Cake Batter tastes as delicious as the mixture mom let you lick from the mixer beaters as a child, only it's- well, frozen. We liked it so much that we bought a pint to take home. Great shop for a quick snack or sweet craving. We will be back soon to try more of their luscious flavors. Highly recommend! read more

Too bad no sidewalks from the area subdivisions. Hwy 210 can get busy out of Smithfield, making it difficult for a left hand turn to head back towards McGees. Cash is king, or you'll have card fees added to your bill. Mini donuts not impressive. Young girl manning it looked as if she was bored, or not interested. Even with the owner right there. The donuts resembled hush puppies. Decided not to try them this visit. We did enjoy a chocolate chip cookie, which was good. The coconut ice cream was delish, not overpowering. We tried Celtic Creamery's Smithfield location on a hot, muggy mid-June afternoon. Know before you go that there is limited parking and the layout of the very small store leaves much to be desired, with 3 very tiny tables crammed along one wall. We both tried one scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone. The waffle cone was crispy, obviously fresh, and had a good flavor; it was well worth the $1.25 upcharge. The Scumpbumptious Strawberry and the Heavenly Heath were OK, but certainly nothing exceptional. However, we both noted that the ice cream clearly had a gummy texture. Maybe ice cream from the west coast of Ireland is supposed to be a bit gummy? I dunno. Regardless, neither of us cared for it. As others have noted, Celtic Creamery adds on a service charge (4% for ApplePay), if you aren't paying with cash. Businesses need to be upfront and honest about their practices. There was no mention of a service charge until the transaction had been processed, however Celtic Creamery was not shy about asking for a generous tip. read more

Well, you get rick-rolled at checkout if you use a debit card. The price is not displayed on the register until the clerk asks if you are using cash or card because they pass the card fees onto the customer which is complete BS in the modern world of EFT transactions being the norm instead of using cash. Depending on how you pay will dictate what they display on the register...for 2021 this is really unacceptable. I can hit any number of numerous small businesses in downtown Smithfield and not be hit with a service fee for using my debit card. We've been several times now and it took us until our third visit to realize what was happening. Good ice cream but, not good business. Shame on them. read more

Only downfall is the layout of the store. It's awkward. They can only really comfortably serve one group of customers at a time. This place is disgusting and for your own sake don't eat here. Twice now I have been given ice cream that has had hair in it this time there was ton of hair enough to stop a drain it literally look like someone did it on purpose. Then I dig into cream and there's more in middle of never been more disgusted in my life but it gets better. From the moment we walked into the building my wife and I were greeted with a "Happy Saturday!" from Paige (The Owner I'm Guessing) and the other lady working there. As Paige, my wife, and I talked we were made to feel as if were a 'regular' to the place. It felt like I was being taken care of like family. The shakes we ordered did not disappoint either. I am sure you will NEVER have a creamier ice cream than what they serve. Paige made sure the place was clean and inviting. If I had to pick something that could be better it would be the size of the parking lot. I have driven by and seen it packed on multiple occasions.
