He then installed my hard drive into the replacement machine. When he was finished it was BETTER than then before! The screen was "mirror clear," no scratches, the speakers worked again and the mouse pad was smooth! FYI: shortly after 2015 many laptop developers did away with hard drives in order to migrate users to "the Cloud," thus creating customers billed monthly for back-up data storage. Having had the thing for 6 years I figured a funeral was in order, but before that I decided to see if anyone could resuscitate the old beast. Enter Computer Wizard... an at home operation of a young guy named Dale who is passionate about helping people just get back to their electronic social lives, or I have heard he even can help people create their own computer works of genius. Having no idea what the hell was wrong with my computer. It was WAY past my mere level one comprehension of any and all IT issues... I give Dale a call and he said, "Sure! Bring it over!" He was really professional had us sign a couple forms and explained his diagnostics process and then we were on our way. He in no way made us feel inferior or technologically unintelligent .. (although we probably are). Dale tries to stock up on parts during really good sales, which saves US money in the end, so he ended up installing a HUGE new Hard-drive to replace my failing old one for a fair amount and after diagnostics and all that jazz... my bill was cheaper than most repair places would charge. Also, he runs deals here and there (Like on YELP!), so keep an eye out. It may save you some extra dough. My computer was ready to go after a couple of days.. although I wasn't able to pick it up until the weekend, but it's working like new and he was able to save the 6 years of files I had on there from wedding pictures, to artwork files... to my music library! My HD wouldn't load up, it went into a loop (a Microsoft StopCode error that causes it to reboot…read moreconstantly). Basically I installed software that was interfering with normal boot up. I wanted a new hard drive anyway, so I removed the drive and put it into a casing that allowed me to use it as an external HD. BitLocker requested a recovery key in order to do this and I just couldn't seem to do it. I just need the files available on "Desktop, Downloads, and My Pictures" less than 500Mb of data. The Bitlocker Code (recovery key) was included in the shipment that I sent to see if these guys could do it for me. ... with the recovery key, it is a simple enough process but for some reason, my laptop just would't do it (timed out at 75% before finishing). Secure Data Services wanted to charge me $2300 to do this!!! I was SHOCKED!!! Now if you know tech, this is way too much to unlock a drive with the recovery code that I've already supplied. Google the steps for yourself. "Unlock a Drive with BitLocker Recovery Key" or "fix MS StopCode error" on YouTube. It's NOT rocket science, I just thought a couple hundred would save me the time and trouble. BIG MISTAKE! The charge 28.95 to get your HDD sent back, what a waste of time for basically what could be called "extortion" at worst and a complete "ripoff" at best. I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU USE THEIR SERVICES.
