Used for our 15 day trip to Italy and Greece - was wonderful - loved that they mailed to me ahead of time, so much easier then trying to find stall at airport. Only issues was that I expected to be able to connect more then 5 units, and one day in Malta was not working even though we had bars on our cell phones. but filled out online form and they reset things and all was working within an hour. read more

I would give them negative stars if I could. Do NOT use this company. I was left stranded in South Africa with no service and their customer service department asked me if I read directions. Are you kidding me?! You're going to blame me on first mention for not using the phone properly? I used everything as it said to do and was left alone at night with no phone - two days in a row. I had to spend more money for another service and a car with a driver to feel safe for the rest of my vacation, not to mention the broken charger they sent me with this useless phone. STAY AWAY! I'm not kidding. Just don't do it. I got one of their MiFi units for a work-related trip to Mexico City, and one day into the trip, the device wasn't working at all. First my Internet slowed down, then the device told me I was almost halfway through my daily allotment of 1 GB (there's no possible way--all I was doing was checking my email, using whatsapp, and googling things). Then the unit just wouldn't connect to any local network. To make matters much worse, the "customer support" staff were incredibly rude to me. Rather than answering my questions about why my data usage was skewed or how I could get a faster speed, they lectured me about how Cello was a better company than all its competitors. Then, when I said, "If you can't get this device working, I'll expect a full refund," they very randomly canceled the entire service, without doing any troubleshooting. I've never had such a fruitless and insulting experience with a customer service team in my life. read more

Great (when service was working) We decided to rent the Cello Mobile Wi-Fi hotpot for our trip to Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Slovenia. We took the Unlimited Pro package as we knew we'd be using Wi-Fi a fair bit as we were driving from country to country. It worked pretty well for parts of it. I say only partially because as soon as we left any city and were driving on the roads between the towns the connection would often fail. Frustrating because we were using it so we could use our GPS apps on our phone and when it failed it was worrisome. Fortunately the car we rented had a mediocre GPS so that supplemented when needed. The other really frustrating part was that the device would be working and then all of a sudden stop. A quick reset would do the trick but this was still a bit annoying. Shipping was also more than i thought. It was shipping from NY State to NJ and they charged $20.00. I thought that was a bit much. Other than those things we were relatively happy with the device. The return process was super easy - just had to ship it back to them (though this did cost me another $10) and once they received it, they processed my deposit return quite quickly. I did deal with customer service briefly and they were wonderful. Really helpful and attentive. I may next time try just getting a local sim card for our phones and add a cheap plan and then hotspot when required but that may end up to be more costly when you have multiple devices. read more

Rented a device from Cello Mobile for a trip to Sri Lanka. Front end service was great. I realized that T-Mobile (my cell provider) had sold me a hotspot that didn't work outside the USA after I'd already started my trip. Cello Mobile couriered me a hotspot quickly so I wouldn't be out an internet connection (I run a small consultancy so need to always be connected). Although their device found 2 networks where I was staying in Sri Lanka, both with 3G, I was never able to send or receive an email using this device. So, I was out almost $400 (cost to rent, cost to courier and then cost to fedex back) and wasn't able to use it at all. I knew it was going to be dicey -- but I am surprised at how poor this service was. I've used hotspots before and on a 3G network, I'd expect it to be relatively slow but at least be able to send and receive simple emails with no attachments. I explained these issues and was offered no refund -- partial or full. Very disappointed. read more

"Cello Mobile support was totally useless in help for my MIFI unit when I was in Asia. I rented the unit for 21 days and the unit did not work. I spent about 295 expecting to get my own personal hotspot but the unit would not connect to any off the carriers in Japan, Korea or China. Since I was 12 hours ahead, their support hours did not coincide to place calls for support. I asked them to send an e-mail detailing how the unit should be set up but received absolutely no help. Luckily I was able to get a local prepaid sim card in the areas I was travelling. The unit was not set up properly when it was shipped and I could get no help to correct the matter. I just got ripped off for $295 . I definitely would not recommend renting from them. I rented Cello Mobile's wifi hotspot on my euro trip this time (London, Florence & Rome). I'd say the overall experience is pretty positive. Sometimes it doesn't get good signal inside certain hotels but that's understandable (and hotels have wifi anyways). There are a few occasions I needed to restart the device, but overall it provided very good signal and speed, no complaints. I'd use it again next time I travel to Europe. read more

I bought a sim card from Cello with unlimited data and sms for my trip to Germany this fall. I researched a lot of different options, but the sim from Cello met my needs best. I loved not having to worry about going over on data usage, and the rate for calls to the USA was competitive. Their customer support was very helpful and responsive, and they provided helpful info on international calling and installing the sim in my phone. Sim arrived on time. This option was a little more expensive than others out there, but the peace of mind knowing I wasn't going to get hit with tons of charges after the fact was totally worth it. And now I have a sim I can use on my next trip to Europe. read more

This is one of those cases where I'm rating CelloMobile as "one star" simply because this website does not allow a rating of NO stars.... Let me say from the start that in the end CelloMobile did refund all of the money I paid -- but that's very little comfort when you are overseas; need to use a phone; have paid a bunch of money for a phone; and that phone "works" but does not allow access! In short: The CelloMobile phone I rented did NOT work as promised, and their Customer Service was abysmal. Here's my story: It was unfortunate, but I needed to take care of some work while I was on vacation in Costa Rica. To deal with this circumstance I decided to rent an international calling phone from CelloMobile, and paid what I considered to be quite a bit of money --$25/day-- for a smartphone, with a spare battery pack, which would also serve as a WiFi hot-spot. I needed to be in touch for business via phone and email, so the phone was to provide access to the internet, apps, and phone service. This is what I needed, it's what the CelloMobile website promised, and what I expected. My problems began immediately upon arrival. The phone was supposed to be able to access any of the cell networks in Costa Rica, and be able to function on these networks as an internet hot-spot. The phone provided to me by CelloMobile regularly showed 4 bars of coverage (4G), and it detected 3 networks (CLARO, MovieStar, I.C.E.) but it refused to connect to any of them -- either giving an error message that the SIM card does not allow connections to the network (Moviestar, ICE), or that service is not available (CLARO)..... On some occasions, after repeated manual restarts/resets it would sometimes connect to CLARO, but never once did it connect to any other network -- nor did it ever provide access as a WiFi hot spot. I would understand that coverage might be a bit sketchy when we were travelling through more out of the way places in Costa Rica -- but the phone didn't even work when I was obviously in covered areas. Example: I was in a restaurant in Jaco, one of the busiest tourism spots on the pacific coast. Everywhere around me everyone else is using their cell phones -- for calls AND data. The CelloMobile phone showed coverage, but refused to connect. From the very first day when I discovered problems, I contacted CelloMobile (which was difficult since MY PHONE DIDN'T WORK). I repeatedly called and emailed --I spent HOURS dealing with these phone problems-- and as the week wore on not only has CelloMobile NOT fixed the problems, my service has got even worse. These issues kept me from completing the work I needed to accomplish, and it put somewhat of a damper on my vacation. The fact that the phone & data service that CelloMobile sold me was non-existent is appalling. But even worse is that CelloMobile Support represents what is perhaps the worst customer service I think I have ever experienced anywhere. Their supposed 24 hour support does not exist. They regularly close early, and take days off... When I could get them on the phone all they ever said was that they 'started a ticket' and sent an inquiry to the Costa Rice network carriers; but there was never a reply to my repeated emails to the CelloMobile support & tech staffs. A gal from their billing department did email back with profuse apologies and promises to refund my money, but that really wasn't much help when I'm sitting in Costa Rica and need to communicate for a job. All in All, a terrible experience. Final Note: When I first researched what rental cell phone & WiFi services were available in Costa Rica I found several comments online suggesting it's better to use a local company there in the country. I only found one outfit which had smartphone / hot-spots available -- "Cellular Connections". I emailed and called them to try and set up a rental, but unfortunately they didn't get back to me for five days, and by that time I had given up hope and rented from CelloMobile. There's no way to know how that would have worked out, but it certainly couldn't have been worse.... read more

The unit works flawlessly in China and in Hong Kong. We had to go back and forth between the two locations couple of times and there were NO problem. All our WiFi needs were met. Received the unit couple of days before the trip as promised. It also came with outlet adapters for Asia! The return process was a snap. A MUST WHEN TRAVELING TO EUROPE FROM THE US. This is my first time traveling to Europe with a WIFI Hotshopt. I have tried to use international data plans and Sim cards and there were always glitches when i got to Europe to use them or the cost was so high for what you got it didnt make sense. Cello gives you 1GB a day to use. I never got close to that, with my wifi calling to the us, gps navigation and even watching you tube travel videos on the go. I hear if you go over 1gb they will send you a message to limit useage. other company's i read about will throttle you down once you hit 350mb. the return process was easy as long as you get the return postage when you order it. all in all i feel this is a must for short term travelers going to Europe read more

We used this mifi for a trip to the British Virgin Islands. At first we could not get anything to work...took a few days to get it sorted out, but the customer service was most helpful. I rented the Huawei Mifi for my trip to Ireland. As I traveled around Ireland, I often got "No Service" or 2G service, which meant that most of my apps wouldn't work. Thank goodness our tour bus had wifi capabilities. I even had "No Service" in Dublin, Ireland which is the largest city. This was the most useless mobile hotspot I have ever rented. Poor coverage areas and poor speeds. Very unhappy with this rental. read more

Rented a mobile wifi hotspot for my recent trip to New Zealand. I mainly wanted to use it for using my mobile for local navigation and browsing. The first time I logged in the unit provided a signal, but messages kept popping up telling me I was out of data and had to subscribe to a local plan. I contacted Cello and after awhile they texted me telling me that they had fixed the problem. Initially, they seemed baffled by the problem and made me feel guilty that I was doing something wrong. Eventually, I was able to text via wifi but no browsing. When turning the machine on again in another location, the problem recurred. It recurred every time I turned it on at another location. It was exasperating. I would not rent one again, at least not in New Zealand. I felt like it was a total waste of time, effort and money. read more

My family (four of us) just came back from an unforgettable tour of three countries in 12 days. The countries were Greece (Athens, Delphi and the Santorini islands), Croatia (long drive and stop over along the Adriatic at Dubrovnik, Split and Rijeka) and Italy (Trieste, Venice, Florence and Rome). This mobile Wi-fi was everything we could hope for. We drove at all of these places, and without it, navigating around would have been almost impossible. Yes, on one occasion because four of us were using it throughout the day, we crossed I Gb. I was scared if the Google Map would work so that I could drive to our destination- a hotel in Athens. Even then, the internet worked and we safely got back to the hotel. Cannot say enough about this device, and cello Mobile will obviously be in my mind in my/ our next travel. PS. Rented a wifi hotspot and a basic phone for an Ireland trip. We traveled through the west, south and middle of country and they worked great. Phone came with a UK number but Cello will provide you with an Ireland number also (you'll want that for receiving calls). Both chargers came with adapters for Ireland receptacles. Customer service is terrific. Had a couple of questions before renting and they were quick to respond. Had a question on the trip and again quick to respond. Renting before we left worked out great. Didn't need to waste vacation time in cellular stores. read more

Enabled communications via "on line" voice and data alternatives using the Cello provided MiFi (Pocket WIFI) unit only. Horrible! Stay away, adapter missing for kit, contacted company was promised a $10 credit , never got anything. They asked me to buy an adapter and to include the bill when i return the device, then claimed they never got the bill. I send them a copy and they still refused. I received the phone in great shape. It worked flawlessly all through my travel and I never worried about running out of time or data. I rented a smart phone from Cello Mobile while traveling in Australia. I wanted it primarily for emergencies, as I'd have a rental car and would be driving several hours outside of Sydney. It was a last-minute order, but the phone arrived before I left, complete with the appropriate adapter, charger, and fanny pack. I had several questions about the phone before I traveled and a few after I received it, and all were answered fairly quickly by e-mail. I ended up using the phone several times to call local relatives who I was going to visit as well as looking for nearby places to eat. I bought a phone from Cellomobile about 5 or 6 years ago to use while traveling internationally . I used it very infrequently, just for emergencies. I also had about $30 pre-payment for calls made. I tried to use the phone a few months ago but got an "Invalid SIM" message. I thought it was just because it didn't work in the country we were in. In preparation for my next trip, I tested the phone at home and again, the "Invalid SIM" message. I called customer service and they could not find any record of my account or the money put aside in reserve. I would have to buy another SIM card for $40. Apparently if you don't use the phone every year, you loose your account. At no time was I told this when I bought my phone nor is it written anywhere in the 4 page instructions that came with the phone. The phone did work well when I did use it, hence the 2 stars and not 1, but in retrospect, it cost me about $120 to use the phone 3 or 4 times and would have to pay another $40 plus a reserve to use it again. I have since found a better way to make international calls. read more

This was the best way to take a smart phone to Germany. The phone was shipped to us 72 hours before we left and placed on airplane mode. We used our wifi to load mail and all the apps we would need when we were overseas. The phone worked perfectly and was significantly cheaper than any other way we have tried (data plans, etc). Even in the more remote areas Cello Mobile came through and I had high speed access when I needed it most. Be aware that some plans do restrict daily high speed use so upgrade if this is a factor. Everything you need arrives at your doorstep in a timely manner and return is just as easy and efficient. Rented a MiFi device from Cell Mobile for 10 days to use in the British Virgin Islands (BVI). It worked great throughout at 4G/LTE speeds. It was roaming on the LIME network in the BVI. Cello Mobile sent a Huawei MiFi modem to my home address 3-4 days before my travels with the instructions. The only draw back is that they said not to turn on the device while in the USA (or your home country) and only Power ON the device once you get to to your destination. Else the device may 'roam' on your home network (e.g. AT&T) and incur roaming charges on AT&T - while at the destination (e.g. BVI) it will connect to the Home network (e.g LIME) and you pay the local charges mentioned by Cello Mobile. Well - as a result, I had no idea if the device would even Power up, or was even functional before I departed. There was no way of testing it while at home. Thankfully it worked fine and flawlessly in the BVI. The instructions were clear and concise and I did not have a problem setting it up or configuring it. They had mentioned that the device may try to connect to the CCT BVI with whom they dont have a roaming agreement. If so - they had provided instructions on how to get into the admin settings and manually select the LIME or Digicel network. Thats exactly what happened and I was able to follow the instructions, log-in as an admin to the device and manually select the LIME network. Overall very happy with the service provided by Cello Mobile. Very competitive pricing as well as good prompt customer support. read more

Ordered a hotspot for international travel. The service worked great BUT, do not believe their claims of "unlimited" internet. I received numerous nasty emails from CelloMobile when I went over their cap of 1GB a day. They threatened to cutoff my service (not just throttle the speeds). To respond to Cello Mobile's response (which is only the 2nd thoughtful response that I've received...could it be because it's public?): No I didn't spend much time TRYING to call you. Firstly, I rarely had consistent enough reception to feel I could speak at length as a service call would take. If you'll note that YES - we did have service but until the last 3 days it was rare that the service was not "in and out." For the most part we used the telephone for reservations or to check in at our b&b. Occasionally we would have reception but maybe your vacations are different than ours: We literally GO from about 7 a.m. to 11:30-12 a.m. Most of that is driving or spent on activities. It's had to place calls during owl encounters or ATV rides or loch boat trips....if it's not easy, it's probably not going to get done. By the 3 days in Edinburgh, I'd given up. Again, I did try to use the online "Chat" support and no customer service agent ever "picked up". If this were a review of Cello Mobile phone rental, I might give higher marks because at least we were able to use it and it arrived on time. I tried to negotiate the difference between a cell phone rental and the hot spot - no one ever got back to me on that. read more

Cello Mobile engages in false advertising along with rude customer service and dishonesty. I pre-ordered a MiFi wireless router feb 2016. On 6/2 I received a Samsung Galaxy phone placed in a personal hotspot mode. There were even stickers covering the unit saying MiFi and wireless hotspot, but was indeed a samsung phone when removing the stickers. Tim, a customer support rep wrote a very rude email claiming it is not a phone, a complete lie as it says samsung galaxy on boot up. I spoke with Faigy, also customer support who was not as rude, but would not refund my shipping after numerous requests. She also claims she was doing me a favor refunding some of the cost as it says no refunds on the invoice. I did explain to her that on 2 previous invoices it did not have that verbiage, and only on the last invoice was it added, and only sent to me hours after the unit shipped. A hotspot on a phone is not the same as a dedicated wireless router for which they advertise. Please be aware of their false advertising, rude customer service, and dishonest practices. read more

I rented two Cello smart phones for a trip to China, as a tourist. Our party split up at one point into two cities, so we wanted two phones to stay in contact. I say: "Do not leave home without one" ! (for China, at least). I would never take my own devices to China, if I needed to connect to a network there (catching a malware bug is likely). Cello's smart phones for China are fairly modern roaming UK-based phones (from Vodaphone), and as such, over carrier data links, provide internet connections to your data apps over the UK internet - that gets you around the Great Firewall in China, for your favorite Google English language apps (such as Google Maps and Google's browser/search engine). This was indispensable. Local connections over WIFI were faster, but blocked alot of western apps. I rented a China Mobile phone last year for a trip to China, and could do very little with it - it was an older iPh4 (wouldn't load large apps before I left) and everything there went through (or more likely didn't go thru) the Chinese Firewall. No English language mapping. So: "Go Cello - or don't go at all" if you rent. Customer service was great as well. Highly recommend. read more
